I thought that those Htc Dev phones were aready hardware unlocked?

Well, I sorta installed the RC27 in order to install cyanogenmod....But this not the point!I have lots of important content that I can't afford to lose!So I'm looking for a way to restore my phone back to normal!

Doesnt google sync your contacts/email/etc, can you get into bootloader or fastboot

Yes ADP's are factory rooted, so downgrading to RC27 was a little pointless.
Anywho your phone's dead. Your "important content" is gone, that's the risk you take when you flash your device.
Move along children, nothing to see here.

Well then, thanks for you fast replies, but I have one last question. Is there any way to restore it by modifying the hardware?Replacing something etc.?

Check craigslist for any HTC Dream, and swap the motherboard and other necessary guts with yours. You can usually find G1's for around $25 with a cracked screen. Which you don't need the screen, so that doesn't matter.

Yeah motherboard replacement doesn't look too tricky. Search for the thread on how to recovery from a brick in the development section, it has a step by step guide with pictures.

That's not really going to help him recover the data on his flash though.

if you have nandroid backups, your data will still be recoverable. if not, your out of luck

Did you got your phone working ??

need help recovering G1

okay i really need some help.
ive tried all the steps to recover my phone.
i get to the g1 screen when i power it up.
i can still get in to recovery menu.
ive tried to do a wipe.
please i need help.
ive also tried reinstalling rc29 with the original spl
but my radio is still 2_22_19_26I
PLEASE I NEED HELP!
or if there is a way that i can make it look like i never touched it then im still able to return it
so anything would help. links also
if you put the DREAIMG.nbh on your phone via bootloader it will reset the radio and spl to stock and everything else will be stock so that you can return the phone as though you never did anything to it
sweet. i guess i cant fix my phone. good thing i only got it 3 days ago.
whats a good thing to tell them when returning my phone?

if your phone is not messed up then there is no reason to return it. if you keep it at stock rc29 then it will update to 1.5 firmware within 72 hours supposedly or if you still want root follow these steps in this thread. this is the probably the most reliable way to root your phone, and since it is not as automated as some of the other threads, you might learn some things about your phone in the process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480

do you have a modified recovery image on the phone or were you able to get that far. if not just take it by where you got it and tell them you got an ota update then wouldn't boot up past the g1 screen

Looking for a little clarification on rooting

I am fairly new to rooting, but thanks to this great website and all your inputs I have learned so much over the past month.
I first rooted my G1 using the 1-click method which was great, but now my earpiece has blown I will be receiving a new handset next week. So I learned how to properly downgrade and install stock firmware for my old handset.
When I receive my new handset, I decided to take the plunge and root the traditional way for 2 reasons.. 1- to learn a different way and 2- its possible the security hole may be patched by then rendering the 1-click useless.
Anyway, after reading all the varying posts on how to downgrade/root/flash custom rom I am still left with a little confusion so hopefully someone can clear this up for me.
When actually rooting, I have seen methods to type various things in the telnet window, and another method to just rerun the .apk and select "protect root". What is the difference between these two methods? Do they both accomplish the same task of making a permanent root? One method actually said to download the JFreke rom to fix permissions to root, bo no other method mentioned that. Is that even necessary?
Also, I know that with Cyanogen Roms I do not really need to flash to "hard spl" if I decide to stay with cm roms, and cm recovery also allows the use of nandroid backup as well. The only other argument I have seen is that a hard spl would potentially allow someone to "unbrick" a bricked phone, but from everything I have read, most people have bricked trying to flash the hard spl.
If I am going to stay with cm roms, is there any real benefit to a hard spl other than increasing the brick chance? If I do upgrade the spl, am I correct that it would be done last, after a potential radio update (assuming my replacement handset does not come with the latest radio)?
Sorry for all the questions, and thanks in advance for your help.
This is the best guide I found.
I have done 4 phones using this method with only 2 minor differences.
1) I format the sd card using a microsd card reader instead of the phone.
2) when it says What To Do Now That You Have Root don't download any of the builds listed there, just download the latest cyan stable rom.
This is the guide hehe forgot to link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480
Oh and don't worry about swap or apps2sd partitions until after you root and verify that the rom is working with no problems, this will limit the number of variables in case you have troubles.
Thanks for the input.
So do you install hard spl according to that guide or do you skip that and just install the cm rom?
I love the auto apps2sd of cm roms. My phone is currently back on stock cupcake and I miss having all my apps on my 500mb ext 3 partition!
yea you need HardSPL. and use the recovery linked in the guide. Install cyan's recovery later.
This to me is the easiest step by step visual rooting process have done 3 G1 with full success. The newest G1 I had would not let me do the 1 click rooting method.

Yeah I figured the new handset would most likely be patched. What was the result when you tried the 1-click. Would the new phone just not let you install the 1-click apk?
One thing I might add is you can't brick your phone by flashing Hardspl. It's the "danger" spl that has the potential of bricking your phone. Just follow the traditional guide that fingerlickin provided and your good to go.
Thanks for the help!
Anytime.......
Nope sure wouldn't just kept telling me install aborted. I don't no why. It could be some kind of patch. But I went to old faithfull step by step you tube install. Its really a nice video. You can pause the video and root your phone right along with guy doing the video. he also gives you links on the side bar to all files needed in the rooting process.
oh I'm sorry, I actually have one more question.
After flashing the HardSPl, would there ever be a reason to revert back to the original g1 spl? For instance if I had to send a phone back to t-mo, would they know that I am using the hardspl if all I did was reload the dreaimg.rbh rc-29 downgrade, or does that also reflash the spl back to the original?
Yes you would want to unroot phone before sending it to Tmobile, they do not warrenty a rooted phone

You shouldn't ever have to go back. T-mo would prolly never check it. Many people have sent there phones in with root access and different things installed. But if you do get paranoid and ever have to do it, just flash RC29 and it will put everything back to stock.

I turned my phone in with root access and custom splash screen and they didn't say anything. You don't want to make it known that you have done anything to it, but they won't check. When they are sent in they just hook it up with jtag and reflash everything.

Ok thanks that is what I figured. I actually just unrooted my phone yesterday from cyanogens rom, but I never flashed the SPL (did the 1-click thing originally), but now that I am going to do the original method I wanted to be sure.
I can't wait for my replacement phone to get here next week, because using the stock cupcake rom sux!
Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave their input and helped me learn even more about the process! You all rock!

Really, thats music to my ears. I have often thought it would be a pain if something broke on the phone and I had to try to unroot it before I sent it in. uhhhh like a bricked phone
I work in an electronics repair company and I agree with supremeteam256 about sending your phone in rooted. Our techs don't check for tampering, they just plug it in and use the programs my department writes to test and reflash the devices. Of course our devices are much more complicated but the same NON-Communication between customer service and technicians still exist.
I think the biggest reason for this is because the techs just aren't interested in explaining the technical details to a customer service rep because all they ever get is "huh? wtf is a bootloader?"
Disclaimer:
I'm not claiming that HTC or TMobile will not check or notice that you have rooted your phone. Just illustrating that the repair techs don't want to talk to customer service anymore than you do and would rather just fix the phone and move on to the next one.

"HOME and CALL" buttons not working... what are my options

I need to update my g1, but my home and call buttons are not working. I tried resetting my phone as well (I need to sell it and need to take out my personal info) but it wont reset with cyanogen mod. Without my home button working I can access the installer either. Is it possible to install it from terminal emulator?
do you have adb set up on your computer? what exactly are you trying to do? and yes, just to be an ass, this is in the wrong section... there now no one else can tell you and hopefully you wont get flamed...

Why dont the buttons work? How can you sell it if the buttons dont work on it? I agree, they will not honor the warranty if it has custom software on it.

got wet, I can sell it for parts i guess on ebay. people still buy them like that. I tried setting up adb, but no avail.
just go to settings>sdcard phone storage>factory reset from there...and the only voided warranty from rooting is the software not hardware. But I guess it would be hard to prove that the phone isn't damaged cause of rooting...

Can't you download Quick Boot from the market? I don't really understand the scenario here, but if you need to get into recovery or bootloader mode that will do the job..
I'll give you £25 for it
Can't you get into bootloader by typing reboot-bootloader in the terminal? SU needed of course.
Moved as not Android Development.
if you want to send it in, it will have to be unrooted first. that is coming from my experiences will t-mobile. and what tutorial did you use to set up adb? i suggest using this one here

OK, I finally fixed adb and have acces to the phone.... What command can I type in to flash or wipe everything and basically return the phone to normal? (without all my info on it?) I tried fastboot -w but im not sure it works.

Plz Help! HTC One Stuck On Start Up Screen

I went to install the most recent up date. When it got done installing it started to reboot. It then got stuck on the HTC start up screen. I do not know a whole bunch on phones but did a little research and tried to recover and reboot the phone and neither worked. I would really like to find a fix that does not involve erasing all my data. I have all the pictures of my baby from the past year, from the time that he was born until now, and I would really hate to lose those. Thank you!

Maybe some more information... what ROM, was this a stock OTA? If you have custom recovery and are attempting to flash a custom ROM, then try to reflash...if you have lost your data already or to avoid data loss;try side-loading a ROM...can't tell you much from what I've read, but if you can hold power+ volume down simultaneously for about 15 secs you should end up in recovery, if you installed a custom recovery; e.g.Philz, TWRP, CWM...then you'll pop up there....
It is safe to say that if you don't have any of these custom recoveries then you'll need to use the RUU found in the Dev section....

I am sorry, I am completely stupid when it comes to phone. I know that I have not done any customizations. It is not rooted and would not have a custom ROM, not quite sure what that is. Everything should be stock. So what would I have to do to do the option that you have stated? I apologize for my lack of knowledge.
does your pc recognize the the phone when you plug it in? you could try extracting the data like stated before, but you're not rooted so that'd be a problem. an ruu would be your best bet, even though you'll lose your data. I HIGHLY suggest creating a dropbox and backing up your photos, it has done wonders for me.

It recognizes it to an extent. My computer will ding recognizing that it is plugged in but since it does not go past the start up screen you can't get into the phone storage. I do have a dropbox but with the thousands of pictures on my phone it unfortunately only stored a month or so of pictures. I am not so much worried about the phone, as I have insurance on it and can get it replaced. Just really want the pictures. When looking online I had read something about unlocking the boot menu and downloading a ROM I believe. Do you know anything about that and if it would work for me? Mine gets stuck on boot screen occasionally. Sounds weird but hold the phone drectly up to a light bulb and try to reboot the phone. This works for my particular problem. Not sure why but it does.

Hold power and vol-down together until it reboots into bootloader. Connect to USB and select 'fastboot' on the bootloader menu. That should get you to fastboot. From there, you can HTCDEV unlock the thing (in all likelihood).

Can't get back to stock

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right thread or not, and I do hope that I'm not wasting anyone's time. However, I have searched and searched and have gone through an insane amount of trial and error to no avail. I have just recently purchased an HTC One M8 for Sprint and the lcd underneath the glass got cracked when it fell and so, I assumed that I'd take advantage of the Advantage program, and all seemed well, except I had previously unlocked the bootloader using htcdev and have been running stock rooted with TWRP recovery. I've tried so many methods of getting back to stock, at least enough to argue with HTC into fixing my screen, since it has no bearing on hardware. I'm now s-off with a relocked bootloader and root, and I'm lost. I've trying to use RUU files to recover my device, but everytime, I get a bad zip file. And when I tried flashing the firmware anyways using adb it looked exactly the same, in fact the only thing different is that TWRP was gone and booting into recovery simply got me a picture of a phone with an exclamation point in a red triangle. I don't know if they're corrupted or if I'm just dumb. I apologize for any inconvenience. Please help, I've just spent 650 dollars on this phone and I'm out of money. Thank you for your time and any suggestions you may give, I sincerely appreciate it.

did u do a backup prior to rooting? if yes, restore backup & flash the stock recovery
if no, RUU is your best bet. make sure you're extracting the 0P6BIMG.zip from Sprint_HTC_One_M8_1.54.651.10_RUU.zip using 7zip, to your ext sd card, then boot into bootloader
u can also use the older Sprint_HTC_One_M8_1.54.651.8_RUU.zip which has a exe to flash from pc
Thank you. When I attempted flashing the stock recovery, I'd gotten the red exclcmation screen. And when I try using 7 zip on the actual 0P6BIMG.zip it says zip is invalid, is this just normal?

red exclamation screen is stock recovery....no, you can't open 0P6BIMG.zip, it's encrypted...just copy to ext sd
Wait. So flashing stock recovery did work then? I feel, really foolish if thats the case. I was only wondering about it because I did not see any text up top. But, thank you so much! If that's it then I'm done. Now to send it off and convince htc to fix it. Thank you

When you use HTCDEV you void the warranty and they'll most likely charge you to fix it since you literally gave them the info about your phone to unlock the bootloader. Had a previous experience like this.
