[Q] Besides G.Tab, any other Tablet that offers 'Phone' abilities via SIM Card? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently own a Samsung Tablet with Phone functionality via T-Mobile, I'm wondering if there are any other tablets out there that offer this capabilities (hacked or not hacked)?
I use T-Mobile, so itd have to be compatible with T-Mobile/SIM Card... or is the Galaxy Tab my only option?
Love my tab as phone, so much real estate on the screen it's amazing, totally outweighs the size of the phone... just wondering if i have more choices out there

I believe the flyer and the 8.9 tab

I believe by following this below treat, you can enable the phone function (for european version). Mine is unbranded and unlock (Asian version), that why I can use the phone function.

[Q] Question about wi-fi only galaxy tab

Can I install any ROM on the wi-fi only Galaxy Tab? or do I need to use a particular ROM for it?
Wifi-only Tab (P1010) is a completely different beast from 3G (P1000 CDMA or GSM) Tabs.
It has different CPU (Texas Instruments OMAP) and other hardware and no 3G ROM will work on it. It requires different kernel and I am not even sure whether partition layout is the same. All it shares with P1000 is form factor and name.
@technomancer. Dude, im from philippines and im using a galaxy tab gt-p1000 korea. Can i change it to gingebread 2.3?

Well that really sux. So unless devs pick up the wifi model its not going to look so great in terms of rooting and development. I will hold back and see what happens first.
Being a complete noob to all of this I'm confused about the hardware differences between the wifi Tab and the phone Tabs. The PDAnet database lists the wifi with a Samsung-Intrinsity S5PC110 CPU which is apparently identical to a bunch of other Tab phones (ie. Verizon Samsung SCH-i800 Galaxy Tab 7.0, NTT DoCoMo Galaxy Tab 7.0 SC-01C). Is the database wrong, or is there something about CPU manufacturing I don't understand?
Again, I'm just askin' cause I'm completely new to all of this stuff. After one week I really love my brand new wifi Tab, but I can see how I might like to play around with it after awhile. Hopefully you guys won't have to start from scratch for wifi development?

[Q] Which is the best model for hacking?

I discovered there are multiple models of the Galaxy Tab 7", and I want the best one for rooting/romming/modding etc. Basically I need to root it, allow it to connect to an ad-hoc network, take out some unnecessary features like Samsung's pre-installed software that I can't uninstall, and make the most out of the tab because I plan on keeping it several years.
I currently have the GT-P1000, but I live in America and it's not the most convenient version with the European power supply and constant request by the tablet to put in a SIM card. I want to get the Verizon version but I've seen various things on how well it's been hacked. If I were to get an American version, which one would be the best for modding?
Definately get the ATT version. Its basically like the European tab with some branding. Most of the firmwares and kernels are made for GSM tabs and work perfectly with this tab. Its super easy to root and upgrade the firmware to gingerbread. I know from experience (its the tab that I have)

[Q] Questions: AT&T Galaxy Tab or Unlocked Galaxy Tab?

Greetings,
I am in the market for a tablet and I am considering the Galaxy Tab 8.9. AT&T in the US is offering a deal where if you buy and activate an AT&T locked 8.9 Galaxy Tab you get a free Samsung Galaxy S2 or S2 Skyrocket.
Here are my questions:
1. What are the benefits or drawbacks from buying the AT&T branded and locked Galaxy Tab 8.9 versus the unlocked Galaxy Tab as shown here on Expansys: http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung...16gb-android-tablet-black-850-1900-3g-223265/
2. Is the AT&T Galaxy Tab easy to unlock and use sim cards from other countries when traveling abroad?
3. Are there any other differences hardware wise between the AT&T Galaxy Tab and the one in the link above? I cannot find any and have checked multiple sites for information.
4. Would it be possible to flash the rom of the unlocked Galaxy tab to the AT&T Tab?
Any help or opinions greatly appreciated!
I will try to answer you the best I can.
1. AT&T version is faster and newer from my knowledge, but with far less developmental support. ATT supports 4g and LTE while the old tabs only do 3g and wifi. The older generation tablets have good developmental support with an ICS port in development. No custom ROMS at the moment for the ATT version.
2. No experience here, sorry.
3. The old tabs have tegra2 chips, while the ATT version uses qualcomm (snapdragon) chipsets. ATT is 1.5ghz while the 3g one is 1ghz. Both dual core. ATT battery capacity is ever so slightly larger as well. ATT version is 2 grams heavier (lol). The ATT one is considered snappier and more responsive from what i hear, but if the 3g one receives ICS then they could be comparable. The ROMS and Kernels from the older tabs are not compatable with the ATT LTE one. The closest thing to the ATT tablet is the Galaxy S II Skyrocket.
4. ATT Tab is only rooted at the moment through a custom kernel. No CWM or ROMS yet.
Hope this helps, and if I am wrong anywhere someone correct me. Thanks.
Thanks for your help that was very informative! I am still curious about the unlock on the AT&T version though because I travel a lot. Anyone else have any ideas about unlocking the AT&T Tab? I did several searches but could not find specific information for the AT&T version. Thanks.

2. It's unlockable online.
SIM unlock
Has the question about unlocking solved? I was looking at the tablet too and wanted to find a way to unlock it? Is there a way to do it after rooting it? I don't want to buy it from one of those unlock website.

8.9 4G 7320 - Any physical (size) difference to 7300 / 7310?

Hi,
Without all the boring details for why etc...
Samsung galaxy 8.9 4G (7320) through Telstra. Looking for a specific case for it which i found on ebay, but it says its suitable for the 7300 and 7310, just like most of the cases i can find.
So i was wondering if there is any physical difference between the 7300/7310 and the 7320 that would mean it wouldnt fit a case for 7300/7310 versions.
Any help is much appreciated.
There are no differences in size between the 8.9 versions.

Yep, agreed. Purchased a few 8.9 accessories from around the place with no problems.

Awesome, thanks guys.
Realise its probably a stupid question but i just wanted to check as its not my tablet. Otherwise i would have just ordered it and tested it out myself.

Is the Verizon Galaxy Tab S2 rootable and retains LTE?

Literally on my way to purchase a LTE Galaxy Tab S2 but don't know if I should get the Verizon or Tmobile version. I want the Verizon one but if it can't be rooted without losing LTE, then I will settle for the Tmobile version.
Anyone wants to chime in? I did a quick search but didn't find a clear, straightforward answer.
TIA!

If you know the model number . Maybe it's easier to identify if it's rootable or not .

Damn, I don't know it. I ordered it in-store and it should be delivered eitehr tomorrow or Tuesday. I guess I will keep my fingers crossed that I get a model that is rootable.
Seeing that the Tab S2 for Verizon is not rootable because of the locked bootloader, I have decided to return it and ordered the Asus Zenpad Z10 instead.
I see that the Asus Zenpad Z8 has already been rooted, so i expect the Z10 will probably be rootable as well.
Now I'm wondering if the Tab S2 was a better buy all things considered, over the Zenpad Z10.
