Question Will we see windows 11 running in tab s8 ultra when it updated to android 13? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

I think it would be fantastic to run AND windows 11. It's been done to pixel android 13, due to better virtualization android 13 is having.

Looking forward to that.
It is definitely a game changer.

I really hope the developers get involved in this and make it work with the keyboard and USB port and camera as well.

It is completely doable.. But I'm not sure how many people bought the s8 ultra as it is very expensive. When only few bought it, less chances one do it..
If it would work well, it would probably be the best windows tablet as there isn't one with that big screen and small bezels.

You can already run Linux through Termux with smooth desktop experience using Xwayland.
However, Termux is a bit broken since Android 12.

No, but you may lose performances without root

Do I install termux from playstore without root, or is a better version anywhere?
Thanks

oh not really y have termux running in andrid 13 on samsung s22 ultra you need to perform a comand before you upgrade to android 13 and the the settings become permanent y have kali netunter running in android for a month without any disconnects including graphical acceleration having even kde up running (no wayland compositor since the device has exynos and the graphic card is 2x Radeon r650 mobile raytracing works

shore is doable the soc is among supported devices and is you download the enterprise version the hardware support is huge but the thing is you have to mod the firmware to enable installing other than android and that is the tricky part

ah no no root required but for enabling hardware passthrough you need to connect to pc and perform adb shell commands in order to raise oom server app limit at least y manage to merge kali netunter within termux actually y got termux installed before android 13 update so after a 13 update the system optimized termux to run Wery well

who says about virtualization is as slow regardless of what os you try to virtualize, modern phones can even boot windows natively sa long as you have the necessary hard drive space, but there is a cheaper way and most powerful too azure vm and through rdp just remote in to the cloud
linux yes with ease can run within android but windows is another thingy dual boot yes can be done by modifying your bootloader to allow usb boot and dual boot

Well, android 13 can now use KVM to run Linux through virtualization. However, Samsung have to allow it on his firmware...
Google Pixel phones already can virtualize any OSes with a new app called NestBox.

Kdragon said to use qemu to see if you can access KVM. I've used limbo previously and it's super slow without KVM. There are tutorials on running windows through limbo but be careful with the windows image you use because they can be infected. There is an XDA post somewhere with windows images that have been optimized

Limbo was extremely slow when i tried (in other tablet). The best way right now, running some windows apps in tab s8 ultra, is with exagear. I have posted here:

Agree
Curently, the best you can do is using Termux with proot distro.
Unfortunately, Android 13 doesn't change anything since Samsung's kernels doesn't have KVM (and will probably never have).
We need to wait for custom kernel with KVM enabled.

Windows OS?

If the phone is Intel based, is it possible to run Windows on it - even if its a cut down version?
Windows desktop? Don't think so. Wouldn't scale right on the 4:3" screen.
Windows Phone? Maybe. But it would take a lot of time, time which I think should be invested into Android ROM baking and stuff.
^
agree.
If you can make the boot loader to read GRUB or MBR partition tables than the phone will load a Win XP/Vista/7/8 because of the native x86 instructions in the processor. Trying to find matching drivers then is the next step.

I think Intel have changed quite a lot within the x86 based architecture to be running fan-less and at that level of battery consumption.
Porting a x86 PC OS would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack and that's just getting it booting.
As for windows phone it has more chance of getting ported to any other android phone as it runs on ARM.

As in the stock bootloader won't let you boot from whatever you need to boot from? I figured with an unlocked bootloader, there wouldn't be any issues on that front.
then tell me how to make it boot from my sd card xD
Oh, I have no idea. I just thought those problems would be over. I guess the bootloader just doesn't support that function.

That phone is of no help since it uses wrong chip. It uses the Intel atom z530 made in 2008 long before Intel remodeled them for mobiles.
RAZR I uses a atom (soc) completely different.
As I said would be extremely difficult for little in return.
As for booting from sdcard if it doesn't support it then there's nothing we can do to the bootloader to get that to work.
We could boot to nand then mount sdcard partition partitions other phones have ran android from sdcard.

I'd be more than happy to help sponsor some development to have the RAZR i running Windows 8 Pro not Windows 8 phone.
I was quote about $2000 for a ITG xpPhone 2 a while ago, with the RAZR i being about $500 unlocked with a newer chipset and a thinner device, it would be really nice to have instead. I have asked for another quote for the ITG xpPhone 2 to see if the price has come down at all.
I'd didn't buy it yet as I thought with Windows 8 being released, there might be a bit more interest in getting it to run on Intel Medfield phones.
I really want a Windows 8 Pro device that I can have in my pocket.
Win 3.1 through aDosBox ?
Another way could be to use aDosBox ?
As for the Asus transformer

Does the Razri version remove the x86 emulation layer ?
http://www.freeware4android.net/motorola-razr-i-xt890-device-2815/adosbox-get-24103.html
It should provide a faster version than the current ARM-based Android version.
We were talking about the real Windows 8/Windows Phone 8, not 3.1 through emulation.
Any news about installing a real desktop windows on this device ? Are there any x86 phone that can do that anyway ?
My main goal is to build an x86 handheld for retro games (old native windows games), probably coupled with an iControlPad 2.

Seems fishy. The lockscreen was an Android lockscreen, and the error popup also looked like an Android popup.
I honestly think he was just using something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XwIeWfvcZ_o#!
It seems that the ASUS tablet 810 has a medfield SoC and runs windows 8, so it's almost certainly within the capabilities of the hardware. The question is whether or not we can get the bootloader to play nice or maybe stick a custom bootloader on it.

Ubuntu for Android App

On the Indiegogo page for the Ubuntu Edge, you can see a video of a proof of concept for the Ubuntu Desktop.
She used an app on a stock Nexus 4 (if I remember correctly, she says AOSP) and just launch it like that on Android and sent it to the screen.
Am I the only one who find this more amazing than running Ubuntu Touch on a Android phone ?
If you take a look at the size of the ARM Ubuntu version, you have a 500 MB file and I was wondering how Android can just load like that Ubuntu and run it along Android ?
Cheers.

As you point out, the video demonstrates a fully functional version of Ubuntu for Android. In the IRC channel, Ubuntu VP of engineering stated that U4A requires the Android OS to be modified slightly. I'm hopeful this process is unveiled soon and U4A becomes publicly available. It likely won't be very smooth on current commercially available hardware, and there's not really enough storage on an N4 to make it very practical, but it would still be nice to get a glimpse of computing convergence.
Thank you for your answer, is there any way to have access to this discussion ?
It seems pretty smooth on the video, which is surprising when you know the current hardware limitation on Android ...
For the storage, the cloud allows you to only download the file you need so it might not really be a problem.
I'm currently thinking about building a NAS to use it as a storage and download platform, it might be a custom solution for this problem.
Another option is my linuxonandroid project, see it as ubuntu for android but with just a one man team doing it in the spare time
Big plus side is we support a range of distros and are not limiting to Ubuntu

Just like my project they do not use a VM, they use native Chroot, which allows Linux to run on the Android kernel from within Android.
SO you get normal access to hardware and kernel features and no performance hit.
Then for the sharing its a mixture of both OS's having access to the same storage so music and files are viewable from both.
For app data shared acrossed it simply requires so work to pass this across from one side to another, something that could be done pretty easy and I have started working on myself
Nice thank you gonna give it a try tonight.

Okay, cool. I am extremely interested in this and I am a developer as well, so if there is anything you need tested or anything I can help you work on, please let me know.
I have a rooted Nexus 4 with sock jelly bean on it. I have played with installing Ubuntu Phone on it a few months back, but went back to android as I felt extremely limited in Ubuntu Phone.
I have the SlimPort® SP1002 from Amazon coming today. As I said before I would love to run it without the lag of VNC. Convergence is my main goal and I am so excited about Edge, but I want the Ubuntu for Android app for my Nexus 4 that I saw Leann talk about being already ready toady. Any idea of where/when we can get it?

Will you implement native chroot at some point too?
So now that the Ubuntu Edge campaign has failed, if/when do you think they will release Ubuntu for Android? I am going to get the new Nexus (Nexus 5?) and hopefully they will have it released for that phone.

connecting a jtag port isn't difficult, the chromecast is only $35 too if something goes wrong. I'm hoping that the usb can function as a usb hub if it is hacked via jtag, if so then maybe we'll get a proper android rom and maybe a linux distribution.

Runs android..
So if it has the NDK we can run the XBMC app and still have the chrome cast system run in the background and have the best of both worlds. Awesomesauce.
It makes sense that it runs Android, it's a real OS that can run apps unlike Chrome OS. However, it would not make sense to call it Android as Android is a religion that is polarizing. No diehard Apple fan or even casual iPhone user would be caught dead with an Android device.
Chrome, on the other hand, is agnostic and works across platforms.
The name choice was political.

Define app.
I have a rdp app on my chromebook that I can use on networks without internet perfectly fine. My text editing app works smoothly even without network. The ssh client works well too.
And, unlike android, with dev mode enabled I can run any gnu/Linux app I want without installing a second os in a chroot.
I personally prefer chrome os over android. Having a real Linux os tends to come in handy.

When is Linux coming for Dex?

As the title states. Also what distro's will be available? Really looking forward to this feature.

I think they will launch it with Official Oreo release.
But if You can't wait then just use Debian NoRoot from play store. It works pretty well.

I returned my dex. It constantly dropped the Ethernet connection, making it useless for remote desktop over VPN. This sounds interesting but I'll wait until Samsung gets dex to a basic level of functionality before trying it out again.

It will be here soon, maybe with the next Galaxy Note. It will be based on a Virtual Machine environment running on your device. They will have pre-loaded .img that you can download.
You cannot load the .iso and run the installer.. ARM architecture and a total different environment that needs to be emulated.
I know for fact that it will be called LinuxOnDex ^^
This is bad news. I was hoping they would find a way to "Freeze" Android and run a usable standard Linux Kernel natively. This has many advantages, including running efficiently and native file formatting.
Some geniuses made it possible for us (Android Users) to run Linux in a Virtual Machine environment for years now and display out using VNC.
(Search Google Play Store Linux Deploy)
Now Samsung comes out with overpriced hardware and pushing it with Open source development from others.

I don't think it's possible to install Windows on android device, however, I don't see any reason why would it be impossible to install some kind of virtual machine environment suitable for android and running Win10 on it. this phone has a high class specs, it can do anything android devices can do.
