Try this if the tablet is constantly rebooting. Insert the USB cable into the PC but only partially into the table. When the screen blanks, quickly hold down both the vol up and down buttons and plug the cable the rest of the way in. That should put you in the download mode to re-flash the ROM with Odin.

I have bootlooped the A8 plenty of times and it really is just holding the buttons down at the right time as RamenGOD described. Having the device plugged into the computer definitely can help you get it into the download mode a bit easier. Just saying don't give up, it's not lost.

[Q] Any other ways to get into download mode?

Recently tried to flash from JF6 to JH3 and failed. It's now stuck at the phone ! computer screen.
Here's what I've tried so far starting with all the pull sd,sim, batt out and put battery back in:
1. Hold both vol up and down, then plug in usb.
2. Hold both vol up and down, then plug in usb, and then hold power. Let it flash on and off until I get to the 2nd blank screen, then release power.
3. Hold vol up and power, then plug in usb. Let it flash on and off until 2nd blank screen, then release power.
Holding down and power doesn't make the phone!computer flash at all.
I'm really at a loss now. No idea how to get back into download mode... I wasn't able to use the key combos to do it before; just used adb.
Any tips? Help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I've always done after turning off the phone:
1. Plug in USB
2. Hold volume up + down
3. Press and hold power until it turns off for second time then let go (although it's worked for me on the first time it goes off)
Worked every single time for me.

Doesn't seem to work for me... anything else you can think of?
Have you tied to Flash it with Odin back to stock? Always flash back to stock before flashing. Every thread starts with the same instructions, flash back to stock first. Not to kick you when you're down.
I'd flash back to stock with Odin.

He wouldn't be able to flash without getting into download mode now would he?
op: Make sure that odin is open and ready on your computer. if that doesn't work then i hate to say it but...
Looks like I've got an expensive paperweight? Luckily for me I got it yesterday...
Stupidly enough though, I probably should have returned it in the first place. It wasn't working quite right... I've never seen a phone not respond to button combos or have problems connecting to a computer via USB and I've owned my share of Samsungs. Each boot into their own recovery mode just fine via buttons... guess I won the lottery?
If anyone has some ridiculously convoluted way to get into download mode, I'd be glad to try it.
Did a bit of snooping...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765703
It seems there are a fair amount of phones with disabled button combos...
when i flashed to jh3, i found doing the adb reboot download the easiest way to get into download, even when i messed up my phone and it would boot to galaxy s screen and it would get stuck. Found plugging it in via usb and then running the adb command
Ah... I see. Well, considering I can't get it to recognize it or anything... it's pretty much fubar. I tried my sister's captivate and it boots into download mode just fine with both vol + plug in usb.. so I assume I just had a defective unit that became more defective.
Thanks for the help all, and let's just have this be a lesson to anybody who wants to know, if you follow the instructions on the odin thread and you can't get in, either you're doing something wrong or the phone is wrong...
And adb never hurt anybody.
Thanks again everybody.

I just exchanged a Captivate for shutting down by itself, got one that can't three button reboot, accidentally bricked it and couldn't recover it. Exchanged it for yet another one that also can't three button reboot. Uggh!

[Q] Stuck in AT&T Screen boot loop, can't get into either recovery or download mode

[Q] Stuck in AT&T Screen boot loop, can't get into either recovery or download mode
I went back to stock (or tried to) and after Odin was done the phone just stuck in the AT&T boot loop, download mode is not working (it was working before so I know I am doing the right combination/timing) doing endless combinations of Vol-/Vol+/Power doesn't seem to get me into recovery mode-
I put my girlfriend's captivate on Continuum over the weekend so I'm sure I'm pressing the right keys to get into download mode, but I get nothing but the battery.
I do have the Android SDK in my computer but I'm never able to get past that naggy screen, so I can't do a 'adb shell reboot recovery' is a JIG my only option?
To recap, can't get into download mode and pressing volume up / volume down and power buttonuntil the AT&T screen and then release the power button doesn't get me into recovery mode.
Need help!
I've been in the exact same situation.A jig is most probably the only option.
Many people have had this problem and find that a jig is the answer.
Sent from my cappy UC'd 900mhz and UV'd running di11is rom/ Onix kernel
first try with just holding vol buttons and then inserting USB cable...hold vol buttons till its goes into download mode or the screen changes..if not then try following steps...
1. remove the usb cable, battery, sdcard, SIM.
2. wait 10 seconds, then insert the USB cable.
3. press and hold the 3 button combo while you insert the battery
4. continue to hold until phone's screen goes black twice and release power button.
5. timing is critical, it may not work the first time. Keep going until you see the COM port is connected properly.
still no Dl mode..then buy a jig or make one yourself
Right so I'm download mode now, but every time I go back to STOCK I'm re-stuck in the same loop, seems that I can't get out of it.
I got into download mode with a JIG, but still can't see my phone from my computer, so I can't run the adb shell to get it to boot in recovery mode
I'd appreciate any help you could give me!

Restart your computer, use a different usb cable, a different usb port. if that doesn't work, unistall the drivers and reinstall, restart your comp and try again.
For anoyone that might find this thread, Odin 1 Click didn't work for me, so I flash back into stock using Odin (not the 1 click version, another one), here are some links that proved to be very helpful (I ended up Flashing to Serependity 6.4):

I had the same problem just a few weeks ago.
The problem is once you start using 2.2 you can't use ODIN 2.1 anymore.
This is the one that worked for me I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low-designgears(1)

this is actually a false statement.
i can still use odin 2.1 after flashing 2.2 roms and even stock 2.2 upgrades
Anyone thought about trying Heimdall if Odin doesn't work?
Yes, i tried using heimdall and that didn't work. I'm wondering what leopic did to fix his, if you could list the steps instead of the links that would help a lot!
stuck in att screen and battery loop
so i have tried searching for threads that match the issue i am having and some of them do and some doent so i have decided to post this. i tried flashing back to stock from a custom rom i was using. i used Odin to do this. i didn't work so i tried it again, same result. it dosent boot just sits at the captivate splash screen. i tried using a different oden tool and after that it just loops through the ATT splash screen and if i have the usb cable plugged in, it just loops the battery screen. im not even sure if it charges. i have tried everything i can find to do to get the download mode to come up and nothing, just loops. i have not tried the jig on this phone yet b/c i haven't made it to radio shack yet to pick the resistors up. is that going to be my only option?
what rom WERE you on?was it cm7 or miui?

so from the link provided
FROM A POWERED-DOWN STATE - BATTERY REMOVED
- Insert battery, then press and hold Vol+ and Vol-, then insert your USB cable..
goes into battery loop
- Press and hold Vol+/Vol-, Insert Battery, Insert USB cable
goes into battery loop
- Press and hold Vol+/Vol-, Insert USB cable, Insert Battery
goes into battery loop
- Use a 301Kohm jig between USB pins 4-5 (can be manufactured jig or homemade chain of resistors)
have not tried yet

I had this problem before
Users - I am new on this forum and I know this thread is old however I had this problem and it resolved itself. Here is how.
Background: I tried to charge my ATT Captivate using a Nokia microUSB charger that was plugged into a 120v outlet. After a few minutes of charging, the phone would no longer boot past the ATT World Phone screen. Afterwards I tried everything under sun to get a computer recognize the phone so I could reflash the ROM. Nothing worked (different computer, different USB cables, reinstalled the Samsung drivers, etc....).
Resolution of Problem: As a last ditch effort, I tried charging my phone with the same Nokia microUSB cable that appeared to cause the problem in the first placed. This time the Nokia USB cable was plugged into my computer instead of the 120v outlet. My computer had the Samsung phone drivers installed. To my amazement the phone booted up after I unplugged it from the USB cable and all is well.
I am not sure what happened but my Captivate is back with no damage. Hope this helps some poor soul who is trying desperatley to get a computer to recognize a phone that for no apparent reason will not be recognized.

Galaxy Ace Hardbricked?

The other day i installed the SGS3 V4 rom on my s5830 (only realised after that it was made for s5830i -.-) and now i just have a permanent black screen, no backlight or anything, nothing appears when i plug the charger in and it wont boot into download or recovery mode the only way i can get some life out of it is if i plug the usb cable in then hold Vol up + Vol down + Home + Power as i put the battery in, then my computer shows that a device has been recognised and a yellow rectangle appears in odin but whenever i try to flash the stock rom it just hangs on '<1> setup connection...'
Ive also tried using a usb jig but it doesnt do anything unless im not using it properly.
anyone found a solution? Im now stuck with my blackberry again and i cant stand it

Bootloop

So my xperia sp (c5302) has booted into a bootloop after rooting with kingroot. I upgraded it to 4.3 and im not sure what to do because the sony companion wont recognize the phone when it is rebooting over and over again. I need help
To stop the boot looping, you can simply unplug the battery, it requires opening the phone though.
You can then boot in fastboot mode by plugging usb cable while holding volume-up key, and flash the partitions.

Indeed it does, but I wasn't sure that triggering fastboot would work when warmbooting.
I gave i a try and it works. So the way to fastboot from bootloop is now:
1 - plug usb cable
2 - Hold volume up + reset button until leds turn blue
(if phone is in a boot loop, it might actually work by just pushing volume up during the boot)

Question Tried Factory Reset from Standard Recovery Screen

Holding Power & Volume Down beginning screen says Bootloader Unlocked Cannot Be trusted and then goes to Android Recovery. Tried to Factory Data reset several times, but keeps coming back to Bootloader Unlocked. I can not even tell if I am over charging or if it is charged at all. Can I get Samsung files from Samsung site to download? Which ones do you think would be best course. I just want it to be factory data reset. HELP! My recovery screen pics are attached.

Why are you holding vol down? Holding vol down and power is the method used to boot to recovery. And once the bootloader is unlocked you will always get the nag screen saying it is unsafe. Ignore it. What happens if you just push the power button WITHOUT pushing vol down?

Then you need to boot to download mode, not recovery. Plug the USB cable into a PC and not the tablet. Turn the tablet off. Then, while holding both vol down and vol up, plug the cable into the tablet. You can download the latest firmware using frija.exe. Flash the firmware using Odin on the PC.

I was able to successfully download the firmware and flashed it with odin. The only problem now is odin indicates PASS! in green on PC and seems to be finished, but the odin screen on PC has not closed. The tablet downloading screen remains open with the progress bar all the way at the end. Should I hit exit or reset on odin on PC or alternatively select AutoStart in options?

I don't know. The Odin screen remaining open is normal. But, unless you unchecked the auto-reboot in Odin options, the tablet should have rebooted when it finished flashing. If it doesn't, I guess the only thing you can do is manually reboot the tablet by holding vol down and power for about 7 seconds.

I did uncheck the auto-reboot which the directions I had said to do so. So I just let it sit there for about 6-7 hours plugged into PC. I figured then there was no way it wasn't done installing so i unplugged from PC. After like 5 minutes or so the tablet came on with the beginning screen for setting up tablet. Now I just have to figure how much crap I really need on it. I wish I could get rid of Samsung Flow so I could use the tablet for Fan Duel. Thanks for your help. Have a good weekend.
