english to german image - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

hey folks,
a friend of mine tried to flash a german mda3 image on to his qtec9090 and didnt get it to work.
he pulled the image from his mda3 to the sd with the bootloader and when he now tries to flash that sd on the qtec9090 nothing happens. it just stops in the bootloader screen.
the image file I'm talking about here is uploaded to the xda developer ftp at /BlueAngel/MDAIII/NTRW_ImageMDA3.rar
we tried opening the file with er2003edit but had no luck. we always got wrong password. are there new passwords for the mda3 roms? how could I find that out?
are the images pulled to a sd card the same as the ones that come with updates?
anyone got an an idea what we are doing wrong here?
thanks in advance,
greetings

MDA 3 English ROM Upgrade

I just got a MDA 3 T-Mobile which is obviously in German. Someone sent me to english ROM, but it is a .nb1 file, and I am not exactly how to upgrade the device. Should I use XDATools? I am not sure what loader to use, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
NB1 file
Can you post the file?
Thanks
If someone can help me upgrade mine...
I get an error when trying to load the english ROM for the MDA 3, it says that the device is not connected, I have been able to copy the german ROM, off the device, but can't seem to load one in, or copy it to the SD Card, anyone have any ideas?
why don't you share with us on what you have and maybe someone here would be able to do something and bring the project to completion. so why don't you share your file with us?
Sure, do I simply upload the file here? Or i have to host it myself?
T-Mobile MDA III German ROM.
Here it is, someone please help me find a way to upgrade the ROM on the device, I think the problem is finding the correct bootloader...Thanks
Uploaded file using FTP, Filename is NKT.nb1 in the main directory
Before running the upgrade are you disbaling usb in activesync and then entering bootloader mode on your phone and cradling it?
No, I havn't tried that, ActiveSync was running, with USB connected, I am not sure how to go into bootloader mode, I tried holding power button and soft reset, that didn't do it though.
I also tried holding down the power button, center button on the directional navigation pad, and reset button with stylus and that just clears the data.
Managed to get into the bootloader, problem is now that i unchecked USB connection in ActiveSync, XDATools says please connect your XDA, it cant find it now, is this the correct way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated
you may try to refpash XDA3 through the SD card. I've seen several posts on doing this for XDA2, but cannot find. Probably the process should be the same except for reflashing GSM ROM.
You'll also need an english extended rom.

Have you successfully dumped existing ROM to SD-card with bootloader? Like in this post: http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=62&PN=1
You need to dump only WinCE ROM. Then reflash this ROM back.
If you'd succeed - then upload your SD card contents somewhere and I'll try to integrate english rom into it.
And have you tried to run the XDA2 upgrade tool? What does it say?
Hi,
i did everything you said and it works fine but i am unable to see the datas from my SD Card now. The MDA3 or my Cardreader want to format the card. Otherwise it wont let me take a look at it.
PS: i can show you the ext. ROM, maybe that helps?`
Read this maybe it will help you to do it, http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=93 it used to recover the dead XDA II

T-Mobile Vario Unlocked and using Orange! Now to flash ROM?

Hi,
Thanks to the very clever people over at www.imei-check.co.uk I now have an unlocked T-Mobile Vario.
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php
I now wish to know if I can flash my unlocked Wizard with an Imate K-Jam2 flash?
I know there is another post on flashing the the Qtek 9100 with the K-Jam but I dont know if the T-Mobile Vario will pose any different issues or problems.
What I want to know is :-
1) Can it be done, can I flash my T-Mobile Vario with a K-Jam2 ROM?
2) How do I make a backup of my T-Mobile ROM before taking the plunge?
I am a Sony Ericsson P900 convert so please be gentle with me on your responses. I'm no expert but have got this far (Unlocked) by reading these and other forums.
If any of you can help out I would be most gratefull.
Cheers
Lee
I have (had) a Vario from T-Mobile Netherlands. I unlocked like you and ran the ROM upgrade utility for Qtek 9100, available for download on :-
http://www.beyondthetech.com/blogs/kjam/
It works fine. My Dutch phone now talks to me in English.... phew!
@belgilux
What are the advanges of the qtek rom over the vario ??
Niets dat ik kan bespeuren. Enkel is ding dat zijn in WWE - wereld Wijde Engels - dit is good voor mij aangezien mijn Nederlands niet zo goed is. ..
ok thanks ,
mijn nederlands is goed , dus hou hem liever in nederlands

Hey, guys, I have the same problem - I want to change the OS from a german to en english one. My device is the XDA Mini S from O2 Germany. Do I *really* need to pay for unlocking first or I can just flash it?
P.S. How did you back up the ROM before the flashing?
hello ingenious ,
as far as i know , you have to unlock it first otherwise you can't acces the bootloader.
buckup of your old rom can be done (only after unlocking).
you need the program romupdate.exe
disable activesync on usb connection
turn off phone
connect usb cable while pressing camera button
start romupdate
chooice usb connection
enter 'r2sd all' this coppies your phone rom to your sd card (sd card will be erased !!!!!)
next step is to dump the sd card to file to store.
you need ntrw.exe and sd card reader
in a dos box in a dir with ntrw enter 'ntrw read dump.nb1 drive_letter_of_reader:'
that will dump you entire sd card to file.
to restore , but it back with ntrw write .......
reset phone while holding voice an camera button and chooise restore from sd card.
good luck , arnold
p.s. i'm wrinting this out of my memory so forgive me if i have something wrong.
Hey, thanks very much
Just a thing bothers me still... If I unlock the phone (i.e. replace the boot loader) won't I just lose my warranty from O2?
mhh that doesn't worry me to much,
officiali it will only void your warrnaty if they can proof that that is the problem.
if not they can not hold it against you (in holland that is) , but you may have to 'fight' for your warranty.

but he boot NOT from the sd card ... where is the trick ?

I have successfully replaced the ROM on my MDA Vario with a K-Jam ROM and now I want to go back to the original ROM. Following the instructions by arnoldl earlier in this thread I created a backup dump.nb1 file and used ntrw_189.exe in a CMD window to dump this to a file. This took bloomin' ages since I have a 1GB card - very tiresome!
Anyway, I have now reversed that process to copy the dump file back to the mini-SD card but when I hard reset my Vario I do not get a prompt to restore from the SD card. I only have options to restore to original settings or cancel.
I have allowed a hard reset to complete and the mini-SD card does not even register in the Vario. Removing and reinserting does nothing. I've tried a hard reset twice and still no joy.
Assuming I have successfully created a working ROM image on my mini-SD card are there any other tips or options for restoring it to the Vario ROM?
anyone knows the keys to press for restore an image from sd card ?
I have tried all combinatiosn of keys, but nothing are working
regards
sorry , it is hold camera and voice comm button while resetting.
previes state must be on!!
grtx arnold
Thanks for that. I just realised it says hold camera and voice comm rather than comms and voice comm, like you would normally do for a hard reset.
I've tried a boot with the correct buttons and could see nothing at all on the screen. I now realise there is something but without a backlight it is nigh on impossible to see. Anyway, I spotted that too late and started button mashing to try to get the thing to spring into life. It is now staring at me with a big clear white (lit) screen that dims briefly periodically. I now have no idea what is going on and whether this is the correct behaviour or not.
How long should the reflash take? Will having a 1GB card mean it takes 8 times as long as a 128MB card as it has to read the whole thing? How do I know if this is working OK?There are no progress bars or anything - just a plain white screen.
i did say comm and voice , but i just changed that
reflash was prety fast when i did it , within a minute i thought (256mb)
Oh dear :-( Mine's been blinking at me for 15 minutes now.
I just restarted the process and I managed to see a "Format BinFS Success" message and a progress bar at the bottom which I think said "Upload OS" or something like that - too difficult to read properly in today's miserable grey daylight. But I'm now staring at the plain white screen once more.
Maybe my ROM image is fried. Any ideas how to get hold of a clean T-Mobile UK MDA Vario ROM file?
EDIT : Further info......
Bored of the blank white screen I pressed the reset button on its own. The device reset and this time with the benefit of the backlight being on I could see the Format BinFS success message, a couple of checksum checks and something about downloading ROM and extended ROM. This all took only a minute or two, which seems positive. But then I saw a message about formatting FAT (or FAT32?) and while that was being displayed the screen faded/disolved to plain white and has resumed its periodic dimming.
Unfortunately I now have HTC Innovation and imate branding all over the thing so I can't just pop it back to T-Mobile to fix it. I wish they had a full ROM upgrade/replace image in a .exe, like qtek and imate.
hello,
what means "previes state must be on!! "
i have an 512 mb card and no chance to boot the sd. Has anyone
try the qtek german bin on the xda ftp server here ? i write this
image via ntrw on my 512 mb card, press the camera and voice button and also reset, but the sd card want recognize ...
help! I want this german qtek rom on my wizard.

i only got in this mode when resetting with the buttons pressed when phone was on.
when i first shut it down and then reset it didn't work.

Having left the white screen for a couple of hours there is no sign of anything useful happening. I reset the device and now I am dumped directly to the bootloader screen - there seems to be no software on the device now.
So it appears I can only get this thing up and running again with the k-jam ROM (or presumably Qtek) by running the .exe ROM upgrade file. But for me my option to go back to native Vario software seems to have vanished forever. Maybe I'm just really unlucky but this might serve as a warning/caution for others who want to flash their Vario.

Can anyone supply a clean UK MDA Vario ROM please?

I've flashed my UK MDA VARIO with the i-mate k-jam ROM but decided I'd like to go back to the original ROM.
Before flashing the ROM I followed the steps posted by arnoldl to r2sd my ROM to my SD card and then used NTRW to copy the card to a file on my PC. I had to use the card for other things in the meantime and used NTRW to restore the card image ready for flashing.
But whatever I've ended up with on the card is not recognised by the boot loader and I am unable to restore my Vario back to factory spec. I don't know whereabouts in the process my image got broken but I'm hoping someone has, or can create, a clean UK Vario image that can be FTPd somewhere. I'll even host it myself if someone can come up with the goodies.
I only have a 1GB mini-SD card. I don't know if this will be aproblem for a restore from an image on a smaller (or larger) card than 1GB. Does anyone know?
I know k-jam and qtek upgrades/replaces are dead easy because of the .exe install file that takes care of everything. Is there an equivalent for the Vario ROM or can someone make one? I know I'm not the only one with this problem of an unuseable Vario ROM/card image.
Thanks,
Tim.

flashing from sd card

Hi guys,
want to flash my Wizard from SD-card, but i don't know how to rename thr nbh file. Whats name i have to use and how i have to start the rgu bootloader on the device?
thx for help
Hi, not sure you'll be able to flash a new rom from SD card, unless you have the rom on another wizard. If so you can copy rom from other wizard onto SD card and transfer onto your wizard. Make sure you backup data on SD card because as soon as you load the rom image onto the card it becomes unreadable on pc. Which rom are you trying to load? hope this is of some help

Unfortunately renaming the nk.nbf doesn’t work with the Wizard.
I discussed how you can make an SD image for backup and uploading “here in this thread”.

First THX for this link, but it's not what i'm looking for.
Some time ago i read about only to rename the ROM.nbf into a nother name (don't know the name, i'm looking for), copy this to the SD-Card and start manually the RUU.
Than after the RUU is started you have to press the green phone button and the wizard will be flashed from SD-Card.
Know I'm looking for the name i need for the .nbf file...
As far as I know what you’re asking for can’t be done, if you find a way please do post it.
The link I posted above was the only way I knew of.
double post
Ok, I'll do.
If i don't find out the name i try your way ,
or i install MS Win Xp again...
or wait till i get my diamond and put the wizard back in the rack.

This link has all of the RUU/ROMs for the IncS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
Sounds like you need to use the 3.08.405.3 RUU which is the latest WWE ROM. At this stage I don't think just he OTA file will help you.
From what the phone is showing it keeps searching for the ota os file which from my understanding should sort the problem out but once I got a way to transfer the file onto the sd card should be ok but I got to wait and see.
Thanks dude for the link. I did go from a custom rom to a stock rom and then messed it up lol...
