flashable im guessing?

Place in data/local/temp reboot?

actually thinking back, isnt the boot on the vibrant a .qmg file? the zip from OP has 3 folders part0 part1 part2 all three folders have a bunch of jpgs. so correct me if im wrong, but unless there is a way to convert the jpgs to a qmg file and replace the /system/media im guessing bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg we are SOL?
But they could be converted to a shutdown sequence....

I already found that. The thread is for [REF] *Update - 8/30/10* Change or remove boot down sequence. What the OP posted was "BOOT UP" which requires setting it up into a QMG file in /system/media
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
The modification of dragging files into that folder are for shutdown. The boot up is a little bit more complicated.

right, i have already created my bootdown sequence
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7633547&postcount=88
Which is simple. I havent seen where they have been able to create/modify/multiply/divide QMG files.....course i haven't dug very deep...

I posted the files so we could work on it. Dont try flashing it will just hang . Im at work now so tonight I'm gonna dig in. you guys are welcome to play with it...

No. you're wrong unless my eyes are deceiving me. The only thing that thread has in regards to bootup is replacing your bootup with the I9000 which is already done. You have to make your own QMG file.
Basically, this is a quick HOW-TO on removing or changing the quick little animation that plays when you turn off your phone. I'm pretty sure most people find it annoying and would like to turn it off, while others may want to do something interesting with it so I'll break it up into 2 tutorials(though they are fairly similar).
NOTE: This only works for the shutdown sequence. The boot sequence is stored in proprietary files called .qmg and doesn't apply to this simple hack.

That thread doesn't tell you how to make your own startup sequence. Stop arguing with me, thanks.
Edit: Found this on the original post.
Filename: d2_r2d2_pu.ogg
File description: R2-D2 Boot Sound
Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XD80IDMW
Probably would work if converted to .wav.. would work for Shutdown (Shutdown_128.ogg in /system/media/audio)

Well that's a step forward.... Also On my computer it shows QMG as a Unix Executable File, a Unix system should be able to open and edit any qmg file. Wonder if we can open the vibrants original qmg replace the images with theses and push to phone.

well there is something called the QMG project, which seems to be sometime of mesh/3d modeling software. the qmg here is some type of image file, the image type is called qmage (i think) and i havent found anywhere on the internet on how to open/edit/create/convert a qmg file.......yet.....

QMG file format is called qmage and its by quramsoft. it is a proprietary format. http://quramsoft.com/solution_e/qmage.asp
The encoding tool, decoder library are also proprietary. Finding any documentation on it is going to be hard, unless someone knows someone at a company who uses it and is willing to... leak it? Or pay quramsoft for it.

Ive been searching for a qmg editor and no luck. But have some good news. When cm6.1 comes for the vibrant we won't need a qmg editor but if someone finds something let us know....

Stop adding useless posts to this thread, it simply doesn't contribute to the R2-D2 boot animation. That thread has ABSOLUTELY no viable information there that would help us make a QMG file with the R2-D2 boot animation.
Try trolling elsewhere, thanks.

hex ftw!!!

Ok im looking into this. Its a binary file that's all images. Samsung will be releasing an sdk for these file types but will most likely sale it hence samsuck.. But im still looking into things And I still love my vibrant
Sent from my vibrant

Ok the only way to access a qmg file is with a debugging tool but you need to know the exact time it starts and stops or it just wont look right. Itll come out digitized.

Custom Boot Animation

Has anyone tried yet? If so would appreciate a tutorial. I would love to be able to create my own or a the very least get rid of the Verizon Animation. Thanks.
Howto on its way.
It's very simply. Here's an example to have a Nexus bootscreen.
Delete the file: /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Make a folder called: /system/media/bootscreen/
Unzip these files into there: http://www.sendspace.com/file/0qwx4v
You can open up the xml file and see how to customize it in there, or just replace the nexus .gif files with your own.

GrdLock, Thank you very much.
Also want to thank all the devs for all their hard work. I know we all do this during our free time as a hobby. And i'm sure i'm like most when i say my free time is very important to me and a lot of the times a rarity. So i truly appreciate everyone's hard work and time put into this.
Also this might be a stupid question (sorry if it is). In order to delete and create those folders... What program do i need to use? I'm assuming SDK? If so what are the commands?
Thanks for any help, i'm trying to learn as i go with this.
Sweet. I can wait to do this once I get root. Im tired of seeing the verizon animation.
You can change this without root just follow the guide here.

If anyone wants it. Here's the default HTC Boot animation from 1.5.
The only thing i did was resize it to 320X480.
This zip replaces the white "HTC Quietly Brilliant" and the verizon wireless animation with original Black HTC boot animation.

Hey guys, first time poster, been keeping up to date with everything but I happened to be one of the unlucky ones who installed the leak 2.1 before root..."doh!"
Anyway I have this custom boot animation that I found a while back, but every time I try to re-size it and edit the desc.txt and reload it to /data/local/ it shows nothing for a boot image.
Any ideas?
I stand corrected.

Custom bootanimators

It's great to see that the Wildfire is getting some awesome custom ROMS built for it but there doesn't seem to be any custom bootanimators being made. I've made one but it's pretty shoddy so I was wondering if anyone else had come up with anything? If you've made one or know of any good custom ones post them below and maybe we can make this an official Wildfire custom bootanimator thread
This is my effort, it would be great if others could add theirs as well I'll put them in this first post for easy access.

well i thought you meant bootloader..Hboot .. but here you meant bootanimation.
On the subject of this, I still haven't managed to get my bootanimation file into my phone. I've tried the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb mv
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot
It shows that the files have been transferred but when rebooting it still has the old animation. Any ideas anyone?
made an flashable zipfile with standard bootanimation in it.
just open the file (dont extract) and drag and drop that bootanimation.zip you wanna use insted into /system/customize/resource so the current bootanimation.zip get replaced with your custom bootanimation.zip.

UPDATE 3/27 Thunderbolt Bios Boot Animation with sound

This has been floating aroung for a couple of years now so I take no credit for the original idea.
UPDATE: I have redone the boot animation to see if this will work for those having issues with the original. Please give this one a try.
I simply edited all of the images to match the specs of the Thunderbolt.
When booting it has a sound of a hard drive starting up with beeps like an old PC.
This file greatly speeds up the boot proccess of the Thunderbolt as well!
The original file is about 3meg, this file is just over 1meg.

The attached zip file is not a flashable zip, it contains the boot animation.zip and the mp3 sound file. Open the zip file and copy the bootanimation.zip and the FinalThunder.mp3 to your computer so that you can copy them to your phone.
Depending on the ROM you are using place the 2 files in the following directory on your phone. If you are unsure, just look in the directory and if it has bootanimation.zip and FinalThunder.mp3 then you are in the right place.
You may have to set permissions on both files to rw-r--r--
(You could also use adb to push the files to your phone if you would rather)
If you think you may want to revert, copy the originals somewhere on your SD Card first.
Stock ROM (and probably most custom ROMs:
/system/customize/resource/
For Adynalyne's DeBloat ROM:
/system/media/
Works awesome! Thank you sir!

And are you setting permissions? I'm not really sure that makes any difference but who knows.

As far as Virus ROM, I haven't tried it so I'm not sure what that might be.

- LG Optimus 2X Bootanimation.
- This animation was taken from the LG Su660 presentation by LG (here)
- It's composed of 85 still pictures of 480x210 size at 30fps speed (so its a tad slower than the gif above)
- boshot confirmed here that pushing this animation to /data/local/bootanimation.zip works fine, so you don't have to replace the system files. (he used an earlier version of the animation so this might still have to be confirmed)
Code:
copy bootanimation.zip to your adb directory
use:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
- It is set to display the blinking animation once and then infinitely loop the "spotlight" effect on the letters.
I strongly suggest, that if you change your system files anyway, you backup your existing files instead of simply deleting them
I take no responsibility for any trouble that might occur with this release. It is an unintended modification of the system and thus, not perfectly safe.
If you like this, please leave my some thumbs up
Cheers

First of all, you shouldn't full quote a post like this Oo
considering a) /system/media is just another location for the boot animation. It seems that if one is present in /data/local/ it overrides the one existing in /system/media/
Putting it to data/local/ is, however, less intrusive, which is desireable (at least for me)
considering b) If you have root explorer w/ root permissions you should copy it to your SD card and go from there. I'm not familiar w/ root explorer, I try not to mess too much with my phone and usually just temp root it if I have to push some files to protected directories.
If you have a rooted shell, you can simply fire up adb, copy the zip to the same location as the adb.exe and use
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
considering c) You're welcome
Cheers

@aMpeX I have made a cwm zip of your bootanim.
I hope this is ok, if not pm me and I will remove it from my stash.
Thank you.
'course I'm ok, the image files don't belong to me after all
A teeny tiny credit somewhere would be appreciated tho.
Cheers

Ofc, you will have a folder with your name.
Thank you.
Ok you have your own folder in my stash, check it out, link in my sig.
If you have any more bootanims or files for LG2x just send me a pm and I will upload them.
(its a very fast server

does it not work correctly ?
I removed several frames at the end, to make the looping part possible.
In the first post it is advised to push the files to /data/local. But I am using GB v20e and found bootanimation.zip located in system/media. So I think it should be copied to /system/media now or is it something else?

LCARS Custom Boot Animation

I found this boot animation for the EVO 4G and I realy liked it! only problem, it's evo 4G only.... Anyone know if a simmialer one is here for the HTC Hero?
boot can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zdeQDXGWyQ&feature=related
EVO 3G installtion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701574
Anyone knows this????
If you can find a download of it you can always resize the .png's to fit the hero screen size
The download is in mine post, tried to but didn't work.... Meby HTC HERO is completly different then the EVO ?
Yeah the screen size is different, hence why you'll need to resize all the .png files
Like I sad, I already resized all the .png files, but this didn't work

What's the problem, black screen?
If it's an animation, how have you packed the zip file?
The "bootanimation.zip" needs to be "STORED",
The flashable zip (if you put it in one), can be compressed.
You also need to make sure you dont have a "thumbs.db" in with Your images too!!
If it's a .gif make sure it's NOT optimised or you'll get a black screen also.
Hope this helps
I've tried both
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip /system/media/
and
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip system/customize/resource/
and they are in there, but still standard anim
I've attached my modified file for you gkillerx just in case you didn't change the screen sizes part of desc.txt
Argh phone just crashed.... Reflashing as we speak, will report back later.
Just flashed it and not working it's just not working to bad
What's the problem?? In order to help and trouble shoot you'll have post details about the problem.
What rom are you using, where is the file being located, are you getting a white screen, black screen, it boots but is distorted, kicked your dog and stole your car??
Any info will help.
I use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003381
That ROM version
I flashed it using clockwordmod 2.5.0.7. Placed the ZIP on the SD card (root of the SD card) and flashed it.
the reboot and still getting the normal boot screen.... So no error but also no new boot screen
and my dog drove the car in to the bush.... hehehe
Post up the zip file you have and i'll take a look at it, it's more than likely something simple.
Thanks that you are willing to help me!
I am a realy noob at this so probely you will be laughing but here it is:

Your welcome, we all have to start somewhere.
I'm still a noob myself but have made plenty of bootscreens so have a fair idea.
Looking at the rom your using, the boot-animation should pushed/flashed to system/media in a .gif format as it's an eclair (2.1) based rom.
I'll download the boot-animation now and report back shortly.
Edit: the reason your were failing is because you were trying to push a png animation instead of a gif animation. I've turned the images into a gif and changed the evo information on the images to say hero instead.

I'm running floyo(2.2) at the minute so i cant test it, heres a zip file to flash. If the flash fails it probably needs re-signing(my sign tool is broken atm), so you can either re-sign it, adb push or copy and paste it with root explorer or something.
hope this helps.

Ah I wasn't aware it had to be gif, I'm so used to fannying around with my Galaxy S I assumed it would be .png
I'll give it a try when the sprog has gone to bed, it's not really my cup of tea, but I'm using my hero to experiment with stuff

You are the man!!!! I real, REAL appreciate this, will try this NOW!
YES! it's working! wwwweeeeehhiiieee!!!!
thanks man! But it keeps looping it's but that isn't a big deal it's a little weird. Can't you make the animation like 60 seconds(that's how long it takes for the boot screen to go away)
Glad it works.
i know why its looping, i put the gif into an old bootscreen zip, its using the instructions from that, ill sort when i get a chance.
