How To Guide Work around for third party launchers (that still needs work). - Lenovo Legion Y700

Hi all,
I've been tinkering around trying to find a solution to the third party launcher issues on stock chinese rom with locked bootloarder and stumbled over a simple fix to the recent apps list bugs. The recent apps functionality is served by the stock launcher, and you can disable the stock launcher completely through ADB.
The command for this is:
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.zui.launcher
And the code to re-enable this is:
Code:
adb shell pm enable com.zui.launcher
You'll want to have a third party launcher already installed and set as home before doing this (I prefer the latest Lawnchair Launcher build from their GitHub repository, not the Play Store), but you can still re-enable the stock launcher in ADB or go into settings through the notifications menu to get to things if you get stuck.
Now, the caveat.
This completely removes the recent apps functionality on the tablet, making navigation and app management more challenging. I've been looking for a third party solution to remedy this but unfortunately I've come up somewhat short. There is one app that, with a bit of configuring will show you your recent apps with a swipe gesture, called Swiftly Switch. The pro version allows you to do this from the bottom of the tablet where you normally would with gesture input. Link here: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=swiftly Switch
I'm putting a call out to other y700 owners to let me know if you find a better solution and if this helps.

This app might also be viable, but I haven't tested it yet: Everywhere Launcher - Sidebar https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appindustry.everywherelauncher

Interesting stuff! This is one of the most annoying parts of the stock ROM IMO. Too bad it screws with the recent apps list, I dunno if I like any of those alternatives... I think I'll look around for any other alternatives.

Applock Feature?

I have one simple question.
Is this app lock feature tied to asus launcher or system???
What happens if i use third party launcher?? Do i loose applock feature if i use third party auncher and reset asus launcher and disable it??
Thinking of purchasing nova launcher. so asking.
Help will be appreciated.
Lil Workaround required
Yes, there is an app lock feature. If you are using a third party launcher it seems the feature can't be accessed directly BUT it can still be used. If you quickly switch to your Asus launcher in settings you then long press on the home screen, hit "preferences" in the bottom corner then "AppLock" you can then lock apps. Once that is done simply go back to your desired launcher and the selected apps will require a password/finger print to access.
Kinda silly it can't be accessed via the 3rd party launcher but considering how little I need to go in and lock new apps, its not a terrible work around. Nova launcher is worth it.

Android 10 Gesture Navigation on ROG Phone 2

Currently, Android 10 Gesture Navigation is incompatible with 3rd party launchers. I read that it checks to see if the launcher is your default system launcher before allowing Gesture Navigation. Would the following process be an effective workaround and make Gesture Navigation compatible with a launcher of my choosing?
- Root phone
- Install 3rd party launcher
- Set 3rd party launcher as system app and change permissions accordingly
- Remove stock launcher and it's backup APKs
- Restart device
I have some experience with rooting, but not much, and I've bricked phones before. I've also had highly successful attempts at rooting and tweaking the system. This is an expensive phone, so I would like to get a second opinion before I attempt this.

Use Navigation Gesture(XDA) to disable default Nav bar. Then install Fluid Navigation Gesture app. It's has similar navigation to Android Pie and moreover you can add custom toggles. No root required. Just ADB, for both the apps to work. I am on Android 10 with Nova Launcher and they both work great! Both apps are available on play store. Hope this helps.
I have mine fully working from day 1 with Quickswitch + Lawnchair (prealpha releases, TG channel). Amazing experience
Does it work even after reboot ?

Navigation Gesture works(hiding the nav bar). Fluid navigation gesture doesn't. So you need to give the ADB commands again
Edit: Good news! You don't have to give ADB permissions in either. Just cross checked. For Fluid Nav Gesture you just have to disable and enable accessibility services!

After restarting the phone, yes I agree. You can solve it by disabling and enabling accessibility services. Cleaning it from recent apps shouldn't. It is not happening for me. Did you give adb writing permission?
Do you have "detect battery draining app" and stop if running in background on?
The CN rom has no navigation bar option

Question [solved]12.0.2.0 Global, no full screen navigation gesture

Hello,
I'm on 12.0.2.0 Global firmware with my Mi11. I have one big problem, one i active full screen navigation gesture, i can confirm geste with the Xiaomi test but once it has finished no way to have gesture navigation and if i reboot phone it put back the navigation bar. Someone has the same problem than me? Is there a setting somewhere to fix that or is it definitively a bad bug. I can't flash because of BL locked and phone don't have to make an update, for it I am updated with the last rom.
Thank you for your answers.
Do you use a third party launcher? Fullscreen gesture don't work with third party launcher on MIUI Android 11. Reported the issue to Xiaomi, they said it's Android fault, but on my OnePlus 8T fullscreen gesture work well even with launcher...
Wow. It was that, crazy thing. Thank you for the trick. Bad move from Xiaomi, even with custom A11 on any device (like my Mix 3) no problem with full screen gesture and 3rd party launcher.
About third party launcher , this is the email I got from Nova regarding gestures
"Hello,
Thank you for contacting Nova Launcher support. Below is a lot of information that we encourage you to read completely as it will answer your questions or other questions you might have related to the full system gestures in Android 10, Android 11 and going forward.
PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL IN FULL!
Home/Default Launcher Constantly Being Reset
If you are experiencing issues with Nova not staying as the default launcher on Android 10 or Android 11, these first steps are for you specifically.
If you are having issues with Nova staying as your default launcher, try this: Reboot your device. Or you can try Phone Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Home App -> Nova Launcher. You might need to do this several times and reboot several times for this to fix the issue.
This is a very well known issue on Samsung and other devices, but specifically with new updates directly from Samsung starting as early as December 1st, 2020.
If this doesn't fix your issue, then you need to contact Samsung directly as the issue is on their end, with their update and has nothing to do with Nova or any other launcher, as this issue will happen in all 3rd party launchers.
The issue above isn't just for Samsung users, though the issue happens on every Samsung device that's gotten an update since December 1st, 2020.
Everything mentioned below is still present with the release of Android 11 on September 8th, 2020. Google has made it very clear that they have no plans to completely fix gesture-related issues any time in the near or even distant future.
Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android (stated March 2019).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android 10 and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google have now made it clear that they have no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include, but not limited to:
Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
Animations not being as fluid as expected
Screen blinks
Home screen icons blink
Home screen refreshes
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as we have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.
Samsung Users
Samsung has allowed full system gestures to be used within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can now enable and use gestures, but there are still several issues regarding animations and the like.
As stated, there is nothing that Nova (or indeed any other 3rd party launcher) can do about this and it is ultimately up to Google and OEMs to fix navigation gestures.
Google's statement and Nova's statement

Nova: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
Enabling Gestures
As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers on Pixel devices. However, the caveat of this is that you are likely to experience the issues mentioned above. To reiterate, this is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If and when you experience issues with gestures on 3rd party launchers, we highly recommend you contact Google and not Nova Support because, as we have said, there is absolutely nothing we can do to fix Google's problems.
Devices From Other Manufacturers
As some members in this Discord have noticed, some devices from certain manufacturers provide a reasonably usable experience with gestures. In particular, OnePlus devices on Oxygen OS 10 and above behave reasonably well with gestures.
This is because OnePlus (and other manufacturers) are using their own implementation of gestures rather than Google's which means that you might not get all of the issues referenced above. However, just like before, we (Nova) have no control over these and any issues you do experience should be brought up with the manufacturer and not us.
Action Launcher's False Claims
Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019 which is completely misleading. When stating that they support system gestures, They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and other features within the app not interfering with Android's own system gestures.
As stated before, full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and are not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way. When using gestures with Action Launcher, you'll quickly notice that the experience has just as many issues as it does with Nova or any other 3rd party launcher, reiterating the point that it is not something that any third party launcher can change or improve."
Well it is combined default of Google and Xiaomi. Google let's Xiaomi to fix if they want but Xiaomi (and Nova, for what I read) blames Google to no doing it. I don't understand, if it is Google default, why on custom A11 rom i have no problems with gesture navigation with Nova.
Hum... This launcher is a sh*t. Icons play hide game...
Problem solved for me with Fluid NG, i am out of Mi Launcher Clown Edition and go back to Nova with gestures.

I'm sorry, if I may know did you solve it by installing FNG and..? Rooting?
I installed FNG and gestures are working, but I'm stuck with the navbar. If I enable full screen gestures via Settings, I lose them and get back the ugly navbar as soon as I lock the screen or reboot.
I gave FNG all permissions + ADB WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission, but still despite the gestures working there is no way of getting rid of the navbar..
Or are you stuck in the same situation too? (Nova with full screen gestures but navbar still visible)?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, sadly this doesn't work for me. As I mentioned, if I activate this on the xiaomi settings the result is that it resets upon any screenlock or device restart, giving back the navigation bar.

Solution:
You need root+magisk
install magiskhide props config
then using emulator (Termux etc.)
"su" then
"props" then
press "5" then
press "n" for new custom prop
add this line below to prop
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys
then set value "1"
then restart. that's it. no more navbar. (also fullscreen)
and I recommend you "Edge Gestures" for fullscreen gestures using Nova launcher or others.

Question Do gestures work with 3rd party launchers on miui?

About 4ish months ago, when I last used MIUI, there was a bug preventing gesture based navigation on third party launchers (nova, etc)
Can anyone confirm if that has been fixed by now?

On MIUI, Gestures do not work with nova or any third party launcher.
but on AOSP custom roms works normally.
I very much doubt this is a bug. you are supposed to use the system launcher and consume the ads

Well that is true, its just sad & pathetic, is there any way to circumvent this issue?
My guessing is, that Xiaomi disabled the android system gestures and has their own gestures implemented into the stock launcher. So removing the launcher, removes the gesture input.
Why I think that? Because #1, Xiaomi used to implement gesture navigation in miui even before Google implemented them in android. #2 the settings for gestures in miui 12 are inside the launcher menu.
I think that some kind of magisk module, which would enable/install the stock android gestures, would be possible.

This is one way to do it, but it gets annoying after a while as sometimes (i.e. pressing back rather than home, recent apps, a few other ways) will go back to the default launcher rather than the 3rd party launcher; also you are running two launchers all the time which isn't the best.
A better way is: set third party launcher + FNG, then use ADB to hide the navigation bar.

CUSTOM LAUNCHER GESTURES

Question Disable navigation buttons miui global 12.5.8

With the new update, miui global 12.5.8, the system no longer allows gestures AND third party launchers and forces default launcher to the system launcher if gesture navigation is selected. 3rd party launchers work with button navigation, and FGN. However, with 3rd party and FNG the navigation buttons persist. Is there anyway around this (i.e. 3rd party launcher with gesture navigation without navigation buttons persisting).
I have tried disabling the miui system launcher through adb, but it doesn't seem to work, launcher is still running.
Selecting the default launcher as system launcher, selecting gesture navigation and then launching 3rd party launcher and FNG gets the desired outcome, however the system launcher is still running/ selected as default (gesture for home button swaps back to system launcher - can remap home gesture to open 3rd party launcher as a work around for the home button).
Thanks,
Found a solution, but doesn't stick with power cycle:
adb shell settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1

Hey thanks mate, I try this and it looks successful, but can not keep when we reboot, any solutions for that bro, I also report issue to Xiaomi / Nova as well, is this Android 11's issue ?
Dears
I'm experiencing the same issue as OakaO with MIUI 12.5.8: cannot even set gestures if a 3-party launcher is being in use.
I've read this interesting thread https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/third-party-launcher-gestures.62948/ and tried the two solutions described there.
They works but have some side effects.
First solution:
The usage of the LADB app with the command settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1 works but has the side effect that you lose any theme status bar you may have configured: the status bar gets back to the one of the stock theme.
In addition it seems to not be resilient to reboot so after any reboot you have to enable ADB stuff and so on (for security reason, I prefer to not have them always enabled)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution)
Second solution:
the usage of the adb command adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural works too but (as stated in the thread) it has the side effect that you still see the gesture bar (which reduces also the screen size) but you totally lose the bottom gestures (even if you use Fluid Navigation Gestures app)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution too)
At the end..... I lose the game and I'm using now my 3-party launcher with 3 navigation buttons which gives me a really ugly effect especially because I use also klwp theme and the 3 buttons are really bad.
After that I wrote on MI community (here the thread https://c.mi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3943484&page=1&extra=#pid20869921 ).
I'm still waiting for a further feedback but I'm worried that this behaviour is not a bug but a clear choice or strategy from Xiaomi.
Let's see what will happen.
bye
I don't want the nav bar but the software buttons.. the problem is that they are white and autohide does not work in most apps.
any solution?
