Extended batteries? - Galaxy Tab Accessories

Are there any yet for the Galaxy Tab?

having batt life issues? its been a champ so far for me.

Isn't 4Ah enough ??
PS: yes, the iPad has twice the battery capacity, but its display is twice the size, it's twice the weight, and there's twice as much room inside the device to throw-in a few more mAh

Getting the tab apart for battery access is quite a trick. I dont belive its something the average user is goong to be interested in. Peraonaly, i have been on this for as much of the 72 hrs ive had it and cant complain about the batt. One bit. Even on the rare occasion it gets lower then i feel comfortable with a few minutes on a/c brings it up nicely. I would like a longer cord though.
Galaxy Tabs.....Worth every penny!!

I'm looking for one at the moment so I can get an additional 5 hours out of the tab, more if possible as I'm going on a very long haul flight at christmas. So far I've not had much luck. If anyone can recommend one I would be grateful.

My MiniGorilla external battery pack seems to be able to charge my Tab, though since it is rated at only 1A output it would likely charge quite slowly. It might be enough to keep it going for an extended plane journey though.

Dave

Thanks for the tip, ill get right on that and take a look at it!

I've found one which seems to be rated at 5v providing 2 amps via usb from zagg.com the product is the zaggsparq 2.0. I'm going to order one to test out since they ship to the uk and will let you know if its any good.

Watch the reviews on the zaggsparq... Seems like it may be apretty shoddy product. Looked awesome to me too, reviews gave me pause.

Well i've been using the Zagg today and it does work with the galaxy tab but I had to use the general usb port as the optimized port for some reason is treated like a pc usb port and you get the no charge symbol over the battery.
So far I'm impressed had it plugged in charged my tab from 70% to 100% and still the zagg is showing 3 led lights out of 4.
Takes a bit of fiddling I have to plug it in turn the display off on the tab. Leave it for a minute and when I turn the display back on it shows the charging symbol and actually starts charging while I'm using it.
I can't recommend it yet as I've only used it for a couple of hours so I'm waiting for my trip at christmas (27 hours of flying) before I make any judgements either way.

Does anybody else get super SLOW performance when charging?

Whenver I'm charging via wall charger or USB my captivate is super duper SLOOOWWW. It takes forever to switch screens, the keyboard doesn't function correctly, and my bluetooth won't sync. As soon as I disconnect the charge everything is back to normal.
Any ideas?

be patient for answers here
Ive noticed it charges slowly but I have not noticed it being slow while charging.
The theoretical output of the charger is .7 amps, and thats not very much in the smartphone world these days. When I am using it and it is plugged in, it charges roughly a percent every eight minutes. The .7 amps must be just enough to cover the phone being on and in use.
I am currently looking around for chargers in the 1 amp range. My old tilt 2 charger works great for that and i definitely saw a charge time improvement. I would love to have one with a greater than 1amp output but I dont think you can find them anywhere
Are you running SetCPU with set profiles ?
If Yes : that is the problem , adjust profile.
If Not : must be something else, not a common behavior.
I read this on another forum but someone mentioned changing the default usb setting from Kies to something something else may help.

As long as the output is 5 volts, you're o.k.
My captivate runs the same while charging but the actual process of charging the phone takes forever it seems. I've only had it a couple days now and I have to get used to killing some tasks while charging because I actually think the battery life was decreasing as it charged.
Incidentally, the display is the real killer on the battery...most tasks don't really eat as much battery life in comparison.
Recent Nokia chargers will work with a slight mod to the plug where it fits the phone,
After Pimping out my phone it works fine while charging now. Yea screen eats up like 82% of batteries resources...OUCH!
Just search for Motorola P513 on Amazon. Rapid rate car charger! And, belive me, it's perfect fit! Now on sale for $5.85 (was $29.99).

for those of you who have a old iphone/ipod touch charger block, use that instead.
its rated for 5V/1A output, higher than the 5V/.7A output on the default samsung charging block.
that should charge the phone much faster
I have the same issue with charging, no matter what charger I use (iPhone, Tilt, USB), it's all VERY painfully slow. I've been as high as 1% per 6 minutes (rare - when using Nokia charger (1.2A I believe) to 1% per 13 minutes via USB.
I'm thinking it might be something internal to the actual phone. The iPhone didn't take this long even with USB charging through a computer or LCD monitor. Heck, the iPhone on average was 90 seconds per 1% of battery. I could have a nearly dead phone and be fully charged and ready in less than an hour and a half.
Anyone else think the same?
yea i think it might be something related to the phone indeed. this is, in my opinion, the biggest problem. i'm always on the go and i depend on my phone so much that if it doesn't charge fast enough i'm screwed.

which thread is that? I'm curious to track that one as well. I have gotten 4 other people to purchase the Captivate from the iPhone and we are all on the same boat..even with a 1.2A charger from my N97 (which only lasted 3 weeks with me...but can't wait for the N8), it takes about 4 hours to charge the battery...something's wrong there. It shouldn't take less to drain the battery than to charge it!

Extra battery for the Galaxy Tab

Hi,
Do you have an external battery for the Galaxy Tab? I was thinking of getting this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=219600407&pf_rd_i=468294
What do you guys think?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
It looks good and the price is attractive
I bought a similar battery 6-8 months ago for my laptop and it can also charge my psp, phones, pretty much everything
However, only buy it if you have a real use for it, such as travelling a lot ^^
Just keep in mind that at 750mA output, it won't charge the Tab while the Tab is in use. It'll spread the drain a bit, you will get more time out of the device, but it's not ideal.
Which one do you think would be a good solution? Is 1A output enough? Or maybe there is someone that could recommend a specific battery..?
I wil have to tavel a lot the next few months with lots of time spent in the airport waiting for connecting flights.

My MiniGorilla battery can charge my Tab, but does so very slowly and indeed works better if the Tab is off.

But does the battery handle the running tab? I mean does the battery of the tab discharge when it is on and used, while connected to the battery?

This one doesn't look half-bad, specs wise:

Ok, this morning my Tab had around 34% battery left.
I decided to watch some video streamed from my Tab to my PC via AllShare, and decided to try this whilst connected to my MiniGorilla rather than the mains.
I watched in total around 40 minutes of video, but it was off and on as I was doing other things at the time, including popping out to the shops for a while.
In total it took me two hours to finish, and in that time the Tab went from 34% to 54% charged.
Of course, this was screen off, so later on I'll try playing a video directly on the Tab and see how that affects the charging from my MiniGorilla. In the meantime, I'll set my Tab to keep the screen on for an hour and stream some music from Spotify and see how that affects it.
Regards,
Dave

Ok, so I tried this and the battery did drain around 5% in an hour with the screen on (auto brightness), and streaming Spotify through the internal speakers.
This would give the Tab around 20 hours worth of continuous use before draining completely.
So at this load, the MiniGorilla doesn't provide enough current to charge the Tab, but does considerably slow the rate of discharge. In addition, since the MiniGorilla is rated at 9000mAh, I'd imagine it would still have some charge in it at the point the Tab fully discharged.
This would definitely keep me going on a long haul flight, so I'm happy with it.

Dave

EDIT: nevermind my previous post - I can confirm that the Energizer XPAL XP8000 with the Energizer PC007 ipad charge adapter DOES charge the Galaxy Tab (it's rated at [email protected]).
The Tab will think it's connected to a PC, and the battery status will say "Not Charging", but Circular Battery Indicator widget went from 58% -> 60% over 20mins approx, so it is in fact charging.

It thinks it is a PC, and according to the battery icon it isn't charging, though in reality it is.
I suggest that your XPal is probably charging it too - leave it connected a couple of hours with the Tab asleep and you should see that the battery charge goes up.

Best Extended Battery For LTE?

I am looking for a replacement for the stock battery. Since we got LTE in our area my battery is having a hard time keeping up. I used to be able to go from awake to bed on a charge but now by evening I have to be on the charger.
I've seen a few posts here about specific extended batteries but wanted to ask people that had any experience with any to reply.
My criteria is needs to work, needs to not ruin the form factor of the phone, and needs to be in the $30-40 range.
I also want a pony.
Thanks!

I hear ya on LTE draining the battery. Me personally I couldn't find an extended battery I like, and if you get one good look with cases that fit. So I got an Anker Slim Talk power bank, basically a slim external battery with a retractable mini usb plug that fits our phone. basically what you get a is a charger that will fit in your pocket, and its 3200mah, just a tad shy of twice as much juice as the stock HTC battery. I typically will plug it in when I know I'm doing something battery intensive, or when I'm working and can't use my phone much anyway. Only drawback of it, is the built in flash light on it, which is pretty easy to trigger and get your pocket glowing lol. I'd like it better without the flashlight but otherwise its the best solution to this phone, since HTC put way too small of a stock battery and didn't make a native extended battery kit for it. here's a link
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-®SlimTa...id=1345317570&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+slim+talk
I was going to also reccomend the anker external charger with 2 1550 mah batteries but it looks like its no longer available for our phones I use that too for times I just want an instant refill and don't feel like waiting on the external to charge up the phone.
I reccommend the acesoft 3850 its amazing

GN2 Spare Battery Charging System/Stand

I just ordered this with the 50% off coupon:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EB-H1J9VMAGSTA
To me, it seemed like a no-brainer: a portrait/landscape stand with a spare battery charger built in PLUS it comes with a spare battery for the SAME PRICE as a replacement battery. I've always liked having a desktop dock so i can easily use my phone as an alarm clock, but with the usb on the bottom of this phone, it'd mean that the dock will be in portrait mode. Although i'll need to manually connect the USB to charge the phone while it's on the stand, i'll be able to have it in landscape mode while charging, plus i can use the same USB to either charge the phone or the spare battery.
Can anyone think of any drawbacks of this? I was eyeing the smart-dock, but (besides being out of stock), it lists at $100, so even with the 50% off, it's still expensive and only works in portrait. (I'm going to pick up the MHL 7 to 11 pin adapter so that i can use my old MHL with this phone for HDMI instead, so i see no need for the more expensive dock.)
Has anyone seen/bought one of these or had one for a different phone?

I also jumped in on this deal for the 50% off price and having an extra battery to rotate.
I really want that multimedia dock though...

Perfect!! Just what I was looking for... rather than carrying a car charging kit when I travel it is much easier for me to keep an extra charged battery I can pop if it gets low.
But with 6 hours screen time, I don't think that will happen very often!
And now its gone...I have to keep an eye on this because its an awesome deal.

If the dock actually charges the phone while it's docked, it would have been amazing. Otherwise, it's an okay deal for a battery and charger.
You can get the OEM charger dock without the battery on ebay for about $10 bucks

You maybe right. Most of us will still have charge left after 12 hours of pretty use. Since the phone is new, I've been using it a lot, configuring, testing, etc. Yet at the end of the day, I am still staring at 40%. But for $25, which include A/C charger, battery charger/holder, and the included battery, it is a hard deal to pass up. It will come in handy on a long day at the amusement park.

I think you misunderstood. I didn't mean my phone has lasted all week long on a single charge haha. I mean every day I'm going to sleep (long 17 hour days) and the phone is still on 20-40 percent depending on how badly I abuse it. The only day I killed it to 0% was the first day I got it because my battery came charged to about 55%
Ever notice looking on ebay for extra batteries look at the supposedly oem samsung battery..Many pictures don't have the watermark sticker on them....It should have them on the top ..opposite side where the pins are. anyone else notice that?

How's your battery life?

My battery life is decent, but the charging time is the slowest I've ever seen on any device I've ever owned. I'm not even kidding. Surely it's just a defect on mine right?
Negative. My charge time was ridiculously slow. To the point that while I was charging in my car, if I was doing things along side it, my battery would actually go down. Plugged into wall, it is slow but charges though. Maybe its just US or a small number?

Actually I haven't used it at all. Got it at 2 PM, was at 60%. Dropped my mom off at the airport immediately after, came home and it was 50% at 3:20 PM (which is okay because LTE was on by default and it's super patchy here so I turned it off). Plugged it in and showered, 15 minute shower and I come out and it's 50% still (plugged directly into the wall). Went to work at 5, 55% when I got there. Plugged it in to the computer we have at the front desk and over the course of my 5 hour shift it eventually hit 95% before I had to leave at 10 PM. Un-****ing-acceptable.
yeah, I'd say mine is a little better than that. I left the screen off and didn't use it for like 2 hours and it went from 73% to 91.

I don't have my One yet so I can't confirm this personally, but I've read in a few different places that the charging rate is a little slow compared to other phones. My guess is that HTC is trying to maximize the lifespan of the battery since it's non-removable. Quicker charging would generate more heat and might cause it to wear it out faster.
Yes this is the case. Check anandtechs review.
Brian speculates just as you do that it is for longevity.

If I'm not mistaken, the phone has a smart battery or a circuit inside the battery that prevents it from drawing too much current. It is pretty much a standard among smartphones these days. Therefore, even though you use the 2 amp charger, you may not charge faster at all.

Do not charge from a computers USB port, they are going to be slow as **** without fast charge.
Just use a 1+ amp charger. Pretty simple people.

I've found thats too much for most phones. It all depends on the charger(most car adapters are crappy), I'd assume. I've had the same with Evo, Optimus, GS2, and GS3. If anything is running alongside gps/navi, it destroys the battery
