Question Memory Management Redmi Note 11 - Redmi Note 11 (spes/spesn)

the stock rom memory management is horrible. processes are terminated. I have a Mi A3 and this doesn't happen. Is there already any discussion about this?

Exactly, i can't run an equalizer app and YouTube together without at least one of them getting killed in the background ... I find this pretty annoying

Yes. It's a common problem with MIUI

[Q] About MIUI

Hi there XDA-Developers,
I'm new here
But, I gotta little question about MIUI on Galaxy S.
Because I had MIUI Mintberry on my SGS, and after clean install it was very fast. But when I installed a couple of apps I had often lags. Is there a way to speed MIUI up a bit? Because I really like MIUI...
Thnx,
(And if I posted in the wrong section, what is very unlikely to me, please correct me!! Also if my question already is been answered in another thread...)
some apps like facebook used lots a resource
for exemple facebook has a internal process to check new message
lots of applications starts at android boot and eat memory
so you have less free memory and sometimes some lags appears
Yeah, I know that.I don't even use Facebook
Well there's an app called Autostarts in the Market. It's paid though. Anyway. With it you can set what programs start at boot and thus more RAM can be used for everything else.

RAM always at 70% on MI5

Hello fellow MI5 users,
I received my phone one week ago and I start having some issues with the RAM. In fact, at the start of the phone, it's already at 70% filled up which is too much for me. Indeed I use a lot of RAM and I'm that type of guy who let the apps running in background everytime because I keep opening them everytime. I was wondering if it was possible to have a link to a better ROM because I guess it's the problem and also a link for a tutorial on how to flash it I'm a newbie in this type of manipulation but I'm very interested so I hope you will help me guys. By the way, my MIUI version is the MIUI 8 Global 6.8.18. I honestly don't know what can i give as information but I'll answer ASAP at any questions
Have a good day
This is working as design - Android keeps apps in RAM to reduce I/O on resuming from background - faster & more energy efficient.
You can change the number of background processes via the development settings or you can kill apps on closing.

I've seen that indeed but it was set at standard so I'll probably put it at 3 I guess. How should I set the memory optimization? I've read it should be set off, altough I tried middle and I feel comfortable like that?
Is it normal to start at 70% without anything started ?

For the 3GB version? Pretty much. MIUI is horrible.
After booting I typically had 1.3GB / 3.0GB free but after a while this averaged to around 650MB free.

I know that but I need more because I use multi-task a lot. Is there a way to change the ROM so I have more space to work with? Even if the ROM itself is beautiful.
Indeed it's the 3gb version 32gb. It have lags sometimes and I think it's due to the full RAM. Can I have a link to a custom ROM which works fine on this device?
I'm a little confused, you want as much RAM available but you want as many processes in the background as well? That sounds contradicting to me. Memory optimization maps to ZRAM, if you set it off there will be no memory compression and thus even less processes will be kept in the background. If you set it high, you can have as many processes as possible, but there could be lag due to (de)compression time overhead.
Try different Rom
Try to use a different Rom. On the Stock Rom is a lot of bloatware which is using your RAM too.
First you need to get an Bootloader unlock permission and have to unlock the BL.
It could take up to 10 Days to get the permission from Xiaomi
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/unlocking-xiaomi-mi-5-bootloader-t3336243
After that you have to flash a recovery like trwp via ADB. Google it for videos or threads how to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/recovery-twrp-xiaomi-mi-5-t3412123
After that you can flash a developer Rom.
I use the Resurrection Remix and it works fine. The CM 13 stucks in Bootloop. Maybe because I made a full wipe and had to sideload my rom.
Because you don't have a SD card option you have to have the room installed on your hard drive. But just follow the description below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/unofficial-resurrection-remix-m-5-6-9-t3395945
It took me just 1 day to get the unlock permit but don't try do do it without it. You brick your phone.
The RR Rom works really fine. Fingerprint and everything. It has no bloatware and you have to get the gaps like in the description. Arm64 nano seems enough.
Good luck and fun with a great phone.
Normally the android system kills the unused apps even in background. But i also experienced lack in multitasking.

I think you misunderstood the OP question, he wanted more free RAM at start in order to have as many as possible apps in the background.

Yup exactly
Try trwp 3.0.2.0 with 3.0.2.1 people experience bootloop

In fact, I'm just doing some research before asking because I'm very new. I have found some videos but they are pretty old and not on this phone but I guess it works more or less the same way

OK, in that case, just open Security->Permissions->Autostart and disable those which aren't immediately needed upon start. I have 18 autostart items (mostly system monitoring & social media apps) and I usually start with 1.5 GB free RAM.

Multitasking and Ram Management on MIUI8

So let's get straight into it.
I bought the 32GB version of the device some days ago.
Flashed new MIUI 8 nougat through mi-globe ROM.
I can never use more than 3-4 apps simultaneously, such as if I turn on Instagram,Whatsapp,Messenger and Facebook at the same time, the device starts to lag a little and always the 4th app gets closed after 1 or two minutes.I know these are RAM consuming apps but I tried other apps like photo editors, gallery, camera or other regular apps that don't use an internet connection. But no help.
I tried changing ROM version, tried stable builds, tried tuning RAM optimization in developer options, and even used RAM management apps(LSPEED) to make it more multitasking friendly.Nothing helps.
This is really annoying,as it is never expected for a device that has snapdragon 820 chipset and 3 GB of RAM.I used a Nexus 6p before,I exactly remember how good it was in multitasking as I didn't even have to clear the RAM,or even worry about it,all the apps were always there.Even in the 2GB RAM days I never ran out of RAM.
So,what's the deal here?Is MIUI really that bad in multitasking?Or is there anything I can do?A snapdragon 820 device with this type of regular life performance really makes me sad as I am a performance seeker, which is the only reason to leave Nexus.
MIUI likes to eat a lot of RAM, try some custom ROM

Did you disabled battery saving mode? I'm asking because with memory optimization on "of" on developer options and battery saving mode on "off" I never have apps closed. And I'm using quite heavy apps. Not even when I'm playing Need for Speed No limits having Vainglory running on background, or the other way around, the background app never get killed.

Well AOSP and CM based ROMs is are not still there for stability I guess.
But will try RR 5.8 tonight.

I never use power saving mode for the record.Memory optimization is always off.
How much RAM usually is free for you with no apps running?I get 1.1 GB free always. Is it low or normal?

Actually I believe this is a misconception. notably on lineage or AOSP roms I tried on my mi5 prime, difference on free ram at first boot is not significant.
MIUI is not a source hog but rather has an active task killer. You have to set everything manually to avoid your favorite apps to be killed imho.
To OP:
You can try disabling MIUI restriction (settings/battery), and per app battery management for background running individual app settings (security/battery... i forgot whether app management or what since now I am on slimdragon).

I didn't asked you if you are using battery saving. I was asking if you disabled it. On MIUI battery saving mode is activated by default.
Use Lineage.?
I tried disable MIUI optimization (or something that I forgot how it's called, it's in Battery settings), and tried choices from Off to High in Developer Options > Memory optimisation (or something), but it still sucks. Even the launcher reloads usually (I use Nova launcher). Now I'm using Lineage and multitasking works perfectly.
your using mi globe rom which has ram issues try to use the official one please from en.miui.com and its already noted by miui dev's that android 7.0 for mi5 has battery drain and ram issues

Question is there any way to overcome Miui controling over apps and permissions

Hello guys
I am on MIUI 12.0.5 and I am suffering from miui constantly shutting down my apps permissions and making the apps services stop for example accessibility or usage permissions. I am tired and tried all solutions available from locking the apps in background to removing miui battery optimization, still miui finds way to stop the apps.
does rooting help in this regard because I am really sick and start to look for another phone brand.
Thanks

Yes, but not rooting alone.
You have to install a custom ROM.
At the moment I prefer los20 but also others not bad. Depends on your using and wishes.....

This is one of the reasons why some reject Miui and choose for a custom rom.
guys I actually tried almost all custom roms for this device with no offense to any rom developer nobody could make a stable rom [without deep sleep issues which ****ed me] like miui sadly that's why I went back to miui 12 in hope that It's less aggressive than 13 which was crazy controlling
I want other solutions than custom roms because I don't want to format my device now and I never found any rom that suits all my need, it's either have nice features but not stable or the other way.

General My thoughts about MIUI 14

The new system update isn't much, but it's pretty neat, although it does have its caveats. Apart from a major OS update based on Android 13 and some minor tweaks, not much has changed. Though there are some new features that Xiaomi had promised. Based on optimised system resources that reduce the amount of storage space the system takes up, although it is quite negligible. The amount of virtual memory has been increased from two gigabytes to three gigabytesNew wallpapers have been added to the Themes application. There have also been minor tweaks to the system icons. In the privacy section, some options have been restored. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that a new feature has been added to the privacy section called Android System Intelligence. Oh, and if you're wondering where the game launcher is, it's in the security application, I don't know why they hid it there. There is also a new feature in the Notes app, which is the sketch function. Oh, and most importantly for this section, the security patch has been updated to the 1st of May.
Now for the caveats: first and foremost, not much has changed other than the operating system itself. Secondly, the camera app is rather buggy when it comes to recording video, and although this can be circumvented by using a third-party application, it's still an annoyance. I also experienced overheating and draining the battery.
What do you think of the new update?
Also, if you're wondering how I managed to install the beta system update when my boot loader is locked, I found a way to bypass the system update menu.

Do you think this is the fault of Android 13 itself??? I found a similar problem in PE too...
miui 13 have very aggressive background killing, is still happening in miui 14 ? its very annoying

Remove miui.powerkeeper via ADB
All this MIUI "optimizing" is total crap. I always revoke all authorizations for all the MIUI crap in the Password&Security menu. With this the OS runs acceptable.
has anyone had any problems with org.codeaurora.ims? I got a battery draining issue with that app, still on MIUI 13.

that makes it better, but far away from good.. alternative OS is the solution... currently on Lineage and its way better... or downgrade to Android 11, which is even better (even on MIUI) in terms of background process killing...
