General [PSA]: com.miui.powerkeeper acts like a malware, remove it trough ADB for increased performance - Redmi Note 11 (spes/spesn)

This is MIUI battery optimization service that aggressively kills apps in background for a negligible battery gain.
This device already has more than efficient chip, and does not need this aggressive background app killing to get to 8-10h of SOT. It also has the fast charging.
So my advice would be to remove com.miui.powerkeeper trough ADB, since I did that my device works fluid like a flagship. No aggressive background app killing at all, so the potential of this device can be used fully.
Since I don't play games, SD680 has more than enough performance for a normal daily usage.

I do this, i test for one week and i tell how it works

.

Well I tried this for 1 week and I'm impressed.
It really changes the consumption in idle and the closing of apps randomly, although it is still present for some, even so, it works.
I haven't seen any strange bugs related to disabling this service, so at the moment I can say that it's safe and it helps a lot.

Told you. It's like I've got entirely different phone. This and A12 is a killer combo, works smooth af, no background app killing, and 7-8% battery drain per hour of SoT, so from 80-20% battery I get like 8h of SoT.

can anyone tell me which app is responsible for showing the recent apps list? Recently in Poco M2 Pro, I disable some app packages via ADB & recent app is no more working/showing & I can't figure out which app package needs to be enabled for this.

Did you mean this? "com.mi.android.globallauncher"
If yes, then let me tell you that I didn't uninstall that package, just disabled it because I personally use Nova Launcher Prime, so I don't need that in-built POCO launcher, and in Nova, the recent app function isn't working as I said earlier.
I'll enable that package & will check & update here.

okay, I tried this, enabled Mi Launcher/POCO Launcher [com.mi.android.globallauncher] that I disabled earlier via [2022-07-03] [v0.5.1] Universal Android Debloater and reboot the device, still the same,
As said earlier, I use nova launcher prime (latest version 8.0.3) & recent app button isn't working, Also, noticed that the home settings from the settings page is also not opening.
The dependencies are not only on Mi Launcher/POCO Launcher [com.mi.android.globallauncher]
and there must be some other package dependencies.

Do you mean turning off "turn on MIUI optimization"? You can make it visible and toggle it off in Developer Settings. Click on "Reset to Default Values" a few times and it will become visible, a couple of lines below it. It stays untoggled but then goes back to invisible once you leave the screen.

Huh? It's usually just the main launcher handle the recent task

warning for RedMi Pad users, when you remove / uninstall com.miui.powerkeeper you'll soft brick device.

is this for stock rom or xiaomi.eu

How are those finding performance/ram management now after removing this package via ADB? Any bugs or issues to be aware of? Will this mod remain after a MIUI update or need removed again?

Working flawlessly and persists after MIUI update, I'm on A12 now and I was on MIUI 12 A11 when I removed it via ADB.

Thanks, if I use the adb tool is it better to uninstall the package or disable it, or does it not matter?

I uninstalled it, but I don't think it matters, idk...

Thanks, I went with uninstalling it, on the adb tool, you can just reinstall it again if any problems. But so far so good.

Widgets don't update regularly on Nova Launcher

I'm using Nova Launcher with One More Clock as my Clock\Weather widget. I've noticed that the widget does not update the time regularly - i.e. it'll stop updating after some time and it seems to be fairly random. Once it stops, I have to refresh the widget in order for it to update again. I've tried a couple of other widgets and the behaviour is the same, so I'm pretty sure it's not the widget. I've also gone and ensured it is a protected app, but still the non-refresh behaviour continues.
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I don't see it with the stock widget on EMUI...
That happens with emui launcher too. All widgets which are not stock stop updating after a certain amount of time.
Works fine for me. Make sure the launcher and the apps are "protected" in the battery settings. If you want regular android behavior just hit protect all in that menu. This allows apps to keep running and update while the screen is off.
The battery saving options are turned on by default with this phone. Under settings/apps/advanced you can also allow apps to ignore battery optimizations.
If you are rooted you can also just freeze the phone manager and powergenie all together to get stuff to update etc (that's what I did)

I've done everything you mention except rooting the phone. I want a phone that works without rooting, so I guess the P9 isn't really suitable for me. Too bad, as the hardware and general design of the phone is really good, but EMUI really lets it down. Additionally, I'm not happy with the software update strategy for it either. I'm on build 134 for the P9(EVA-L09) and I've seen builds 136 & 152 in the wild for my device variant and geography, but there seems to be no update for my phone. And I have the green garbled images for a lot of the photos that I take, for which I've been waiting on a fix.

I had this issue on FutureRom which i guess waa based on l09.. reverted back to my L19 and the issues don't exist.. might be a buggy PhoneManager is to blame..
But why if you don't mind my asking? I've never used non rooted or non jailbroken phones. You get some nice additional features for free. Every company had phones with broken updates or other issues, if you wanna take things into your own hands and not be dependent on them, you know what to do
Wow that became quite the speech. Sorry

It's been working for 24 hours now updating every hour. Protected under battery settings + ignore battery optimizations under "Apps" wasn't enough, but when I also changed CPU from Smart to Performance it seems to be working. I also re-added the widget on the homescreen afterwards to make sure settings worked.

Android Pie problem on my note9

Hello guys. I just intalled official pie update that came yesterday on my phone via OTA.
However I forgot to uninstall goodlock 2018 (im from EU and therefore its not officialy available) I had navstar (I added different buttons) and task changer turned on.
After installing Pie, these features are no longer available on my phone (in good lock app they appear blocked and I cant update them).
BUT since they were not turned off, now im stuck with them and I cant turn it off (the buttons from navstar are still there even after uninstal). I tried uninstalling but they still apear.
The result is that its now crashing with Pie ONE UI and experience home keeps crashing. I have temporarily added different launcher and its works, but if I go back to home experience, it starts lagging and crashing again.
What can I do? Can I officialy revert back to oreo, remove goodlock and then install pie again? Or is there other way to do it?
I have once heard that you must never uninstall goodlock features without turning them off first because they cause problems afterwards and it seems this is the case here.
Would appreciate any help here, the phone with default home experience launcher is useless because of crashing.
you could try a factory reset....

I had good lock too with nearly all mods being used and switched on, after update, other than my phone looking like crap, it's not caused any actual issues like you describe.
I don't use navstar though and I use ruthless launcher so maybe that's why.
Have you uninstalled each individual module? Rather than just the good lock app itself?
If so your only options are either wait for good lock to be updated, or a factory reset, I say a reset is always best after a major version update anyway, although I can't be arsed doing that myself yet
Well it seems that deleting Home Experience data fixed the issue. Thanks for the replies though.
On side note I realy dislike new recent apps. Task changer in good lock was miles miles better. If you watched something in youtube and went into recent apps it kept playing in background, here it leaves any app and scrolling isnt nearly as smooth. Hopefuly they add it back for pie because right now I sort of regret upgrading.
After my update on AT&T yesterday, I have persistent handles on left and right as well as the edge handle that is usable in the upper left. Anyone know how to get rid of these? I tried turning off edge panels and they still show. Also I have tried the transparency trick, no good there either. Is this a known "upgrade" or a known issue? Thanks in advance.
Disable One Hand Operation + for those handles
Do any of you know how to get multi window to work? It seems to be gone.

Well...it's a launcher, called ruthless haha. Just Google it and you'll find the XDA page, it's a branch off from the original rootless launcher, basically it's a pixel launcher but with lots of extra settings.
I am on the us carrier AT&T. I am using the snapdragon model. I took the OTA yesterday and I left goodlock 2018 installed and all the addons enabled.
I am not getting any of the issues you described. The good lock app just shows all the mods as "disconnected". One hand operation and edge lighting are still working.

Recent Apps reloading while switching all the time!

I recently bought the Honor 10 Lite and everything, from its looks to the performance has impressed me. However, I noticed a very frustrating issue with the "recent apps" function. Every time I try to switch to another app from the list, it reloads all over again instead of opening it in the way it was left.
I did my research and found that tons of other users using EMUI 9.0 or above are facing this and it is happening due to Memory Management. I found and tried all the alternative solutions like lowering the screen resolution, changing the "App Launch" settings to Manual in the battery options, disabling the apps from the "Battery Optimization" settings from the Special Access menu etc. but none of it works. Some have also mentioned to Disable or Uninstall the stock launcher to get back to the Oreo style Recent App card list as a solution. But I am scared to do that, as it can affect the future updates for sure.
It seems like our phone's forum hasn't been quite active so far. Its obvious as its a new device and people are yet to find and talk about issues here. Anyway, there is surely a memory leak which is causing all this. The remaining memory is always below 1 gb which is unusual in a phone with 4 gb of RAM. And it is due to this, the apps are being reloaded in the Recent Apps list to free up more RAM! I really hope Honor will look into this and find a solution in the upcoming update!
Please share your opinion or help out if you are facing the same too. Thanks!

I have an Indian version of Honor 10 Lite. And I am using a different launcher already. So you are saying, I can disable or uninstall the stock launcher and the updates wont be affected? You sure?
I wrote about this to Honor India's official page in Facebook before few minutes. And their reply was quite typical. They wanted me to turn off the android system and transition animations to free up the ram and stuffs. I clearly told them that this was a memory management issue as others described it. But they gave me this irrelevant reply!
I just bought this phone. I mean its just been 2 days. I really dont wish to regret my decision now. The recent apps keeps reloading every time I switch them. Its ridiculous!

Yeah, thats what I said too. I am using another launcher apart from the stock "Huawei Home". I have not disabled or uninstalled the stock launcher yet. Shall I do that? That is what i am asking!
A lot of people have said that uninstalling the stock launcher will free up a lot of RAM and also enable the Oreo styled recent apps card list which will solve this app reloading issue!
I just contacted the Huawei customer care and a lady advised me to record the whole issue and send the video to their service email address. I have shared this EMUI 9.0 issue faced by others as a feedback to them too. Hope they will fix this in the upcoming update!

Hey,
I can confirm this. I've got a model having 3 gb ram. I am using Microsoft Launcher and deactivated everything related to battery to test it out.
1. Closed all my apps via recent apps
2. Then I opened a folder in ES Explorer and went back to homescreen.
3. I went into gallery and watched a video for 60 seconds, back to homescreen.
4. I went into Facebook and read an article for 60 seconds.
5. Going back to Es Explorer (No matter via Homescreen or recent tabs) makes it reload completely.
This definitely is not related to not having enough RAM.
I also can't deactivate my Huawei home, it is greyed out. Right now i am seriously starting to hate that phone.
Alright I got it working more or less by uninstalling Huawei home via adb. it's not perfect (3-4 keep open mostly), but with the switch to card style in recent apps it finally feels not as sluggish as before anymore.

Pie RAM management issue

So I recently updated my Note 9 to Pie (May update), honestly I am satisfied with the update, phone feels smooth, lots of customizations with good lock, battery life is about the same as in Oreo.
The only problem that's bothering me is RAM management, apps don't stay open in background as they used to on Oreo even if I always have 2GB of free RAM at least. I have disabled all sorts of power saving features, tried a magisk module for better RAM management but it's still bad.
Is there any solution for better RAM management? Root or non-root?
Thanks.

since updating from v8 to v9 is not a proper clean start. u might want to contemplate wiping data and cache in recovery mode and start fresh from v9 instead .
shouldn't be different but you might also consider flashing latest firmware again ontop( just dont forget to wipe data first then flash.)
its always best to start fresh than to use a phone that go updated and still has all the clutter from previous version.

I have the Exynos variant N960F, I'm on Pie May update and I am rooted with Magisk.
I don't have many apps in the background as I use Greenify to hibernate apps that I don't want to be running in background, as I said I usually have around 2GB of free RAM most of the time.
Now when I was on Oreo, I used to have for instance PS App open in background (meaning I exit with the back button not home button) and a few hours laters or even after opening lots of apps later, when I go back to that app, it doesn't have to reload. Now this is not the case with Pie, if I do the same, I would have to reload it, it's not that it takes time to reload but it's just annoying to have lots of free RAM yet you have to reload apps every hour or so.

Yes I do, and none of the apps that I want to be running in background are Greenified of course. In fact I have the same apps + settings that I used to have on Oreo as I restored them fully after rooting, the only thing that's different is the updated OS.

Sure, I'll give it a go and see what happens. Thanks.
I have the same problem too, recent apps are closed by itself no matter what battery optimization you do for the apps that you don't want to close.
I just noticed every time it happens it just keeps the last 5 apps used opened and close the old ones.
You can also try to go to device care and then battery then on the upper right hand side the three dots then settings, there turn off put unused apps to sleep. Maybe this can help you.
That dont work mate ,there is no fix trust me.pie closes your recent apps list over night regardless of what setting you use.ive given up trying to keep my favourite apps in the recent apps menu.i just hope Samsung fixes it .but nobody other than me and a few others really want it fixed.most people dont care that all there apps get closed over night apart from 3 or 4 that stay.its terrible

ColorOS 6.1: change launcher, etc.

Just picked up the China 64/6GB configuration (RMX1931), got Google Play running, all looking good, until I ran into the following OS limitations that I've never seen before in about 10 previous Android devices and at least 20 different OS's:
- I can't change the default launcher. Have seen tutorials for what must be previous versions of ColorOS on Oppo devices showing that the launcher can be changed under Additional Settings > App Management > Default App. In this version, App Management is in the root options menu, but the Default App menu doesn't include a launcher option. Attempting to set a new default launcher from within the new launcher app just doesn't take--no matter how many times I pick "use as default launcher," upon hitting home I go right back to the ColorOS launcher. It's mind-blowing to me that Oppo would have the shortsightedness to lock out one of the most key features of Android customizability...surely there's a way around this, has anyone found it? Because the stock launcher suuuucks.
- I can't set vibrate-only notifications. I can for ringtones, but not notifications. There's no "None" option for notification sounds, and no option to enable vibration or choose a vibration style for notifications. Unbelievable.
- I can't change the default SMS app. Well, I can, but the OS automatically changes it back to the stock SMS handler every time I receive an SMS, and I can't find any way to disable this.
Much obliged if anyone has found any workarounds to the above issues that they can share. I am REALLY excited for someone to come out with a way to flash stock Android on this thing. Great hardware value, but this stock OS...for the most part it's fine, but it's blocking functionality that's been available on every Android phone for the past decade. I can't imagine what the software team behind this was thinking.
Wow. Good for me I did not pre-orded the european version yesterday, I'm using Nova Prime launcher on every phone for years and also textra, that's a no go for this phone for me now... And I have no doubt what you say is true.
One thing tho, I'm french, saw a french review of the X2 Pro a few weeks ago, and the guy clearly said he installed textra and adviced users to do so, and didn't share any complains so...
But right now I'm gonna stand with your testimony and hold my purchase, thanks for sharing mate and hope you will find a solution if there is one.
It could be due to the fact it's a chinese version.
I guess EU version on pre order on the official site won't 'suffer' those limitations.
Let's wait for more feedback

I also have the Chinese version of the phone to the 8GB 128gb version. I also cannot change the launcher or change default applications. Hoping a custom or global ROM will come out so I can flash it over. I also have weird black lines that appear in my camera sometimes but only in my room I've noticed doesn't do it outside. they show up in the picture or video but when I'm in good lighting or outside they don't appear. Just in my room regardless of how the lighting is it's super weird. Otherwise the camera is pretty good. Can be a lot better with some software tweaks. Also when I swipe down on the home screen some of the phone is still in Chinese even though it's set in English. I can't get Google assistant on it either. It has its own built-in called breeno but it's all Chinese. Otherwise the performance of the phone is great if you could get oxygen OS on it it would be perfect. Battery life is really good currently at 50% 9 hours and 11 minutes of use and 4 hours and 11 minutes of screen on time. Charging a super fast and I typed all of this using talk to text.

Install your preferred launcher first, than uninstall default launcher with adb commands (many guides about that), you are good to go.

Just to check, you've done this and it uses the other launcher? It doesn't just leave you without a launcher?

I have done it when I had Oppo K1 last year, same Color OS. And don't worry in case of any problem you can always factory reset to fix.

Doesn't work, on attempting to delete system apps, including launcher (com.oppo.launcher), I get the following return:
Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]
Can uninstall other apps no problem with adb commands. Also, this is a unique error return; the error you get for trying to uninstall the wrong package name or a package that doesn't exist is different.
It looks to me like changing the launcher or permanently changing the SMS handler on the Realme X2 Pro will not be possible without root. I do see that there's a test version of TWRP out for this device, so I'll try getting SuperSU running and uninstall the system launcher that way.

So sorry to hear that, and so nonsense that Oppo (Realme) isn't allowing for a simple launcher change. Just because of those stupid things I'm not buying any phone that can't be rooted. But X2 Pro will get root eventually.
Just to add something I just saw here : https://youtu.be/UjmvlHZuD8s?t=451
Almost one month ago and dit not seem to have any problem with changing original launcher to Nova... ?

This looks to me to be the EU rom and is probably an EU version phone.

You mean an EU version? It definitely looks like the launcher restriction is an issue with the original chinese versions and there still appears to be no clarity on whether anyone has managed to get the EU rom on a CN phone.
The EX on the version number looks to me to indicate the global versions and this seemingly prevented people flashing it on the X2 so I suspect the X2 Pro has the same problem.
Just try pocco launcher guys.
Very light and looks like near to stock AOSP experience
Changed launcher without any problem at all. Process is straightforward as in any other android .

True that. I have the EU version.
Just tried lawnchair, and it replaced pocco in my heart
Sorry, can't get to use Nova.
Im using NOVA, but sometimes seems a little buggy... Have to block and unlock again to come to normal.
Install your preferred launcher from play store first
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oppo.launcher

Yes, I've done this and can confirm it works. More detailed infos here:
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
HOWEVER: Nova's Google companion does not work well. I often cannot slide to the very left and then I have to play around with the auto start and energy saving settings.
Also ColorOS keeps changing certain notification settings. Spotify and my Podcast App don't get shown on the Lockscreen, the settings are simply changed back without me doing this. And my calendar widget "Todo agenda" is often not populated with data and becomes useless.
For me, it's a pretty nasty mix of annoyances and shortcomings right now and I'm not thrilled by the Chinese version at all.
I will try to flash the EU Rom, but haven't seen it uploaded anywhere yet...
If that or future software updates won't solve the problems, then I will sell it again.
