HEY! Can't get adb to boot into recovery? Try this! - Droid Incredible Android Development

Follow the official method posted everywhere on this forum, I won't get into that part.
But if you've been doing all your little tricks like pushing the card in and out, or waiting for the windows chime, and it hasn't worked... stop and listen up!
Look at your phone while you're waiting for the chime. Don't do anything yet, just look at the screen. Right before windows does the sound you'll see the screen flicker. Did you see it? ok good.
When I was trying this everyone said the reconnect sound would happen before I got into the screen with the ! Triangle. Mine always happened after a couple seconds on that screen. Also, I noticed the screen always flickered when windows disconnected from the phone.
try this:
when you're trying to get your phone into recovery do the 10 minute video method, and when you see the screen flicker immediately push the sd card in. This was the only way I was, or am able to get the phone into recovery. I was able to do it successfully on 2 different incredibles this way. I used a 16gb card from the moto droid, and the 2gb PNY from wal-mart successfully on both phones.
Please don't dowse me with gas and set me ablaze! just trying to help. Never said it was a final solution, just hopefully helps someone.

Yep worked for me too, this method has been updated in the unrevoked teams rootwiki.

Yep, I count from the boot vibrate and insert the card @ 7 seconds or when the scanline breaks for a second -- whichever comes first.
It's a simple rule that makes the whole process run smoothly, which is more than I could say when I started trying to root

Once again... No such luck for me. It was so much easier the first time i did it lol.

This has been the only method that has worked for me in the last week or so, and it has been very reliable. Usually get it within 5 attempts at worst. I have had success on only one pc, however, which is strange. I can move the usb to another pc after I get recovery and it works fine from there. This may just be coincidence, but it might be worth trying this method on more than one pc. YMMV.

PLEASE HELP!!! Wont Boot - Red/Green/Blue Screen

Im really really hoping that someone can help me here
It started this morning around 10:00 or so - I took my phone out to check my messages, everything is working fine. I lock the phone and put it standby (power button) and *surprise*, it locks up and wont come out of standby
So i just re-set it (like im forced to do 20 times a day) and instead of booting it went straight to this red/green/blue screen. At the bottom of the screen it just says "Serial" but doesn't actually give a serial.
I instantly thought it was bricked, so i removed the battery and left it out for a few mins. Then i put the batt back in, and it booted normally. I used it throughout the day with no problems.
Fast forward a few hours and it does it again but now it wont boot at all (ive reset the thing like 100000 times in the last hour ive been working on it).
WTF is going on?? Im really really hoping that it isnt too screwed to fix
The last program I installed was the SPB pack, but that was over a month ago, and i use the phone every day, multiple times a day.
Oh, and to make things worse i was planning on relying on my TomTom tomorrow
and the text on that screen says:
Kais1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLID-8
And at the bottom it just says "Serial" but none is given.
This blows
Have you recently tried to flash your phone? Have you ever? If you never have flashed it or attempted to use Olipof's app, then take it to the store and demand a new one.
Do you see "USB" instead of "Serial" if you connect your sync cable to your phone when in the bootloader?
If so, I would download the latest carrier-branded rom and flash it to your device. As long as the rom is designed for your device, then you do not need to do anything special prior to running the file from your PC.

I have never flashed it but i have spilled water near it (on the counter, the phone got wet but that was months ago and has no relation to this).
Can they check if it has been wet before?
When i plug it into my computer it says USB instead of serial. Should I try to re-flash with an updated rom and see if it fixes it or just take it in?
If you find me on MSN IM ([email protected]) we can run a diagnostic & see what the problem is.

Thanks, ill give you a buzz.
I need to finish and email a few things first (shouldnt take more than 30mins).
Actually, ill just message you tomorrow or something.
Ive been really busy this week.
well did you get it fixed? what did you do?
Yikes, that happened to a friend of mine, but he flashed his and then had to reflash it. I think there is a place on the back under the battery that they use to tell if it's been wet. I would take it back, even if flashing it fixes it, you don't want it to happen again.
oh and it doesn't mean serial like a serial number, it is a serial connection.
I havent been able to get it fixed.
I think ill try to flash it this weekend and see if that fixes it
You'll only make problems worse if you reflash. I've analyzed the MTTY output you've sent me & you have a bad NAND storage blocks.
You need to follow the directions I sent to your email account via MSN IM.
DO NOT REFLASH UNTIL YOU'VE TAKEN CARE OF THE BAD BLOCKS!!!
this happened to me and someone else in XDA a while back. I saw his thread (link below) and then PMed him. I will copy / paste our PMs:

Although its unfortunate what happened to you, I'm really grateful of all the troubleshooting that you've done before me, so I know what works and what doesn't. Interesting to note that I have had the Tilt since the day it came out, and never cooked/ flashed my rom. I have been using the Tilt rom the whole time with no problems. Otherwise I'm a huge power user and have a ridiculous amt of software installed.
So after everything was all said and done, did you end up just replacing the device? Thanks again man

Anthony,
Yea I went ahead and replaced it. No matter what I did to reflash the original bootloader, and flash the original rom, I always ended up with that same problem. Did you notice that if you can't get it out of the bootloader, but you connect it to your computer, and while it's connect, you soft reset, that it boots? Just curious. that's what happened to me. Either that or I would have to yank the sim and battery, then try.
My tilt was working fine for about a month with a flashed rom, up until I started installing gobs of software on it. Just a thought. If I were you, I would get the device replaced. Especially if you've never flashed a new rom on it - it definitely should not be doing that.

My computer has been broken for a month or two. To answer your question - I haven't been connecting it to anything other than an AC outlet. Anything installed in the last couple months was installed OTA... I usually just obtain a CAB by downloading it directly onto my device.
Also, its weird but sometimes after I drain the batter with the RGB screen then recharge it (this process takes about a day) then hit the reset button, it will actually boot correctly. I am on the third time this has happened. It was bricked for a couple days, then after a combination of charging / depleting got it to boot into windows. Then it happened again, then again.
As long as I don't restart the phone it will stay in windows... If I restart then I lose it for a day or so. Interesting to note that since this has happened, phone calls connect, but I can't hear the other party and they can't hear me.
Also, I use the mini usb out to a 3.5mm stereo jack to stream shoutcast into my car stereo while driving. Last week (at the onset of my problem) the music was playing from the Tilt's speakerphone, and not going through the headphone jack as it normally would. A restart fixed this, but when it happened again a day or so later, the next restart is what got me to that boot screen for the first time.
One of us should post this in the forum...

And just an update, I never sent back my phone or did anything as far as bad blocks go. I just let the battery drain and booted it right up and now it works perfect. I have since installed a few cooked rooms and radios and have had no issues since. This RGB screen was isolated to just those few days that we were talking about in the PMs.

Umm... GOOD FOR YOU!!!
I had him perform a diagnostic & it reported HE HAS A BAD BLOCK! So unless you're psychic or can be sure that every problem with Boot Loader is the same as the one you had, I suggest sticking to what you know.
BTW, search the CURRENT threads, in the KAISER forum, & you'll see I've helped a few dozen people with this & similar issues.

Well, this has happened to one of our phones. Can you just post the fix here instead of requiring the email/IM rotuine?

FINAL ADB SOLUTION: For those who couldn't get ADB with Recovery

1. Install HTC Sync 2.0.25 onto your PC (it came with your phone) (maybe the custom driver works but I haven't tried it yet)
2. Power off your device
3. Remove the battery
4. Plug in your USB cable
5. Insert your SDcard (any kind, it doesn't matter the type, i have 6 different cards and class associations in my possesion and have rooted all of my co-workers DI's today using all 6 cards for proof of concept, 9 phone total [Everyone wanted Wireless Tether)
6. Insert your battery
7. Hold Vol. Down button + Power button
8. Start and loop (you can start this before now if you wish, just has to be before entering recovery)
9. After the phone scans the sdcard choose "Recovery" and press the Power button.
*10. SOLUTION: As soon as the white screen appears just casually (don't be a speed demon) click IN & OUT your sdcard and continue to do so (keep clicking it) when the black screen with triangle appears. You will be listening for the last windows chime that identifies the USB has registered. But, you want to stop with your last sdcard click IN just before the last windows chime is sounded through your PC speakers. You might need to do this a couple times just to get familiar with the timing of the windows sounds on your computer system. Those phones that don't have to do this and was rooted first have a much earlier timing of when the Exploit is active.
11. Now go get Rooted using the steps on the first page of this post.

Seriously , this is the EXACT same steps that has been posted numerous times before. When you speak of a Solution as something Final it SHOULD NOT involve trial and error steps that require timing or just *luck*.
What a waste of a post and thanks for im sure getting peoples hopes up.

Yes you run the loop but not necessary to run in a loop. Yes it is about timing and similar posts have been made but I think I've written it with more detail.
These precise steps worked with the exact timing on 8 DIFFERENT phones yesterday. If its not working for you then perhaps you don't know how to follow directions well.

You know, just because it worked for you doesn't mean it will for others....
I CAN follow directions well, and I can't get it reproduced. (though it may be because I'm already rooted?)
Just keep clicking that card in your own intervals after the white screen and you will get it. With my own proof I can contest that there is a BIG misconception that this is only achieved during the White screen. NOT TRUE!!!
Those steps are what I experimented with trying to root my own DI and it worked. I was not convinced I'd get it to work on other phones since It's been days and countless hours trying to get mine to connect to ADB in Recovery. So, one of my co-workers let me try it on his phone with his different card type, and one co-worker after the other, success! The root I did on MY phone was with an sdcard I bought that came with some of the phones (SanDisk 2gb). I didn't get a free card from VZW. I had FASTER success with this card of all 6 cards I've rooted with. It took longer with the other cards, class 4 PNY, and off-brand class 6 cards. With the 2gb SandDisk class 2 it works on the first try for every phone I've tried.
Did you have HTC Sync installed as your active driver, I really can't say if the customer driver works as I haven't tried it myself? My laptop is the latest Sony VAIO F-series with Core i7 with Windows Ultimate x64. In Device Manager, while in HBOOT my phone only showed up as Android 1.0 and as HTC Bootloader.

No, and if you want to be in tune with the FINAL SOLUTION, your chakras must be aligned with Lady DI and her mysterious ways. I recommend balancing her on your head while you sleep for a fortnight, and then comes the sacrificial goat!
Seriously OP, I followed the last CARD CLICK prophet's advice and now my card mushes into lock--the DI just ain't built for the kind of abuse frenzied insert/ejection creates. I respect that you're good at what you do, but as others have found, teaching timing with http very difficult, at best.
I installed root by using an old laptop with XP... I had one point installed the HTC drivers. In this case, I had unistalled the HTC drivers and the HTC sync driver. Now I only used the SDK usb.inf drivers with the modified line for HTC incredible.

OP, can you get us a dmesg of you hitting the timing with your method? I want to see how it reacts to mounting/checking the sdcard devices more than once in recovery boot. I think good dmesg logs would help us all figure out what's going on here . . . .

It depends on how quick you insert/remove. It takes anywhere form a 1/2 second to 1 second between the initial "Slot changed from 0 -> 1" to where the card is actually mounted. If you click too fast, you never that that "mount" so you'll never get root, since it seems like the "mount" is actually causing the error we need. If you slow down your insert/remove to a slower pace, you'll get numerous mounts of the sd card. This might increase your chances of getting root because you're mounting multple times, but it makes the mounts more random then precise timing, and unfortunately, to get our error that we need, the read needs to happen at a percise time. You've seen the dmesg that was posted by 'mite.
THANK YOU OP! Worked for me :-D

Yeah, and I'm still wondering why he was so 'elliptical' about explaining what was going on there. I still can't figure out if it's the mount process or the mounted card that triggers the adbd event, or if a delayed sdcard process simply pushes adbd start into the recovery window, when commands such as 'adb shell' can be received by daemon for a split/few seconds. Would be nice to hear his explanation of what system events are occurring outside of what is logged in dmesg. The OP says mount event can complete in recovery/black screen, you say sdcard mount must complete before black screen, that's a big diff.
I wonder if it's possible to create a host-side script that reads dmesg, watches for card mount and triggers 'adb shell' at a much faster rate than a simple win shell 'loop'. That would be killer, and would eliminate all need for card insertion timing, IMO.

I don't think so. Don't have the devices in front of me right now, but I believe that the phone is disconnected from the PC (that first do - do) before our window of opportunity, which means the pc is not communicating with the phone at all. So if (big if) I am correct, nothing local to the PC can be done to initiate anything AT THE TIME that we need it to.

(never get any free time it seems) I'm been trying to check in with you guys as often as I can. It's brutal today because we have Maintenance tonight throughout the morning.
This is what I found by myself to work for me after trying for 3 days originally.
Say what you will about the OP, but the timing is key and his post did help me out. I've tried tons of cards, every method out there and had no luck, until now. So for what's it's worth, this post was much appreciated.

For developers. Root Info. Hope this helps

Hey,
I have been trying to root since the minute the process was let out publicly with no luck, until this morning. I have been through each thread over and over and finally found several things that made it work. After completing the task and going back over everything I tried. I found out the following and I would bet good money it will work for any one.
1. I left my phone plugged in the whole time. No usb cord inserting
2. I had it set to disk mode under pc connection in settings.
3. I used the 2gb card from verizon. Did not erase it. Don't know how it was formatted and don't believe it matters.
4. Made sure the HTC driver was working. This was done by having phone plugged in while in normal operating mode. To verify this once you hear the usb sounds in the command window at the C:/whatever/tools prompt type adb devices. It should come up with a serial number or such.
5. This will sound odd, but several of the methods talk about the screen flicker and not many talk about a sound the phone makes when it loads the sd card. That sound is real and audible if you put the phone to your ear. try it when you turn your phone on. You can hear it. That sound is the key. Try it by starting your phone normally and put it up to your ear. You will hear it.
6. Ok, if your phone is recognized by adb and you can hear the sound you have all you need. Make sure you have the necessay files downloaded to your tools folder.
7. With your phone in normal operating mode, shut it down. You need access to your battery and your sd card so the back needs to be off.
8. Pull the battery and unclick your sd card, hold Vol- and power. The phone will start and try to load the bootloader and leave you at the screen where you can select recovery.
9. Start Loop.bat
10. Press Vol - to select recovery and press power. move the phone close to your ear with your thumbnail on the sd card. When you hear that sound, immediately click in your sd card. The phone will goto the black triangle screen. The phone will then go through it's usb detection and when you hear the connected sound, you will get the error message. This may take 15-30 seconds. It took me 2 tries the first time, but now I have gotten it everytime I have tried since.
11. type in adb devices to verify that your in recovery.
12. Use your favorite method from here. The xda method is the one I used. Everything works fine. Wireless directly to my IPAD.
I think if I made a spread sheet of all the methods, sd cards and timings, we would find out that this is usually the thing that works. You can use the clock method, but I guarantee the right time collates with the cricket sound which collates with the screen flicker.
Anyone else smart that cares to look at this may be able to figure a way to streamline it even more.
Rod
sorry buddy but this old news we all knew about the audible sound, most people tried clicking in the sd card at that point, others tried plugging in usb at that point, buts we all knew about the sound and tried different methods to get it to work. personally i tried your method and it didnt work before i actually rooted. the method i used, envolved a linux live usb flash drive, linux live sd card formatted, and the tail messages, worked everytime the first time, if i missed the first time i had to restart the entire process. atleast now you are rooted

I hear what you're saying, but we shouldn't stifle discussion that could lead to a more reproducible method, either. Maybe this doesn't warrant a new thread, but whatever.
Anyway, I had tried several of the other methods before, maybe 20-30 times, but nothing worked. I tried to time it with the click sound a couple times before, and it didn't work, but I thought I'd give it another try, since OP mentioned he got it to work with the stock 2GB SanDisk card, and that's all I have.
This time, I got it on the second attempt. My reflexes were a little slow, so it was probably more like a half-second after the click sound that I managed to click in the SD card. I haven't attempted to get back yet, so I don't know how repeatable it is.
One thing that may or may not be worth trying for others is that right before I got it, I uninstalled HTC sync, installed the bootloader drivers from the unrevoked site (can't post URL since I'm a noob).
Then uninstalled them (check "delete drivers" when doing so they won't auto-reinstall), reinstalled HTC sync, and finally reinstalled the bootloader drivers. I did the last reinstall because the device wasn't showing up when the phone was in the bootloader menu w/just HTC sync. It's unclear if any of this made a difference, or if I just got lucky with my timing this time.
When I was booting into recovery and pushed in the SD card, very shortly afterwards, I got a balloon in the bottom right that said it was installing the drivers (again? is that expected?). After that, rewt!
Oh lord, if I never saw another one if these threads, I could die a happy man. They're about as useful as alchemy, phrenology, perpetual motion machines, astrology, cold fusion, x-ray specs, etc etc ...

I wanted to see who was pretentious enough to think that their hare-brained scheme for rooting needed a new post, why they thought their experience could possible impact developing for the Inc, or what could possibly justify tacking "for devs" on the title of their post--as if they succeeded in making a secret club of a thread by doing so.
If he/she really wanted to help devs, they might have PM'd the guys involved with Unrevoked first, or joined their IRC channel, rather than clogging up the forum with another rooting thread. Honestly, there's enough going on now to think of others' purposes here before your "eureka" moment. Too bad I had to bump this thread just to respond.
Why be so mean? The more discussion on obtaining root the better I would think. Maybe this topic was not helpful but another one someday might and if people like the rude folks bashing the OP in this thread make others afraid to post then we might never get a reproducible method.
The sooner we get a reproducible method the better, because that means more folks to test and a wider user base for ROMs. I dont think a developer would spend too much time on a ROM for a device that they do not own and feel only a handful of people would have access to.

Why be so mean? The more discussion on obtaining root the better I would think. Maybe this topic was not helpful but another one someday might and if people like the rude folks bashing the OP in this thread make others afraid to post then we might never get a reproducible method.

You call it mean, I call it strongly discouraging more speculation on a topic that already has a dozen or more threads going. As you can see by the proliferation of more advanced thread recently, most have moved on from trying to root, which common sense would tell one is caused by most having figured it out.
Maybe everyone has figured it out, maybe not. I imagine if you started a thread and asked who was still trying you would get several folks respond that they were. Nothing indicative of the entire population but just saying.
Edit: I just saw your avatar and then your use of such excellent gramar and vocabulary above. Did you make your own lingwo(sp) robot?
This thread has turned into a flame fest against the OP (since pretty much the beginning of it). Thread closed.

[Q] I think I've killed it!

I ripped my SD slot out a few months back after getting a card stuck in it, I threw the Nook in a corner in disgust and left it there,
I've tried to get it back up and running over the last few days, I've charged it fully over two days using the wall charger but it refuses to boot - I have nothing at all displayed. when i plug it into my PC I hear the noise it makes when a usb device is plugged in but that's it - nothing..
So with all the methods of restoring it need the SD slot..I guessing it's a gonna??
Any ideas??
Could try to convert back to stock. There is a 3 finger method of restoring your nook back to stock. You can find the link here in XDA right here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461172
Then you can take it back to B&N for a replacement if its still under warranty. Don't be so hardcore with losing on game-mode next time
I tried that last night but will try again with a fresh head ....
Nope..not having it, Tried everything now, using the three finger method brings nothing up on the nook screen at all - totally blank although the pc ssems to respond by making a couple of bleeps so assumed this was akin to the nook being turned on , tried it eight times and nothing..I really do think it's dead...
There is a program in the sdk (/tools/ddms) that allows you to see what is on the screen (and take screenshots). I believe this pulls from what the system is pushing to the screen (not what is actually on the screen). If that is the case, you can hit the power button like you normally would to bring up the lock screen, refresh using the application and see if it is pushing anything. You'd have to be quick, because if the NC is in standby, it won't show anything.
Also, you may want to try pulling some logcats to see what is going on.
I think the nook should be unplugged from the computer when trying the 8 failed boots. Also make sure to hold down the power button at least 8 seconds to make sure the nook is really off.

Can't seem to get the pc to see the Nook, it asks for OMAP3630 driver??
DDms can't see the nook ..
tried the 8 failed boot method...
All is not well

PM me... I can either fix it and send it back... or perhaps we can work out a price to buy it from you.
I have the same problem. The only way I could get it to recognize it was by holding power for 8 seconds and then would go away after a ssecond or [email protected]

Thank you for the offer but I've bought another and might as well keep it for spares, the postage to the states and back alone would cost what I've paid for the replacement.
Or you could tell me how you would fix it ;-)
What I would wind up doing depends a lot on what is on it already, and what methods were used... first thing I'd do is modify ROM's to ensure mmcblk0p8 was seen as sdcard... then go from there...
I wish I could give you a definitive "Do this, then this, and finally this" type of answer... but there are so many variables in place there's no way I can without knowing more of what is there...
If you have a custom ROM on it... go to playstore and get adb wireless

KF Hd 7" stuck in start screen ( I am so freakin lost)

I know nothing of Bricking/Unbricking... Rooting or anything. I have been researching for 3 days now. I know as much now as I did then all of zip!! I cannot get past the on screen. I have done the 20 second poewr button push for up to 5 minutes. I have talked to Amazon support and have been told Im pretty much SOL. I miss my kinde and I am not ready to give up. I have seen others have appreared to be in worse situations with this issue than I am so I am hoping for some assistance.
Every time I look into KFU and understand it it doesnt download right. Almost everything says it cant work on my computer. I have downloaded several versions. I feel screwed. Is there hope for this? all the apps for unbricking and rooting that i have downloaded have been for nothing. I would really appreciate some mojo and super geek help please.

First try and put it into recovery by holding down the volume up until a screen comes up saying to reboot or restore. Also, give me some background info. on how the kindle stopped working.
Is a definite must do. I have an appt I have to leave for in a minute so as soon as I get home I will def take care of the background info and the volume up try. Thank you. I will most assuredly appreciate your help. :highfive:

No problem
catching up
Hi again... SO I did the volume up trick until my fingers started to shake. Nothing happened. I did it with the kindle attached to the computer and with out the usb tethered to anything. I did not try it straight off the wall plug tho. Nothing ....
Background. I have had the kindle less than a year. My 8 year old has been stealing it a lot the past few months trying it say is hers ;0 thats ok. Shes been playing games like bakery story Dragon story fashion world and temple run etc... she uses it for the calculator and reading programs. She also uses it for netflix. 5 days ago she watched netflix until the battery gave out. She plugged it in and waited a few minutes and it wasnt coming back in. She told me about it... I looked into everything I could think of. I tried everything I could find. I have downloaded (to my computer) a ton of root and unbricking programs. Nothing makes sense and everything says theres parameters missing. I called kindle. Support took me thru every step I had already tried (power button charging different ways killin the battery all the way doing different things etc) The only two things I see now are a huge battery in the middle of a black screen that has a very small red portion to it or the beginning screen that stays put with the words having the glowy part run across it over and over again... thats all I know for sure. IF theres any information you can help me with I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

You might need to get a factory cable. I have to get one because mine won't start up anymore either.
Hi lisa
First off Don't Panic!!! Been where you are about 2 months ago and couldn't/hadn't flashed/used from etc etc before in my life.. but my kfhd was stuffed but the sounds of things similar to you.
The volume up trick will only work once you have 2nd boot working btw.
Go to the 7' android development section of the kfhd forum and read a few threads around getting something called second boot loader.. it actually really simple and very simple to do (as long as you do follow it EXACTLY).. I did get a factory cable to assist this process, and you may need one as well, but I have read that several people have now worked out how to do it without. (Read all the thread about second boot loader there's a lot but its worth it) factory cables are only cheap at worst case..
I'm sure someone will direct you to exactly the link on the xda forum you need shortly, everyone was amazing when I initially stuffed up.keep smiling and as I said don't panic!!

Does your Kindle take a charge at all do you know or just always the same screens no matter how long you charge?
3 in one
1st querant Do you buy them on amazon? can i get one closer to home? Is there a price range I should look into?
2nd querant Ill look but be warned that my inner geek has had meltdowns over all of this. Its over my head. I just kinda bug eye and try not to get stupefied.
3rd querant No it will not charge at all.
Thank you all and please be patient with me.
I don`t know if the charging has the same issue as the first gen, it required a running system in order for the battery to charge if it ever became flat. Here`s my suggestion plug it to your pc for several hours set your computer to not sleep and leave it, if you get lucky it will eventually boot good luck. It should not need unbricking by the way.

If you have not done anything to the device to cause this ie: root, custom recovery, flashed anything, then it sounds like you just have a hardware problem. Something went wrong that should not have and would be covered under warranty. I WOULD NOT mess with anything involving root or a factory cable or 2nd bootloader. If you do not know what you are doing when it comes to those things then you could potentially do more harm than good. Did you buy it on amazon? You said you already called amazon, call them back, they will replace it, even if you didnt buy directly from them.. Sometimes the people that answer the phones for amazon are idiots. Just call until you get someone who is helpful. tell them exactly what happened, it died and won't come back on. Don't mention anything about root, factory cable, ect.. These devices havent even been out for a year so all of them are still under warranty unless you've root or installed custom recovery.
Could just be a defective charger ? did you try an alternative mains/usb wall charger, left plugged in with the kindle powered off ? it takes a long time to charge them from flat, mine was approx 12 hours Edit - A computors usb output isn't usually enough to push a charge in only keep the kindle "as is" when in use

wouldnt matter if I could root or unbrick it. My computer wont download the system operations for those properly. I did mention that I dont know how. and I did say that I dont understand what they are so I am not doing them. That I had tried the 20 second power button push all thw way up to 5 minutes on the usb to the computer and the wall as well as detached. Nothing worked. Its stuck and they wouldnt explain why. All I got was well sorry thats it we cant help you. *sigh* I have tried calling like 5 times. to no avail. Thanks tho.
I will be the first to say that unless I can figure something out I am not going to try it. My tablet is something I find as a MUST HAVE and I dont want to take any chances on ....

Its possible because my son was using mine and his to charge his reg KF and it wasnt charging. He tried several alternates power choices on that as well. I have ordered the factory charger but I am going to want to understand everything about it before it gets here on sat. I am going to start researching it tonight when i get home.

Try testing the charge on a couple different power cords that are know to work and put it on one for 12hrs. Then if it couldn't charge I'll walk you through the steps of using a factory cable.
What kind of computer do you have. These things always work smother on a Windows machine (or Linux). Also did you ever install the drivers for your Kindle on the computer. Nothing will work properly unless you have the drivers on there. They should load automatically when you plug your kindle into the computer. If they don't, here is a thread where you can download the drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413 Just download and you can either unzip the file and use what's inside or just double click to install :good:

I dont mean to discourage and maybe it will work but the only thing a factory cable is used for is to put the device into fastboot so you can flash partition imgs or other programming features(the cable uses the fifth lead on a micro usb cable to activate fastboot). Even if it goes to fastboot your kindle is not bricked and and you would have no reason or need for fastboot. From what you've said you have not rooted or modified your device at all, there are only two possibilities of what is wrong with it at this point- the charger is bad or the charging port has gone bad. That box with the red bar about a 1/4 full just means the device doesnt have enough charge to power up. It happens all the time on mine and once I charge it for a couple minutes its fine. So your device is obviously not charging and I dont think a factory cable is going to change that. I just want you to have the right info and not go wasting your time and money trying things that are irrelevant to what is actually wrong with your device.
trying
have cable, still lost. Am trying to figure out what I need. Things wont load on the computer. I have a samsung RV515 laptop. I cant get the computer to recognize the muffed kindle. The fastboot screen does show up but then goes no further. It does need to show up on the computer so I can do more things with it. Not so much atm. I have the recommended linked .exe on the computer but it will not run as it says not everything is downloaded and I have to finish d/l it manually. I am not ready to give up but I wont do anything to screw it up more.
No it wont go past the 1/4th charge. I have left it on the charge for 24 hours and not getting further. Again I have seen people not even able to get to the front screen pull it back from the dead. So Im hoping.. thanks
You mean the exe that I linked you to doesn't work?
