AT&T MediaFLO - for us? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008/04/17/att-mobile-tv-mediaflo-details-price-list-and-launch-date/
Apparently this new service is coming out in two weeks or so for the LG Vu and Samsung Access. Not sure what OSes they use, but what chance do you think we have of seeing it on the Tilt? I know there's the driver issues, plus I'm not even sure the Tilt has the hardware... apparently this is some separate network...?
Someone smarter than me should look into this.
PS - Just curious, as I can't see myself paying more for TV - Comcast already drains me...

from my recollection that LG VU, from when I saw it at the CES show in Las Vegas earlier this year, uses Windows Mobile.

when i bought my tilt from at&t it already had something similar to it, i never used it cause i can't stand the 13" tv at my house so watching on a phone seemed pointless. so i deleted the program and flashed a new ROM and now i have games rather than tv. if someone wanted to give me satellite or cable on my phone and i could watch my shows while i'm at work, then it would be a great program. 9 channels for $30 a month is as bad as cable, overpriced and no features

Hm... just tried MobiTV for the first time. Video is very stop and go, but it's kinda neat - and I can listen, if nothing else. It's only $10/month.
But since we don't want to pay for more TV access, I think Slingbox or a similar technology is our only hope.
That, and HTC drivers...

this thread was guaranteed to fail seeing as your promoting the iPhone, when we have so many sleepless nights trying to prove they're not as good as Pocket PCs.
but seeing as i kno i'm talkin to a Mac user, i wanna ask a couple of qus lol. i'm getting one as a leaving school present and can u flash roms on them? are they tweakable? what limitations do they have with hardware you can put in...ie hard drives, flash drives, feature phones etc.
thanks for your time
basically with the iphone you can do sweet FA. not even 3rd party apps can be used, only what comes with the phone. this + low screen resolution + poor battery + No 3G means i would NEVER consider get one.

lol - i those 'hello, I'm a mac, and I'm a pc...' ads we have (in the uk at least) i hate that everything they say is backwards, and mac claim to be perfect for everyone 'out of the box'. what i love about pcs and ppcs is being able to make them work how i want
I can't believe the excuse for making it a closed system. "Third party apps will crash phone networks", I have tried to do things I shouldn't on networks and they don't crash so easy!
No 3g, why not throw in a nickel cadmium battery and make it really prehistoric?
Pocket PC has an image problem, regular people think it crashes. From my extensive use, it is very stable and any bugs normally get fixed because it is so open. IPone will be a flash in the pan. This is no ipod, there is real competition in the mobile computing market and it will not be so easy to dominate.
well, i for one am happy thats a closed system, no f*king arround so it wont get messed up. aslong it simply works its fine for me. and the thing itself is more appealing to me then the pda's, stupid windows has flaws all over the place.

Hhaha.. it is like saying, "I'm happy that I do not have admins right to my PC, because I dont want to mess it", or "I'm happy that my car bonnet is locked so that I won't mess up the car". If you think you need to pay $$$$ to child-proof yourself from your own phone, go ahead. If you are on a budget, get yourself a Motorola MOTOFONE F3, it is close system.
ps: PPC phone works fine, it causes problems when people mess it up.
Ahhhhhhhhh, here people go again - Mac this, Windows that- it like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Ford Fiesta.
AFAIK most UK networks (at the moment) will not have the iPhone due to the price apple want for them £400+, lets see what happens at the time of Euro launch in late December of even early next year.
I certainly will not be purchasing one from the first edition even being a mac fan. My PPC works just fine with my Mac and my PC.
Its not about windows v mac. Its about why people can't admit that the iphone is crippled with poor features from day one. My Dopod D810 can perform every function available in the entire spectrum of mobile computing and in a fast reliable way over a 800kbs 3g hsdpa connection. Simultaneously.
I do about 250 mb of surfing a month on the phone and another 250 mb of surfing using my phone as a modem for my tablet. I don't think an iphone would be able to transfer 500 mb in a month even if I was willing to put up with the slow speed of non 3g networks.
I challenge any one to find a feature that the d810 can't perform. It is easy to find features lacking in the iphone because it has almost none. Apple are trying to sell a new software platform, and its the software that apple-ites are going to be paying $450usd on subsidy or $950USd outright for.
The iphone would have been a state of the art phone - 5 years ago.

It has less
But of course, Mac users get the best of both worlds. Currently I'm using an iMac 24" for scanning, and my Ameo is hooked up to ActiveSync under XP Pro SP2; I can see the ActiveSync window, explore the device, etc, whilst I am using Mac apps, seamlessly.
Parallels in Coherence mode means I don't need to switch screens, let alone put up with a smaller window, or reboot.
IMO Mac OS X is the BEST desktop OS, and part of the stability is due to the relatively limited range of hardware that Apple has to support - they know exactly what computer it will run on, and make sure it is stable. All this "building your own PC" malarky is fine, and made a lot of sense when Apple machines were lagging seriously in the hardware stakes (1998, and I'd argue just prior to the release of Intel Macs, especially the lower end stuff like the Mac Mini) and couldn't really use the Pre-Windows '95 argument that for a newbie, the system was easier to use.
However, I also rather like Windows Mobile. The lack of integration/support drives me mad; Missing Sync only goes so far (it can't even sync the Nickname field, FFS - and that's supported in WM5 AND Apple Address Book as a default, not custom, tag). I've always found it necessary to keep a PC around for a few small tasks:
ActiveSync, and applications which need a PC to run the installer.
Running tools that do things like creating a floppy from an image for an old computer (like STs, QLs, that sort of thing)
I theoretically still can't write floppies, but that needs an older PC anyway; most of the newer ones have hardware that is utterly useless for this purpose.
Other than that, Mac does it all, and if you go by "what's in the box" for a Mac system, you get much better software - like GarageBand, iMovie HD, etc. Basically for a Mac to be useful for me, all I need to do is add Adobe Creative Suite and I'm sorted. And of course, I don't need to muck about making the colour calibration work
As developers for WM, I'm sure the Mac is utterly useless to you anyway. Though many "developers" rather like the environment and tools Apple give you with every Mac system

Where are you getting those prices? Apple has stated repeatedly that the iPhone has a retail price. No subsidies. The retail price is $499 or something along those lines.
Personally, I will get an iPhone if it works well as a phone. As a PDA, it lacks a keyboard and 3G connectivity. My Ameo is better.
I Run OSX and Server 2003 on my PC so by no means am I a die-hard windows fan, but neither am i for Mac, they both have their perks and flaws. I do think the Iphone will be crap though xD

I agree, for some reason it does not excite me. maybe with the next update it would be better. No question though I would buy one later in a year or two after I upgraded my MBP to the new magnetized (not one of those hook models) and an easily upgradeable hard drives and a better battery design. Maybe a brighter 2nd or 3rd gen led display with quad core intel processor with a huge SSD drives
i heard it on the last edition of mac break weekly. Download the podcast at twit.tv
It's a rumour.
Apple has, repeatedly, said two things about iPhone:
It will be $499 and $599
It does NOT adhere to the standard subsidy model. It's not an overpriced $500 N73 with massive discounting to the operator/kickbacks from the operator.
Therefore, AT&Ts contract terms will more reflect the demand for the iPhone.
It will probably not be available without a contract. Cingular/AT&T will be banking on this device to gain them subscribers through sheer demand. The European model may well be different, but since the current suggestions from firms like iSuppli is that the BOM for the iPhone runs to a tad under $240, the 50% margin already applying and Apple's established market position means that the most likely outcome in the UK will not be a tie in to a single operator, but rather, the operators and resellers (like Carphone Warehouse) will compete on subsidising their contracts in much the same way as they currently do - for example, if you want a rubbish phone from one of the many cuthroat resellers getting £200-500 kickbacks for each contract they provide, they will give you a PS3, or a Nintendo Wii, or an iPod... you get the idea.
The iPhone UK price will most likely be around £329-£449 given our horrific taxation (and the fact that our prices INCLUDE tax at 17.5%), looking at the difference in iPods costs US/UK, and the UK market iPhone will probably be offered unlocked by default as a premium product, with the networks/resellers clamouring to offer it on their tariffs. If they they apply the same marketing model, then the iPhone would cost most users around £99-199, but it depends on what the operators reckon they can get away with.
Bear in mind that the Ameo costs £640 off contract. The Advantage is about £700. When you get it ON contract, it costs £119-400ish depending on the deal you get thanks to the network subsidy - and the stores often have a bit they can use to further reduce the price; they appear to be getting cheaper as you would expect. T-Mobile is doing well; as a result of my getting an Ameo at least four of my small network of friends have either bought or intend to buy one, partially because T-Mobile's data plans are insanely good compared to other UK networks.
Suggesting that the 8MB, non-3G iPhone is going to cost nearly as much as the Advantage off contract is insane, and probably what is known as FUD. Apple are far from stupid about the consumer market, as the success of the iPod, the growing market share of the MacBook/Pro and iMac, and utter dominance of the online music market shows.
You sure put a lot of thought into this. I think it will be sold outright at apple shops for $950. Prove me wrong in a few weeks.

Sure. $50 says that the iPhone will not be sold for $950 in Apple shops, or indeed, anywhere officially for that sort of money. eBay idiocy does not apply; stories of "an iPhone sold for $1500 on eBay" are not Apple's decision making or pricing.
Look at the iMac. Look at the MacBook.
How much is the MacBook? It's $1099. With dual-core CPUs, WiFi, Bluetooth, HD, 1GB RAM, 13.3" screen, DVD/CDRW drive.
An iMac? $999. For a 17", dual-core, etc...
An 80GB iPod is only $349.
So. If you REALLY believe that the iPhone will ever be sold, retail, for $950, then I'll be happy to take your money. However, I will have to decline if you ever tell me you have any plans for business, because you're clearly not thinking in terms of sound business models for Apple - and I'm thinking that the company with several billion dollars in the bank, no operating debt, stock at a record high, and increasing marketshare, is going to make the right choices - rather than a third-hand rumour from someone silly enough to believe it
And yes, if the iPhone DOES go on sale in the Apple store for $950, I'll give YOU your $50, and despair at the stupidity of Apple's marketing department after nearly six years of them actually getting it (spectaculalrly) right for once
Oh, and just to be absolutely sure, these are US$, in the US market we're talking. No popping up in 2009 saying "Hey, it's HK$950! in Asia!" *grin*.

I don't think the iPhone will be crap, I just don't think it will be compelling to anyone aufait with HTC's products. For the N95 crowd, I'm sure it will be very exciting indeed, and with good reason, but WE know that these things can be done better.
Internet in my pocket? Pah! I was doing that with my Clié UX50 in 2004 "Blogging" on the road in Canada with the built in camera. And that was "backwards" tech, IMO, there were better solutions out there. The Ameo has proper internet browsing/full net experience in a mobile phone, and frankly, in terms of that useage it's hardly moved the game on from the Universal.
And just to balance out the Mac vs. PC thing a tad more, I'm getting a new computer in the office soon at least for a little while. Apple don't make anything like it.
Dell XPS M2010. It'll be absolutely ideal for running devices like the Hasselblad H31D "on the road" at a professional level, doing presentations, and of course, entertainment (hello, my very own 20" LCD in hotel rooms!).
Windows is a secondary concern, the hardware design is extremely compelling.

Still within my 30 Days....What should I do?

Should I return the TILT???
I was depending on this being an mp3 player/video player/phone/fun/office device. ALL IN ONE being key!!
This device has dissapointed me on the multimedia end for obvious reasons as I can't even drag and drop SD DIVX Shows!!
Is there a device that can do all this that I should get instead since I'm in my 30 days???? What would you do?
Thanks for any advice....

I am also in the same boat. I was expecting more from it when it came to playing movies and just overall performance. Don't know if I should return it to newegg and void the att contract. Or if it would be better to keep the contract, sell the phone on ebay, and use that money to buy a different phone.
return them
I would return them, and buy Iphones.
Iphones have by far the best web browsing available short of having a pc, which is what I was hoping for out of my tilt. Now that i know my web browsing issues are because htc didnt provide drivers, i feel like im missing a huge part of what this phone should have been and it is very disappointing.
Take It Back
return it...
RETURN IT
why? well the more HTC get returned etc the quicker they will pull their finger out and correct things and not allow such stupid mistakes
Just make damn sure that when you return it; you tell them WHY.
Hmm... The new 8gb Nokia N95 has just come out... Looks rather nice too...
All of you whom own a Tilt / Tytn II, T-mobile or other clone distributed by carriers should return this piece of ****ty hardware when not satisfied with the video performance.
Indeed, AT&T certainly would not have counted on such a return (and loss ) and will raise this towards HTC as loss of business.
Just return the ****ty thing and buy something that does what it's supposed to do.
And, for your own good, never buy anything coming from HTC. They're crooks, hypocrites and arrogant bastards who think that their customers are of a low enough IQ to be mocked in their face and still want to feed HTC money (this is exactly what comes out from their official response to the driver issue).

Yup. I bought my tilt last week so I still have two weeks to decide. I would return it today if i could figure out a replacement that does everything the Tilt does but better. I would personally rather have the Tilt than an Iphone even with the problems, and that nokia isn't doing it for me.
If you don't mind losing the internal GPS and the extra ram you could downgrade to the 8525 (Hermes). Nice thing is that there price has dropped considerably since the Tilt came out. For awhile there AT&T was selling them for $99...so you could probably find another site out there somewhere that would give it to you even better than this.
I'll trade someone my 8525 for their Kaiser
ha, I can't believe what im reading here! are u guys really that bitter. I honestly feel that even when (if) htc releases the fix, MOST of us will not notice a big difference in our daily use. I compare it to a bluetooth keyboard I purchased. before I bought it, I was going crazy, thinking I needed one, etc. once I got it, I don't think I've ever used it.
don't get me wrong, I would love the drivers, but other than that I love my phone. great internet, great gps, full keyboard, etc. there is honestly no other phone id rather have.
My Warranty ends tomorrow. I think im just going to keep the damn thing. Sure the video converting sucks. but, I got the Camera to work (thanks to Navadi), and I havnt watched a movie on my mobile in awhile. At least the reception is flawless. I have better reception than most of my friends and family. with the same provider, AT&T.
In my house NO ONE gets reception. and I can have a full conversation inside my house perfectly.
My brother who owns the Iphone. He has to walk outside in order to talk on his phone.
Oh and yeah the full keyboard is much better than the Iphone at Texting.
Oh and dont get me wrong I am disappointed with HTC with the way they are handling this situation. Atleast be helpful, rather than leaving us with a "F**k you, we got your money, you got what you paid for." what they did was false advertise.
The problem is, in the U.S. The phone is still better than majority of all the other phones out there. OBviously not in Europe. but here. Yeah.
I've had both the iPhone (Returned it) and now I have the TILT...i prefer the tilt.
I know the video situation sucks but I think the phone is still good overall

What is new in the world of the Kaiser?!

The money I was going to spend on the Tilt went to my beautiful new 22 inch LG Monitor (W2252TQ - 270 at Best Buy - best monitor out there.)
So I looked up some news on it the other day, since buying the phone is in my sights again, and I saw that all kinds of things have come out for it. So what do I have to know? What about the battery? Any new killer aps? Slingbox good with it? What about a wireless hard drive I have, think I could get my Tilt to access it? What about my wireless printer, hahaha ok that one won't happen.
And wireless internet is 20 dollars a month? Is it worth it? Can i get it cheaper somehow?

I'd like to know where you guys get $15 and $20 Internet plans?
As far as I know, here in Chicago you have 2 choices:
$30 unlimited data
$50 unlimited data with tethering (or maybe it's $40).
I see in your sig you have AT&T too... do prices differ that much state to state?

You put your sim card in a non pda phone. Call AT&T, tell them you sold the tilt and sign up for the unlimited MediaNet @ 15.00. Put your sim back in the tilt.
your done.

See here for a word of caution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391980
the prices are not different from state to state; its just that some people are getting data plans theyre not supposed to be getting. those $15 and $20 plans are for non-smartphone's (ie, those crappy flip samsungs, etc). many ppl use these plans on the tilt and other smart phones with no probs, but rumor has it that at&t does check and will charge you per kb of data that u used....its a risk, up to you if u wanna take it
The person referring to the $15 plan is on a Media Net unlimited plan.
That plan is meant for customers who have REGULAR phones such as the LG Shine or something.
The PDA Plans are $30 for unlimited.
There have been things all around the net that if at&t switches your plan back to what it was supposed to be, you get a rediculously high bill. But they may just be rumors.
Nonetheless it's kind of stealing b/c you're paying for the wrong plan.
The reason they charge more money for PDA data plans is because PDA's are MUCH more data intensive.
Anyway, my brother owns a couple Cell phone stores, and I've worked there for 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
The only way for you to have that $15 plan still is if
a) you got it more than a few months ago.
b) the person you bought your phone from stuck the IMEI of a regular phone onto your account as oppossed to your true PDA's IMEI. Doing that would cause the data plans that come up on the feature page during activation to be the $15 media net unlimited plan.
They changed their system so that the IMEI used for activation is what the features shown are based off of for the dealer's activation system.
c) do what the above poster mentioned by sticking your sim in a different phone claiming you are using that one now instead of your PDA.

Newegg's best reviewed LCD monitor has major defective problems. And most LCD monitors have terrible glare and fake refresh rates, fake 2 m/s, and a fake contrast ratio. It's all on a forum somewhere, I can get it if you want, but LG is definitely better. Plus it's Newegg review is pretty good.

jeffla i answered your question through PM. feel free to contact me again if you are confused. I was assisted greatly with this issue and I should pass on what I know and learned so far.
iv used the tilt for about 1 week now... im not too impressed by it...
except the GPS is awesome. i got TomTom with it.
other than that... it seems alright. not as user friendly as many of the other phones.. u have to slide the keyboard just to type something, kind of annoying.
the touch screen needs a stylus most of the times.. thats something i dont really like too. u could use your fingers or nail but still.
overall not really impressed with the WM6.1 ppc edition... i like WM6 smartphone edition better. also battery life is kinda ****ty on this phone.
its a phone for gadget lover types... overall good value for money.
LOL I've had mine since october. You don't have to slide the keyboard out all the time and my stylus hardly gets uses. I can even use the onscreen keyboard sometimes with just my finger tip. Seriously, how can you be disapointed by having to use the keyboard? Didn't you even see the phone before you bought it.

except the GPS is awesome. i got TomTom with it.
other than that... it seems alright. not as user friendly as many of the other phones.. u have to slide the keyboard just to type something, kind of annoying.
the touch screen needs a stylus most of the times.. thats something i dont really like too. u could use your fingers or nail but still.

This all are just a matter of customization.
I am using resco keyboard and I can easilly type with my fingers.
Also using UltimateLaunch witch is really finger-friendlly. And there are also hardware keys - u can install quick menu, amd u can make almost everything using the keys.
As I said, its all about your customization.

As im sitting in court, reading these posts, im just waiting for somone to say the six letter word (iphone)
1. of course the screen needs a stylus, its a resistive display, you can however adjust the threshold to make it more finger frendly.
2. it is user frendly (if you know what your doing)
3. dont base 6.1 these are cooked roms and there are a bunch to choose from, if you dont like the user friendliness the go with a no frills version.
4. i had a crapple junkphone and now that i have a tilt i cant imagine how i even got by with a poopyphone, sorry iphone
5. this phone has a slide out keyboard, were???
6. scratch #5 i was kidding, of course you have to slide out the keyborad to type, unless you know of a way to type on it without sliding it out??
Look in all seriousness the Full duplex pocket pc communication device, we call the kaiser, is a great phone, a power house i tell you, you cant really appreciate it unless you have it. and of course everybody can find something wrong with anything they own, like my brand new (well slightly used) 2007 slk 55 amg mercedes benz, a small scratch on the wheel. And by the way the benq monitor is better than the lg.
So buy the damn phone you will be happy with it.
I was very curious about it's ability to talk to an Iomega "Wireless Hard Drive" that I have. There is software that you install on the computer and it can detect the drive over Wifi. Do you think the phone can do such a thing? Same for my printer?
Anyone here use Slingbox with it? How are the new homebrew roms? Any in particular I should know about?
Is the battery life REALLY that bad?
well i like the keyboard, i just dont like sliding it.
i'd prefer the tmobile Dash , blackbeerry, moto Q, type where the keyboard is right there.
the thing with the sliding keyboard deal is, once u slide, the screen changes to landscape mode, and the resolution or something makes everything a bit unclear to read....
also another thing with this phone is, when i plug in my phone to the computer usb , the screen is always on, it doesnt turn off at all. iv changed the settings to turn off, and it doesnt.
also the keyboard mapping is a little messed up... when i select @, it gives me ! etc etc... as far as i understand this seems to be a common problem with the original dash... its amazing how HTC, and ATT released a phone with incorrect keyboard mappings.
i dont know if it is Dutty's 6.1 rom or is it affecting every ROM... these minor software issues are annoying... how could anyone not fix them before releasing them to the public. another bug i found is when u select the Missed Calls section and then u hit the End Call button, the whole screen gets messed up and u can only fix it by hard reboot.

1. (wireless hard drive) if it is bluetooth yes, you have a bluetooth explorer folder wich allows you to use it as a virtual drive. I have a old pc with a 80gig hd in it i use exclusive for this. All you need is a bluetooth dongle.
2. (slingbox) tried it on edge (sucks) if you use it on 3g (great)
3. (wifi printing) I bluetooth docs to my main pc then print. I.E. excell doc's and word doc's. Thats a good question i can pair to my wifi printer but wouldnt have a clue on how to print. I would really like to be able, but never really experemented with it. I can controll my pc from my tilt so in effect i can bluetooth docs to my main pc then my remote from my tilt print from my main pc. So i really dont have to touch my main pc. (if you catch my drift).
4. (battery life) I am a heavy user, and i mean heavy. Usually i get 2 1/2 days without having to charge.
5. (homebrew rom's) ive flashed a couple times. but im satisfied with my att stock munus bloatware rom(works good for me).
Well both the printer and the hard drive are over Wifi. Does Windows Mobile work well with Windows programs? I would just have to move the .exe's (and drivers for the printer) onto the phone, I guess. It would really save space on the SD Cards.

Is it worth it? FLV tweaking + other, or Return?

Hi, I am very new to the cellphone/ smartphone modding scene. My friend recently decided to buy a new phone so we had been looking for a good phone for him and me, so he decided either tilt or iphone. I personally think the iphone is neat, but the lack of 3rd party programs w/o jailbreak, and no keyboard (i must have a full qwerty keyboard) is a huge turn off. We both have att, so he went to the store one day and came back with the 16g iphone. He took it back the next day... so he traded it for the tilt. Well I played around with it and I bought mine the next day (this is like 4 days ago). Since then I have done quite a few things... such as find out that there is NO drivers for the gfx card... apparently none of the reviews actually came out and stated that... "sluggish at times" is not "NO VIDEO DRIVERS!!". I have also flashed about 15 times or so, tried all sorts of cabs and whatnot. Right now I am running the L26 Diamondv3 rom. Anyways since i know we don't have drivers we must make do with what we have. But if I am going to be paying an extra 30 a month for unlimited data, i might as well use it. I know that i won't be able to play any games other than very very simple 2d games. But I was hoping i would be able to at least watch youtube videos. Well, watch videos where i can actually see what is happening (not the low quality mobile youtube with horrible sound). I have tried flashvideobundle with the tcmp w/e it is plugin. It worked alright but not as well as I had hoped. I have also looked into coreplayer, but 1.) not freeware 2.) apparently dTV doesn't work anymore so you have to use DirectDraw which tears.
My dad has an iphone and i can compare his quality using edge to mine using hsdpa... of course the tilt loses...
Ok. Now onto the point. Since there isn't really any other nice phones out there (that i know of, please correct me if i'm wrong) that have a large qwerty keyboard, not one that my thumb presses 4 buttons at once.. I think I will have to stick with the tilt. But if I am, i want to be able to use $30 a month in internet. I am using opera mobile beta for my browser, but i'd also like to watch decent quality vids. So...
Does anyone know anything that I might have missed in my digging around. Any tweaks for coreplayer that you might have found that i could look into purchasing it. Or maybe something to do with flashvideobundle.
Another thing is, is that i paid $400 for this phone... and a two year contract. So... I really need this phone to work, very well.. even if it doesn't have drivers.
This brings me to the second part of my post. Since I have spent $450 w/ tax... Should i keep this phone, maybe hope HTC makes drivers/ gets sued / whatever (which probably wont happen)... Or should I take it back and invest in a different phone? My old phone is an lg Chocolate KG800 (not american version) It just has a numberpad. My phone before that was a bb with full qwerty keyboard which i fell in love with. Does anyone know a phone that my suffice either until something else comes out, (which i would need around a $100-150 ish phone) or something that i could just go ahead and buy, and be happy with. Two phones I saw earlier was the Black Jack II and the BB Curve These would probably work until something really nice comes out
I know this is an HTC site and the Kaiser subsection, but from what I read not very many people are happy with HTC... So if you could please give me an unbiased opinion on my situation i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanx , Especially to those who cooked all sorts of goodies for me to play with these past few days
I bought this phone thinking i would use gps, but i barely do!
point is, really really think about what u will actually use, vs what would be nice to have.
The tilt/kaiser will surpass, but even though its subpar at playing videos/games its still solid device.
I would love to play a game seamlessly, but then again, the only game id play is like bejeweled at the toilet. And kaiser/tilt plays it seamlessly too! FYI, With coreplayer, videos will play smoothly, and its currently being updated with flash support.(There talking to adobe and all that stuff, check out corecodec.com forums!)
A good phone w/ a slide out qwerty wont be out for a few months, and if ur planning on getting a deal with a carrier u can add a year to that.
So, if it was me and
-I want to get a good deal with a carrier
-I thought real hard and found out i really dont play doom on my phone that much.
Id get the kaiser
otherwise, if
-I have about a grand to spend on a phone
I would wait a couple months and purchase a nextgen phone.
Sony Xperia sounds nice!
Oh yeah, dont be a hater of htc because they messed up. They already do more than what other companies will do for their customers.(Offer a free Wm6.1 update, etc) To bad people dont realize that. Alot of people here expect to be spoonfed by a company thats not obligated too.
On, The GPS issue , i thought it would be nice, but I got a gps a few weeks ago so i haven't really used it. I am a college student so I need some sort of quick on the fly , yet simple note taking. So I was thinking the tilt would work. and for the most part it does. But anyways, Actually the original phone i was going to get would have been the xperia, then i saw the tilt. since they are both made by HTC I figured that it'd be probably the same device... but now i know it probably has drivers.
And I guess HTC has done some good for their customers, but what kind of company releases a $400 smartphone without drivers?...

Holy crap! One of the reasons I'm not too upset about the driver issue is because I paid ~175 for this phone. I dont know man. If you ask me, if you going to dish out that much, you might as well wait and see what HTC Diamond has to offer once/if it comes out in the US. I haven't been following the Diamond too well so I'm not even sure. Dont get me wrong, this phone is really good. When it comes to functionality and availability of support (XDA) and apps (XDA again), its really the way to go. GPS, 3g, qwerty, a dozen chefs making dozens of ROMs, a dev community taking the best of other devices to work with Tilts, and so on. These are the reasons I havent sold this phone. I say do more research and look into phones that are coming up, so I say wait. If you can find a tilt for cheaper than 450, maybe in the 200 range, then keep it, but 450....? Damn. If it helps, I got mine at BestBuy with a contract...good luck
Thats my 2¢.
the money is ome of my biggest concerns... if it did onlycost only a hundred or a a little more.. then it would be like thats sucks.. oh well... but since i dont curently have a job at the moment (this is usibg half of my graduation money) so i really dont have the money to blow awa. my friend got a 100 percebt refund so i can to. but the internet feature is really nice. in my opinion not as good for normal browsing as the iphone, but i dont think it is worthpaying 450 plus the extra 30 for something that is mediocre..
(this was typed on a tilt on my way to clas... the text was really lagy on the input, but that could be the browser)

Let me know how it is. I work in Pomona and that's pretty close to whittier also.
yea give us a review, I'm interested cause it would be ideal to play the games and browse the web on the tv (for me at least)
The resolution will be very limited because of the connector type though.
Cant find this item anywhere... can some one help with a new link
Update on order
Well I placed my order on friday the 2nd of October and had to call on wednesday (7th) to check status and I was told that there was a recall on all myTouch 3g TV-OUT Cables due to the fact that the ones they had in stock ONLY worked with the Europe version of the myTouch.
Accoring to the Rep, he was not 100% sure when the US version would be in stock.
The good news is I did receive a FULL refund,

hopefully they have it. i dont remember seeing it.
I have that cable right here, and it doesn't do a thing on my MT3G. I suspect T-Mobile has it in their assortment for the Touch Pro2 (which does work with it).
I wouldn't waste my money on ordering it. If the MT3G had TV Out enabled, someone cooking a rom would have found references to it ages ago.

Bummer. Does it at least have audio? and if it does can you charge at the same time?

The cable has audio, but my MT3G didn't do anything with it. It has a charging port, and that appears to be the only thing that works. As I said - on my Touch Pro2, there is a control panel option for TV out, and it works perfectly on that.
As it only has the composite, yellow, rca for video out, I don't see it as a big loss ( sorry for the people who already bought it) that it doesn't work. Like said previously, the res on your tv would be really bad anyway. Hate to say it but my ipod touch has component out on its cable and that is analog, but at least it's high res.
