I've looked myself and have found nothing to replace th one two. Though some browsers such as UC browser have built in ad blockers. UC does a decent job of catching a lot of the ads.

Go to adblockplus.org on your phone and download that apk. You can create new apn settings if you plug in the adblock proxy on it. You will also have to configure the proxy on any WiFi network you connect to.

AdAway/AdBlocker preventing normal surfing....

I'm trying to use ad blocking on my note 4, I've tried adblocker which requires me to run a proxy through its server.
AdAway alters the host file.
Adaway seems to prevent normal browsing? I guess most web sites redirect through some type of ad site?
Adblocker proxy seems to slow down my Wi-Fi connection or i didn't have it setup right, and without running thru the proxy I'm guessing it doesn't work? So based on that I'm guessing it doesn't work while on cellular data?
Is anyone successfully using a global ad blocker? Pop-up blocker? Add if so, which one?

Adaway works perfectly for me, it does not interfere with web browsing at all.
The best part of Adaway is that it works with internet ads as well as all the ads
which we see on the "free apps and games" which we install from the playstore.
Most of the better custom roms come with adaway, so it must be good!
(adaway cannot be gotten from the play store)
Perhaps you are trying to use Adaway in conjunction with the browsers popup
blocker enabled at the same time and thats what is causing your issue.
Good luck!
I am using Adaway with no issues. I tried the Ad-Blocker app from playstore and that blocked my browser from accessing most of the sites.

Yes there is . Just dont use any apps with ads and dont browse the internet . On a serious note I would just root . Basically everything you can do thats actually cool and useful with Android and everything on this site Requires Root. Just root your device !
Still not sure if i want keep this phone cause i see there are alot of problem. Kind feel afraid
Here's an example of adaway interfering with surfing. This is a post here on xda, I want this file to flash. I'm running adaway with the web server enabled.
But I can't go to the link from tapatalk on my note 4, it's obviously redirecting thru an ad site that adaway is blocking.
I got tired of long pressing to get to menu so I made a flashable zip to make recents button the menu button.Make a backup to go back to undo this mod if you want to go back. This only tested on T-Mobile N910T<br />

Just disable adaway thru the app and download the file and re-enable..

Adaway is doing its job if it's blocking that redirect. What you really want us a smart ad blocker that reads your mind. But since no such blocker exists, you might have to disable it every now and then to get to what you want.
I run 4 ad blockers on my Firefox laptop. The Internet truly amazing without ads. However sometimes you have to let an ad through to get what you want.

[HOW TO][NO-ROOT] Blocking ads without additional software in Android 9.0 Pie

The next method allows us to block ads in Android without to installing any additional software. It's working on any android device working with Android 9 Pie and above.
How to do it:
Go to Settings => Connections => More connection settings => Private DNS.
Check Private DNS provider hostname
Then you can use some of the rest. The first one is recommended.
dns.adguard.com
dns-family.adguard.com
dot-de.blahdns.com
Another DNS that you can check is NextDNS. It's free to use and provide some nice features on their website.
How to block ads in Google Chrome
The DNS method works also for Google Chrome, but you need to change something to make it work.
Open Chrome, type in chrome://flags
Then search for async DNS resolver (#enable-async-dns) and choose disabled in the drop-down menu. Otherwise, chrome could use a built-in DNS resolver which does not block ads.

is there that option on oreo??

This allows us to block ads system-wide (for apps without built in DNS resolver) without installing additional software or plugins or anything. Getting started is really easy:
1.) Open Settings --> Connections --> More connection settings --> Private DNS
2.) Check Private DNS provider hostname
3.) depending on what you want to enter either:
dns.adguard.com
dns-family.adguard.com (To block adult sites)
dot-de.blahdns.com (small hobby project with adblock)
These are secure DNS servers that have integrated ad blocking.
4.) Press Save & enjoy ad-free browsing.
5.) An extra step for Chrome users:
Open Chrome, type in chrome://flags
search for async DNS resolver (#enable-async-dns) and choose disabled in the drop-down menu. Otherwise, chrome could use a built-in DNS resolver which does not block ads.

So this is only for browsers? Not in apps ad blocking?
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
System-wide; it blocks ads in apps, I've tested some apps and it worked.
If i wanna use OpenDNS, what hostname do I use?
T-mobile
Sm-n960u
Oreo 8.1.0
When I open more connection settings there is no option to add DNS, there is only am option to add VPN. What firmware are you using to do this without using an additional app?
Works like a charm... Thanks for this!

What firmware are you on? A Google search says it's in pie, I have not found it for oero.
Everything perfect running on N9600 adroid pie
Can I trust this DNS? I mean, using it means literally everything you do on your phones goes through that server. Just curious.
It does not work in Samsung Internet browser, but you can always turn on ad blockers in the browser.
How is AdGuard dns with Bixby?
I uninstalled the AdGuard app because it prevented Bixby from working on my watch.

Network admin here. DNS simply translates human-friendly domain names such as www.google.com to IP addresses. Whenever an app needs to communicate with a website or server or something on the internet, via a domain name, it first asks a DNS server what the IP address for that domain name is.
That's literally the only data that will go to those servers - "hey what's the IP address of www.xyz.com?", "Here you go, its 123.234.56.78"
The worst that could happen is that you could possibly be redirected to malicious sites, but adguard is reputable so that's not likely to happen.

VPN Adblockers

Hey, guys. New P30 Pro owner here. I'm having a bit of an issue with VPN ad blockers. I usually use Blockada, but that's now working. I'm getting ads in Chrome. Here are my findings:
Blockada - ads randomly slipping through on various websites and in some apps.
DNS66 - Not working at all, for some reason.
Block This! - Works well, but seems to slow down page loading.
Adguard Premium - I haven't tried this yet. Last time I used it on my S10 Plus, it had a disasterous impact on my battery, though it usually blocks ads reliably.
I already made battery exceptions for all of these and enabled the host files, etc. They just aren't all working as expected.
What are other people using on their P30s and what are your findings?
Thanks.
I'm using dns.adguard.com in the phones private DNS settings and it seems to be doing a good job of blocking ads. I am not currently using a VPN and this has had zero impact on battery usage.

It seems to be blocking ads system wide, not noticed any in the week I've been using it.
Okay, 2 things:
I figured out why Blockada wasn't working in Chrome. I had to disable the Async DNS flag in flags. I should have remembered that.
Second, the adguard DNS only works on WiFi, so that's not an option.

This is how I did it: Settings > Wireless & Networks > Private DNS > Configure Private DNS > Type: dns.adguard.com
It works perfectly on wifi and mobile data. The only time I've had to turn it off is when I was trying to connect to free wifi in a pub.

This is how I have it set up as well. Does seem to help but you still get some ads
I've been getting good results from Windscribe VPN as well - it has ad blocking/tracker blocking built in and speeds have been decent.

Ad blocker for One UI 5?

Hey!
I have been using AdGuard VPN so far but apparently it is not working anymore on Android 13. There is a problem with creating VPN connection.
It will probably take some time for the developers to fix that.
Since I'm not really used to using any other ad blocker what ad blocker are you guys using?
Thank you!
Preferrably for saving storage space and all: i directly change my device's DNS to one that is able to block ads on the go.
There are plenty, like
dnsforge.de
dns.adguard.com
libredns.gr
blahdns.com
and etc.

I will give all of them a try.
I use this app:
Blokada - the popular mobile adblocker and VPN for Android and iOS
Keep all your devices protected with Blokada content filtering and encryption.
blokada.org
Free blokada 5 (cloud less) version.
It still works for me on v3.6.10
AdGuard DNS is the best solution in my experience so far.
Blokada 5 made my phone sluggish, don't know why...
AdGuard DNS config made the pages take a long time to load...
AdGuard app is the best option for me so far. I'm running Android 13.
The version of Adguard I was using no longer works on the s20 somehow, it was fine a day ago
Adaway works fine on OneUI 5 in the root based side of things, not heard anything about the non root version not working on A13.
