Android on Xperia

Hi everybody!
Why should be the device bricking fun limited to brother Raphael?
Android runs on Raphael
HardSPL is being worked on
Sounds promising?
Unfortunately I know little about how far the Xperia diverges from the current HTC branded lineup, hardware-wise.
Could some knowledgeable people share their opinion about porting Android onto Xperia e.g:
Booting linux (SD, MSM7200A vs MSM7201A ...)
Display (~ Blackstone?)
Keyboard (~ Raphael?)
Touchscreen (~ Blackstone?)
Cellular radio driver (~ Raphael? US / Asia / Eu?)
Wifi, B/T (~ Raphael?)
Buttons
GPS (~ Raphael?)
MSM7200A "3D" acceleration, FM radio?
Potential show stoppers?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
I extended the Xperia wiki page with some specifications (because alot of... strange... specs are floating on the web)
Yea that would be awesome to have android on this super bad @ss hardware. We still need a hard SPL before we can flash anything though

yeah that is true .. hopefully oli, comnex, itsxda, or tom condon are working on something or atleast plan on doing one for this phone ...
The Xperia, uses the same CPU as the Raphael, the model numbers vary due to patent issues but you'll find that a euro x1 matches a euro Raphael etc.
The 3D acceleration is in fact a 128MB ATI Imageon (2300/2700G - not sure which, don't own the phone myself =P)

I thought the 2700G was an intel accelerator, the one used on the Dell Axim? I might be completely worng, Ati might have the same model numbers, I don't know.
As you'll may know. I'm from the Android on Kaiser project.
My Xperia X1 will receive this Friday.
Then I'ma try to get Android 1.0 to work.
0.8 already works. Tested it on a Xperia teste deviece.
But don't know if 0.9 1.0 works.
More infor hopefully this weekend.

Very nice information, please keep us updated!
wow allready?? sounds sweet. But how did you flash it onto the phone?
ill buy the x1 only if andriod fully works?! because this combi will rock i hope any1 know what how en when?
Android will never fully work on the X1 because android needs a multitouch enabled display which the X1 doesnt have.
So it will always be somewhat limited...anyway, will be nice to try it out. I dont think there is an Anroid only ROM yet, afaik all the running Android versions on WM phones have to be started through WM.

What about a reason why it doesnt make sense in your opinion ?
The t-mobile G1 has a capactive display that features multitouch, like the Iphone.
WM phones like the X1 or any other HTC WM Phone have traditional touch displays that dont support multitouch, so you would never be able to use android apps that need multitouch to work, or atleast cant use some of the features.

He's probably right. Android itself is just an OS/platform and it's has no limit on what kind of touch panel you use.
Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know the G1 hasn't got multitouch. The captive touchscreen will most likely support it however this feature has yet to be implemented. As far as the avrage consumer concerns, it does not support multi-touch. Hence stating that android needs full multi-touch capability to work properly would be wrong, as I and probably you too consider the G1 fully functional.
well the screen DOES support multi-touch and the apps will come sooner or later.
Anyway, didnt want to spoil the fun, would also love to check that out, just wanted to point that out.

Android on JADE

Alright people, after some litle research, i have found out that Android currently boots on HTC Touch Cruise ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64LYnTxhj44 ). HTC Touch Cruise is using the same processor as the HTC Touch 3G, Qualcomm MSM7225. So is there a way we can port the version from Polaris to Jade ?
C'mon people, lets start a project, as i see many PDAs out there can now successfully boot Android, lets not leave out our wonderful Jade...
WE WANT ANDROID !
Unfortunately htc touch cruise (polaris) has the msm7200 processor like the kaiser. The newer one (iolite) has the msm7225.

hhmmmm...i see, didnt realise that there was a previous version. But c'mon, no one knows how to port android to MSM7225 ?
HTC tattoo
I am also looking for ages for some android port to the MSM 7225. Now, finally, an android device similar to the Jade is coming out before october!!
And for all the people saying 320x240 is too small for android, well, the Tattoo seems to do fine with that..
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/08/htc-tattoo-aka-click-brings-android-sense-ui-to-all/
Now we just have to wait for someone porting that android ROM to Jade..
help?
EDIT
oh and here's already the HTC official site! http://www.htc.com/www/product/tattoo/specification.html
At least android for msm7225
now it seems almost sure that at some time we will have the opportunity to run android in our phones.
oooh I CANT WAIT !
Definitely count me in as a tester !
Yeah, it will run on 320x240. But as far as I know most apps are designed for higher resolutions. So it won't be really useful.
It seems that HTC is releasing a new device based on the same processor as our jade, with Android and 2.8 screen, HTC Tattoo. Maybe there is still a hope on seeing a port to Jade
Hello ,
Have You news of this possibility "Android for HTC Jade"?
I think our phone isn't popular enough for developers to work on a port for our phone, I can't find any signs that someone is working on a port. Let's hope this changes fast!
i really hope so too, cant wait to play around with android on it !
@StewieTux
hi
u really have a point here yes our phone isnt popular and for ur info
ppc geek does not have a forum for us and it has every other HTC phone old and new but not ours even after me asking so many time now i days i don't visit the site
so i really dought if well get android unless one of our great cooks decides to do some thing regarding the same
but count me in to test any ROM for our great jade i love this phone man

The problem isn't the power of the phone, it's the type of the processor and the screen resolution. However there is still hope, Android 1.6 SDK is released and supports different screen resolutions! =>> http://developer.android.com/index.html
Hi,
I was browsing around and found a new HTC phone with Andriod 1.5 (yet to be launched). The phone is called HTC Tattoo. Refer to the following link:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_tattoo-2932.php
The hardware of this phone is almost similar to Jade ..... Same processor and screen resolution.
Look at the comparison below:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=2526&idPhone1=2932
If Andriod 1.5 is possible in that phone, I am sure it can be ported to Jade. I am just wondering about the few more hardware buttons and higher ROM.

is there any official wm6.5 rom for touch viva

guys , i just wanna know why everyone is cooking those roms, isnt thr any official wm6.5rom available for viva. IF not then why. plz reply
nope
no there are no official rom available for Opal/HTC T2223! i hav called the HTC helpline and asked and they said they have no idea. and i personally think there will be no official upgrade! so once ur warranty gets over, then may be u can flash it with a 6.5.x Rom! bt remember if u get stuck and u need the original HTC one, u need to pay 500 bucks! im waiting for my warranty to get, which happens coming may! bt still i hope stability will be a problem for opal because its only 128 mb ram and Touch flo interface need to be redesigned, taking hell of ram!

[Q] Possible a Windows Phone 7 ROM for Topaz?

Is it possible a Windows Phone 7 ROM for Topaz?
In the conference, seems WP7 is pretty amazing...
From what I understand, our phones don't have enough horsepower to run WP7. Gotta have at least a 1ghz processor. There are other requirements also but I can't remember them.
yeah true, but do we really need 1ghz. There is always the option, that most topaz users, would not want the entire OS, rather few things from it. Then i dont think we need 1GHZ.
What do you think?
I think the 1GHz and 576mb RAM is needed for Xbox life. Those new HTC phones will play most of Xbox360 games http://www.htc.com/europe/product/7trophy/overview.html
With ours Htc diamonds 2 we can't play xbox game ,but i think all other parts from os will be operating normally like as wm6.5.

I don't think you will be able to play 360 games in WM7, you can access and update information on your xbox live account, and talk to friends, etc, but you wont be able to play your 360 games on your phone, windows phone 7 has its own games coming to it....

It's been answered many times in main WP7 thread, strict hardware requirements are needed more, if performance is not a matter, there must exist another WP7 device with a similar Qualcomm MSM7200 platform to extract drivers from.
The simple answer is NO and I really doubt there would be one.

I must say by the standart no....But I know that the wp7 UI seems a low ram eater. We just need some awesome hackers that extract the basic rom and place all the features except for some like the xbox part in a rom we could use. Manilla 2.5 or sense was developed for hd2 and where using it. I beleive ut could be done. I think this requirements where made to bring the best of the phone and don't be stuck behind the lame and false publisity of the iphone.
...just we have to wait for WM7 kitchen...

Yes, it is and I'm sure that will be a WM7 ROM for Topaz.
Of course, it could be better to have 1GHz processor but don't forget that Topaz can be safely overclocked to about 700 MHz and also don't forget that there are a lot of marketing reasons to NOT encourage porting WM7 on older mobile phones.
Sorry for bring up an old thread. Just wanna say something.
From a developer standpoint nothing is completely impossible. If someone were to make a direct port from WP7 to a slower device with less ram then some modifications will need to be done to it. This could mean leaving some parts of wp7 out (which may cause instability to applications that require those features) or developing a custom version of a system file for use in WP7 for the phone in question (also may cause instability if the programmer doesn't know what he/she's doing). Obviously it's not a simple "cut and paste" from WM to WP7.
Also, I have already tried to extract a NBH rom with WP7 on it in a WM rom extractor, just to test and see if the format was the same. The formats are different. They have differences in their sections so any normal WM boot loader wouldn't be able to load a WP7 rom in a WM rom format. A solution would probably be to flash a new boot loader to support WP7 roms however this is dangerous and has a very high risk of bricking your device (after all, the one thing that can really save you from bricking your device is your boot load to flash a new rom, so messing with the boot loader itself can do your device in for good unless you have a backup boot loader just lying around).
Take these words into consideration if you're working on a port.

hmm Actually, you dont NEED a 1ghz processor, however you need a v7 instruction capable processor. TOPAZ has a v6 one, so its a no go.
On the other hand, if devs could get their hands on a the source code, remove the xbox live and strip high-requirement features then make the rom available on it should work, however WP7 was written to take advantage of v7 technology.

No it is not possible as MS need different hardware for WP and WM devices does not fit in there except the HD2 (I love my HD2 for this).
But I dont have a HD2 and only have TD2 at present. OK I will have to stay with WinMO 6.5 till I get a new WP7 mobile
Thank you all.

[Q] Android 1.0 ?

Yeah really not the most relevant question but i really wanna now if it is any chance that it is possible to run old android like 1.0, 1.1, 1,5 or 1,6 on the p990 it would be kinda cool to try it, is there any chance this is possible, sorry for nooby question.
Thanks
why?
apart from "just for the fun of it"...
and probably not possible, need to backport a lot of drivers since I dont know of any tegra2 device running something lower than 2.x, and some kind of bootloader or port it to either gb or ics bootloader partitions.
more of an educated guess rather than actuall knowledge so take it like that.

Please define "awesome". Sure, I can see how it would be interesting for a curious mind to try it out, just for the heck of it, kinda like running Windows 3.1 on Intel Core i7 with 4GB of RAM, or something... But I fail to see any practical reason whatsoever.

i would say awesome more like glorious, its like a ps3 and xbox 360 they are both great, but deeply u know that u wanna play old school like a n.e.s or atari 2600 u wanna try something that started it all thats why i want the "old android" the thing that started it all (I hope that undertstand that)
but isnt there a chance that we could port like donut to it, that would be glorious
is there a chance or... is this completly dead ? :crying:
ok im still gonna try to post here, is there a small chance that it could be ported ? it doesn't even have to be android 1.0-1,6 anymore is there any chance that ecleair could be ported ?
honestly, why do you want that?
it's not gonna be like old school games on pc or ps3, it's gonna be choppy and slow, bad rendering, bad scrolling feel and the likes, being lighter doesn't mean it's gonna operate properly, and I don't even think there's dual core support as well (but probably the linux kernel would handle it) as the first dual was the 2x and it run froyo as I recall.
