Nook - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Themes and Apps

Hi was just curious if theres a nook app for windows mobile 7? Ive done some looking around and havent found much. Wife is crazy for nook on android and only way I can switch her over is if theres nook or something like it that can grab books from her barnes and noble account. Thanks for the info and ill keep looking around.

There isn't any Nook app yet. Rumors are Spring 2011, but they are just rumors. I've been using the Kindle app, which kinda of ticks me off, as I have lots of book that I bought from Barnes & Noble, and have a Nook Color, that I do not always carry with me.

And, ironically, it is available for sale on Amazon.com, but at $50 more than B&N sells it.

I think the S-IPS screen is what attracted me to the Nook Color.

NY Times article on the popularity of the Nook Color

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/23/business/media/23nook.html
I bought the Nook Color for my wife, she likes to read on it, and I get to tweak it and play with it as a tablet. Lately I used it more than her of course. And she doesn't mind what i do to it as long as she can still read her books.

Good article. I think we (rooters) are a big part of the success, not just because we buy them but we make the sales numbers look good enough to continue the push. It is also such an elegant looking device that the more people see them, the more they sell. I see a lot of them on the commuter train I take to work every morning. I would say I see more of them than iPad (I still see more original nooks, kindles, and Sony ereaders than anything). iPad sales are boosted by people that buy them because they are cool and want to use them at home. They are really too big and heavy to use comfortably on the train in my opinion and I am a 250 lb guy.
I wasn't aware of the problems Apple is having with magazine publishers. I am not a big magazine reader but I get Men's Health and it looks great on the Nook (both in the app on CM7 and the stock - I dual boot). There is no way that I would buy each edition at $4-$5. $2 a month for a subscription is a much more attractive price for me.

Very ineteresting. I never realized magazines on the Nook Color were basically just PDF files.
Hopefully, publishers will eventually tweak their magazines so they fit the Nook Color's screen dimensions better "out of the box." I don't mind pinching and Zooming, and it's nice that the magazine is identical to the newstand copy, but it would be cool if the articles fit the screen better from the get-go without the need to pinch and zoom.

Ewwww I'm playing with a "girls toy" *chucks nook out the window*
JK I just have to put some stickers of hot naked chicks on the back and it will be ok.
I'm probably going to buy a NC soon (first tablet) but reading the NY Times article they say that B&N is expected to debut a new e-reader this week.
Does anyone have any detail about this? maybe they'll drop the price of the current NC ($250), does someone know of a better deal? TIA

No one knows for sure but speculation is it will be an update or an additional option the the original eInk Nook, not the Color. The Nook Color (NC) was only introduced last November as the NYT article states. With the latest upgrade and addition of apps, many think it is too soon to replace it.
The original Nook is about 1 year old which, in technology these days, means it's old.
Beyond that I haven't paid too much attention to what the actual details of the announcement might be. I'm not interested in another Nook. I'm happy with my NC.

where are the deals now?

Hi guys. Missed the Barnes and Nobel deal so now I am looking around for the best deals, so I thought I would stop here and ask. I need one for my daughter for Christmas. Either a color nook or nook tablet. Looking to root it as well through the sd card because I want to keep the stock B&N software for my daughter to buy and read books. Any input is welcome as to where I can get either one for a great deal and which one to get. Thanks!
I bought 2 refurbished for the kids for $119 each from here last week. It changed to $129 now. I don't know if the price fluctuates or not.

It appears to be B&N's own ebay site.
Item location: B&N Warehouse, United States
I can't be sure what the warranty is but it should be 1 year like the one from their site.
Yes, that auction ended, then went from $129 to $149 and that ended and I cant find another auction listed under the Barnes and Nobel store anymore.......
For the price comparison between the two, I am wondering if I would be better to go with the tablet? I am sure that it will be rooted very soon! looking for input!

Locked boot loader makes it basicly SOL for custom roms.

B&N's own site still has the $149 refurb deal here. Not as good as $119, but at least its still available
So what would you guys get? If they get past the bootloader problem, which I am sure they will, the only other advantage to the tablet besides the speed is the built in "mic" which later on could be used to talk while using the keyboard similar to the way a cell phone works? Just trying to weigh my options!
Honestly, I would go ahead and get the nook color (not tablet). And think about putting a rom on the emmc (internal drive). That way she can read books from Barnes and Noble on the nook app, as well as books on the kindle app, Sony reader app and Google books. I also check out books from my local library.
I guess you can also do this running the rom from the SD card, but having done it both ways myself, I would go for putting the rom on the nook itself. Rom runs much better.
Apps are much cheaper from the Google market than from the B&N market.
I don't know how much function a mic will give, but I text from my nook using Google voice.
Check out Craigslist as another option. My sister just got a great deal on a nook with leather cover that was barely touched. Still had the box, etc.

It has already been rooted, just no customs ROMS unless someone gets passed the locked bootloader.....

So you are typing right? I dont suppose google voice works without a mic right????
You can use Google voice for texting over wifi. No way to make calls from the nook.

Yep, but it also says "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available" above the listing and doesn't have an option for me to buy
My bad. I'm brain farting....
screw it, I went with the tablet. Im sure it will be unlocked soon by these awesome devs on this website. The tablets processor and the mic did me in.......

$150 now
While this ain't exactly Nook Color related, if you aim for a cheap tablet and don't care about the 1024x600 Resolution the Nooks have...
Go for a Aino Novo 7, it's 100$ and overall might be the better choice for your daughter as it packs a whole bunch more than the Nook.
Its biggest downside being tough to find protective covers and the 800x480 resolution.

B&N Exploring spin off of Nook Biz?

Maybe good news for those waiting for a fire sale on B&N NOOKcolor and NOOKtablet devices?
Looks like the locked bootloader really killed Nook Tablet sales plus the Kindle Fire is taking a big chunk of would be nook Color\Tablet owners

Nothing stopping them from releasing an update to "free" the Nook Tablet from their "jail" basically. I don't think they're stupid, but I do think that somewhere deep inside B&N HQ someone is getting raked over the coals about the lockdown - it would behoove B&N to do something, and fast.
That 1.41 update that basically cripples the NT could be construed as a "final nail in the coffin" but they can fix it, if they don't keep dicking around and making stupid decisions.
I just yesterday got to play with a Nook Tablet for the first time since they came out, and the instant impression was "Wow, this is quite noticeably much faster than the Nook Color" which is pretty obvious because of the dual core nature and more storage and faster CPU speed.
But then I walked across the store I was in and got a Kindle Fire in my hands and that thing REALLY was snappy even compared to the NT. But I'd never buy a Fire because of no expandable storage - that's simply unacceptable in this day and age. As far as the web browsing on the Fire, it doesn't matter to me as I prefer using Opera mini and that's way faster - Opera perfected that preloaded page serving stuff many years ago. Amazon's "Silk" implementation isn't bad but, Opera mini on the same hardware just leaves it standing still.
I hope B&N comes to their senses, and fast.

Indeed, Barnes & Noble cut its sales forecast for fiscal 2012, which ends April 30. The company projected fiscal 2012 revenue of $7 billion and $7.2 billion. Wall Street was expecting $7.33 billion. The company will also lose $1.40 to $1.10 a share for the year. Barnes & Noble said sales of the Nook Simple Touch and investments in the Nook business led to the losses. Wall Street was expecting a loss of 63 cents a share.
Barnes & Noble shares were crushed in early trading.
...
There are no guarantees that the Nook unit will be spun off. The company said it is looking into international expansion with partners.
Barnes & Noble also provided some sales data, but actual unit data wasn’t given. Barnes & Noble said Nook unit sales were up 70 percent from a year ago. Nook Tablet sales exceeded expectations and Nook Simple Touch lagged. Digital content sales were up 113 percent from a year ago. Nook sales were driven by third party retailers.

The locked bootloader has nothing to do with B&N's financial woes. They did it to allow use of DRM for videos due to the RIAA and Google. This has already been sidestepped BTW. In a similar vein, Acer launcher their new Transformer with a locked bootloader but has announced they will have an unlock tool for those that don't care about having access to DRM'd videos or a warranty.
It has everything to do with this issue though.
Homer
I don't disagree homer, although I think B&N is still struggling on how to "bridge the gap" a lot. I also think they are going to struggle on their own with trying to provide movies, music, apps along with their books for their products. Not teaming with Google (or at least letting you link your google app purchases) will be a big downfall. If I already bought something on Amazon's appstore, I don't want to have to re-buy it on the Nook store just because I have a Nook vs a Kindle.
They need to figure out how to encourage folks to come to the stores, and I think in some ways Apple has it right. B&N needs to make a big commitment to having resources where folks can come in and play with the devices, get drinks, sit and enjoy a quiet reading environment, etc.
I don't think it'll save all 700 stores, but it could create a good long-term strategy for them.
