Question Snapchat/Instagram horrible video recording lags - Motorola Edge 30 Ultra / Motorola Moto X30 Pro

Does anyone else noticed that when you record videos with Snapchat/Instagram when it's dark, that the video turn out horribly laggish?
I didn't have this happen on any of my previous OnePlus phones.
This video demonstrates the issue:

I have a reply for you here
Terrible Video Call quality and Lags (whatsapp ,etc etc)
Hi Guys. Despite this is a great device for some aspects it really disappoints in areas where nowadays phones should be shining. Are you having this terrible blur from front and back camera during videocalls? WhatsApp is literally embarrassing...

Does the front facing camera suck or does it suck

Ok so I love face timing on my iPod and iPad with friends and family and recently I decided to give it a go on my Note with Skype on my iPod and the results sucked.
First of all I see the image from my iPod's camera in my note but not my note's camera on my iPod which is super weird
Next is the front facing camera sucks, the resolution is so low, I know its a 2 Mega pixel cam but I'm sure its not suppose to look like a no pixel cam. The image is very grayed out its visibale to see but very grayed out. Is it just my phone or is it like that for every one or is there like a setting
Is there an alternative apply or something?

Open the camera app and switch it around so it's using the front camera. How does it look? If it looks good, then you probably have a software problem, or skype problem.
I haven't tried Skype on the Note yet, but I recall it downsamples quite a bit on Android!
Using windows Skype scales the quality in order to keep up with the network's speed.
Maybe it tries the same on Android. Were you on wifi?
How's Google Talk?
Yea I was on wifi and no I didn't try google talk but anyways its not about skype its about the camera quality like when I try for self portrait with friends and stuff it with sucks, can it be adjusted in the settings because I don't think its low lighting

If you mean the image is less saturated, you are right.
I find this more than acceptable for a frontfacing camera.
Did you take all the plastic film off?
I quickly snapped a pic, so you can compare.
Cheers,
Daan
edit: XDA Scales it down a bit! But for color comparison it should do okay.
Yea its kinda like in the picture you showed, its a 2megapixel cam should it suck that much???

Two megapixel is just not that good. Even with a good lense it won't be very high quality. There is just too little information stored.
The frontfacing camera in phones are always lower quality.
Two megapixel is really a lot for a frontfacing cam.
I wouldn't say it "sucks". It performs better than any other frontfacing cam I ever owned.
Touch Diamond, Hero, SGS, Incredible S.
If you want more saturation maybe you can use a different camera app.
Camera 360 for example, maybe that has more settings.
Still, don't expect high quality pics from any frontfacing cam on a phone on the market right now.
i think it looks awesome. i have done video chat on skype on H+ signal and the video quality is great. output from my end is always great both on video calls to the uk and usa. But video input from the uk was good although usa video was poor but that was their internet speeds that was causing trouble.
i have tried it multiple times as my child likes to do the video chat and finds it fun, so we just log into skype on laptop with my wifes account (connected via wifi) and on the phone (connected via H+) with my account and my child enjoys video chat.
I frankly doubt that video could get better on any current phone or probably even laptop for skype video calls.
for reference over 3g connection (i sometimes get 3g but most times get better H or H+ connection) with uploads speeds ranging from 2600kbps to 3500kbps and download speeds ranging between 3600kbps to 6000kbps and my wifi speeds (for laptop via landline) for downloads are about half that and upload speeds are about 3-4 times slower! having an unlimited data connection helps as i dont keep count of the data used now.
photos and videos shot even in a slightly dark room are good too from the front facing camera.
do you have a screensaver film applied over the front facing camera that is spoiling the image???? common mistake on new laptops where people complain about webcam quality but would have forgot to take protective film from the lense off after removing it from the packaging.

No I don't have any film on my cam, I rather video chat over my phone than my laptop as 1 the laptop screen is too big making the picture from the other end really blur and its also heavy to carry around the house. Its much more convinient to do video calls over my note as the screen is bigger than a phone but smaller than a tablet sorta making it the almost perfect size for video chat, I'm wondering is there any alternative to skype where an ipad and my galaxy note can video chat

2MP aint much, but it's a whole lot better than apple/ipod touch .7mp
alternative = tango
fyi, it's gonna look uglier on a tablet. Image resolution expands.

just bought the z

Hi
just bought the bought the Xperia z for£500 everything seems good apart from
the camera the low light shots are terrible far worse than my Xperia t, also when I take pic on low light the screen is really grainy, when outdoors the camera takes decent photos prob on par with my t,
feel abit gutted to pay all that money for the camera to be poor, has anyone else found the camera poor or could I have faulty device? Or have I got to do to something in settings to make photos better
thanks

Read the many other camera / image quality related threads then compare with yours.
Also, this is not the troubleshooting section
Sent from my gorgeous White Xperia Z
Sorry but my experience of the camera is the exact opposite of yours. It's the thing that pleases me most about the phone. Mine only struggles in very very dark rooms like if I take a picture in the room with only the tv on.
Everywhere else, I've been pretty blown away by it. Totally rips my S to shreds. Maybe you timing is poor and your blaming the camera for it. If you look at the pics and videos from the HTC One camera, you'll know what poor means.
Maybe you should switch away from superior auto, sounds like you don't give it enough time to do its thing before hitting the shutter button.

this, superior auto needs a second or something to recognize scene... you can try with just hdr or manual settings perhaps

In my experience it's best to avoid using superior auto.
Hi,
- I also received my XZ for £499 + £50 cashback, got it yesterday after an express delivery from Amazon via Citylink after Herpes failed to deliver 3 days after expected with no information from them regarding it just rudeness (they arrived 2 hours after Citylink on Saturday morning, and I, put mildly, told them to get the fudge out).
- After a day playing with my first Droid, and phone since my LG Cookie, I can say that the phone is, as expected, very snappy. No games I played (MC4, Real Racing 3, GTA:III) stuttered at all and the large screen limited how much my hands blocked it out, a big problem on iTouch and iPhone 5's for me.
- The camera easily blows my brother's iPhone 5 out the water, and the front facing camera is excellent, far better then the SIII's. I'd definitely say anything about the screen has been blown out of proportion - compared the SIII and iPhone 5 there wasn't any noticeable contrast differences (on the Fruit Ninja homescreen to make it a fair test) and the screen doesn't get washed out anywhere near as much as people say it does.
- I'm also left handed, and have normal hands, but found the extra size to be helpful more then hindrance. Web browsing on it is excellent, I've found the 5 inches to breathe new life into HD adult videos.
- The loudspeaker wasn't usually muffled, to cover I had to hold it in an unnatural way, and the battery life has been excellent.
- I use stamina mode, and easily went an entire day and a half from full charge with lots of email use, web browsing, using facebook, streaming HD video over youtube and listening to youtube. I did this at the lowest brightness setting, I found that the difference between minimum and maximum isn't as large as on any Retina iDevices.
That's my thoughts on it so far. An excellent phone, and with a better UI then any Samsung's I've briefly used.

[Q] Zr's extremely poor quality front face camera

Anyone knows if there's anything that can be done to make the front facing camera look better ? I understand that resolution is limited, but the fr can surely improve. When recording video, its fluid enough, but if you're just shooting pictures, it's sloppy as hell. Any ideas?

Its VGA bro.you should consider this minus before buyng the phone.Nothing can be done for improvement. :highfive:
Yeah, i must add that it's a bit strange for a mid to high end device but i can easily live with it.
I Never use the front cam

Well, evrthing is perfect and flawless in this phone except the front camera. What do u expect from vga camera. It doesn't bother much to me though.
Sent from my C5502 using xda premium
yeah .... the ZR seems to be a high end device for 3rd world countries , like where i am from .
in that part of the world, its very rare to use video calling , because it is toooooo expensive , some service providers even don't support video calling.
so for me, i will buy the ZR (which i did) even if it will not have a front camera at all..
i think this is the perfect phone if you dont like the additional .6 inch size.. 5 inch is just too big for me.. although, I used to use xperia active for 2 years and I lived with it...
anyway, I would gladly get this vga front facing camera because it wont eat much my monthly bandwidth if I do video calling through hangouts or skype in 3G... consider if you have 1mpxl or 2mpxl how you will burn through your 2g-5g limit per month?
my only gripe here is that this phone has no ant+...
so I take back my 1st statement.. this phone is almost perfect for me...

The front camera are only 0,3 megapixel.
They could have skipped it completely, its very poor image quality.
Skickat från min C5503 via Tapatalk
I mean video resolution, not photo resolution.
Even i cant imagine that such a quad core, 2gb ram phone comes with 0.3 mega pixel front camera.
So when I got my Xperia ZR i didnt look into the front camera much -- i believed that it will be good.
But it is really worse and worse than my previous phone, Xperia SL.
With this camera, please dont even think about picture or video and waste your time.
I made up my mind that my XZR does not have a front camera -- that is the only way, i guess.
I think you are forgetting the main function of a front camera, is for video call, and for that purpose and with a 3g data plan it accomplish the purpose

Fixed Focus Front Camera

Hi guys, this phone is widely available now everywhere through eBay.
So my question for those who get it, how is the fixed focus front camera?
I think it's a big mistake doing fixed focus especially for the price and technology currently available.
But, I want to know how it performs and the depth of field it has before it looses focus (how close or far to your face).
Thanks!
you might wanna check Xperia 1 reviews since both devices have the same front camera
It doesn't look to bad, but I haven't tested it thoroughly yet.
Thank you guys.

I compared photos side by side with my Note 10 plus front camera and photos are comparable. The main issue with 1 ii front camera is low quality video calling in apps (such as Whatsapp, Duo etc) but seem to be a software problem so hopefully they fix soon.

That's kinda what I was wondering, no doubt the Sony camera software is tuned for it.
Low light is also an issue, even my note10+ feels worse than my note 9 with it's better aperture.
Then again none of this will matter when a fully working gcam port is figured out

Question How's the 30 Ultra performing overall, now that it's been out for a month?

I'm looking for some "long-term" users that have the phone since release now.
Did the camera get better with updates? (especially the auto focus bug when shooting 4k60fps videos)
Or is motorola at least acknowledging these bugs?
I'm probably going for the 30 Ultra nonetheless, but still not 100% sure if I might get the Pixel 7 Pro.
Camera is not fixed yet and Motorola does not communicate with us. No idea if they are planning to fix it.
Other than that the phone is brilliant. I'd wait until december and see if they fix it, if not go for the Pixel.
Gonna swap phones and never return to Motorola if they dont fix it by the end of the year. Sadly.
I like it. My only problem and a important one. When inside a car peoples i talk with tell me they hear mew very bad. Cant tell why. Better quality on messenger or app calls. Terrible quality when having regular call insider a moving car.

Been using the phone (X30 Pro) for over a month now.
For the price I bought it (~USD630) and at 512gb storage, I would not complain.
- Excellent build quality
- Excellent display
- Powerful and very loud stereo speakers
- Vibration motors are top-notch
- Very smooth performance. No lags, stutters
Main camera - it has better image quality/color science than the Edge 30 Pro but autofocus is slower. It's not slow but Edge 30 Pro's very fast "all-pixel" auto focus is just on a different level. I'd say it focuses as fast (or slow) as the latest Galaxy S22 series.
Portrait Lens - no OIS means, it's difficult to use when you are holding your phone in one hand. To me, this is the weakest point. The saving grace is the f1.6 (probably this was intentional to compensate the lack of OIS hardware).
Ultrawide/macro - not a fan of this lens. I'm ok with it and will only use in daylight shots.
Video -- it's just fine. Also not into video recording and I can use Google photos to edit the video quality.
Front camera -- I think this is the strongest camera of the bunch. Very pleasing (little to no beautifying effects).
Motorola CN ROM -- Even if the Edge 30 Ultra is sold at the same price, I would still choose Moto's CN ROM.
Motorola Device Shield app has all the customizations I need on a phone.
Native app locker, background processing, native app clone, etc...

It's honestly a shame that the CN Rom has so much more useful features than the Global one.
They removed double tap to lock and hide navbar pill in global rom which is really dumb imo. Makes me question if I'm better off rooting my 30 ultra to get those features through magisk/lsposed

Just stay with your stock ROM. Rooting isn't just worth all the hassle you'll get after your phone's bootloader has been unlocked. Once unlocked, you can't relock it. I think the main reason is to discourage resellers as there is a huge difference in price of Moto CN vs Moto global phones.

I just recently became a proud owner of this phone, but the first thing I noticed right off the bat was that the buttons are not as clicky and tactile as I'm used to being, coming from the OnePlus 6 I can definitely say the button feels a bit stiff and quite mushy, I'm using it with the default silicone case. Is it just me?
I think it all comes down to personal preference since I like more mushy buttons, not a Big fan of clicky ones :c

Can you take some time and share your long-term experience, please?
One thing I am worried about that, in some youtube reviews they say, the metal frame on the side is really sharp which makes it kinda uncomfortable to hold. Is it true? If yes, how much uncomfortable/annoying is it? Actually ,I want to use this phone without any case.

I am planning to buy the CN version (X30 Pro).

That's right, a sharp frame is present. It didn't bother me much but not everyone might like it, it's pretty obvious...
