[Q] should i? - HTC Incredible S

ok, soon i can get a new phone... thank god its about time... after a year of struggling with this hell of an device called the SE X10i o.0
now im lookin for a phone where the bootloader isnt that hard to crack xD
and came to the point of htc as many ppl told me to look at...
would you guys suggest me this phone, or should i wait a little longer for a different one?
and how is the life-time of the battery? (l0st.prophet posted that the battery lifetime is about 24hours, which sounds awesome, can more people confirm this please?)
tbh the speaker cant be worse than the one from the x10i so im not very worried about that xD
thanks in advanced for the reply's ^^

Well it depends really ?.....what i mean is that currently no root has been found so you will have to make do with the current stock rom....this is a major down side for me as i prefer stock android....other than that ...great little phone ....battery life is good does last alot longer than xperia which i had about 8 months ago and is also better than my desire hd which i also currently have....also speakers not bad at all....better then desire hd again. All in all its a nice little phone ...just no root yet

Speakers better than the DHD? Really? Sounded tinny and low quality to me durung the demo I had with the device ...

@menov, little? I though it would be the same size as the x10? Ty for replys

little as in everything is little once you hold a desire hd lol....due to its 4.3 inch screen....but phones the same sort of size as the old desire.....dont think its as big as x10 though ....although most of the bulk of the x10 was from the frame.
As for speaker....it could be better ...but it is definitely a step or two up from desire HD as i did another test today and played two identical mp3 files ans you could here the incredible s alot more

.....just a quick post to say that put them side by side just now and they are both pretty much same size just DHD is a bit harder to hold and text with one hand.
Also although the incredible s is not that much louder...the music seems to have more depth. just thought id mention it

Look at later posts by me to see comparison images

Thanks allot mate for all your efforts

Thanks, that's a good guide. I tried the IS against the DHD in store and although they are not THAT much different in size they certainly feel it!
I have to say, the IS does look incredibly classy there ... very tempting!
Any chance of a pic with the screens on btw, maybe displaying the same page or something?
If anyone has any sample images from the IS I would also be very interested to see those.

I just pre ordered a Inc S here in Denmark, and i should recieve it at the start of april.
I have a HTC HD2 with Android NAND now, so im looking forward to run original Android soon.
Hop that perm root its ready then and that there will be more accessories avalible in april.

I'm hopefully gonna be getting some help from an experianced dev on the rooting front, and I have contacted HTC about what accessories will be avalible and when (I personally want a car dock and desktop cradle) so I will post as soon as I get a reply

I am actually surprised that this phone hasn't been rooted already - even with the relatively short time it's been available.
I hope this isn't a sign that the devs are going to pass on this one - I'd like to see a LeeDroid rom for it and would be gutted to think it won't benefit from the support the Desire / DHD gets.

Edited Pics as was causing crashes on some browsers due to image size...should be a post further on...showing pics

Bigger is better - but i still prefer the Incredibel S ;-)

Thanks for the pics menov321.
The one of all three really demo's the difference between the DHD And the other two. The colours of the IS make the DHD look terrible. Can we assume that all settings on each are as close as can be to each other and this is exactly the same image background loaded onto each.
If so that's quite some demonstration of the poor quality of the DHD screen!
I'd be interested to see comparison pics of the DHD and IS displaying a graphic heavy website and also a video file or something paused to show the blacks and the contrast. I realise that's a tall order though -maybe I should just get one! lol

exactly the same image file used as just dropped the image onto each sd card of each phone ...and screen brightness is turned to full on all phones

Again i removed images as were too big..

@menov321
Would be nice if you could resize the images in your post. Or add them as attachment. Some of us are still using old mobile browsers you know

hahah...ok
hope this is better ...

This means that the TFL3D for Touch Pro has some differences compared to the Diamond I guess.

No way!
Grrr. I wish HTC hadn't come up with this thing and just left it at the Diamond. Makes my life so hard.
On the one hand, it has slightly better stats. Little more RAM/ROM... but... I'm coming from a 64MB RAM device anyway and it looks like custom ROMs are on the way to giving us more than enough free RAM on the Diamond.
There's the 50% bigger battery... but... there'll be bigger batteries for the Diamond, and more and more power issues are being resolved each day.
There's the keyboard which looks tons better than on my Hermes... but... I barely use it more than 5 mins a day, and I'm sick of such a fat device and the Diamond is oh so slim and sexy. But then, even the Pro is slimmer than my Hermes.
The camera has a flash... but... it's not a proper flash anyway and I don't take a great deal of photos where it would help anyway.
There's the useful MicroSD slot... but... I barely use all of the 1GB card in my Hermes.
It's coming later than the Compact IV... but... not so much later that it wouldn't be worth waiting for.
It's just not fair, too many choices!
EDIT: And now it looks like it might be coming about the same time the Compact IV is released? AARRGHH!!

well, folks. support for "HTC video out" is present in the registry if you look. I see no reason why video out is not an option for Diamond owners. you would need HTC video out cable of course.

My current phone is 1,4mm thinker than the PRO... so I should be fine... although it looks quite bulky right next to the Diamond. But who cares if you get flash, battery, mircoSD slot, more ROM/RAM and a keyboard with it...
And maybe it comes earlier than expected
BTW: I fully support the request for a HTC Touch PRO ROM-developement sub-forum. General and accessories could be merged to a PRO/Diamond forum since everything is so similar.
Here is one comparison shot taken from phonescoop.com.
I took the side area of the Touch Diamond placed it over the Touch Pro (red area). Doing this gives a good impression how much more thickness the Pro adds to the Diamond layout. It actually does not appear that bulky anymore... I guess the Diamond simply is that slim
Update:
I took a better photo from ppcw.net - looks cleaner now...

Large capacity MP3 player >150GB

My 160GB Ipod Classic has finally died T_T The battery's not holding a charge at all, I'm thinking of getting it repaired but I'm worried something else'll fail shortly as it's had heavy use. I've been researching alternatives but all the threads etc I could find are a few years old, so what's the situation these days, are there any decent/inexpensive MP3 players with at least 150GB of storage out there? Any sort of mini hard drives with screens or anything? Or is the ipod classic still my best bet? Cheers

Obvious troll is obvious.
If you don't care about bulk archos has some massive pmps. I have a 4.8 in 250 gb but I can't use it for anything other than in my car just because its so large.
Cheers, good shout - what do you think of the Archos 48?
It's alright. Nothing special (and the resistive screen sucks after being spoiled by capacitive screens), charging (through a proprietary cable) is slow and the GUI sucks, but you can't beat the price for the capacity (I got my 250gb for like 170 a year ago).
I should add that the battery is fairly long lasting from a full charge and that in order to play movies and certain file formats (you'll be fine with mp3s) you have to buy format packs (which I find to be an obnoxious and money hungry practice that Archos should be ashamed of).

Yeah 500GB for £100, seriously tempted - £26 (independent site) to repair my 160GB iPod but like I said, something else could just fail as it has received heavy use. Had a look and it doesn't look like there are any ROMs for the 48, would be nice to pump it at least up to froyo... from the dimensions the 48 doesn't look too bulky, still pocketable?
Pocketable-maybe, but the weight is a pretty big factor. Not to mention that it's almost an inch thick (doesn't sound that bad until you have it right in front of you. I can post pictures for comparison to my Xoom or Nexus S if you're familiar with either.

Manufacture defect in our screens? Internal Dip?

The day i got my Galaxy S4 i went straight to charge the device. I left it on my nightstand which is under a window and when i saw the reflection of my blinds through the screen, they where bent out of shape and the reflection looked distorted. Looking closer, the screen seems to have a circular dip in the middle left-ish area. All the devices I tested this do not have a distort. (iphone 5 and 4S, the SIII)
I'd like for everyone to look at there device and make sure they don't have this also. I cant check the devices over at carrier stores, abit busy sadly...
I've given a Sample of lines that u can use as a test and also left a quick video, ill try to make a better one but its all i could at this moment. Also its extremely hard to get it on a video vs what u see in person =/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ej5VCPnKls
Best way's too test are as follows.
1) place your phone right in front of you on your computer desk and look at your Monitors reflection. It works extremely well when you look at Lines or a lot of text.
2) Look at a bunch of stuff that's well lit.

Man, I have exactly the same problem and the easiest way for me to see it is to have a reflection of a fluorescent tube on the black screen. It's ugly! My first galaxy s4 had dead pixels, my second galaxy s4 had scuffing all over it, a large scratch on the MICRO sd card port, overheated and would constantly shut off, followed by the display that completely died a day later. Sprint advised me to give the HTC one a shot. As soon as I got the HTC one home, noticed paint run off, gaps between panels, dings, dents, pretty much the poorest quality control standards I have ever seen. Now I have to find away to get sprint to allow a FOURTH return on a 600.00 device. I may have to get mean, I dont like to act that way, but what sprint has put me through to obtain a working 600.00 high end device is not acceptable, I would not wish the experience I am going through on my worse enemy.
Im not picky, and I understand mistakes when they happen. But two damaged/defective S4's, and one damaged/defective HTC one in matter of 7 days? I really cant even believe it.
All I buy is Samsung products when it comes to electronics, never in my life have I EVER received two defective units in a row. I feel like a crazy crack addict every time I go back to the sprint store and request a replacement. If sprint didn't have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee, I would be out 600.00, because there is no way in a million years samsung or HTC would take responsibility for scuffing or damage to the body of the device. Even with sprints 14 day satisfaction guarantee, you are only allowed 1 device exchange. So basically, im entitled to nothing with this issue, and any day sprint is going to show me the door or refer me to Asurion for a 3 day old 600 dollar phone.

This I found results from the phone incorrectly detecting the white balance.
It is easily fixed by pressing the picture button and holding it while your phone focuses and measures the shot. Then a second later release it and the results are a marked difference.
To those using any camera with a half and full press button this isn't a large surprise but with the trend to simple tap on smartphones I find this easily overlooked.
Thanks

I didnt know about the hold focus either. I felt it wasnt obvious because the N4 unlike htc's and iphones doesnt do an instant photo. it does the shenanigan of focusing with the ring and all the jazz so one would assume it would measure its white balance then. Anyway you live and you learn

[Q] Fake HTC One?

Hello, a friend of mine has bought me an apparently real HTC One from russia. As he said, it was about 100€ cheaper because of taxes and stuff like that.
When I got that device, it was all okay. It looked very legit, until I have played some games without and tried out some benchmarks.
The phone I had before was HTC One S, which seemed much faster to me. I have ran some benchmarks and noticed it is getting much less scores than a HTC One is supposed to be.
Here you can see the result of Antutu Benchmark on the device:

Also, take a look at this weird "Brand: htc_hk_asia". It doesn't look very legit:

When I asked my friend, he told me that it's just a software problem... which I can not believe.
I was already convinced that it is a fake, but I wanted to make sure.. is it one? What can I do?
I appreciate any help, thank you in advance.
It does look very strange. Here is a screenshot of mine. You don't seem to have much internal storage!
If you phone was new and stock you should not have root access (I rooted mine on day 1 ). Also I'm pretty sure "alps" did not build the official HTC One. Then the board, hardware and display models aren't even similar.
I would definitely call this a fake, even the status bar at the top looks different. Do you know what ROM this phone is using? This might be stated in Settings>About>Software information.
According to the AnTuTu Device Info, the rear camera is 13MP. The real phone has a 4 Ultrapixel camera. I'm pretty sure that isn't a software problem!
I'm not sure what you could do, apart from take it back to your friend.

Thanks for the answer!
It was new and completely unopened... well, at least it looked like that. The first weird thing I noticed, was that the battery was charged to something like 57%. I am not sure if this is normal or not.
Here is a screenshot of my "About" menu. Sorry for the text being in german, I hope it is still recognizable.
Also, I have compared my phone with pictures of a real HTC One - it seems very legit... is it possible that someone just exchanged parts of the hardware?

Difficult to tell from that screenshot, but the battery when new is normal. Mine was charged at about 45% when new. Does the phone feel of high quality? It should be nicely built with an aluminium body, with the 2 front boom sound speakers sounding nice and clear.

That is a worrying good copy! It says the fake has a 720p screen but the screenshots show 1080p. Still, that seems to be the only similarity to the real HTC

Lol at his picture....
He has 1gb internal storage.
It is a fake for sure. Plus hardware is the same as the link I posted, ir isn't using a Qualcomm chip
The screenshot thing could be wrong, it doesn't test the screen res but looks at the hardware info which would be easily to fake
Hmm, okay. Seems like it really is a fake, unfortunately.
I can't really tell if it feels high quality, it is not really heavy and not too light..
Thank you everyone for your help!

Hopefully you can get the phone sent back. It's a shame to see such a beautiful phone copied from a cheaper supplier.
