lighter adapter -- will the Motorola work?

I was looking at cla's for my tilt and was wondering if the connector on the Moto (I think it was the razor) will work with our phones.

Will work, but only half the rated amp of Kaiser OEM charger. Also, I believe, it has fewer pins in USB connection.
Good for emergency use, but threads here and other forums indicate that you are better off with a dedicated Kaiser charger.

Car lighter adapter
I have the usb cable and home adapter, but since I spend a lot of time in the car I was looking for a unit for it. I do not have a need for a cradle (at least at this time) so I was just checking on the adapter.
In a car, the amperage is based upon the devices draw and protected by the size of fuse in the adapter, so that part should not be a problem. The connector is where my real concern comes in. They are both mini usb and fit the phone, but I do not know if the pins are the same or the wiring on the pins.
I did a search in the forum and no results came back. Can you link to a discussion on it or point me to a thread that this has been discussed?

Actually, I believe there's a DC-DC voltage conversion going on can change the amperage available to the mini-usb connector. Make sure your adapter can deliver 1amp.

I've got one and it works fine. It might take a bit longer than one with a higher amperage, but what's the big rush?

HTC Fast charging ?

I just stuck here, cause I found a thread about fast usb charging. But there is no answers or solutions.
I have many htc devices. It seems that some of them has a problem with 3rd party usb chargers.
My most used device is Universal. It suck a lot of power. THis one doesn't enable usb charging at all, until you put it in sleep mode before pluging the charger.
Anyway, the same issue for Kaiser too.
The problem is, that it doesn't matter how much current is the charger able to deliver. They just use some kind of recognition of original chargers.
What I already measured: Original charger and universal running => takes 1200mA. 3rd party charger or my 5A PSU => Universal/Kaiser sucks just 500mA.
This is fast/slow charge. I found here discussion about 4 and 5 pins shorted??
But WTF which 4 & 5 pin?

According to this pinout. It would be 2 GND of Audio side? I'm not sure that original charger use extUSB audio side to charge...? It also could be D & A pins, but I'm afraid to connect 5V to Data- pin.
Anyway, someone here have to know it.
If not, in a few days I'll try all possible combinations and post the results.

I'd also be interested to know about this. When I charge my TYTN II via USB, it takes much longer to charge than if I charge it via the mains charger (I prefer USB since I travel a lot and it's one less charger I need to carry around).
Better still, is it possible to buy a USB cable that will charge at the same rate as the mains charger rather than messing with a USB cable with the associated risks?

a usb port only supplies 500ma, while the wall charger does 1200ma as the OP has measured (although it says 1A at the back of the charger). changing a cable is not gonna superpower up your usb port.

unless maybe you get hold of a forked USB cable, like the one that Seagate Free Agent drives come supplied with... you know, 1 mini USB splitting halfway down to two normal USB plugs.
Worth experimenting with, do you think?

I got one of those leads, came with my portable 2.5" hard drive. Just tried the lead on my Tytn 2 and it does charge almost as fast as the mains plug

Ok, so, I tried to experiment.
Here you go.
Usb simple cable 480ma charge.
The same result with Motorola charger.
Motorola charger pins A and B short circuit - 890mA.
That's much better, althrough I suppose it can suck more current then 890mA, but it's significantly better.
THere is also pins data+ and data- short circuited (I don't know if it has effect, but I can't disconnect it in this connector).
Apparently NC (not connected) pin on our pinout schematics definitely is connected.
With % of charged battery it suck less and less current....I suppose it's usual, this should be even driven by ROM.
So, update your cables
It works even with car charger, so no more charger problems...

Just to be clear - you took a Motorola USB cable and shorted pins A and B (which are which by the way?) and it provides a decent current....
How do you short the pins? I've looked in the end of cable and I can hardly see the pins, let alone short them! What's the trick here or have I missed something?

Also interested in how to short the pins. I use Navizon, bluetooth HSDPA tethering, and iGuidance while on the ambulance and even my iGo 3A max rated charger can barely keep up because the tilt wont accept all of the available current.

Yes, that is correct. Short pins 4 & 5 (4 is normally NC) to enable fast-charging. If you do it correctly, the phone shouldn't pick up tethering, and therefore should not say "PC Connected" or the like..
The TracyAndMatt pinout is wrongly numbered. The pin assignments are correct, but the number/letter scheme they used is incorrect. True ExtUSB pinout translation to their pinout is as follows:
T & M Real ExtUSB
-------------------------------
Pins E D C B A = 1 2 3 4 5
Pins 1 2 3 4 5 6 = 6 7 8 9 10 11
The way I remember is that the corner opposite the angled one is where pin 1 starts (where E is on the T&M pinout) - and they go like most IEC-standard connectors, in a clock-like circular numbering scheme.

its the milliamps that is the problem even doubling up with a y splitter does not do much Find a charger with the most milliamps for a faster charge 1.2 amps works best and as far as i know no usb port puts out that much even if they are wired in a series. Many try to sell lower amp chargers they dont even know about it at att. if the screen is off they will charge but not well these phones are energy hogs. I must have at least twenty chargers and messed around with them... the original or one of highest amperage works for me.

Is it possible to get one of the 'fast charge' enabled USB cables on eBay or elsewhere? I am not keen on doing the mod described.
What is the maximum mAh recommended for HTC devices? Is it still 1.2 A or more?

Check http://winhlp.com/node/855#qaes for the only buyable solution I know, besides compatible chargers. Your best bet is probably the original HTC charger, available for roughly $10.

There can be no recommended maximum mAh. There can only be a required current, which differs from device to device. Check Ohm's Law. The device determines how much current it draws. If the charger cannot deliver that current, then the charging process can fail in various ways, all undesirable.

I don't know, but probably not. Apple used to use a different signalling scheme involving resistors.

Charging cable for note 2

Could someone recommend any good supplier of USB to microUSB cable that can handle 2 amps of charging the note 2? Other than the cable I got from Samsung, all my cable charge super slow my note 2 (from the original charger).

I purchased one of those 6 foot cable extensions and just plugged the stock cable into it and the extension portion into the stock charger. Works like charm.

No no not saying they wont work....its the performance aspects of cables.
kindle cable contained in link is 5-6ft long , allows usb sync , built for 2amp current flow and user reviews are solid which = Good quality.
A little explanation on why I'm buying new cable,
My stock is defective micro connection wasn't sure easily falling out of device.
I took it to ATT service center showed them what was up and they ordered replacement cables that sucked.
1st Rcable was too short -Samsung was only 3ft long.
2nd Rcable didn't sync to pc - Off the wall brand 6 ft long.
From that point I broke out utility knife modified stock cable cutting some plastic off sleeve on micro end.
Connections now sure but cable looks beat up so replacement was needed.

Well I received my Amazon Kindle replacement cable today
Kindle Cable is of good quality , connections are firm much better then stock oem that came with device.
I highly recommend it.

I've struggled with a variety of the longer, non-OEM micro USB cables - the Amazon Basics, cables from Monoprice, etc. I had problems with all of them, either not providing enough current, or just flaking out within a short time. At one point I thought my phone (EVO 4G) had a problem with the micro USB jack (it didn't). Then one day I found a great cable on Amazon:

I've been using this cable for several years now, and it has proven to be very durable (I've run over it with my office chair a number of times), and has always provided the full current of the charger I am using with no issues at all. I purchased another one recently to use in another location, and the quality is the same. I've been using these cables with all of my phones, and currently with the Note II.

I'm using this one from Monoprice, with the standard OEM Samsung wall / desk charger that came with the Note II:

If my calculations are correct that's putting about 1120 Ma per hour into your phone.
I wonder if it would charge that fast on usb and have data too?
I also wonder how that compares to the stock USB cable that came with our charger.

Good questions. I was wondering the same things, particularly as the Monoprice cable is double the length of the stock one. At some point, I'll try both charging from my laptop with the Monoprice cable, and switching out and using the stock USB cable, for comparison purposes. My problem (well, not REALLY a problem at all!) is that my battery seems to be lasting around 27 hours, so it may be a while before I can get around to doing this!

My stock usb cable that came with my Samsung charger shows charging on USB, even though it's plugged into the wall.
Conversely, put my note on my 2 amp car charger and the note says charging on AC.
Something is not right with the stock setup. Sure it charges but it should read charging on AC if it's on AC.

Just did a test. Found a usb cable from another device and plugged that into the Samsung stock charger. Now it reads "charging on AC."
I used that same cable and USB on my desktop. My note said charging on USB.
I think the cable was the bottle neck on the charger and the usb port on the desktop is not putting out enough power to make the Note believe its on AC.
USB is USB as far as our desktop/ Note goes, but if you are using AC, then the cable becomes more important if you want the fastest charge. What's apparent is we didn't get a real charging cable with our Note II. .

So far, I haven't had any problems with my stock Samsung USB cable. You can always try the Monoprice cable I mentioned in a prior post. Also, I've read on these boards that it sometimes helps to try different USB ports on your computer, and that it can actually make a difference in charging.

Interesting topic I have been wondering about myself. The cable I got with my Note 2 is not good. The connector, when attached, is easy to move aside, does not hold in place and the sad thing is, it is original manufacturer cable.
I used several different cables and found out that the problem is the height (length) of the micro USB connector, which protrudes from the connector's plastic cover. The other thing I found is that standard Samsung cable, delivered with the phone is few fractions of millimeter shorter than any other cable I compared it to, and suffers from it.
Amazon basics cable I ordered recently might have the connector metal only barely longer, but holds much better (in fact it fits tightly and feels very well fixed in the socket). Contrary to some, I have not observed any problem when charging the phone with this cable and original charger. Maybe the newer cables are already adapted to the chargers as well.
The fact that the norm is not always the norm is also proved by original Samsung MHL adapter (with HDMI out). This has "micro USB" connector (here it is 11 pin though) which is roughly 1-2 mm longer than the one on supplied charger cable. This one gets "all way down" into the hole and still does not even touch the case with its plastic part (there might be ~ 1mm space between the plastic of connector and Note 2 case).
Now, when I look at potential micro USB cable for Note 2 I always check the length of micro USB metal part. It must be longer than original cable from Samsung, otherwise it will have flimsy connection.

I try and use a shorter cable as the longer they get the more power you loose. I use a 6" inch usb A to B Micro. I love this cable because my phone can sit right next to my computer and its getting the max power.

{Review} Great USB C to Micro USB adapters!

Wanted to do a shoutout to TechMatte Inc for giving me a free sample unit of these micro usb to usb C adapters. I got them in exchange for my unbiased review. So:
First: This is a two pack for a pretty reasonable price. Right now, it's $5 a piece. Not bad.
Second: Quality: These are plastic, but very functional. I have a multitude of micro USB cables from previous phones, and it's nice to be able to have backups laying around, instead of having to buy a bunch of USB C cables now. I leave the adapter plugged into the micro usb cable, and plug the adapter into the phone. Pretty handy at making the old cables still work.
Caveats: Size. This is a plus and a minus-- they would be very easy to lose. Also, the plastic feel. These work very well, but I can also see them starting to fall apart with heavy daily use. Not sure, but it looks like they wouldn't survive abuse.

Does the phone report that it's plugged into AC (in the Battery info screen), and does it report "Charging" or "Charging Slowly" if you look at the lock screen?
I'd be concerned about using an adapter like this since it could be potentially placing more stress on the phone's USB-C female connector than it was designed to handle. I'd much rather see a short (say 3" or so) Micro USB F to USB-C M adapter cable, so the stress gets relieved a bit by the cable.

Hey I just got these today! They are small and go charge at a decently fast pace even though it only says "charging". I like that it comes in packs of 2 so I can have one in my car and one at home.
It's only been a day, but so far I approve of these.

I just tested using 3 configurations:
Stock LG charger and Cable 5V3A:
"Charging Rapidly" at +2621mA/h
Anker 5V2.4A charger and USB-A to C cable:
"Charging Rapidly" at +1285mA/h
Anker 5V2.4A charger and USB-A to Micro USB cable with USB C adapter:
"Charging" at +1225mA/h

Any thoughts on what the software engineer from Google has to say about the adapter and what potential impact it may have on our devices?
I'm a Software Engineer on the Chrome OS team at Google on the Chromebook Pixel and Pixel C teams.
I bought these two USB-C to Micro USB adapters from TechMatte and found they do not work properly with the Chromebook Pixel.
Upon closer inspection by our engineering team here, we have determined that this adapter is not correctly following the USB Type C specification.

Specifically, these adapters do not charge the Chromebook Pixel 2015 because the adapters leave the C-C lines floating, where the specification requires a Rp pullup to Vbus to identify the cable as a legacy adapter or cable.
Please see the document named "USB Type-C Specification Release 1.1.pdf"
section 4.5.3.2.4 for a description of why the Rp pullup is necessary.
Please also see Section 4.11 and the following note :
1. For Rp when implemented in the USB Type-C plug on a USB Type-C to USB 3.1 Standard-A Cable
Assembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Standard-A Cable Assembly, a USB Type-C to USB 2.0 Micro-B
Receptacle Adapter Assembly or a USB Type-C captive cable connected to a USB host, a value of 56 k'
± 5% shall be used, in order to provide tolerance to IR drop on V BUS and GND in the cable assembly.
In other words, since you are creating a USB Type-C plug to a USB 2.0 Micro-B receptacle assembly, you must use a resistor of value 56k' as a pullup to Vbus. This cable does not do this.
Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide about why these adapters are problematic.

Here Benson is suggesting that there are potential risks with using the USB Type C cable supplied with the Elephone P9000.
Disclaimer : though I am linking to a brand new Type-C phone this is NOT a phone review. As I mentioned previously, I do not review phones. Instead, this is an accessory warning, for the cable that ships with that phone.
One of my colleagues recently bought a brand new P9000 from +Elephone Mobile. It came with a USB A-to-C cable and he was curious if it was a good cable, so he brought it to me.
My testing shows that this cable violates the #USB #TypeC specification. It uses a 10kΩ resistor where it should have used a 56kΩ resistor as mandated by the USB Type-C Specification.
This cable is potentially dangerous, as when combined with a Type-C device that can fast charge, it may damage Type-A chargers, hubs, or PC USB ports that are not designed for the current draw from new USB Type-C devices.

One of my colleagues recently bought a brand new P9000 from +Elephone Mobile. It came with a USB A-to-C cable and he was curious if it was a good cable, so he brought it to me.
My testing shows that this cable violates the #USB #TypeC specification. It uses a 10kΩ resistor where it should have used a 56kΩ resistor as mandated by the USB Type-C Specification.
This cable is potentially dangerous, as when combined with a Type-C device that can fast charge, it may damage Type-A chargers, hubs, or PC USB ports that are not designed for the current draw from new USB Type-C devices.

+Elephone Mobile, please immediately stop bundling these cables, and let your customers know to be very careful with the A-to-C cable that ships with this device.
By the way, this all may be very familiar to other users, because another phone manufacturer from China, +OnePlus, shipped a bad cable with their phone last year as well.

As you can see there also may be an issue with the charger.
I bought some Anker USB C adaptors for now (quite cheap and work) but will raise this on the ELEPHONE forums.

Oh dear! Thanks for raising awareness. I was going to buy the fast charger anyway - this will speed that decision up!

so, is the cable bad to use with qualcomm 2\3 chargers?

It looks bad with everything. Shame really as it seems to work but judging from the research carried out it looks really dodgy. Elephone need to rethink this.

My bundled elephone cable didn't connect to the phone properly, the metal shroud covered part of the connector so it couldn't seat home fully. I had to slide the metal back, after heating it, to get the phone to charge. Couldn't get the PC to connect to the phone at all! I was very worried that the phone was faulty when I first got it, and was hoping that the cable was the problem.
I've since bought an "elephas" brand qi wireless charger and that's great! A well made piece of kit that doubles as a nightstand. It runs on a standard microusb connector.
I also bought a braided type "C" cable for the PC, its a brand called KNIPS, it feels like a good quality cable heavy and fairly inflexible, though it tends to hold shape if bent. That works very well to charge, and to transfer data between the phone and the PC.
My next purchase will be a QI charger for the car - more when that arrives, later.

Hot battery?
If anybody suffers from a very hot battery (heißer Akku) while charging, you should consider to buy a correct USB C cable vor one of these little Anker adaptors (see thr reviews at the top).

Which cable?
Please could somone post the part number for a cable that I'd safe - anker or tronsmart. I'm not clear on the USB version for the p9000

Where can I buy a compitable charger? The one that came with the phone isn't compatible according to Checkr.

Any good quality with max. 2000mah MicroUsb adapter (I use at work an Samsung travel adapter one on both USB-Type C phones) with corresponding USB-Type C adapter is suitable to charge you're phone or directly an USB-Type C adapter.

Last night I put my phone on the charger using the supplied wall plug and a USB cable I bought from Amazon (linked below). After a few minutes there was a spark and a loud bang with a burning smell from the socket. I have now tried to charge the phone with the actual cable supplied by Elephone and a different wall plug but the phone no longer charges. It still works though as the battery isnt yet dead. I plan on returning it to Amazon with the hope of getting a new one. This time around getting an Anker wall plug and USB cable to hopefully avoid these problems in the future.

Any microusb to type c adapter is safe?
Do you have any further discussion to support that statement? I would have assumed that cheap adapters can be just as dangerous as cheap cables.

A normal MicroUsb Charger not have more than 2000mah power so an adapter from MicroUsb to Usb tip C will not be a problem to charge the Usb C phone only will take more time depending on chargers power. From Usb C charger to MicroUSB I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Bad charger Quality (high voltage or else) or problems with sockets (dust or water in sockets from wear in pockets) or bad cable. I used an original Samsung charger with 500mah power and my cheapest MicroUSB to USB-Type C adapter and never had problems with it.
