Question Disable Automatic Updates? - Google Pixel 7

Greetings! I recently was forced to pick up some new eWaste - a Pixel 7, and the first thing I noticed is that there is no way to opt-out of automatic updates. At least not on the surface anyway. I was wondering if there is a simple solution, or if rooting and flashing a custom ROM is the only real way to go about this. In the end, I would like to completely deGoogle this paper weight, but would be satisfied with manual updates for the time being.
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, I haven't found anything on the p7 yet. So thanks for any information!

You can turn off automatic updates in Developer Options and select "Don't auto-update apps" under PlayStore settings. No root req'd for either

Bloat Freezer - issue

Hey guys, today i tried to open bloat freezer, and i got the message that needs update, when i clicked to update, i got the message that is not available at the market.
I checked market via pc and i found it, but its not available anymore for me for installation
(although i have already bought it). So im wondering is it closed for me or for any P990 users ?
any1 have experinced the same ?
Just checked as I have it installed as well. I can't see any issues with it but I have it set to auto update.
Still seems to be appearing the the market.
I had the same issue and by installing another rom it disappeared but don't ask me why because it came back on another rom. I think it was on the mdc rom's
so try to install another rom.
Deinstalling the app won't work i already tried that several times
Bloat has been blocked from the market. Dont know why, but there seems like the app is doing something Google isn't happy about, as they have blocked/removed bloatfreezer two times now...I have been in contact with them, and got the following response. I decided to but MyBackupPro instead, as it gives the same possibilities and alot of other functionality as well
If you are an old customer that is having problems upgrading to the
latest version, instructions are below, please continue reading. If
you are a new customer with another issue, you can ignore this email
and I will respond to your email as soon as I can.
As you have probably noticed, Google removed the original Bloat
Freezer from the market for a stupid error in the app's description.
This makes it impossible for you to upgrade normally to the latest
version. There is nothing that we could have done to prevent this, and
Google refuses to reinstate the original app after we fixed the error.
We apologize greatly for the inconvenience and want you to know that
we love our customers and want to make this as easy as possible for
you no matter how hard Google tries to make it!!!
Below are instructions to get us the info I need to transition your
purchase from the old version to the new:
1. Go ahead and purchase the new version that is in the market.
2. Go to checkout.google.com and find BOTH the original order number
and the new order number and email both of these to us.
3. We will then refund your purchase for the original order ASAP.
4. You can then continue using the new version and get updates as
normal forever.
Once again, we apologize greatly for this inconvenience and are doing
this the best way possible. We hope that you will help us get back to
our 4.7 star rating by leaving a rating AND a comment in the market so
that others know that the new Bloat Freezer works just as great as the
old.
Thank you for understanding and sticking with us through this speed
bump that Google threw our way, we appreciate each and every one of
our customers and will be doing lots of manual labor to get all of
these orders transfered.

[Guide] Updating your Huawei Ascend P7-L10 to Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop)

After going through days of Googling, asking people, researching, digging through XDA, fiddling with my own Ascend P7, I've finally managed to fit all the pieces together and make it work properly with the latest Lollipop update. It's posted on my blog because I might update it in the future and it's easier doing it there than maintaining a thread here on XDA. At least for me...
Article:
https://rejzor.wordpress.com/2015/12/03/update-huawei-ascend-p7-l10-to-android511
If you need any help, ask away here or on my blog, I don't require any registration so it's easy and fast even for those who aren't registered on XDA.
Followed the instructions. Worked like a charm.
Only exception was that I just did b839 update from the phone updater. As it gave me an option to DL and update from B830 > B839 as soon I turned it on at B839 step... was a 70-80mb update size, compared to the one you linked which was 1.3gb, entire thing.
Also what's the simplest way to root the phone now?
Yeah, you can use OTA updates, but I wanted to be sure and decided for full versions. With OTA you have to strictly follow the iterations where with full versions you can skip those in between. But since I haven't actually tested that I didn't want to write about it because things might behave differently then.
worked like charm, thanks! too bad we can't get rid of the emui though.
I honestly don't know why people hate EMUI so much. It has a bit of getting used to it at first, but after a week or two I liked it so much I never looked for any other launcher. It's smooth, really well and logically organized and simply works. The lack of separation between home screen and app drawer is actually pretty good. I just tossed less used apps in folders on last page and the more used ones on first 2-3 pages. Dunno, I really like it. Plus, it comes with tons of really useful features otherwise only found on rooted phones via 3rd party apps (the app firewall for example so you can prevent data transfer as well as roaming for individual apps).

Things I don't like so far

In order from most annoying:
Cannot whitelist k9 mail (and other things) from power saving (this is a deal breaker, I'm taking it back)
Long press to select text instead of double click (vanilla android allows both) (almost a deal breaker)
Media volume cannot be increased without acknowledging warning when BT connected
Can’t disable bixby button without samsung account
No root (needed to run webserver on 80 and change iptables)
Fingerprint sensor hard to find, hard to touch (compared to nexus 6p)
Default phone app sucks and can’t be changed
-Notifications for blocked numbers calling
-Hard to block numbers
-Hard to add recent calls to contacts (uses wrong account or something)
Volume buttons hard to find, on wrong side of phone
Samsung sms app is ugly and horrible (replaceable)
Samsung calendar app does not allow multiple default reminders (replaceable)
Lock screen time is on multiple lines with no way to change it
Thats nice. Enjoy.

Um, what phone is this, half the things you complain about can be done by the note 8, so must be another phone. Maybe he got the wrong forum...

Not about fanboys, you didn't ask for any help, just listed complaints. No one cares about personal complaints.
lol once again the user is the problem not the device... you can do all of those things either with an app from the play store or with root. maybe stick to something more simple? try iOS.
Not sure how moving to another Android device will help you.
Being that the OP has a total of 9, count them 9 posts and is a junior member, I'm guessing he's referring to the old days on the site when we were more help and less fanbois

Now we know from authoritative source that volume button is on the wrong side all those years, imagine that.
There are ways to adjust pretty much all of these points. Some are android specific - assume you are new to Android??
Did you even review the phone/play with it before spending on something you have chosen to dislike? To be fair you've come to a forum where 99.9999% of people are note enthusiasts so you will be whacked with a great big stick with a post like this :silly:
Ok how do you whitelist from power saving in a way that actually works? The settings interface for that is much different than stock android and doesn't actually let stuff run all the time like it does on my 6p. k9 always says syncing disabled (and works fine on 6p with stock nougat or oreo).
How do you get double-tap to select a word in text? Works by default in stock android.
After asking twice before to confirm increase volume while BT connected, it didn't ask this last time I increased it. I guess it is magically ok now.
How do you disable bixby button without creating a samsung account? There is an app that used to work using accessibility but no longer works in latest update.
How do you get root? The rooting page itself says "2.Enable OEM Unlock from developer option (Currently no workaround for those who doesn't have this option)" and I don't have this option.
How do you change the phone app? I tried downloading and installing one from apkmirror and got an error when installing.
How do you prevent notifications when blocked callers call?
How do you get normal time on the lock screen? Not the always on screen.

A respectful suggestion if I may.
Your first post was..... confrontational? Not the way to have your teething problems answered or supported.
Many of us, in all forum's, experience teething problems. I suggest you ask questions preferably one at a time so a peer can offer you some advice.
I have yet to ask for help here and not receive it. You will find there are some amazingly smart guys and gals here who will help IF you ask a palatable question. I am afraid what you have done is cause bad feeling and that's not the way to get help with your problems. Just food for thought. :good:

I agree with the fingerprint sensor placement, for me being left handed, I have ot align it perfectly for it to work. Luckily the iris scanner is fast.
One issue I am coming across is my phone would random reboot and some settings would be changed to stock. For example, the font size would be change to default instead of everything tiny. My quick shortcuts layouts are stock and I have to re-login into some apps.
It happened about 3 times since i got the phone the first week of September. Hopefully I'm not alone. Sucks if I am though...lol
There is no help for those issues. That is why there is no response, and why the phone is going back. I am surprised anyone can stand the samsung interface and that is why it might sound confrontational. The apps that samsung replaces default apps with are really awful.

The only issue or possibly even an advantage is Samsung is edging it's own ecosystem in more and more. , basically it encourages one to buy another Sammy device and stay on board with them.

Anybody can fan-boy and circlejerk, that takes no skill.
It takes skill to spot issues and courage to speak out on them.
Every phones has its issues, these do not make Note 8 useless, but buyers can more easily decide if it is for them, when they know its particular failings.

So which of the OP's claims do you really care about, because most are false, many are non issues for the majority and a few are valid. But the point remains that they were posted in the wrong forum.

It's not a critical assessment...it's a misleading one.
A few observations.
The volume button on the left side is the more ergonomic position and also makes it less likely you will drop the phone while changing volume making it an objectively better placement. The fingerprint scanner? Yeah, it's poor ergonomics at best and your complaint there is well justified.
Root is something you knew going in you wouldn't have, if it mattered you should have bought something else. I do agree in general that the trend toward taking root access from us is one I hate. That's why I bought an international version and rooted it.
The Samsung calendar app is less well featured than the stock app but it uses no resources when not used and you can always use the google app or one of the several better than stock google calendar apps on the play store. You don't get to complain about not having an app you can put on you phone in seconds which isn't even close to the best app of its kind anyways. I BTW didn't use the stock app on my 6P, didn't meet my needs.Samsung's stock SMS app is awful, IMO someone should be fired there because it falls below even a minimum level of functionality. But then while Googles does manage to get to at least a minimally functional feature set it isn't much better and both are a long way from what can be had in seconds for free that work better than either on the market. You don't get to complain about this one either though, the stock google app is a few clicks away and a few seconds will give that stock google experience if that is your preference.
Same number of clicks with Samsung to add a recent callers to contacts. Hard to do so is dismissed.
Hard to copy because you have to long press instead of double tap? Seriously? lol That's a fairly lame complaint without even taking into consideration the S-pen which opens up a whole world of options that you don't have on the 6P, one of which is using the S-Pen in the first place.
I like the default dialer and it has features which Google's does not. Regardless it can be changed as well as which dialer is the default, where did you get the idea you couldn't change dialers?
I don't have the media volume warning with my phone unless I'm on headphones, not sure why you do?
The Bixby button can be disabled, it can be disabled without signing into Samsung. Just an FYI, it can also be slaved to another function. All without root.
You can white list any app from power saver, just takes a few clicks, assuming of course you know which clicks. You have in an oblique way a real gripe here, Samsung's menus are getting better but they are still too bloated. The search menu function is your friend in pursing hard to find settings.
Who uses lock screens in this day an age? You've get bio-metrics and AOD, leaving the lock screen as an artifact of what was once the best we could do but isn't anymore. Think of it this way, I'm a pathetic old man and I've been able to understand that lockscreens are now just an extra step. Your complaint in this regard reminds me of my friends who cant handle new tech and are still trying to hang on to their flip phone.
At this point you probably think I'm busting your balls a little bit and you're right. On the other hand your complaints are largely groundless. The only real objective gripe you have is the fingerprint sensor location. Your assessment of the volume button location is subjective, not objective, and objectively is incorrect. Your complaints about the stock apps can be applied to google apps in the same way and most of which I changed on my 6P just as I have here. The impression I get is that the main problem you have is you need to learn how to shop better. There is no reason to buy a phone that does not have root if you know you want root. There is no reason to buy a phone well known for it's rather overbearing GUI and menu bloat if you know you are going to hate it. Why do that to yourself?

Worth updating to Pie?

1. The best you can do untill ota arrives is to try via hicare. That way i managed to install emui9 on my vtr-l29c432. The firmwares on ff might cause a brick if it's not the right one for your device so i don't think it's worth the risk.
2.In terms of performace i find the overall system a bit faster and smoother in transitions so for me it's a worth upgrade. No slowdowns or whatever, it's quick and stable with no issues so far (approx. 2weeks of use). Battery seems to be the same, depends on your usage, it may dry fast if you always on screen or it can last a full day if you don't stress it out. About the video i'm not so sure about it but on 1080p 60fps seems to be fine but again i'm not sure about it. I dont record that much on the phone, i ocasionally take some pictures and the camera seems to be fine. Maybe with future updates will be better. It's all about your preferences.
3. I don't use root but maybe it's possible with magisk.
4.Yes, with hisuite.

To upgrade to EMUI 9, you need a full firmware - those are listed as VTR-L29C432E1R1P9B165 (9.0.1.165), as an example. The LGRP2 firmwares, those are core system update images for non-Chinese devices (the Bnnn portion of the build number); they split the pieces apart into separately versioned bits with Pie.
I can't say anything for EMUI 9 features specifically, as I installed it for the updated vendor image, not EMUI.
You can root, with Magisk. They removed the ability to boot with a ramdisk in a normal boot, so Magisk takes over recovery instead; newer releases can boot both ways by button detection at boot time.
Downgrade - hisuite.
My battery life went down, but to early to say, because theese Huaweis is smart and needs time to learn habits and battery use... In two weeks I know more.
I don't think it's worth it. Smoother animations and better zoom photo quality are the only upsides. Other than that:
- camera app is much less intuitive, swiping between modes is slow and irritating, that's one of the things that should not be copied from iOS
- no video stabilization whatsoever
- image color processing is a hit and miss (it hates nature), when it gets slightly darker images are too dark
- I lost 1 hour of screen on time
- gallery app is stupid, it lost all the customization. You can't change folders to a list, you can't even rearrange the order!
- screenshot "mechanic" is stupid, it adds one unnecessary step to the process if you want to edit it or something
- themes app is unuseable, it got worse going from Nougat to Oreo, now it's just a messy store. Keep the theme you're on right now and forget about it.
- NFC issues (file transfer works, mobile payments don't).
In short - If your P10 works fine don't bother with the update.

Can underline this.
Also the Memo-App is bad now, no more tick-boxes for quick notes (which is really annoying) and other small issues.
On of the most annyoing is the changing of notification colors on the lockscreen. This is so infuriating for me.....
I dig the Pie, better blutooth, and cams and gallery is nice here, also like the look on swipe menu, and maneuver...
The battery is better today.. I've blockcharged while I was in the shower and 50% now...
It's an old phone.. so I usually block charge abit on the night, in weekend I tend to stay up abit later also...
The phone is faster loading and multitasking.
Gallery is nice? What's nice about it? Blinding white background while viewing your pictures? Or the fact that you cannot do such basic thing as rearranging the order of your folders?
Pie on p10 is very battery efficient. It's so efficient at killing background processes that even calendar notifications won't work properly anymore. Last time I had alarm 22 hours and some minutes late. All other notifications appear at very random times, but always very late. Notifications work fine only for a few days until the app probably gets kicked out of ram. Completeley useless.
And then there is camera with much worse low light quality, bluetooth problems, useless themes app and bunch of other completely useless features and I'm slowly having enough of huawei and their updates. I've had my p10 since march 2017 and I don't think it ever worked without at least one major bug.
Ok I get the point, pie is for someone good and for - too many - a mess. But, maybe because it's a beta? On FF I cannot understand if it9s a beta release or not. Because some other versions of oreo are been released on April with Pie.
And BTW I have spend some time to read some threads here (dated March) and the @Jannomag scripts and it's obvious that it's too early to install it. There is no TWRP, and install magisk is completed and unreliable.
So maybe I will update oreo and wait that pie is mature enough at least that I could install twrp and magisk. Because, honestly, I don't care that gallery app or themes are worst, I could always replace them, the importance is that the system is usable.
It's not a beta. I got it through HiCare app, it's an official OTA update. Besides - most of the things I'm complaining about are present in P30 as well. That's how EMUI 9 is supposed to work.
@Imnotdriving, how is Bluetooth better? Asking because it might be a factor in my decision to upgrade ?
As it turns out, my phone got the pie update last night so I got my own answer. One previously stubborn to connect speaker now connects quickly with aptx Bluetooth hence confirming that Bluetooth is improved.
Otherwise I like the new gesture navigation option in this update. Beyond that, not much is different for the way I use the phone.
There are a lot of new services running and I disabled about a dozen of the low hanging fruit. There's more that I'm sure I'll disable over time once I find out what they do.

For the initial update, the LGRP1/LGRP2 packages shouldn't be used - while it's marked FullOTA, it's not a complete build, as it's missing various partitions that need to be flashed in an upgrade from Oreo. (Basically, you'll brick if you flash one of those.)
If you're already on Pie, either works equally well.

So I should use the VTR-L29C432E1R1P9B185 package with the script here? After that I can update pie with LGRP2? But is LGRP2-OVS a sort of beta?

I've done all of my updates to P using a nocheck recovery. I can't say anything about the tricks with HiSuite or the script you've mentioned, though they should work just fine.
As far as the build numbers go: LGRP1-CHN and LGRP2-OVS are the China and everywhere else builds, respectively. It's possible that some of them might be beta, though I suspect the release notes would give up some indication of that.

How To Guide Show Turn On MIUI Optimizations in Developer Options

Warning: Use at your own risk. You can temporarily turn off to do what you want and turn on again. Like when you want to install the latest YouTube Vanced.
1. Make sure in Languages & Input, Autofill is set to Google.
2. In Developer's options scroll down to Autofill section and tap on "Reset to default values" 4 times and the Turn On MIUI Optimizations will appear just below.
Tested on Sweet - Global with 12.0.10.

Because MIUI "optimizations" is actually an annoyance sometimes. It won't allow some apps to be sideloaded, for example. It's too aggressive and will hinder the normal functioning of some apps.
As I said, use it to temporarily disable to install something you cannot install and re-enable it.
If it's so important, Google would have implemented into core Android.
You won't destroy the phone by turning it on temporarily, if that is what you are afraid of. And Xiaomi would have completely disabled even this hidden setting if it's unsafe.
And I have already stated the warning before the guide. If someone don't know what they are doing and why they need to do it, then don't.

I agree.
Whatever Xiaomi does is not always for users safety; it is for its benefit too. If that was the case, Xiaomi should not have allowed users to unlock bootloader in the first place.

Not that what I'm pointing to ...
I'm not talking about overall about "Miui Optimization" option. We have a different situation with our Redmi Note 10 series. Xiaomi hide it from regular users and keep it in secret place for Developers users.
we don't know if it safe to use it we don't know the cons on our amoled or device by disabling Miui Optimization or make Always on display work all the time !
maybe it's temporary at least for a few stock miui builds, maybe we won't talk about this in next few weeks or months
Xiaomi is okay, but we still need to be careful. Not everything they do is best for us.
Anyway, enjoy your Note 10 Pro. I believe this is one of the best phones released by Xiaomi (or even by other phones). It rivals even flagship phones by other companies.
Cheers!
