Can my bootloader be unlocked? - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I'm sorry in advance if this was addressed already. I just bought an unlocked S20 FE (G781U1) online because I wanted it to be my gaming device. I saw videos and xda threads online about rooting and unlocking the bootloader. I am sure I followed all the steps correctly when installing ADB and fastboot. However right at the steps where I type "fastboot oem unlock", it keeps failing. My device can be detected when i type both adb devices and fastboot devices so I was sure I am following the right steps. I even tried typing the "fastboot flashing unlock" and that also came up as a command failed. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to install new fastboot/adb drivers?
Here is a screen shot from my device information.
Also, in the off chance that this is not possible to unlock the bootloader or root, is there a way to optimize the phone's gaming performance such as overclocking cpu/gpu? I have only debloated the samsung softwares.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Samsung phones don't natively support fastboot in this way for unlocking (or anything else). also worse still you have a U1 model i.e. a US model which sadly don't have unlockable bootloaders by normal means.
if it's on very early firmware it's possible that a paid service may be able to unlock it for you. having looked at your screenshot this doesn't apply here.

Thanks for the reply.
Man, I was hoping I was just doing something wrong instead.
So this phone is pretty much impossible to be rooted at this current time? I was looking on the xda threads on kingoroot but it seems like everyone is saying they are pretty shady. I was thinking if I could use that tool, I could root it and overclock my phone then reverse everything (kingoroot stuff) and hope the overclock would stay?

[KitKat] [Lollipop] Root XT1039/XT1040 CF-Auto-Root Peregrine By Chainfire

CF-Auto-Root Peregrine by Chainfire
I asked chainfire to provide us with a supporting root programme to root the Moto G 4G edition XT1039/XT1040 Peregrine
This will root the Moto G XT1039/XT1040 on KitKat or Lollipop
Instructions
Copy file to pc
Connect phone to PC via USB
Put phone in fastboot mode
Unzip all the files in zip
Run the script depending on what
operating system you are using
Restart phone once done
Optional step
Open the supersu app and update the binary (normal method not recovery)
Download
Chainfires CF-Auto-Root site Here
Notes
You need an unlocked bootloader
You need to unlock your bootloader via the Motorola website before using this!
If you have already unlocked your bootloader in the past it will not format data
This version should do all Peregrine models but use at your own risk
All credit goes to chainfire for making the package

Nice work, thanks!

Thanks you marcussmith2626 (and to Chainfire of course) I have seen the CF AutoRoot the other day and was thinking that the one for XT1003 would surely work for the XT1039/1040/1042/1045, but having one specially made for ours is better.
One thing to know: the recovery is not flashed, only booted (command used is fastboot boot), so no change is made to the (custom) recovery, which is good.
I have already rooted my XT1039 so I do not need to use this but I will use it next time I flash my phone.
I don't know if Chainfire will regularly update these images to update superSU binary, but updating it from Playstore is very easy anyway

So this means, we do not need the motorola-website to get an unlock code? CF-Root will unlock
the bootloader on its own? Meaning Motorola can never know that the bootloader was unlocked,
if we lock it again?

No you need to unlock the phone via the Motorola website if you have never unlocked the bootloader before
It means if you have relocked the bootloader since you unlocked it then it will unlock it again
WIll I be able to update OTA to Lollipop (when it comes available), with this applied?
/EDIT:
I think I have an answer to above question:
To be able to sideload the OTA I will:
1) download and extract the 5.0 factory image
2) fastboot flash boot boot.img
3) fastboot flash system system.img
4) adb sideload The5_0_1OTA.zip
Anyone can confirm this?
I know I will lose root again after following above steps.

Only time will tell if you can update whilst rooted
If you change any apps in system it's unlikely you will be able to
It doesn't change the recovery so you will still have stock recovery
There is an unroot feature in the supersu app but I don't know if this is enough to fully unroot
If all else fails you can always flash stock 4.4.4 and then update
How to get pass < Waiting for device>
How do you get past the <waiting for device> screen on a mac. I can't seem to overcome that part.

I also tried unlocking through the motorola website and it tells me I cannot unlock device. Is this normal?

[Q] Changing Sprint to International version

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to turn my Sprint M8 into International version of the device, what I mean is, is it possible to change the software or OS version preinstalled from sprint and install the one that the International version of the M8 uses? How? Thanks!

You can't really change a Sprint device into a different variant. Only a Sprint-compatible kernel will boot on the Sprint variant, and network connectivity will only work with Sprint firmware installed. So really, the answer is no.

Updating is easy - just run the latest RUU. It'll wipe your data, but it'll give you a nice clean start. The device should remain unlocked. You can even leave the stock recovery intact after that and just fastboot boot TWRP to install SuperSU for root. That'll allow you to take future OTA updates (as long as you don't change anything on /system).

http://twrp.me/devices/htconem8gsm.html
Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required):
You will need the platform-tools from the Android SDK on your computer. Find the SDK Only section on the page linked and install the SDK and download only the platform-tools to get adb and fastboot binaries.
Windows users will need proper drivers installed on your computer. You can try the Naked ADB drivers or the Universal ADB drivers if you don't already have a working driver installed
On your device, go into Settings -> About and find the Build Number and tap on it 7 times to enable developer settings. Press back and go into Developer Options and enable USB debugging. From your computer, open a command prompt and type:
adb reboot bootloader
You should now be in fastboot mode. Download the correct image file and copy the file into the same folder as your adb and fastboot binaries. Rename the image to twrp.img and type:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot. To prevent this, use Google to find the proper key combo to enter recovery. After typing fastboot reboot, hold the key combo and boot to TWRP. Once TWRP is booted, TWRP will patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. If you don't follow this step, you will have to repeat the install.

[Root][Magisk] Honor 10 - COL-AL10 (C675)

Hi All,
I found some people have lost Volte on their Honor 10 phones by flashing LastStandingDroid's img. (which may not be compatible with devices in India)
Below are the versions which you can use for India.
Installation :
1. Download the attachment and place it in the same directory as your fastboot.
2. Make sure that you have unlocked the bootloader.
3. Run :
Code:
fastboot flash ramdisk col_al10_magisk_120.img
OR
Code:
fastboot flash ramdisk col_al10_magisk_131.img
OR
Code:
fastboot flash ramdisk col_al10_magisk_140.img
OR
Code:
fastboot flash ramdisk col_al10_magisk_150.img
4. Install Magisk Manager
5. Install Magisk using Magisk Manager just to be sure.
(Please click on Thanks button instead of posting 'Thanks' as a reply. Helps keep the thread clean ! )
**WARNING** : I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE.
PLEASE DO NOT FLASH IF YOU ARE UNAWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING
**Disclaimer**
The patches have been created using Magisk. So BIG THANKS & Credit goes to Magisk Team for working hard and being so cool !

Btw, I didnt get any notification for 131 update. Have they made any changes to Ramdisk ? If yes, then its better not to flash. If there is no changes in Ramdisk, then you can flash.

Use LastStandingDroid's img in the other thread. This Image is for COL-AL10.
but you need something to do all this to install the magisk when then in reality you have created absolutely no rom that can be alternative I have equally valid nor a kernel that can increase the performance or eventually the battery life?
Just got the GPU turbo update (140) in India.
Will it work On the 140?
Edit : also, isn't it is easier to flash twrp first and then flash magisk(official one, no modifications) itself?

I'm already rooted and using with twrp. During my time there was no source for my Indian ramdisk so couldn't able to back my recovery .
I root it via tool call " Huawei team mt multi tool".
The thing is I wanted to keep my default recovery also but firmware Finder didn't have any full firmware that time. Now, somehow I pull the latest 142 firmware for Indian version, if you want for 142 I can make a patch magisk if you want to use that's it

What is written below is for both CN and EU versions, but the files attached are for CN only!
Please pay attention that files attached are version-specific

Unlock the bootloader with a help of apk file
Install Magisk manager apk to your stock system
Enter fastboot mode and perform there:
fastboot flash --disable-verification vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
fastboot reboot
EDIT/NOTE
In order to have Magisk out of Core Only Mode:
boot into TWRP, mount SYSTEM in RW mode and from the computer perform
Code:
adb shell "cat /system/build_19771.prop >> /system/build.prop"
adb reboot
For EU version (RMX1993) you should replace 19771 with 19672 in the filename.
EDIT 2
I attach here a file with A.13 version boot image patched for magisk. Of course, you should change the file name in the howto above, the line with fastboot flash boot ...
In the next few days I hope to provide more detailed Root howto, thus there will be no dependency on any files from here for the next version releases.
EDIT 3
Here comes the next version A.14. Please find the corresponding file attached. vbmeta.img stays identical for all versions.
Thanku

Excellent, I have already tried the root without installing the twrp. then waiting for better times I restored stock locking up the bootloader. Here on the forum regarding the root guides, there are two and there is some confusion for a neophyte who wants to try his hand at mod. It would need only one clear and complete, perhaps integrating it with the procedure for restoring stock if one wanted to go back. For now I'm working like crazy, for example tonight night shift. but as soon as I have some time I will try to make a draft.
Unlocking guide with:
links and steps to follow for using the tool, (deep start test)
commands for dump recovery stock, (dd if)
links to files and commands for the flash of vbmeta and magisk,
link to the file and commands for the TWRP flash.
Guide to stock recovery with:
links and commands for the recovery stock flash,
link to the official rom to flash with the recovery stock,
Command to lock the bootloader,
links and steps for using the tool, (exit from the deep test)
in the end they would put the XDA threads links to any custom roms, for example starting from this one.

Hi man, thanks for your quick answer. Sorry that I posted my question in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if it had to be posted here or in Q&A, Ur right! I just picked the wrong option.
Yes! My phone has the software version V409NUA30b, it is the latest I could find when I decided to flash it to my phone I was happy with it until I found out that somehow the phone limits the processor's performance when it gets to certain temperature specifically when I use dolphin or cirtra emulators, tha's why i want to root it. But it seems It cannot be done unless you install TWRP, which also needs to have the bootloader unlocked.
I believe I won't get any OTA updates due to crossflashing and also because I am based in the republic of Panama.
I read the thread you are refering to and I saw that the files given to use QFIL are for Oreo and also the author suggested that they are not supposed to work with Pie, even though some people has been able to use them.
That is why I thought that the guide did no apply to my phone.
I am going to follow your advice and post this question in the right place.
If you know anything else, please do not hesitate in letting me know.
thanks again!

So, first, the guide you're referring to does have a few Pie files attached to it, but that's because the author was on Pie when he wrote it. The procedure he describes works for all versions of android, including Q.
So it certainly does apply, just be sure to save off your own abl and laf partitions prior to writing over them or erasing them. And also your boot partition, and for good measure, save ftm, fsg, modem, modemst1 and modemst2, they contain specific imei and s/n info for your specific / individual phone.
Also, there will never again be updates, lg is out of phone business, so forget that
check this thread for some additional info and files you will need. I'd suggest use lgup to go to 30f, that way you'll at least have the last security patch available.
cheers

Thanks again man.
So i was able to update to V4009NUA30f. Thank you for letting me know there was a new version.
I followed the process to unlock the bootloader but somehow I am unable to get into bootloader / fastboot mode. When I flash the v35eng.img to the abl_a it seems to be ok according to Qfill. But my bootloader does not seem to exist in the phone.
I tried to boot the phone into bootloader using adb reboot bootloader but it only restarts the phone.
Do you have an idea what could be wrong?
Thanks!

yes, yer flashing it to the inactive slot. The thing about the v35 eng abl, when you have it flashed (to the correct slot), your phone won't boot. It will only be able to go to fastboot.
In your case, the phone is booting, so you have to be flashing v35 eng abl to the wrong slot. It's the other one that's active.

OK! So I guess we are talking about the abl_b, right!?
Also, I saw in the other link you sent me the twrp+boot image. Once I unlock the bootloader and flash my back up abl file, then I would have to flash it (the twrp+boot) to the abl_b slot again right!?

No no no. You never flash an image to an incorrect partition. Abl partitions get abl images, boot partitions get boot images. Don't mix them up!
