Reading up on battery life. Here is what I discovered. Its bad to have the phone running and charging at night, even though their is circuitry to stop it charging when it reaches a certain point. I do, however, need to charge my phone at night to maintain a full battery throughout the day. So why not turn the phone off at night and charge it. I tried it last night and the phone was cool to the touch when I took it off the charger(sometimes its warm when I unplug it). I don't know if that will preserve battery life, but I think this might be a reasonable compromise. Thoughts?
I've always just plugged in over night without powering down. My cell phone is my only phone. I never shut it off. If you are having problems with plugging in overnight then you should get your phone replaced. It's designed to be plugged in without a problem.
The problem with charging the phone when it is powered on, is if you have a faulty app or system process that uses too much cpu power, so the cpu gets hot, also the phone will be trying to use the battery while it is charging the battery, not a good thing, that`s heat upon heat.
I have see this happen a few times, went to pick up your phone and it was very hot.
I use batterybot to monitor my charge and battery temp levels and have a alarm set if the temp goes over 40c, also charge at 80% and discharge at 30% , I virtually never fully charge or discharge my battery as this can damage it and reduce it`s life by quite a bit.

Then that app would have caused an even bigger issue when it's actually in use, and anyone worrying about battery life who has not noticed what is eating his battery power during daytime really shouldn't be worrying at all
I've been using a new original battery for 6 months now, but only yesterday, it seems to be acting very odd, whenever i place My finger on the usb port on the phone, it charges, and sometimes it even charges by itself then stops charging then starts charging again. however i do not believe its charging because the drain is awful as its gone down 10 % in 40 minutes. can someone please help me here. the battery and fine. and I can't check the drain on bbs as it's always charging then not, hence bbs restarts.
may be its time for a new USB charging module.. try cleaning it first...(remove battery first.)
have done, doubt thats the solution, ive noticed, that it only charges by itself when the battery is 40 percent, when the battery drains to ~20% in which it does so very quickly, from 90% to 16% in 90 minutes, the odd charging by itself stops. it may be a rogue battery i guess. going to have to try anker batteries, the originals are not that good.
So I think i found an issue with this case.
I was at 35% battery on my phone and the case was at 1 light. I plugged in the charger at night hoping to charge both the internal battery and the case to 100% when I woke up. The phone was on charge for about 7 hours, which is more than enough to charge both internal and external battery.
I woke up to the phone battery being at 65% and the Zerolemon with the 4 light blinking.
What I think happened is this: At 4 AM my phone got charged to 100% (this was confirmed in the battery settings) , but because the charge is being relayed/passed through the the zerolemon battery, the zerolemon battery disconnected the charge when the internal battery reached 100% as it is designed to do to avoid overcharging the battery. After the disconnect, the internal battery began to discharge at its normal rate and when I woke up at 730, the battery was at 65%.
I'm not sure why the Zerolemon battery wasn't fully charged with 4 solid lights, isntead the 4th light was blinking.
Can anyone shed some light on this behaviour? If this is normal case, then I don't think I can ever get 100% charge on my battery overnight as the zerolemon will always disconnect the charge when the internal battery reaches 100%?
I don't have this case...But if your phone was discharging at it's "normal rate", and was at 65% when you woke up after it charged to 100%, you have a serious issue.

I've got this case, and haven't had this problem, but I will keep an eye on it. That seems weird. Your battery shouldn't have dropped that much in such a short period of time anyway. Try leaving your phone unplugged overnight without the case on it and see if the battery drains that badly in its own. This would at least let you know if the case is causing the problem or your phone is.

Agreed, I'll do another test tonight without the case to see what the discharge is without the case. I did go through 4 alarm clocks during the 4am to 730am period, but i agree the battery drain is excessive for 3.5 hours of no use other than alarm clocks.
I really hope the case isn't causing any battery drain when its not charging the phone.

I've never let the phone on without a charger overnight, so i have no way of knowing for sure if it was the zerolemon case or normal battery drain even if excessive.
I'll do more tests to find out.
I also have the case, and like the above commenters, I haven't had this problem. My best thought would be that the connection from the case to the phone is faulty, or not totally secure. Maybe take everything apart and reconnect it. Hopefully that does the trick

We checked the issue with our engineers. It should be the phone itself which drains the battery . Below is the battery how to work. 1. Plug the battery case with your note 5 in it to wall with original charger 2. cell phone itself will get charged to 100% first(battery meter will show 100%),then it will be switched to charge the external battery until the indication lights are 4 solid lights which proves the external battery is fully charged. 3. After the 2 steps, your cell phone battery meter may drain to 95% or 90% it all depends. Your cell phone will get charged again to 100%. 4. All charging completed.

Tried all above steps. Battery connection is secure, all four lights are solid on. Phone is at 100% then drains during day without the zerolemon battery taking over and charging. I'm about to send it back unless the manufacturer has other suggestions. This should be dead simple..... but I'm not getting a charge.
The Note 5 has a HUGE battery drain issue that is model driven. AT&T note 5 will lose a HUGE amount of battery overnight and this is due to AT&T being the worse coders in the world.
I have the 8500 mah zerolemon battery case. .for me , the charging of the battery case takes a longer time indeed. Close to 15-16 hrs to charge it fully. Not sure if its the same for everyone or this should charge quicker. Would it make a difference that bought this case in USA, and using now in India?

I've had a few Zerolemon cases. Here is how they seem to work:
1. The charging passes through to the phone until the phone's internal battery hits 100 percent.
2. The case starts charging itself, ignoring the phone, until the case is at 100 percent. Depending on how much battery drain you have with your ROM and kernel, this may cause the internal phone battery to drop by 30 percent or even a little bit more.
3. Once the case is at 100 percent battery, it will charge the phone back up to 100 also.
It's not perfect, but it normally charges both my case and phone fully overnight. In cases where both were really close to dead, I've charged them separately and this seems to be quicker. Any microUSB charger is fine for the battery case, since it doesn't support rapid charging anyway.
Also, if you disconnect the charging cable and reconnect it, even for a split second, the case will go back to step 1.
It feels obvious that the case should be able to charge itself and the phone at the same time, but it seems not to be possible. And having used (and hated) a Mophie case that claimed to have that feature, I can tell you that just because the manufacturer claims the case can charge itself while it's also charging the phone, that isn't necessarily true.
Have we found that alarms will cause a problem? Mine will cease all charging at night. trying to figure out. I'll wake up with 20% down on phone(from start of charge) and single light on case blinking. After 6 hours+.

I used to use the case with no problem. The overnight charge was always sufficient for both, phone and zerolemon charge bank. This morning I got 43% and only one light blinking after the overnight charge.
Prior to that I was "playing" with some battery apps, installing, trying, uninstalling. IS IT POSSIBLE that any app can change setting to make zerolemon battery not to be charged or else?
So like the title said i have replaced the battery in my P9, with an original battery. It has the same part number and all that. I have noticed that the phone won't charge the replacement battery, i have returned the new battery in warranty and revived another one. Same thing, the phone starts up as soon as you plug in any kind of power source to it , like a charger, but no charging notification. The notification light pulses in rare intervals (some thing of 10 secs or more) but it's not steadily on like when normally charging. And the most vexing thing is : if i replace the original battery it charges. Unfortunately the the original battery now has the bad habit of cutting out on me at random from anywhere 47% or bellow .... The phone is nearly 3 year old now.
Have you given the new batteries some time to charge? Maybe they were delivered to you fully discharged.
First one was on 85% the second on 60% or so. I kept the 1st one on charger for a whole weekend... Still nothing
Have you tried to callibrate the original battery (you say it suddenly drops if below 40%)?
Yes, I have allowed the battery to run down to 3% and the phone turning itself off. Then fully charged it while being off. So the original battery is just plain old, nearly 3y old. The problem is that the phone refuses to charge the new batteries regardless of original charge. Also it turns automatically on when you plug in a charger, not just showing the charge animation. That is not normal behavior.

I've done that after reading you'r message , but i have already done the steps not req root. And i'm not willing to root my phone.

Did you manage to find a resolution to this issues? I'm having the same problem with my P9. I changed my battery, and it now won't charge. It turns on ok, and everything seems to be working. When I plug in the charging cable, it makes the sound it usually does, the battery symbol flashes green but instantly turns white again. When the phone is off, plugging the cable in switches it on, but no charge. I've had two replacement batteries, both have the same issue. Also, the original battery is now doing the same. I'm wondering if I damaged something while removing the battery.

Had same issue with replacement battery
After replacement battery isn't charging. Problem is in bad connections
(probably from long shelf storage connectors got rusty)
Voltage was fine but temperature reading was way off (very low -2) and phone didn't charge battery
Problem is that there was no error message about battery temp.
After cleaning the contactors battery reading became normal and it started charging
Anybody ever had any solution to this problem? I have the same issue. Battery replaced - not taking any charge. If micro USB charger plugged in - the phone turns on. If it is already turned on plugging in the charger the screen flashes the % of the charge and nothing.
When in charging this device heats a lot, though it can charge through only a 15W charger. Even when battery is charged to 100%, it does not stop heating. I checked the temperature after 20 minutes from the time device was charged 100%( the charging cable was connected), But felt the same amount of heat even after it has been some time. Doesn't the phone come with overcharge protection?? My last device was poco f1 and it became super cold just after 10 minutes as it has been fully charged. Anyone facing the same issue or is it just me.
For now I do not have any issues related to overheating both during the charging or phone usage, however my battery drains a lot faster with Google app consuming as much as 20% in the background. If you are charging the phone overnight you can try disabling the Fast Charging mode and see if the overheating is still there. I do not have idea about over heat protection.

Do you have same issue still?
For me, after battery reaches 100% the phone eventually cooled down.

This problem does not occur anymore. I think one of the updates fixed it
