is the screen better than atrix? - Motorola Droid 3

that's the piont,not the 512ram...

You might want to ask this in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165410 as I think some people have already stated that it is better

So what would you say.......

To convince someone that FLASHING the ROM on their GalaxyS or Desire is better than STOCK ROM, most people in general will not do this kind of thing lack of knowledge on the subject plus the thought of breaking it
So in order to make someone feel the need to upgrade from FROYO to GINGERBREAD with S-OFF bootloader etc.......how could you simplify it in a way they will understand
I don't convince them. Its their phone and their prerogative. I do link them up to XDA though, and go through basic benefits like smoother operation, better optics, overclocking, some great root only apps etc. But, in the end, I leave it up to them if they want to flash a Custom ROM or not.
Besides, another reason is because I wouldn't want to play tech support every time when each of them run into potential problems flashing ROMs, or experience ROM bugs. Another thing is that most people I know with Android phones get intimated and give up reading the first few intro threads for their device, no matter how simple.

Some of them simply don't want the hassle.
Gingerbread has security fixes and added features. They like music? What about all those equalizer apps only available to 2.3? I'd also mention the option (for low internal memory devices) that rooting allows (in CM at least) apps to be moved to the SDCard that stock does not. I'm sorry if that wasn't what you were looking for, but those are some reasons I gave Sparky (and He's clueless about this stuff)

A lot of cool reasons, but most of them just wants a phone that works...
I've been there, and I have managed to get a few (just a few) to move over to Android. Another girl I know is planning to move up to Android as a legitimate smartphone instead of BB. And almost everyone in my church will be switching over to Android (including my pastor). So... I guess tech-evangelism works?
if his your son then sure he will listen to you , but to convince people to do that its quit harder reason because they are afraid maybe or something
usually to convince someone to buy something you have to show him\her what this thing can do , so probably you need to show him some vanilla love or just let him\her suffering of Froyo

[POLL] Which rom?

Hey Yall, I'm a longtime cappy user,
Have had a couple already but I have moved on to the Atrix, great phone btw,
But the cappy still holds a special place for me. Anyhow, I would like to get everyone's help in deciding roms for my Dad and Wife, Which I'm giving cappy's to as presents.
Now The main reason is that I would like to keep in touch using the gtalk voice application. (I travel alot and this is very usefull when I'm abroad).
So , in you guys oppinion, what would be the best ROM for people who don't mess with the phones and just want them to work and being able to use 2.3+
Thanks
Gabe
its all about personal preference. cant really have a 3rd party tell em whats best for them. threads like this gets closed quickly.wth that said already, there's stock 2.3.3 KF1 for i897. i think stock is best for non-phonemodders
Yeah, I tend to agree with that stock would be best. But the thing is that I think google talk voice and video capabilities are dependant on it being 2.3.4 or +.I'm not sure,
Basically I would like to know about the roms that aren't as jumpy as other. Because As I Agree with it being a personal user problem, whn my fam have phne problems it usually falls in my lap.
Thanks,
PS: I hope this tread dosen't get closed as fast as you say, I figure it's the Q/A forum, if it cant be posted here, where can it, right?

They are looked down upon. Each developer puts their own time and hard work in to their roms. And having whoever say this one is best and that one sucks is not called for. Because everyone has their own opinions and no two are the same. Same for every rom they have their differences. which people may like and may not like.
Is why i look down on best rom threads.
I respect that.
I have hoped to have worded differently where What I meant was:
The ROM that has been toughly tested, and isn't dependent of users expertise on CPU OC, Configuration Files, Knowledge of ROOT explorer, SQL Browsers, ETC. (under the hood stuff)
Something that doesn't necessarily offer all the configurations options, that might get someone in trouble, that also offers the current latest android subversion.
I guess it's too much of a complicated question for a just simple yes or no.
So I guess I'll just find myself content in have asked.
I ment no harm in my comment but,
If you don't want them messing with so so or having this or that as an option then just leave them on stock like CremeFraiche had said (And maybe with lag fix kernel, if its still around) or teach them (if they are willing to learn) what stuff means, dose, and how it works. They in turn can decide on what they would want to suit them best.
I hope some of this can help you out

I think a great fit for ur Dad and wife would be Cognition 5 v1.00
Based on the leaked I897UCKF1 Gingerbread 2.3.3
MIUI definately!!!!!
Sent from my I897 using XDA Premium App
I would say Apex 8.2 or Serendipity 7
As far as GB ROMs go, I've only tried Apex. I liked it, it has good performance and runs pretty smooth. I haven't gotten around to trying out the other GB ROMs yet so I can't say anything about them. However a rooted ROM might not be the best to go with for them. Both of my parents got Captivates so I could be their goto guy for instruction and debug. I think giving them a Rooted phone is just asking for additional trouble. I think a stock ROM with a nice theme (if you want them to be a little different) is the way to go for them.

[Q] Best Kernel - Bang for Buck?

We all know this question has been asked many times before; but that's just it, times BEFORE. With the Nexus One, things have changed, IE: newer ROMs and Kernels. I though I would just ask the following to find out what's best now-a-days. (But if this question has been asked recently, please forgive my dumbass-ness, I will remove this post then.)
What's the best kernel for the N1? I'm looking for something not much as 'overclocked' but something good on the battery yet is powerful enough for smooth animations. BTW: I'm on the latest MIUI. I guess I'm saying BatteryLife>Performance (never thought I would...) Thanks.

lol exactly....

Why the OB is not that great...

Mmmm The Optimus Black is a phone classified in the upper mid-range phones, sporting 1Ghz and a very nice and sleek design and a brilliant screen!
BUT.... I own an Optimus Black since this February, replacing my broken Motorola Defy which i adored...
In the beginning it was just amazing! First thing I did was updating my OB, enjoying the 4" NOVA screen, and sleek design!
Everything was alright but, you know, a phone is boring without rooting and flashing!
There's the problem....
LACK OF SOFTWARE SUPPORT
... I mean.... Even my old Motorola Defy had a super stable CM7, MIUI, Mokee, ICS and other super cool roms when I bought my OB...
In the beginning I though the Optimus Black was more popular than Defy! But where are the devs...
I realised how popular the Defy is, so many users... which means so many devs!! ((
It is undeniable to see that the Defy forum have 1000s of devs, all helping each other, pulling out roms from their imagination...
Without sounding selfish, It is sad to see our community being small, compared to the other popular phones.
Today I checked the defy in development section, and they already ported stable CM9, MIUI v4, Mokee, and even CM10, AOKP and CM10!!! WTF...
However, I think the real culprit must be LG who delivers horrible software support...
An ICS coming probably next year..... OR NEVER
An incomprehensible laggy software on a 1Ghz device....
No significant response to customers' demand...
Make empty promises...
They prefer to make new customers, and leave existing ones behind, however, do they have an idea how important existing customers are?
We are the one who create and alter the reputation of LG. New customers are not unlimited... There is a boundary...
In other words, not caring about us, existing customers, will downgrade their reputation, and new customers won't exist for them...
I think the Optimus lack will be the last Lg phone I'll ever buy....
Lg is supposed to keep us satisfy with their OWN product as long as possible, by providing software updates...
It should look at Apple, who, though being a quite greedy company, at least provides software updates to older iPhone/iPod models!
By doing this, it shows how supportive it is for their existing customers, and new customers will say: "Wow, I'm sure to use my iPhone for at least 2-3 years!"
LG seems to be the greediest company....
Damn how I miss my Motorola Defy
One thing for sure, I probably won't miss my Optimus Black
Next will probably be a Nokia, Motorola, HTC, well anything else except LG -__-
Well that's what I wanted to say... I really wanted to share my feelings about LG and stuffs... Sorry if it is an inappropriate place to do it xD
There are points where I may sound unfair or selfish, but hey it is my opinion... We may discuss about it, but don't flame me...
Just a short question: Why did you buy OB then? You could have looked into the forum even before buying the phone... And why didnt you rebuy a Defy, if it was soo good? We all know, how bad LG software support is But I think the main problem is, that only few ppl got the device and can contribute to it... Why dont you learn more about android yourself and try to contribute as well? Wouldnt that be a point to begin with? Plus we simply got a "bad chipset" or at least it is hardly supported by TI :/
I think its not a bad chipset but bad supported one by TI..
They want to sell the OMAP 4/5 chipset, that's understandable in TI's point of view.

i bought the OB because it looked soo good and was the cheapest I could find for such quality... Eh.. rebuying the same phone.. My dad would probably say "U mad!?" lol If I was allowed, I would rebuy the defy definitely...
I am not disliking the Optimus Black at all, but only the creator behind it...
Learning more about Android... mmm maybe it's possible for me since I'm in holidays Maybe coding, etc....
But it will take so much time before even helping expert devs xD
True that TI sucks! So many things don't work well or is unsupported by TI
If only OB had a Snapdragon... lol we would get Sense lol...

Oh that's rather good news!
all phone makers suck at software updates (only 10% of the market has ics). the difference is made by devs or lack of them in this case.

well well gentlemen, its technology and we are humans with wants that's why some might find that ob sucks
if you just sit and see about each and every phone, also think about your beloved ob's capabilities and what you loved at first...you'll find it pretty good again
sometimes i think about just updating blah blah then i say to myself...its a phone dude!
not a console, not a tv, not this and that...it serves its purpose (youtube, facebook, HSDPA, skype......................)
if we see well, by flashing everytime (though its fun) we just dont use the device for its intended purpose
i still want updates and new stuffs though

well.. guess that means LG listens, even if they mostly dont respond.
This is my first lg product and im pretty happy, but I just cant for the life of me figure out why they wouldnt optimize battery performance themselves... it seems so.. lazy
Just wait for d final release of ICS til dec.

I think that the OB its a very good phone, its cheap, light, fast and very customizable...
However, the battery sucks!!
You say in the title that OB sucks, and yet the only thing you complain about is the lack of support by LG, and consequently lack of stable shiny roms
That does not make a phone suck.
It still works above average with GB and some custom roms, that give it a really good performance and battery life. As you also say, it's a mid-range phone, and for that category and quality/price ratio, I believe it's one of the best phones out there.
Don't get me wrong, I'd also wish we had more support from LG no doubt. I just don't think it's fair coming here stating that a phone sucks, just because it doesn't have the roms you like.

A phone with a lack of software support or inferior OS makes the phone quite not worth buying! What will be a phone without a good OS/rom?
Take example; nokia phones with Symbian S60.
Because of the inferior OS, many people say these phones sucks, and they are not wrong...
The software also represents a major part of a phone's quality.
Another example: HTC HD2 has a tremendous amount of roms, even extending it's OS support.
yet having an inferior hardware specs than OB, I find the HD2 a great phone, not only because of it's huge software support, but also for it's stable rom, making the phone just even better..
It is not about the roms i like personally, but it is about satisfying ALL OB owners...
The battery life of the OB can still be improved by much, IF LG showed software support by optimising the OS for the OB.
Agree that it's one the best mid-range phone for it's quality and price, but just far away from the elite ones (Galaxy S/Xperia Arc,Nexus S,etc)
Moreover having TI processor makes the OB even less appealing for devs and LG...
Of course my arguments may not be the ones you'll agree with... since it's my opinion...
So according to me, the software determines whether a phone is good or not.. You may not be of the same state of mind as me
I appreciate that you show strong arguments for saying why the OB doesn't suck, this will keep a balance and prevent bias or any conflicts, as my objective was not to create bias, but to show my opinion about it, AND to allow other users to express themselves about it
Are you seriously comparing Symbian with Gingerbread? That's not a real argument, sorry. If Gingerbread was as bad as Symbian I would be the first to toss my phone out the window.
Gingerbread is not an inferior OS (like Symbian), it's just outdated.
Of course software is very important, who said it wasn't? That's why we all love Android My point was that just because OB doesn't have the last shiny version of ICS, doesn't make it garbage.
It still has a very good mobile OS and very good specs, regarding its price. So it can't suck, sorry

Hmm.. Honestly i find Symbian Belle FP1 as efficient as Gingerbread... I would fall for a Nokia Pureview 808 anytime xD

[Q] I'm elagible for upgrade tomorrow...

Eligible, not elagible...
I will be purchasing a brand new, in box, LG G2 from Verizon even though I could get the G3. Why? Because the G2 is more developed and from everything I have read, is better in a few ways (Same mAh battery, but charge held better and build quality is greater, etc). If you disagree, let me know why please. I can still reconsider after all...
I just have a few questions. I did search the forum before hand, but found an overwheling amount of information. Processing it all will take a while so I figured I would ask here and see what the already informed have to say.
What is the best way to root currently?
For warrenty purposes, what is the best way to unroot?
I've seen some things about a flag in "Download Mode" that flips when rooting. Does the unroot method above address said flag in "Download Mode"?
In your opinion, what is the best AOSP or AOKP rom to flash?
What recovery should I use, if any?
Any tips I should hear?
Thanks for your time. I'm still quite new with all of this stuff, and just want to make sure I get it right. Better to ask questions than to guess, right?

For warrenty purposes, what is the best way to unroot? - The return to stock guide in the General section

In your opinion, what is the best AOSP or AOKP rom to flash? Carbon or Gummy
What recovery should I use, if any? TWRP, use Autorec to install it, there's some hoops you gotta jump through to get receovery on 4.4.2, it does it all for you.
Any tips I should hear? Be warned people are getting damaged displays from time to time flashing roms, your phone will be covered under warranty the first year so return to stock and exchange it if it happens.

Stick to the G2. G3 is still new and to me its not really worth the upgrade in my opinion. I actually traded an s5 for my current g2. Best trade I done.
