Build a Custom Phone Car Mount for Under $10 - HD2 Accessories

I wanted to share this link from Lifehacker with anybody interested in getting a car mount for their HD2 but not wanting to spending $25+ plus.
http://lifehacker.com/5593245/build-a-custom-phone-car-mount-for-under-10
I tried this out but substituted a dash mount for a windshield mount. I got a cheap hardcover case and the universal Garmin mount from eBay. Both items were less than $3 and I got them with free shipping. I also had to buy some super glue since I didn't have any, I just got a small tube of it for $1.50 from Target.
It's worked like a charm so far. I will say that the case I got is a bit tight so my phone doesn't pop out of the mount as easily as the example shown.
Cheers!

Nice adjustable car mount for $7.49 shipped free

I got this deal from Dealnews.com. I actually bought one 2 weeks ago, and am impressed with it... it works well and since it doesnt have one of those long flexable goose necks, it doesn't vibrate my 6800 like my previous crappy ebay mount did. Here is the text:

Ebay car mount - be careful!

I bought this car mount a few weeks ago and have been very impressed with it, even in my old suzuki 4x4 which rattles like a can there is no vibration with the mount.

However, I have just noticed where the clip hooks the phone at the top, there is that much tension in it, well it has started to lift the top part of the phone away
So I'm going to try heating it up a bit and pulling the tab back a bit so it reduces the tension.
Something for others to watch out for!
Cheers
Todd
For those that have a defender case and want a car mount there are Rocketfish and Bracketron mounts that have the same attachment.
Google shopping results - for rocketfish
Google Results - for Bracketron mounts
These will work with the Dell car mount bracket or the clip on the Defender case.
Interesting feed back Todd, thanks. I was just about to order on.
Hopefully you can answer a question for me then. I was looking at getting one with the belt clip as well, Would the holder for the streak be sufficient that I could just get the one holder and swap this to the belt clip and then back to the windscreen holder? or would I need two holders and swap the Streak between the 2?
Thanks in advance.
Stuart
Can't really answer your question on that Stuart as I do not have a belt clip as well.
If it helps I can take a photo of the holder if you like.
I've got one of these and have not had the same issue.
I've been using mine for about 6 months now and the phone is still perfect?....
Lucky you
I'm not saying it's a bad mount, far from it, the post was just to make folk aware of a potential issue.

Todd
Nope, that's fine
Just reread my post and it makes it sound like I don't believe
Anyway, mines fine, seems like you had an issue with an over zealous clip.
Although we've only commented on 2, so that's 50% are good and 50% are bad!
i have the same mount for car and also have a belt clip....
These are the two best accessories that i purchased for my phone...
Hi, I have this one called Clingo I bought from ebay.
That is very nice, you can put any phone on that, I'am courier ran about 300 miles day, diesel car, my van vibrate a lot and the phone still there hehe.
I cannot put external links yet, but search for clingo on ebay, that's a good one.

Tetrax X Way car mount

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to share a great mount I've been using the last 3 months. The tetrax X way is great for mounting your Dinc to the a/c vent. Comes off easily but holds like none other. Plus it's small and stays out of your way.
I've had no problems with damage to the vent and it has proven to be worth the cost. BONUS: it also comes with extra mounts so you can use them on your other devices you might wish to mount to the air vent.

Replace [dot] with actual "."
Note: I receive no monies from the Tetrax company, just thought I'd share.
Cool idea. Thanks for sharing.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
if you watch the verizon stores you can purchase an OEM carmount really cheap due to clearance.... with the clearance discount and then my 25% discount ontop of that i was able to pick up the mount which also has a belt clip for around $12... it works great
Being from Europe, I spent ages trying to find one that didn't crucify on shipping. Found it on Tetrax Ireland with free postage. Thought I would share for anyone from this side of the Atlantic!!
Right now I have the OEM car mount, which I absolutely LOVE, but ill need to buy a new one every 2 years when I get a new phone. I like the fact that with this Tetrax one you can buy once and use it for multiple devices. What I'm not so wild about though, is the idea of having to attach small metal discs to the back of my devices.

Garmin Navigation window mount works with the HD7 and a case

Hey everyone,
I noticed my phone is held securely with the Garmin windshield mount and the Otterbox case.
If you have one laying around it wouldn't hurt to see if it fits.
Which Garmin unit do you have? I have been waiting a long time to find a car mount that worked with the Otterbox case.
I'm not sure which unit I have, but it's the standard mount they have for like $20.
Looks like this.

Cheap and simple Frankenstein Car Mount

Just wanted to share this and didn't see it anywhere else. I had an old HTC Thunderbolt Car mount from iGrip using the PerfektFit system. I took off the phone portion and took a gamble on the suction mount piece being compatible with a cheap N7 car dock bought off of eBay (the mount holes looked the same, but the item description did not explicitly say PerfektFit compatibility). The two items paired nicely and has been very stable for me. It is also small and slim and did not require me to do any major changes to the car. The N7 mount only cost me $14 (search for "Dashboard Non Slip 360 degrees Stand Holder Car Mount for Google Nexus 7") and obviously, I already had the iGrip mount. You can get cheap iGrip mounts off of Amazon. Just search for "iPhone 4 iGrip" and you should find some for as cheap as $7 since the old models are being cleared out. So in total, this should cost about $20.
I was not sure if I could put links directly on this post. If I can, then I will update with direct links to what I used.
I've also attached some pics. I had it on the windshield at first but it was a bit to high for me, so I remounted it on the Dash instead. Worked perfectly for my needs.
Nice one, wanax, and welcome to the forum.
very cool. It looks like it will work well.
i will try that.
