i00 ROM (GPS+Phone+Mic+MMS) Updated 9/3/2009 - Shift Development

Ok just cooked this up over the weekend .. still needs a little tweaking and testing - is the first ROM that I have released - I think it is kinda clean
Feedback is much appriciated (as always) ... and let me know if you find any bugs
BTW I read somewhere that it is possible to increase SnapVue's RAM to 64 MBs - sounds like a load of * to me ... but let me know if you know how to do this as it is really SnapVue's downfall IMHO
... I will also post some screen shots when I get the chance (is kinda late here atm)
... basically these are the specs:
Initial Release (8/2/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: ~15MBs
Free Storage after hard reset: ~20MBs
Based on thaihugo's kitchen ROM
New input methods:
Full QWERTY (nicer and easier to input than the built in one)
Software included:
Office Mobile
Remote Desktop
Pictures and videos
Notes
Pocket Internet Explorer
Live/Messenger
Windows Media Player
Restored Today Items
Internet Sharing
Liberated
Opera Browser (Full)
MS Voice Command (Pre setup to read email subjects)
NET Compact Framework 3.5
Network Plugin
HTC Task Manager 2
HTC GPS Tool
SIM Manager
Task Manager
USB Tool
Automatically deletes Opera cache, PIE cache Temp folder and Google Maps cache each startup
Various registry tweaks... eg:
No SMS notification
Cleartype
Phone stuff removed since there is no phone functionality ... yet
The link is attached in the text document so I can see how many ppl download it
Note: you can free up alot of space by removing MS Voice Command from the cook - and save about 4 MBs of RAM by disabling it - It is important for me to be able to 'hear' my emails come in while I am at work though so this has been put in
However the overall stability of the ROM has been sacrificed in doing so -
To disable: Start > Settings > Voice Command > Uncheck Enabled
WARNING - IF PROGRAMS CLOSE UNEXPECTEDLY: This is because your low on RAM - you can stop the Voice Commander service as stated above, or download advanced config and prevent HTC Task Manager from closing apps automatically when low on RAM
Update (10/2/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: ~16 MBs
Free Storage after hard reset: ~22.5 MBs (and 27.95 total user area)
Ripped out more from the stock ROM to free up some more space (bluetooth functionality etc since the snap view side can not see bluetooth anyway etc.)
Increased ROM stability and freed up some more ram by removing unnecessary services.
New registry tweaks:
Changed default area code to nothing
Added email and and txt msg sound notifications
Update (18/2/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: ~19.58 MBs
Free Storage after hard reset: ~28.84 MBs (and 32.32 total user area)
Changes:
Ripped out even more from the ROM
REMOVED OPERA (download it from one of the other threads if you want it back - I use the Windows side for surfing the net)
Changed splash screen
Added i00 Reg Edit 0.99 B (my own registry editor made especially for my ROM - will be released soon in a separate thread)
Update (2/3/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: ~16.78 MBs
Free Storage after hard reset: ~27.53 MBs (and 30.82 total user area)

Changes:

Update 20090307 (7/3/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: 17.09 MBs (Taken from HKCU\Performance\ after 2nd boot)

Common Questions
OK thought I'd put together a list of common questions that people have with this ROM to stop me answering the same questions again and again.
Q: What else is included in the Flash
A: Besides the OS the ROM includes Hard SPL and Radio 1.27.35.28
Q: Can I run this ROM on
A: Besides the OS the ROM includes Hard SPL and Radio 1.27.35.28
Q: How do I install this ROM?
A: Well if you have used custom ROMs in the Past you can just download and run the EXE - else you will have to "Liberate" your shift - connect it to your Vista side with USB Tools and then run the EXE
Q: How do I disable T9
A: Open the input options for the Full QWERTY Keyboard - Click T9 Settings then un-check all the checkboxes
Q: The WM side turns off and will not come back on
A: If this happens to you go to ( on the WM side) Settings > Connections > USB to PC application and tick "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" (thanks nbos04)
A2: You can also disable (Under Settings>Power>Advanced) the option to turn off the device when it is not used for X.
Q: Programs keep closing unexpectedly
A: You may be low on RAM - if this is the case you may want to kill the Voice Command Service, as this takes up to 4MBs of RAM constantly
Q: How can I change the Keyboard Language?
A: The registry setting for the keyboard layout is as follows HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang; The complete list of values to enter can be found here; however not all are fully compatible with the Windows Mobile platform; also changing these key mappings will not change the large on screen keyboard - to change the on screen one you will need to either edit the eT9.Raphael.0409.kmap.txt file (advanced but allows for custom layouts); or download another layout from here.
I will consider including the additional on screen keyboard languages in future releases.
Q: How do I set the data connection on the W/M side to auto - disconnect as it drains the battery too quickly?
A: The registry setting for the to auto disconnect the data connection is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings. In there you have the setting CacheTime this is the number of seconds that will elapse before auto disconnection the data connection when not in use; change this as appropriate. You will also need to turn on the auto disconnection by editing the SuspendResume to read: GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(Note: if the auto disconnection still does not work make sure that you are not constantly connected to data - ie. Exchange server set to receive items as they arrive)

Congrats on your rom. Looks heavy.
There is no way to get 64 mb of ram as this is the current chipset capacity, without OS loaded.
44Mb is my maximum storage available (with a functionning system of course)
I'm waiting for the new base with phone to work from there.

Yea like I said it sounded like a load of * -ahh well - plan to re-release this ROM when the phone is hacked too!

I love this sort of ROM - stuffed full of goodies. It's like a Christmas treat.
I've installed the ROM just now and it's exactly how I would want the WM side to be. Thanks for setting up Opera for us layabouts that can't be bothered to
I have syncd the ROM with my huge Outlook file and it works great.
Will give you more feedback as I play.
Latest:
I'm very happy with Opera.
Haven't worked out how to disable T9 yet to set up email etc.
I can't install youtubeplay I'm getting an error. Anyone know how to get it working on this ROM?
Very Latest: I found the option to disable T9 under the keyboard options. I love the new large on-screen keypad!
I prefer the fancy calculator of Gullum's ROM IMHO.

I will install the calc skin from my touch pro and see how that runs - also will rip some more "unnecessary" stuff out such as bluetooth since it doesn't work anyway and will hopefully free up some memory too

As for you tube you could download the diamond/touch pro version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395338
don't know if it works but judging by my touch pro the interface only works in Portrait (it may still work but will load in portrait)
as for the calc skin i have attached it to this post with a screen shot
will also post a newer version of my ROM, later tonight, that has ~22.5 MBs of free space (and 27.95 total user area) after boot and ~16 MBs of free ram ... seems to be more stable also
may embed the calc skin into later builds ... but it's a little big for my tastes for something i don't use

Thanks i00.
I agree that the default calculator is best now that I have seen the memory requirements of the fancy calculator skin.
Thanks for the youtubeplayer link. I haven't tried it yet but will do so this evening.
I'm having a bizzare problem setting up my email accounts for some reason. It is tricky entering my username and password, and when I try to auto detect the account configuration it says it cannot connect. When I go BACK, the password field contains more characters than I originally entered. I haven't tried manually setting up the full account yet, but this behaviour I haven't seen before.
I haven't worked out how to get the voice control goodies working yet but I'll enjoying tryin all of that out this week. I wouldn't miss voice control at all on your next ROM release however.
Edited:
Comm Manager under SnapVue Settings seems to run without displaying anything. I hope that can be fixed...
Looking forward to your next ROM release. Hope it is soon... your's is the best ROM yet IMHO.
Thanks again.
Updated.
Have been using the new ROM and am happy to report that it is notably more responsive and faster.
I was delighted to find screen orientation option for portrait under settings, so thanks for that. Although I did manage lose the start menu at some point so I was stuck on the Snapvue page and was forced to reboot from Vista. I'll let you know the details if I repeat it.
The modem is totally stable, which is great. I didn't manage to work out how to install youtubeplay but it's no showstopper, I'm very please with the ROM. I installed fexploreext which is small but infinitely useful.
Ta.

Will try to post a new release before Wed next week ... any suggestions for the new release? - I am considering taking out Opera Full and loading Opera mini instead as it requires less RAM.
Am also making a registry editor that I plan to include in the next release.
Let me know if you (anyone) has any requests.

Hi everyone,
I'd really like to test this ROM but each time I launch le Custom RUU with this ROM, it ends uo with an "ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR"
Is there a special thing to do to use this ROM ?

Have you installed a custom rom onto your device before?
You need to Hard SPL on it prior to trying to flash this ROM
The error codes are listed here:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/windows-mobile-faq/13329-ruu-errors.html
This page states
ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
I would try again and if that doesn't work
Download another RUU

I think that's my problem : I've only liberated the ROM shipped with my Shift.
I found the thread with Hard SPL... I've install it... Now's the ROM turn !
Thanks for the help !

So did the ROM flash since u Hard SPLed? - and let me know what u think.
Also nice dog btw

going to try it
I have tried thai hugos and gullims and been disappointed with various things so i'm goign to try yours. I was intending to try to install my tiny kensington mouse which is bluetooth and worked with my advantage but if you've ripped BT out I can't is there a way to put it back in?
Thw worst thing i found about the other rom's is the fact stoopid usb tool never stays connected, anyone else have that issue?
edit: found some stuff about usb tool issues on the forum and trying those.

Yes, the "flashing process" worked perfectly... but I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the ActiveSync process was unable to complete the update of my 325 contacts : it always failed after 116 contacs updated...
So I tried a french ROM (the "French light GPS" one) and it worked...
Maybe a language issue...
If you want me to go back to your ROM and work together to sort this out, I'd be pleased to help...

TuMa v1.3 - BETA - WM5 ROM - Wizard Ported to BA

Updated to TuMa v1.3 ... all in the quest for perfection!
Apologies for the "fast" update to the previous ROM, but there were a number of things which DID need fixing and improving, especially the filesystem bug, and I believe I've accomplished that now.
All of the bugs and issues which were mentioned in the TuMa v1.1 thread (I believe) have been addressed - except for the BlueTooth disconnect issue. However, I have news directly from mamaich, that he is looking into the BT issue, and will hopefully have a solution soon.
The BIGGEST and BEST news is that my Phone RINGS after 1 RING now!
Although for this to work it is REQUIRED that you use a WAV file for your RingTone. Converting any MP3, WMA, or whatever into a WAV is a simple exercise - but it just uses a LOT of storage space. I've made a new "LoudOldPhone.wav" file, and set it as the default ring in this ROM. Test it out first and let me know your results.
TuMa v1.3 removes the LoudOldPhone.wav, and has all the standard Ring Tones converted to WAV format appropriately, so that ALL default rings will RING the phone quickly.
NOTE: The WAV file RULE applies for all NOTIFICATION sounds as well. Ensure that you choose only WAV files for these elements, and you'll have a snappy Blue Angel!
TuMa v1.2 (Wizard Port) Features:
- Originally based on the Wizard Port by mamaich
- OS and Application extracted from Himalaya, Jasjar, Wizard, and other ROMs
- Core Applications entirely contained in the ROM - Additional CABs not required
- EXTROM is now available again! You can repartition the EXTROM as you wish
- Quantum Timing (Thread Switching) set to 25ms timeslice (performance boost)
- Filesystem Performance improved (maximized), while still retaining reliability
- Notification and Phone Ring Time Improved (MUST USE xxx.WAV FILES!!!)
- Numerous other OS Level Performance Tweaks and Improvements made
- Useful Applications added to Startup Folder (easily disabled)
- So you can easily add whatever you want to this "base" ROM
TuMa v1.3 (Wizard Port) Features:
- Fixed Voice Command Registry Bug. Now you can remap the button as desired without registry hacking.
- Converted all Standard/Default Ring Tones to be WAV files for FAST Ring Times (with maximum volume)
- Fixed the Arcsoft MMS CABs to put the media files into the correct/best folders (avoid Ringtone issues, etc.)
- Fixed the HTC Camera CABs to NOT reset the MMS Manager DLL Entries if a different MMS Manager is used in future
- Added the RamDisk version of the Camera CAB for those who want to use it (must edit your EXTROM)
- Removed the Waterfall.jpg, and Flower.jpg default images, since I ran out of space in the ROM
- Fixed a Spelling and Versioning mistake in the v1.2 ROM
- Updated the readme.txt in the TuMa v1.3 ZIP file ...
There are presently 3 optional CAB files. During installation you may simply CANCEL the installation of the CAB file, and not have the feature installed.
i.e. Users with a SX66 will NOT want to install the HTC Camera application.
* MidletManager-TuMa.cab - Installs the Java Midlet Manager
* ArcsoftMMS-TuMa.cab - Installs the Arcsoft MMS Composer (NOTE: You must create an account)
* HTC Camera-TuMa.cab - Installs the HTC Camera and updates MMS for Camera operation on device
TuMa v1.3 adds:
* HTC Camera-TuMa-RamDisk.cab - Installs the HTC Camera and updates MMS for Camera operation on "Temp Disk"
Camera users will want to CHOOSE which Camera CAB they use. You can either rename the CAB file to be the same (without the "-RamDisk") or change the "Cfg.txt" configuration file to suit your choice.
I've included FULL installation instructions, and the "BaUpgradeUt.exe" and support files into the ZIP file. Please read the "readme.txt" file for full upgrading instructions. There is a SetOperator.bat file included in the ZIP which will make setting the Operator ID a "piece of cake" now. 8)
The EXTROM files are unchanged from TuMa v1.1 for those who are upgrading to v1.2.
The EXTROM files are different for TuMa v1.3. Use the new ones for best results. 8)
FYI: For anyone providing feedback, I will be leaving for Germany (from New Zealand) on Sunday, so I'll only have until then to respond and/or make any updates/patches or corrections. Hopefully there won't be any!
Most importantly now ... Download from here:
*** Edit: Fixed download locations ... again! ***
Download Tuma v1.3 (recommended)
ftp://xda:[email protected]/TuMa 1.3/WM5 BA - TuMa v1.3 - Release.zip
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Updates/TuMa 1.3/WM5-BA-TuMa.v1.3.rar (Probably just a repackage of the above ???)
All other WM5 ROMs are also located here:

Look around!
That's all ... enjoy the ROM.
thanks
thank you and god luk

This is actually a battery meter! Check out the "Battery Meter" in "Tools", and you can configure it as you wish. It's a very low-low overhead way of having the battery status at a glance. As always, if you don't want it - simply remove the shortcut from the "Startup" folder and it's gone.

By not doing so, all my installed applications are still there after the upgrade.

When upgrading the ROM, it is VERY STRONGLY recommended (scratch that REQUIRED!!!) that you perform a full HARD RESET of your device, and Clean the Registry, and Format the Storage (read the readme in TuMa v1.2). By not doing so you run the risk of having corrupted registry information, and you will NOT have the benefit of the changes made in this ROM.
It will then run slowly, it will have problems, and it will give random errors nobody else has. In essence, your device will be running a new ROM with old instructions ... not a good look.
So, it's still your choice (I can't hit the buttons for you) ... if you don't do it YMMV. 8)
I luv u Tuatara !
But I have question, why don't changing Splash Image??? :?:
Is it still have a color strip when u do hard/soft reset ?
How fast (percent) if u compare with ROM Wizard To BA v2 ?
Thanks
Nice release, Tuatara, can't wait to get home and try it out. WIll do the wiki page too.
I'm using your grea new update but for me the same problems ....
No bt Headest , and no mms.

Like I said in the post above ... you NEED to clean the Registry (and Format Storage to get the performance increase). If you don't do that, you're running your new ROM on old registry settings, and you end up with something which MAY or MAY NOT work. MMS for example isn't working for you ... other things probably won't as well. Sorry, but it's an excuse to BACKUP everything (not registry!), and then clean out the chaff on your device.
Think about it as if you're upgrading Windows 98 to Windows XP. I can't really think of anything more "evil" ... If you ever did this, you know that you have to pray your machine still boots afterwards.
In other news ... mamaich is HOT on the heels of a BT fix ... PLEASE DO NOT PRESSURE HIM - It will be ready, when it's ready.
Watch this space [ ].
i am having a problem setting the record button to the record function on my sx66. it is consistently the voice speed dial program. i use windows voice command anyhow so i was wondering if you can make the voice speed dial optional unless many people find it absolutely necessary
Camera is installable on "Temp Disk" !!!
For the "cool toys" department ...
mamaich asked me if the additional CAB files could be installed into the "Temp Disk" (RamDisk) instead of into storage, since re-installing those CABs if power is ever lost is trivial. Well, I tried to modify the Arcsoft MMS, and the Midlet Manager - but I was unsuccessful.
However, (comma ... pause for dramatic effect)
The Camera CAN be installed to the Temp Disk, freeing up another 1.5Mb of Storage! This is especially useful for those who don't use MMS, and couldn't care about having Java Midlets running on their device!
Now you CAN have a device with the WHOLE STORAGE SPACE available, including your (now probably miniscule like mine @ 128Kb) EXTROM !!!
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/HTC Camera-TuMa-RamDisk.cab
You CAN install this CAB after uninstalling the original CAB, but you will need to soft reset your device to have the Camera detection & initialization happen properly.
Better yet, you can replace it in your EXTROM (rename the file and/or edit the config file) before doing the TuMa v1.2 upgrade. 8)
Removing Voice Dial ...

It is (or rather was) entirely optional in the ROM, but it appears that on HARD RESET, the Voice Dial software re-installs itself as the default button handler. *sigh*
This will again need to be added to the Wiki (as before KTamas), but at least it's easier for everyone to do now ...
"Record" button is fixedly mapped to Voice Dial
1). Open up "Regedit" and delete the registry entry "LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand"
2). Open up "File Explorer" and delete the "SD Daemon" link from the "/Windows/Startup" Directory
3). Open up "Buttons" (in Settings), and set your "Record" button
4). Return to the "Today Screen", and use psShutXP to Soft-Reset your device.
Presto ... you now have the "Record" button mapped to ... well ... "Record". 8)
Installation Hints ...
For those of you who could possibly still have a shred of patience, I believe it's quite worthwhile to add a little bit of "waiting time" in, when installing this ROM.
When your device resets from the HARD RESET, and the "Windows Mobile" welcome screen comes up and greets you merrily ... wait a little while until the "Blue LED" (on my iMate) stops blinking on the top left (about 15-20 seconds or so).
Only then continue and configure up your device. You'll notice that the alignment cursor, pages, cut & paste selctions, etc. are all 'lightning quick'.
This is because the OS is still booting, starting applications, and building up the registry information in the background.
So, take a little bit of time, and your device will love you for it. 8)
Tuatara
You did it again the ringtone resolve is just great mine rings about half way through the first ring with a converted mp3.
Did some testing with v1.1 yesterday and was happy with that but this looks even more promising..
oh well back to installing tom tom and all the other junk needed for work
will report back later and let you know how ive got on..
Thanks Again

Ok ... like with EVERYTHING in this ROM, I've left it up to you (the user) to add (i.e. configure) or remove (i.e. delete from /Windows/Startup) any or all of the elements you do or don't want. In this way the ROM is a BASE for anything you wish to do, without having stuff installed which isn't to your liking. (Ok, barring the Speed Dialer issue, but that's also easily resolvable).
To configure up your MMS Account do the following 13 step process:
1). Check that you have "MMS Configuration ..." available in your Outlook Menu. If you don't then something has seriously gone wrong. Did you install the "ArcsoftMMS-TuMa.cab" file through the EXTROM or manually? If not - do so now. MMS is NOT available in the Base ROM.
2). Click it, and just ensure that it comes up and is active. The about should say "MMS Composer Version 3.0.7.11"
3). Click [ok] and close it.
4). Menu -> Tools -> New Account
5). Enter "[email protected]" as your email (doesn't matter what). Click Next.
6). Detect settings ... wait ... Click Next.
7). Enter a username "mms" will do. Click Next.
8). Select "MMS" as the Account Type. Click Next.
9). Incoming Server = "mms", Outgoing Server = "mms". Click Finish.
10). Finally ... click "NO" to not download mail for this account.
11). Now go back to Menu -> "MMS Configuration ..." -> Servers
12). Edit and modify the "Sample Server" to your required settings ... (which I can't help you with)
13). Presto ... you now have an MMS account.
Hope that gets you up and going ...
---
NOTE: KTamas ... probably another one for the Wiki ...
Ok, it's there..I just assumed it was the same as previous one, in which i did that procedure, but MMS account type wasn't there. Shame on me
Nice work Tuatara

And best of all there is a choice of page poll 8mb 6mb and 4mb roms, note that the lower the page pool the more ram you will have but performance will decrease.
For ram freaks I may be inclined to post a rom with 2mb page poll! But bear in mind that you may miss 1 year of phone calls before the device rebbots.ehe
A special thanks goes to Bepe and Risidoro for helping with the page poll business.
Credit also goes to everyone that created the freeware software included in the rom ,and also everyone that helped testing the rom.

Page Pool
Faria
Thanks for this rom, I really liked the first one but soem of the problems were too much to live with and I was very close to going back to one of the earlier ones.
I dont know much about page pools but from the first post here you say a smaller page pool the less performance.
Why would anyone want less performance and more ram? what is the benefit of more ram?
Thanks again
I have just downloaded and will no doubt spend the next few hours salivating.

Yep.. To be specific I didn't have any audio bug, was happy.. Until i received a call.. Then audio from the player came out.. And it's the same every time
After soft reset audio is OK.. After a call - everyone hears my music and calls.. BTW. This is with headphones plugged in, on G4 (
Nice Work... Gonna give it a try right away
hail to the mighty one
Glad to hear the about the page pool guys, about the sd booting slower I guess that's why in the previous rom all the shortcuts I had for apps on the start menu that were installed on the sd would have blank icons.
Also registry wizard already installed? genious guys, pure and simple genious. Word of advice though, since registry wizard won't recognize the AKU version it won't dissable some options that you shouldn't play with, namely on "TWEAKS 2" page "Taskbar Date/Time" be sure to uncheck that as it will be checked by default and if you apply that tweak the area where the clock is of your taskbar will probably get screwed up. I know of at least that one, I pretty much use all the other ones with no problems.
Anyways can't wait to play with the proper versions of these roms (I had installed the one with the broken TCMP, but before I said anything Faria had already noticed and was already reuploading the fix..... what a guy)

from the WM blog:
The Page Pool
Applications use RAM in two ways. There is code that runs, and there is data that is created while it is running. On a NOR device, the code can run directly from the ROM and not be loaded into RAM first. This process is called XIP (eXecute In Place). NAND devices can't XIP, so their code is loaded into RAM and executed from there. If you don't have a Page Pool, this code is loaded into normal RAM. The Page Pool is a mechanism to limit how much code is loaded into normal RAM. With a Page Pool, we can unload code that hasn't been used in a while and reload it later if we need to. We can't do that without a Page Pool.

Even after reading that it is still not clear what the paging pool is used for - can't understand why it increases performance!? Does anybody have a better description - didn't find anything when googling...
How I understand the explanation: if there is no page pool at all then all the started apps will go into RAM and reside there. With a page pool code that is "not needed" at the moment will be unloaded and reloaded (from NAND) later. But then - where is the performance boost??
Tried downloading about 5 times so far and it bombs out right at the end?
Is it just the amount of people trying to download it simultaneously

I'm no programmer, but it sounds quite a lot like the use of Virtual RAM back in the day of DOS and whatever the heck they called RAM between 640-1024K. The bigger the 'window' for swapping non-current data between RAM and a HDD, the better the speed performance.... I remember that there was also a king of tipping point, below which swapping was effectively one-way, and above which it was effectively two-way.
Regardless of how page pooling actually works, are there any guidelines or rules of thumb for page pool size versus free program memory after soft reset?
(While I'm not a "RAM hog", I do prefer more than less, as I live with MSVC, emoze, and sometimes a GPS app)

mmmhhh - let me guess - 1MB less PP means 1MB more free RAM...
But I still don't understand the sense of a PP - on a desktop the page file is just needed if you don't have enough RAM - it doesn't boost the performance, just let's you run more apps at once if you just have little RAM (BTW, yesterday I saw a PC with 128MB RAM which was running WinXP - unbelievable...)...

Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?

Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?
And which applications do you like?
C_shekar - I think you need some investigation which kind of soft user needs.
So let us post our vision of required soft preinstalled in ROM.
as far as I understand we taking about freeware.
My List:
1. Touch flo (if there are any possibility)
2. Dict
3. Alreader light 2\Hali reader
4. Total Commander Mobile
5. TCMP
6. Pdf - viewer
7. WM5-storage
8. Some sort of timer.
9. ICQ application (qip for example)
10. Gsplayer
11. Rar mobile
1. No RAM disk
2. 24MB Pagepool
3. TouchFlo
I think the ROM should stay clean, so the user can decide what apps he wants to add.
I think one can only add the HTC home tab thingie!
Cheers

no ram disk ??
man are you mad ?
for what reason you need all amount of RAM ?
Are you know that without ram-disk device SLOW DOWN ??
But I`ve agree to save some extra mem by lowering page poll. (I think 16 mb will be ok )
No, just leave the pagepool at 32 as I think it's neccessary to keep the Rom goes fast. No more software should be added I hope 'cause users can add them in later on. Just all the important fixes and patches. And that's all. Anyone want to personalize the ROM can do that by creating an extendedRom in their SD, is it, so just try to keep the version pure (one of the best exapmle is buzz 3.33). But, the ROMs that personalized before by certain developers are appreciated as well.

Oh i dont know that - i think that ram-disk is only for storage. thanx for info.
I agree. The upgrade rom should be a clean one so a person can choose exactly what software they require and will use. We must also remember that we all use our PPC for different reasons so there will never be a rom with software we all want or need.
Clean and Clear
Hello!!! Yes I think the WM6 should be clean version, if someone wants to install apps they can do so. The reason to keep the clean version is to make the device run faster.
Although there should be a clean version but also there should be a choice of software (seprately given). If need be people can install them on their Device.
Kind Regards
Jay
removing the extra applications will not give more storage
it will not give more memory
it will just mean that the rom part of ones flash is left more empty
some softwares are necessary...
because not all of Himalaya users are goood at play the phone, they need it quick and all-in-one.
may be we can cook 2 ROMs,one clean version of WM6 and one with extra applications

very very clean please
What I personally use from 2003 and 2005 ROMs is:
phone
contacts
notes
tasks
calender
SMS
activesync
camera
windows media
bluetooth for mono headset, gps receiver, audio over car radio (behaves like mono headset and mutes for phone or navigation)
connection manager
picture viewer
sometimes Word, wouldn't miss it
Never used:
games
download agent
file explorer
gprs on/off
internet explorer
internet sharing
modem link
search
Powerpoint
WM5torage
email
Very unwelcome: certificates
I do use all settings from the tabs Personal and System, from the connections settings I only use Bluetooth
But -although a contradiction to my wish for a very clean ROM- I do believe that not only I, but most of us do like some features like smartdial, TouchFlo, PDF, VERY LOUD ringtones and repeating alerts for notifications, missed calls, missed txt messages and so on. And localisation would be very welcome too.
Theoretically it would be best if either during the flash operation or at first boot after flashing it would be possible to make your own selections using some kind of wizard/script that would be intelligent enough to warn for example that the help files will no longer be available if you remove IE, that probably SMS will no longer be available if email program is not installed (I guess).

Ya but this is personal List of what you use, if developers starts building personal roms, it will be never ending story.
What I suggested is to build a clean rom, Hyman said the right thing. Build one with basic clean rom and the other with fully loaded and whoever wants which ever they can pick their choice.

Personally, I don't think so.
If one wouls want to install some software (common used, for example) he would install it in storage mem. And I could make it into rom instead.
If you don't want to use it - just don't use it
One day we would make a kitchen - and then all could make their own personal rom.
Personally, I can tell you that I'm going to release a clean and speed tweaked rom - once, and then I'm going to start releasing my personalized one.
It seems like we all get the answer now. One pure version and one with all modification that builder desires. No more discussion I guess

I wanted to give insight in how I use my Hima, it is by no means a wish list for a personalised ROM. (although volunteers are welcome to cook one for me ;-)
I hope others will give similar insight in their uses.
When I flashed to WM5 I thought I was using a clean ROM. It did come with Powerpoint and Exell, IMHO a waste of space. It didn't come with a working smartdial and it took me a full day to find a smartdial that works on one of my Hima's but not on another almost identical Hima. IMHO an awful waste of time unless you like to reinvent the wheel.
I've seen discussions in other threads about what they do/do not call a "clean" ROM. IMHO a clean ROM should offer as much basic functionality as possible. I believe Smartdial is one of these basic functions.
But every piece of software that you can find elsewhere, like Powerpoint and Exell should in my opinion be left out of the clean ROM, right?
A kitchen would be a good idea. A kitchen with a clear step by step manual that any noob can follow would be even nicer. Perhaps such kitchens were around before the ftp site closed, I'm only here regularly since a week or two.
I downloaded two files with the word kitchen in its name and unfortunately neither explained to me how to use it.

[ROM] (Phone+GPS+Vista GPS+touch)Thaihugo's shift age of reason and age of beauty

Hello,
I'm still working on the different sound topics, but here are my newest roms.
I call them age of reason and age of beauty. This is a kind of trial for the second one...
The point is that we need a rom to really use the shift possibility. We need storage space, real gps useage, and of course maximum ram.
This is the age of reason rom. The lightest possible rom, where you can add a lot of programs, more if you use UPX compression.
You need to flash the radio from the phone+gps rom before using this one.
What does it have:
42 Mb storage and 22 Mb memory free
WORK on WINMOB SIDE
All standard Winmob application (ie, notes, media player, sms, phone, gps)
Task manager to soft reset, kill process, etc...
Clear temp (as requested)
USB tools
A homemade program to switch the speaker when on call. This program is for my development my roms only, and it work as a service, so it cannot be killed by the OS.
There is a managment program to remove the service if needed.
WORK WITH VISTA
storage:
A network browser to access the vista HDD
GPS:
An automatic GPS redirection to the PC side
This program is GPS2Blue, and it is preconfigured. You just have to launch the shortcut in HTC debug tools, and setup vista to get communication.
GPS works on both side, so you can use it on Windows mobile too of course
A few words on this last program.
GPS2Blue is a program made by Paludour. You can check his website here:
http://www.paludour.net
He allowed me to add this program to my roms, as you must normally download the cab from his site. This way, I could put it preconfigured on our devices. Many thanks to him for that.
When you are connected with usbtools to vista, click on this gps2blue icon, and you can receve the gps on vista if you follow this guideline:
http://www.paludour.net/GPS2BlueFAQ.html#USB
Just click on the gps2blue icon when you have to do the PDA side of this tutorial, the rest is aleady done.
The link for this rom is here:

MD5: 4c31ba01b109e22cd77bc3da53220672
Mirror:http://www.filesavr.com/light_1
Now for the other rom, the age of beauty:
This rom is the same, with one little twist: there is pointUI pre-installed.
This is a test, as I don't know if this is a good way instead of installing it afterward. Anyway, you are good for some eyecandy.
You have to pay for this: you have only 37 Mb of sorage, and 9 (yes, nine) megs of free memory after reset. But the good news is that you can disable it, and still be using the rom. So you can choose when you want eye candy, and when you want to be serious. If it is requested, I might update this one.
The link for this one is:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/3zmtnyi2mjh/Full.rar
MD5:fe2a2d6592339c29c994e4a2e6638d1e
Enjoy and report here if you like it.
How to connect to vista side:
first, know the name of your shift. If you didn't change it it is SHIFT, otherwise type hostname in a command line in vista side.
then type services.msc and make sure the server service is started and set up to automatic if you want it to start every boot
Now type \\shift in your start menu. A windows must open, and you should see thinks, like Users, and printers. If not, don't worry, you can still go on. For more advanced users, it can be a good time to set up a share.
Now go on Snapvue side, and go to settings-connections-network plugin. First click on the "enable network folder" and wait for the reset.
Now, when reset is done, start usbtools to activate activesync. On vista side, make sure you are connected ( set up a partnership, or just click on connect whitout partneship. In this case, you will have to do it each time.)
Go back on Snapvue, and in network plugin click on New...
In remote path, enter \\shift\users if shift is your computername, and if you saw Users in the window on the second step.
Otherwise, you can enter \\shift\c$ to access the whole drive.
Click on map drive. Enter your username and your password (the one you use to login in vista)
Now, you can browse the pc using the network folder. You can add music to media player, browse pictures, wmv video...
You can even install some progs on vista side, but I don't recommend it. You might use it also as a data storage for SPB insight (my little baby) for example
thank you.

Thanks Thaihugo, this rom is really good and a lot of free memory and storage for programs. Only problem is that when I have Vista side open gps isn't working for me. Well it is working (satellite used about 4-10) but Satellite Fixed stays 0. When I turn off vista side Satellite Fixed is after a few seconds 5-7.. I have Windows 7 build 7000 installed on vista side and Light version on snapvue side

I removed automatic connection setup to save space. You need to setup your connection by yourself in settings-connections. Once done, it will connect automaticaly. Most providers can sen you a sms from their web site with connection settings.
I'm not sure you want to lose 3 megs of storage for this one time operation, do you?

If you want, you can just disable the today plugin, and you get a full working wm for when you want to be serious. And you just soft reset when you are just using it as an updated snapvue.
To disale fully pointui:
delete the shortcut in \windows\startup (start2) and disable the today plugin.
To reenable, recheck the today plugin.

You have to pay for this: you have only 37 Mb of sorage, and 9 (yes, nine) megs of free memory after reset. But the good news is that you can disable it, and still be using the rom. So you can choose when you want eye candy, and when you want to be serious. If it is requested, I might update this one.

It's pointless if you don't say which rom you want, and which site you can download from.

I must stress that your phone must be HARDSPL'ed in order to flash my ROMs. Also, read this post for updated flashing instructions.
THIS ROM IS ENGLISH WWE ONLY and don't forget to backup your various info (contacts, documents, etc). Users of Palm Messaging can backup their SMS messages by looking for "PalmMsgV001" in the windows folder. Unfortunately, reading this file can only be done with Palm Messaging, so copy/paste anything of importance before flashing.
Special note: Bluetooth file sharing now works GUARANTEED in all 2.5 and up ROMs, and remember that the "receive all beams" option in the Infrared settings is on by default, if you don't use Bluetooth don't forget to turn this off.
V3.2 Hermann Classic
Version 3.0 updates:
-Please refer to this post regarding changes.
-The stuff you know from Version 2.5 is still in, but with complete bug fixes.
-No more "BASE" or "Full" ROMs.
-Storage is low because ROM is XPR compressed for AltKeys.
-ROM is designed to work with toxic's Android UI packs (Not fully tested)
-Symbols SIP added in case Alt Keys does not work. This can be accessed via the "up" arrow beside the SIP keyboard icon when the SIP is active.
Version 3.1 update:
-Sped up image processing on the device.
--This boost in image processing brings a significant overall boost to the device's operation, including faster camera image capturing, JPEG viewing, and perhaps a boost to the 2D graphics rendering on the device (over 100 points boost over non-Hermann ROMs in SKTools graphics benchmark), making emulators such as MoonGBA able to play games like Megaman Battle network 95% speed (frameskip 1, no sound due to slow cpu)
-Fixed fatal Camera launching bug.
Version 3.2 updates:
-Hopefully I finally fixed the fatal Camera bug.
-Fixed missing "USB to PC" setting.
-Fixed Windows Live, am able to log into my Live account. (Don't forget to check your APN in "Connection" settings)

Old release news
Features in both builds:
Version 1
--Added single click side button functionality, customizable (default: camera)
--Registery cleaned up.
--Renamed "Storage Card" to "Mini SD".
--Enabled full screen option in Camera (it just removes the WM UI though)
--Palm messaging has been replaced with default MS inbox. Now SMS can be backed up or defaulted to 3rd party programs like Flexmail.
--Start menu has been optimized for speed. Because of the extra speed, 4 columns are introduced instead of 3, giving users less to scroll through and more content (and back to the normal speed).
--Red button functionality is full like WM6, including radio power off.
--xTask is streamlined into the OS as an EXT package. This program is your task manager, in Hermann Finger use this to intercept tapping the Start icon if your hardware button is dead.
--Both builds can be connected to Windows Mobile Device Center (tested on Windows7 Home Premmy 32bit). As I unfortunately cannot use Outlook, do let me know if that works.
Version 2 additions:
--For the first time ever, the Splash image when the phone is starting has been changed.
--Thanks to Big Storage, even though the ROM was compressed to XPR, it's fast and not using too much storage space.
--Pagepool is now 6MB, Fast is fast
--The Startup sound returns to Windows Mobile! Customizable, and can be disabled if a personal touch to your phone is unnecessary.
--Added Microphone AGC. Greatly enhances voice recording, and perhaps even phone calls.
--Added Clear Storage. Why Palm never had a software method to Hard Reset I'll never know...
--Added Keylock. It sometimes helps to lock the Green Button and the Start Button from turning on the phone. Funny, isn't it? At least on my phone.
--Taskbar icons modernized, adding Bluetooth display functionality
--Includes Arcsoft MMS 5.2.2.66
Version 2.1 additions
--This time Version 2.1 was cooked using Fjtorsol's kitchen. There are a few pros and cons, pros like working shortcuts, cons such as the inability to use network time (my V2 build could, but not 2.1). Note that Version 2.1 also has Fjtorsol's features.
--Some of Fjtor's features were upgraded, such as App service to 1.87.0.0, Arcsoft to 5.2.2.66, Sim Toolkit Svc to 4.93.0.2, Sim Toolkit UIPPC to 4.73.0.0, and USSD Service to 4.36.0.1.
--Like I promised, build 21889 has been tested for over a month and it's ready for use. This build was released in December 2010 from HTC, as you can see it's very fast and it totally smokes my Touch Pro. The \Windows\ folder loads in about 1 second, compared to Energy's ROM on my Touch Pro at 3-4 seconds.
--I decided to do 2 versions, a BASE ROM and a Consumer ROM, simply put, the BASE ROM is for users who want to install stuff themselves (like Windows Live), and the Consumer ROM is great if you want a lot of Microsoft services ready to use, such as Windows Live or Microsoft MyPhone. BASE ROM has a lot of storage available, Consumer ROM has 20% of that used up.
--Bluetooth file sharing is ready and it works, and you don't need to enable "accept all beams" in that Infrared setting. I have tested receiving a file from a Samsung SGH-D807 Simple Phone, all you need to do is "enable File sharing" in the FTP tab of the Bluetooth settings.
--Storage Card is the default name now, I was too lazy to change to MiniSD
--Version 2.1 retains Clear Storage and Microphone AGC, available in both BASE and Consumer ROMs.
--Both ROMs have Zip Mobile 2010 version 1.2.3.1.
--Pagepools are set at 6. Remember to change it depending on the kind of work you use your Treo for.
--Unfortunately, due to me using Fjtorsol's kitchen, the ROMs are compressed in LZX, I have no idea why my kitchen can use XPR at the same size Fjtor's does with LZX. So I stuck with LZX, which doesn't matter to Build 21889, because it's still fast
Fixes from Version 2 to 2.1
-Thanks to Fjtorsol's kitchen, shortcuts are no longer mysteriously deleted or cloned.
-Bluetooth file sharing used to be dead in Version 2. Fixed in Version 2.1, remember to enable file sharing in the FTP tab.
-
Fixes since V1:
-[Hermann Classic]Fixed "Phone" icon in Start Menu that pointed to nowhere when tapped.
-Deleted dead SMS tone setting that didn't work
-Added missing "Brightness" icon in Settings Panel
-Added Missing "Keyguard" icon in Settings Panel
-Removed Palm's simple Ringtone settings, enabling the more customizable Windows Mobile ringtone settings
-When mapping the side button, there was no icon. Icon now defaulted to Camera.
-Option+OK mapped to XHook.
Known bugs:
--Due to my dependence on VolServ, the Ringtone settings for "Phone: Known Caller" retains that bug all custom ROMs have, which doesn't matter what kitchen you use. A fix was to remove the registry settings linked to VolServ, but then half the system will not work. To remedy, simply select the ActiveSync settings, then back to Known Caller and you'll see the real settings.
--The Caps/Shift keys icon that shows up beside the little keyboard SIP icon is gone. I discovered it is Theme related. I fixed it at one point during the Real Power Button testing, and it did show up. I can't seem to redo that without killing some things.
--In Fjtorsol's ROMs, I was unable to get time settings from my wireless carrier. I have confirmed this to be a problem with the type of ROM used as a base, as my V2 ROMs were based on Palm's 2.30 ROM, which supported my wireless carrier's network time. Unfortunately, because I used Fjtor's kitchen, this "bug" carried over to my V2.1 ROMs. This is a problem if you use programs that utilize Windows Mobile's Cell ID location-based service.
--Theme was removed from Hermann Finger. [Hermann Finger] The HTC Black theme (originally for WM6.5.0)seems to work at first, but changing to a different theme and back leaves the bottom bar and other 6.5.3 icons missing. I consider the HTC Black theme as a one time gig, apparently, since I cannot edit the theme as WinCE cab manager needs to be registered before I can fix it.
--Random? [Hermann Finger] With the enhanced top Taskbar, sometimes (it happened to me while locked to 3G) when you turn on the Radio, the signal appears empty (as blank, 0). There still is a signal the same as your last level, and your network type (3G, Edge, GSM) will still be shown, and you can still make calls. Hermann Classic did not have this problem, which it actually had a much cooler feature, remember when you turn on the radio, and try to access the "Phone" settings, and the Treo will tell you "the Phone is busy, wait 15 seconds", well in Hermann classic, I observed it to not show the signal strength until the Phone is ready. Might not happen often, but it was really cool.
--No more Splash screen. The Hard Reset function (Hold Red Button + Reset button) may look blank, or glitched, but it still works. Apparently Palm never thought Big Storage was possible
--The HSDPA icon that displays when you are actively downloading on HSDPA is gone. Or rather, Palm's Dial Lookup was the original source. don't worry, when that 3G icon turns into a funny looking icon, you are still on HSDPA.
--Fixed. BASE has no rings, Consumer does. Only 3 ringtones? Apparently, keeping Dial Lookup, Active Call, and my mod to remove Palm Messaging keeps it this way, no matter how I tried to cook the rings into there. Don't worry, you can still add your own ringtones, preferably into the \My Documents\My Ringtones folder.
--Fixed via Fjtorsol's kitchen. [Hermann Finger] There is again 2 MS Office folders. Both work the way they should, but forgot to delete it as I had already uploaded the ROM...
--Fixed. Kept VolServ in the ROMs because it controls a lot more than just sounds. [Herman Finger] The following sounds seem to not work: MiniSD card insert and remove, and Charger connected and removed. It actually is controlled by Palm's Volume control service (the little pop-up volume window that open on the top left), which I had removed in Hermann Finger.
--Fixed from Fjtorsol's kitchen. [Hermann Classic] 2 battery bars. Tried automating showing the clock up top, but for some reason it doesn't like me
--[Hermann Finger]The ALT key symbols window still has the redraw bug, just use D-pad to select. I fixed that as well while working on Real Power button, and I admit, I forgot the change I did :/
--[Hermann Finger Consumer ROM]Input Panel shortcut is gone, which means you can't edit typing options
FAQs, How to's, and more
Q: So explain to me the Sleep of Death
A: Existent in some WM 6.5 builds, even for other devices, Sleep of Death occurs when you power off the phone either via software or the Red Button, and the phone cannot power on in any way whatsoever, power button, plugging it in, etc. Currently, I have not experienced this in Build 23563, but in Builds 21901/21915. This is probably solved by my battery polling customization, although if it persists, disable auto turn-off for either battery or AC, or you'll have to change your brightness setting due to Palm's Backlight bug. Do note that my Treo's have worked past their service life, and their batteries are less the capacity than they used to be.
Q: What is the Backlight bug?
A: Existent even in Palm's OEM ROMs, the backlight bug is when you have your brightness set to 2, sometimes even 3 (The backlight is rated by 0 - 10, 0 being off, and 10 being the brightest). The Backlight bug occasionally refuses to put the device on standby (more often when plugged into AC), or even turn off the backlight. This is a hardware problem because if you set your Brightness to 2, and put the device on standby when running on battery, you can turn on the device again if you toggle the ringer switch (the switch on the top of the phone). This is a persistent hardware bug, which existed on all the 4 Treo's I have touched so far. (it's how I turn on my keyboard-less Treo)
Q: Can you do ____ language?
A: All my ROM's support multiple languages (although I have never tried making ones other than English). All I would need is the Palm OEM ROM of the language that you want done, then we'll see.
Q: What Kitchen did you use?
A: I use OSKitchen Zero.
Q: Will you upload your kitchen?
A: As you may have heard, there's a ridiculous bandwidth limit on the wireless carrier I currently use (800MB). My kitchen folder reaches 2.02GB (size, not size on disk), and uploading that is now impossible. Even if I separate the parts into individual folder, it's still going to add up to much more than 800MB. So sorry, the idea of uploading my kitchen was only in the event I could not continue. Well, I've gone as far as completed
Q: What happened to Build 21915?
A: It had a fatal bug that would not load some programs, notably .Net CF programs.
Q: Build 21901 help! How do I get rid of that second battery bar?
A: Go to Clocks & Alarms in Start ->Settings->, and then tap that "more" tab, and then check "Display the Clock on the title bar in all programs"
Q: Why can't we tap the Start icon in WM6.5.3?
A: Basically, it's the fault of Palm's OEM today plugin "Active call". This plugin is responsible for the handling of calling-related features of the Treo, from the dialer skin, to the today-screen Softkey options, to the speakerphone activation, to anything that displays call information. Why it interferes with 6.5.3 is best explained in detail. As you may not have known, Windows Mobile is an interesting platform in one respect because of how highly customizable it is. The Palm designed OS is layered like this:
--- <-Palm Active Call Today Plugin
--- <-WM Today theme skin
--- <-Underlying OS
As you can see, Palm's Active Call plugin is covering the Today theme in who handles what the user touches. So when we click on the Start icon, it looks like we pressed it, but we didn't because Palm's plugin is designed for WM5/6, which has a normal softkey bar at the bottom. Their Left Softkey is overlapping the Start icon, so to the OS, we are pressing that spot on the UI, but Palm's plugin is intercepting what it launches by launching nothing, since it was programmed to not launch anything at those coordinates linked to the OS. This can be easily seen by tapping on the xTask icon, and then tap on the Start icon.
Q: So why did you make the Start menu faster and 4 columns?
A: Well, I was a big fan of that start menu layout changer I got here at XDA-devs, but it didn't work on our Treo's. I don't know why it doesn't work, as it works on my hx2415, but I set out to manually edit the Start menu myself. While I will maintain the secret of what I believe made it faster, I decided a 4 column layout was best because, with a 3 column layout, it takes longer to scroll because our screens are about 2.5 inches, which is really not a lot of real estate for the primary scrolling finger (our thumbs). So if you are wondering why it lags a bit, that's because you are seeing 8 full icons and 2 half icons, compared to only 6 in the 3 column layout, and the device scales the icons depending on their default size (program dependent).
Q: Can you take out ____ program?
A: Due to my lame internet connection, I can't be doing things that could break 1 person's functionality, while helping 1 person's desire. I try to do a ROM that works for the general user, and not for a power user like me (It's why I didn't see the SMS tone bug until later, because I didn't care for that :S)
Q: Huh? XPR compression?
A: ROM's are loaded onto a device in 3 types, a non-compressed ROM image, a compressed ROM image, and a Super compressed ROM image. non-compressed uses up a large amount of space, a compressed image (XPR) uses about half the space available to the Treo, and a Super compressed (LZX) image uses even less space. These of course, have their drawbacks. Uncompressed ROM images uses up a whole lot of space, but is quick to access the Windows Mobile parts. XPR is compressed to fit in a reasonable amount of space, and is a bit slower to access than uncompressed. LZX is tightly compressed, and while you use up even less space, the ROM is very tightly packed in that the CPU needs a little more extra time to read WM elements of the OS. An example is like this, between XPR and LZX, say you have a box, and you put things in it. If you stuff it with as much as you can to save space (LZX), you may have saved space, but trying to get things inside that box will take a little more extra digging. With a more tidy stuffing of the box (XPR), if you properly set things inside the box, accessing the things inside will be much quicker.
Q: Explain to me "Big Storage".
A: I made a graphic explaining this, but basically, Big Storage is the removal of the ExtendedROM partition that exists in the HTC devices during the Hermes era. The ExtROM is what holds Carrier-specific settings/bloatware that you see in the Palm OEM ROMs. This is a problem with Custom ROMs, because we use the "unbranding" procedure to delete the stuff in the ExtROM, but the partition itself is not deleted. This is where Big Storage comes in. Big Storage has no record of the ExtROM whatsoever, so it re-formats the rest of the available storage as one whole Storage space for the user to use. I have seen this have a great boost in speed with the Operating System, as the device no longer has to mount (and hide) another partition on the Flash chip. So far no other ROM besides my Hermann series has been able to do this.
Great to hear! looking forward to seeing how you get along =)
waiting for first beta release!
So, a little update, ironically enough because internet on my phone is down so I decided to use expensive tethering to let everyone know I'm still alive XD
I'm glad I decided to take a working keyboard from my good Treo and put it in the bad Treo, my repaired Radio antenna had to be re-repaired so now I can leave the keyboard on there (still did not get replacement keyboard). That gave me a chance to test the buttons on my WM6.5 build, and the "Alt" key works, and brings up the symbols list. Red phone button still does not work (don't worry, I do know why), also I realized the Phone Settings is still there, just need to re-work the shortcut to point to it. Still trying to solve the SD card problem, so now I need to raid Nav's post history lol.
Edit: Nav's post history needs to be searched by not just his posts, I even need to read if others replied to him. If anyone can help me out and remember or able to see what it is that causes the Sd card problem, I'd really appreciate it (my connection is timed -_-)
Hey guys, I got a great story to tell.
You guys might not know me very well, I mean, I rarely posted here before, but if I had to say something about me, it's that I'm not the type of person to ask help on how to do something, if I can do it myself. Well, last night, I tried and tried, and even dunked myself into bed and immediately fell asleep (narrowly escaping catching a cold because of no blanket lol), but I persevered, and now look what I have done!
That's right, build 23563! Better than Mietas' ROM because tapping the start menu works, but just like Mietas' ROM, closing Messenger with the lower right corner close button still freezes the program. And... since I have been using Nav's badly configured files (no offense Nav), the SD card bug remained. There was even the camera bug, and the WM player that never was. I didn't give up though, thanks to Mietas' discontinued ROM project, I have craftily taken his romhdr.bin and stuck it into my kitchen. I also realized why the Camera didn't work and why WM Player was gone. Now, I present to you, the first real working WM 6.5 Rom for our Treo 750's!
"Gee whiz mangatron, you went back in time? How is that the best working WM 6.5?" you say? Well, look here!
See that? It's the Palm OEM applications running! I can make calls, send TXT messages and recieve them, you can hang up calls and, you can POWER OFF the phone! Brightness setting via Fn+p works too! Yahoo! That's not it though! The SD Card can now be recognized, the Camera works, and WM Player is back again! Absolutely the best WM6.5 for our Treo's yet!
But there's still more. See, as much as a noob that I am, I hadn't realized until build 23563 on why the Palm OEM stuff wasn't running. You see, I already knew why Nav's ROM couldn't hang up or power off. Thanks to my older brother for testing this when he had my Treo, the today plugins "Active Call" and "Dial Lookup" are Palm programs, that, one or the other (or both combined) control brightness setting, hanging up, keypad dialer, speakerphone enabler, etc. PRetty much all phone functions were handled by these 2 today plugins. When Nav took them out, it killed his phone functionality. I knew that without these, nothing will work the way I want it to. I didn't do this alone. If it weren't for Nav and Mietas for trying before me, I could have never learned how to cook, and most importantly, I would have never had tried 6 months ago had I gotten a new phone then.
Now, I hope everyone understands why I didn't upload it yet (expensive tethering is the only way to safely upload without risk getting cut off). There are also other reasons why, namely, how I found out why build 23563 didn't have my Palm OEM's. You see, during the cooking process, I noticed I had a lot of bad lines in the RGU file for the Palm OEM APPS package. So everytime I flashed my rom, I didn't see the Palm today plugins because by default, the registry turned them off! So I installed SKtools, enabled them, and boom, working Treo. So, if everyone is fine with manually turning on these 2 plugins by themselves, then okay, version 1 here we go! Except, I need to tell more about this ROM. You see, because I took some .bin files from Mietas' ROM, my build is now slow like his. Well, it's not laggy I-want-to-freeze slow, it's just, think back to WM5. If you had the Treo with WM5 before, you'll know what I mean. When you tap stuff it would like peel or what I like to call "blink". The problem could be because I set the page pool to 4MB (known to save RAM, but slow down multiple program usage), so I will try with a page pool of 6MB. That's basically the only caveat, actually. The rom is a tiny bit slow, but if you can live with that, and want a real working WM6.5 now, then I'll see. I have planned to tether this coming Monday or Tuesday GMT +8 (that is, Hong Kong time), so who knows, I may even pull a Spiattie here and provide both a Classic (21915) and Touch (23563) versions!
Note to Roberto: Luckily, Keyguard can be disabled. But I have not installed S2U to see if that will lock on power down (even with Keyguard disabled, the Red button can still power off). Let me know if S2U can lock when the device goes to standby, right now I am so excited to have finally helped out XDA when it comes to the Treo 750!
good work! i'm waiting for classic version!
hey great work!!! is there anyway you can make your perfect working wm6.5 rom with wm6.5.3, its just that wm6.5.3 looks so awesome!!!!!! but more than anything thanks for your effort i think you are the only remaining chef for our treo, but there is still this problem of titanium i know that ytou just started and thats why you havent added it but, whenever you add it there may be some problems that you may need to deal with, still this is the best rom i have seen so far and i can live without titanium, oh and about the s2u i dont see any need to install it right now as the normal lock button is working, but still it looks pretty cool maybe we should just put the download link next to the rom, as some people may not like it
the biggest problem at either some people may not like an app, they may want more memory instead of the app, or it is a pain in the ass trying to update that app later.
and about the wm6.5.3 maybe could you leave the fonts as they are? is just that in wm6.5.3 when you open a list the letters are just to big also when you open a menu and as our treos screen is so small... maybe it could be wm6.5.3 with wm6.5 fonts for menus and lists
if pics dont show here are the links

Believe me buddy, you are not asking too much. My regret right now is that I cannot upload right now, and that if only I had done this 6 months ago Treo users wouldn't have had to wait for so long to have WM6.5 on our phones.
Some things I need to clear up, lol the reason why the Palm plugins "Active call" and "Dial Lookup" were disabled in my tests builds, is because Titanium overwrote their registry settings because, whenever Titanium is enabled, no other plugins can run on the today screen. So I had to take out Titanium for good, just so that the Palm plugins can run.
About S2U, you're right about RAM, WM6.5.3 uses up more by default (my suspicion is the Theme), so including it would probably make only 20MB RAM available lol.
and about the wm6.5.3 maybe could you leave the fonts as they are? is just that in wm6.5.3 when you open a list the letters are just to big also when you open a menu and as our treos screen is so small... maybe it could be wm6.5.3 with wm6.5 fonts for menus and lists

You know, I'm glad you asked me about this. This is controlled by the .tsk file and the .png images that make up the Classic Blue today theme. As long as I reconfigure the .tsk file (not sure if my WM5 skinning program can support WM6.5.3) and edit the images into a smaller size (should work, I did a little test and the menu now looks like just a slightly larger WM6 menu), it will be usable.
Really want to upload now >___<
well as long as it works fine, and has wm6.5.3 i dont really need titanium
Post #2 contains my changelog for now, as you can see I'm really working on the bugs right now. As of this moment, all bugs have been taken care of except the memory leak, but man I really need that keyboard replacement. It's tough always flashing via USB...
i have an 4gb micro sd but not a converter... -.- thats why i always flash via usb, i think it is safer and more easy to use
i cant wait to see the wm6.5.3 build its just so awesome!
posted through my WM6.5 build

A micro SD adapter, huh. Dealextreme.com has it for dirt cheap (with free shipping), although I had problems with the adapter. I tried my 16GB Micro SD with a more reliable adapter, and both builds are able to read it. Really cool how my projects have come along.
I also updated posts 1 and 2 with more info and teaser screens. Enjoy and Monday-Tuesday is going to be a great day! (hopefully Monday)
awesome, they all look so cool great work! XD
i have one quetion, the other devices with wm6.5 what do they use for calling, maybe in the titanium build it wouyld be possible to use that app
sent from my custom Treo build
YEEEEAAAAHH! Final bug destroyed (could not configure SMS tone). Expect release in several hours.

Hmm? I did not include Titanium in any build. It just wouldn't work (probably because I never looked into it an focused on the Red button more)
All calling related features of the Treo are handled by the Palm OEM applications, with the exception of SMS related features.
By the way, do you guys use MMS often? I just realized my ROMs do not have this capability (I never used MMS, too expensive). I could include an MMS program...
nah, i never use even sms, if needed i can download an mms app, so doint worry about it right now, most of us use this work phone for music and games (wich i think is stupid -.-) but anyway, i dont think we use it to much.
o and about the titanium maybe on another build, as the red button is working maybe the calling app that navs rom already has could be an alternative, but right now i cant wait for wm6.5.3 roms release!
An early christmas present for all
ROM's have been uploaded, posts 1, 2, and 3 have been updated. Enjoy, and if you can, donate, if not, hitting the Thanks button is fine I guess.
By the way, did you know that it's possible to have Manual Focus for the Treo's camera? Yes, it does actually work, and I'll show more later!
I forgot to add, do post here whatever problems you encounter. With as many WM programs as there are, I of course have no idea if they all work on my builds. I also do not have the Spectec Wifi card, so I don't even know if that will work on my builds. I am interested to know if it works.
geart work, thanks it looks so awesome, ill try them out!
