Question Heating - Samsung Galaxy S23

Hi, I have had the phone for a few days and it feels quite warm. Is that the case with you?
They only use social networks. The degrees reach 38 40. And the phone feels quite warm.

Hello, I bought the s23 a few days ago. My device is getting hot in some applications. Especially when I open the camera, when I enter the settings section, when I change the camera and video settings, it gets hot. How is your screen on time and battery values?

4-5 hour's on screen.

And what's screen off time?

Almost the same . In other forms, they said that the device does not heat up at all. I couldn't understand too

15 hours.

We'll hook up someone else to see how the temperatures are.

Yes, we will wait for other users' feedback on their temperature status.

How's the weather in your locality, based on the warm and cold weather conditions the phone heat will differ too! Also, it's a new phone so it'll receive an update which will solve the heat problem.

Where I live, the air temperature is around -6, but inside the house it is 22 degrees. As you said, it can be fixed with an update, but it affects all s23 users?

hello, when you bought the phone, did you transfer using samsung smart switch? I think we encountered this problem because we did it this way.

50/50

Just got my S23. It is about 4 Celsius more than S22. I live in a hot country, but using Facebook and whatsapp, it gets 37 to 41 Celsius. My s22 was ~4 degrees less
But phone feels very fast. No lag

Adding more info, I'm still on AWA6 firmware. Some countries already got an update AWBD wich idk if it improves anything.

mine reaches 45° too sometimes when it's hot outside.. i'd say everything under 50° is okay, because don't forgett that aluminum gets hot way faster than plastic. so maybe another phone gets hot too, but you don't recognize it..

But if the thermometer is reading a higher temperature, it means the battery is hotter, not necessarily just the case.
What is the browsing temp for an S4?
I think having a aluminium body is a nice thing as at-least the screen remains cool.
Had a SGS 4 its screen would really turn hot Body can be tolerated as you can cover it but not possible with screen. Now as your phone also getting heated to 45 , I am ok with it as i thought it was problem with mine.

of course, but i just wanted to say that we're locking much more on the temps because we feel it gets hot very fast. i have no idea about the s4, maybe have a look into the s4 forum..?

ok i think 45° when there is 30° outside is ok
My s4 stays well above 35*C when idle and above 45*c when doing light tasks.
it even reaches 60*c . main problem is that the screen gets too hot and its impossible to touch it .

60°C... this is getting dangerous, because there's a way of reactions in this temperatures with Li-Po/Li-Ion batterys that destroy the cell structure..
yuppp
here outside temp is 40* so 45 is cool for me hehe. and in airconditioned room it drops to 28

The One actually has some good heat management in my opinion.
Remember that aluminum is a natural heat conductor and commonly used for heatsinks on engines and CPUs. It will generally feel a little warmer then a plastic phone but that just means its working

Z1 temperature

Hi, just got my Z1 today and am super exited. Just one thing though..with mild to medium usage it hangs around 33-37 degrees celsius. Also with it just sitting there its at 33 degrees. Is this normal? I know its make mostly of metal and glass so this might not be a problem. Just wanted to make shure. I appreciate any response! Thanks!

HTC One - Overheating Issue

Hi guys,
Im new here and fairly new to Android coming from the iPhone (I know....what was I thinking with apple?)..
I have the first HTC One for Verizon, I love this phone and generally don't have any problems with it. I have been testing out ROMs and have been pretty successful with them but the only problem I have is after steady use, maybe 15-20 minutes the phone gets hot. (not burning my hand hot..) But just out of concern for the phone, is this normal or is it damaging to the phone? I'd like to try to make this last the 2 year contract I just bought.
- Thanks in advance

should be OK, the cover acts as heat sink, that's why you can feel the heat more than other phones. afaik, the max HTC specification temperature is 55C.
when the phone goes beyond specification temperature (eg using navigation in the car in sunlight while charging) the LED will start blinking red, and charging will be disabled to prevent damage.
EDIT: you could install an app to monitor temperature; GSAM can monitor batter & temperature
and if you use a lot of apps that use high cpu, you can think about installing a custom kernel with more "aggressive" thermal options

Oh thats good to know. Thank you for the reply. Brand new phone, I probably get a little paranoid but better safe then sorry. I will look into a custom kernel if I start to see that flashing red from overheating. Thanks again..

I've never had any problems. When running CPU intensive apps, my battery goes up to 45C but not more.
The hottest I've noticed it was using navigation in the car (but didn't check temperature as I was driving), but I almost never use that anyway.

Hahaha, up here in NYC that doesn't sound like such a bad idea. If I wasn't scared of blowing up my phone I'd attempt overclocking for extra heat.

I've found in the ROM I am running an app called Trickster MOD which displays all the temps and clock speeds. Staying steady around 40-45c depending on what I am doing. More toward 45c when playing games. I guess as someone said before, because of the metal casing you can feel the heat coming from the device. Thank you for your feedback everyone.

LOL on the heating part :silly:
but sounds about right on the temperature, my phone also stays between 40 to 45C when using games or graphic/cpu intensive programs; i've had it since about march or april, and no adverse effects (so far?)
i almost never use navigation, but if you want to test temperature, try it, it REALLY heats up.

I use the Google Maps Navigation often cause I do alot of walking around NYC and I often get lost in my own city lol. Ive actually never noticed any feeling of heat higher then any other app. Then again I use it for short term walking, usually 20-30 minutes at most.

It really unpleasant to hold.
My previous phone was Moto G5 plus, and I didn't have that problem with G5.
How about x4?

No heating issue unless I use the phone with full brightness under direct sunlight
With normal usage (browsing and playing games), the phone never overheats.

Yup yup, never had overheating problems. Granted there aren't any games on my phone nor do I ever go higher than half brightness but even while doing browsing and such while it's charging it never gets more than what I'd guess room temp.

In northern hemisphere the first summer for this phone is starting. we will see about overheating in June.
No overheating here too. I'm using a Spigen TPU cover so it should be getting even warmer than in other situations but it doesen't. The highest I've seen is 27°C with the internal probe which means barely hotter than skin surface outside. Also it cools down really rapidly even with the case on.

Question S21 Ultra Snapdragon Always Running Warm

Simple use of the phone - browsing, instagram, google news, whatsapp, etc., the phone gets warm. Playing PUBG for 30 minutes, the phone gets a lot warmer, but never hot to the touch. The only way it stays cool is if I'm not using it at all. In comparison, my OnePlus 7 Pro stays cool all the time, except when playing graphic-heavy games.
Any setting I'm missing?
Welcome to the hot club!
That's odd my s21 ultra stays cool barely warm when gaming
If you have the Exynos version of the phone, then that could explain the heat. But if you have a SD888 variant, then your phone will still get a little warm, but not quite as hot as the Exynos.
Using GSAT to check temperature levels, any light activity gets the phone to about 36C to 37C. I tried restarting the phone about 5 times in a row and it went to about 44C.

Thanks for updating your post title =). That's the clarity we need for this phone on XDA.
Anyway, I'm unsure of this, but I'm pretty sure that when a phone is booting up it generally creates a tiny bit of heat because it's just getting everything initially setup for that boot.
But yeah, just be glad that you have the SD version. If you didn't, it might be even hotter! And I agree that this phone still gets pretty warm - I just haven't done any temperature tests on mine. Either way, do you happen to be using a case on this phone? I'm a caseless phone user and my phone still gets warm when used for an extended period of time... So I have a feeling that some thicker, heat sealing cases might be turning these phones into toasters...
*Edit* - maybe they'd be more like hand warmers? Lol

Coming from a OnePlus 7 Pro, the heat generated during light use is so noticeable that I had to install a temp monitor (gsat). No problems with previous phone.
I have the official leather cover on, it may contribute to the heat but it shouldn't be that much, I reckon.
I don't need hand warmers haha.

Please take a 10 minute 4K30 Video and say how much % battery it drained and if the phone got hot.
I also have the Snapdragon version and I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal or not, but my phone gets warm often especially the aluminum on the top left opposite of the camera. I've been keeping track of the temperature and it seems like my phone is always operating around 33C - 35C on normal everyday use like browsing, instagram and youtube. When I use the camera it goes to almost 40C. These numbers are around 91F-95F and 104F respectively. I recorded a 3 minute video on 4k60 and that's when it hit around 40C. Really trying to figure out if I should do an exchange.

Exynos: Lost the same 5% as you reported, and phone got hot around the camera module. Temperature of surrounding environment was around 20-25 degrees celcius. The phone didn't feel especially hot in general otherwise (using a relatively slim case).
Losing 5% in 10 minutes means about 30% per hour. So one could record in 4K for about 3-4 hours straight? Is that really that bad?

Yes, that's what I thought. I'm coming from the S9+, and there were several issues with that too when it first came out, which were all fixed with subsequent updates.
Just curious, how do you find the recording in FHD60? That's been my default recording as I don't actually have any 4K monitors.

Just thought I'd update here - re-tested with the April update. Lost 4% in 10 minutes on 4K30 video recording this time. Heating not as bad, although that's simply guessing/subjective (I don't have a heatgun).

It's just natural to lose 4% in 10 mins of 4k30fps recording. You are basically using all the system resources when operating the camera - i.e. the CPU, RAM and storage all run at the highest. It's not just this device you test this on any device iOS included and the results will be almost the same.
