[kernel] Overclocked ICS 3.0.8 kernel v0.1 (for 4430 only) with tun.ko - Gen9 Android Development

Hi All,
Here is a first release of my overclocked kernel.
This kernel enables 1.1 - 1.5 Ghz cpu frequencies in cpu governor.
- 1.1 and 1.2 are with Archos stock voltage
- 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 are with a slight increase of voltage: 1.4V instead of 1.388V
Usual disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you fry your tablet with this kernel, I don't recommend overclocking at all.
I'm personally a bit against it but as many are interested, here it is. My tablet is apparently very stable at 1.2. 1.3 works a little but eventually crashes. Without voltage increase, 1.3 crashes very early.
Instructions:
- Flash this kernel in recovery along with your build initramfs
- Enable overclocked frequency with your favorite tool (setcpu, cpu boost, system tuner).
- If overclock crashes your tablet, power off with a long press (more than 10 seconds) on power button, then you can power on again and try lower overclock.
By default, this kernel boots at 1.0 Ghz to avoid any issue. I don't recommend using it on 4460, it won't bring you anything.
I also enabled tun.ko if anyone needs it.
Let me know how it runs for you!

Bonjour et Merci
Fonctionne a merveille sur archos 80g9 jusqu'a 1200 mhz.
encore merci

what do you mean with: don't use it on 4460??

nope there are the omap 4430, which runs at 1,0 GHz
and the omap 4460, which runs at 1,5 GHz
for last mentioned overclock to 1,5 GHz doesn't make any sense

Only Turbo models have Omap4460 which runs @1.5GHz by default. Other models use Omap4430- 1.2GHz max

lol, yes
i just woke up

Edit:
Did you include a autoroot methode in your kernel???

thank you, so in theory it could go even higher ?
what value defines the volt ?
the 1400000
Code:
+#define OMAP4430_VDD_MPU_OPPNUCLE_UV [B]1400000[/B]
or the 0x29 ? :
Code:
VOLT_DATA_DEFINE(OMAP4430_VDD_MPU_OPPNUCLE_UV, 0, OMAP44XX_CONTROL_FUSE_MPU_OPPNITRO, 0xfa, [B]0x29[/B], OMAP_ABB_FAST_OPP),

after flashing this i can't enter sde anymore
when i enter sde i just reboot ?
Edit: working now
i need to hold power button and then select developer then release power button and it boots in developer recovery

wow! working great on my 80 G9! thanks letama

My tablet (archos 101 g9) is unlucky with overclcok, at 1200MHz (standard "hotplug" governor) passes all benchs like antutu, quadrant etc. but after a while, "go launcher ex" is refreshed infinitely. at 1300Mhz passes benchs but launching x-plane (flight simulator game) tablet crashes. maybe in my case is necessary overvolt even at 1200mhz. I usually have luck with the phones overclocking... patience! thank you and sorry for my poor englis

No, you should boot Android and copy it to /lib/modules through adb or a root file explorer.

I didn't check this one deeply, but it seems related to tolerance in voltage, I have to look deeper. It seems to play a role in raising tensions, so it could be useful to modify value there.
I did this overclock quickly, I'm out of free time these days, but I'm sure overclock addicts could get better results with fine tuning.

hi, at 1100mhz tablet (archos 101 g9) seems stable, better than nothing thank you again. ciao

First of all thanks for the OC kernel! It works perfect with surdu_petru's first ROM. Unfortunately it does not work with his latest ROM, the deodexed version. The touchscreen does not work at all.
Any thoughts or ideas on that? Will there be an updated version of this kernel?
Thanks in advance!

Can you give me a dmesg quickly after boot ? It could be modules that are not loading or something else.

[KERNEL] R3 - OC 1500mhz/EXT4/CIFS/GPU OC from stock LG kernel (2.6.32.9)

Hi guys!
This kernel is for stock/MCR ROMs only. I've tried to combine all the best bits from existing kernels into this one. This is based on the stock LG kernel.
First of all special thanks to Benee/Cpujuste since a lot the changes are from their kernels.
Features of the kernel:
* OC to 1500 mhz (minimum is 500 mhz but if you don't change it 300 mhz will work)
* GPU/AVP/VDE have been overclocked
* noop I/O scheduler
* Disabled all LG debugging messages
* 64 mb hack
* EXT4/CIFS built into the kernel
Few other misc changes to the kernel config. This is my first kernel so take it easy on me

no need to wipe when installing new kernel ...
ok thank
applied at FR18b2, booting ok, did some testing now :
1.) very positive (for me at least) : LG Gallery works fine with this RAM hack kernel !(zooming ok without black bar !)
2.) LG videoplayer plays 1080p fine !
3.) videorecording with camera mod works fine @ highest settings
4.) quadrant @ 1000mhz : 3218, quadrant @ 1500mhz : 4761
5.) Linpack @ 1000mhz : 36.418, Linpack @ 1500mhz : 54.793
overall : phone seems very snappy even @ 1000mhz, vibration o.k.,
If it´s stable the next 10hrs, i think i will stay with this one, thx !
--------------------------------------------
bugs i found yet :
bootanimation is interrupted when starting 2.nd or 3.rd time (not a big problem)
O2X reboot is not working (reboot & reboot recovery) , or is it because of new CWM recovery 4.0.0.2. ?
tethering not working (tried wifi)
somebody tested the tethereing options with this kernel?

just do a nandroid backup first, when you choose advanced restore, you can only restore kernel if you want, but i would advise you to make full restore if you need to, cause one module (wireless.ko) seems also different ...
not working on stock rom. cant boot
just had some freeze when playing aroung with pimpmycpu, selecting different scheduler & undervolting,next reboot ended in bootloop -> reverted to MCK r14 ...
seems to be more stable at the moment ...

This release is permanently Rooted and Busybox is already installed !
If the first version [email protected]_V01 went pretty hard, now I have made effort to achieve a rapid and stable version -> [email protected]_V02 ;
Now this version comes to the aid of amateur overclocking fans !!!
- so we can overclock our device =>
- Stock 1GHz -> Max. 1.18GHz ( 1.06GHz - 1.12GHz - 1.18GHz );
- Stock 1.2GHz -> Max. 1.32GHz ( 1.24GHz - 1.28GHz - 1.32GHz );
- Stock 1.5GHz -> Max. 1.68GHz ( 1.56GHz - 1.62GHz - 1.68GHz );
Included : 02/05/2012
- boot animation;
- battery percentage, and other new Icon;
- several applications in addition ( Office Free, Root-Browser free, Terminal, FaceLock and ....++);
- enabled init.d for run scripts ;
- windows animations on;
- windows animations can turn off ( see Spare Parts+);
- increase sdcard speed;
- zipaling for all apk in /data/app/*;
- module tun.ko for enable VPN;
- custom Kernel for enable Overcloking;
- other stuff to improve performance ;
How to install :
You can flash this Custom Rom as usual => copy archos.ext4.update into Internal Storage or /data/media/ or /mnt/storage/ ; - than into SDE -> choose Flash Kernel and Initramfs -> here you need to copy zImage and initramfs !
For beginners : you can find installation details here ! => Thanks @Shano56 => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542058
The files you need to install : [email protected]_V02 =>
- download ( ics_blue_update.zip) => https://hotfile.com/dl/154778665/e6b99ad/ics_blue_update.zip.html => https://rapidshare.com/files/3982555368/ics_blue_update.zip

Okay, ignore this post: user error.
Nothing to see here. Move along...
Sorry this version is not running well on my device. It makes it nearly unusable. Every time reboots no matter what I am doing.
For the moment I use your rooted stock 4.06 version. Runs nearly perfect. THX for that.

Some are, and some aren't. Early G9s had OMAP 4430 processors designed for 1.0GHz operation, while later G9s in had OMAP 4430s designed for 1.2GHz but were downclocked to meet demand for the lower-end model. You can read this post here to see how you can determine which processor you have.
While we're talking about overclocking, I see that the new kernel is not overclock-enabled. (The first post is actually a little conflicting on whether the kernel released has overclock capabilities.) Any chance of getting an overclock-enabled kernel with your new tweaks?

Okay im adding [email protected] instructions to my guide. what is the .ext4.update file named?
PS you can tell them to look for the big STEP 4 in bold letters in my guide
for the Buzz in France
http://www.jbmm.fr/?p=27760
For the update, just replace the file ?
First of all ... Thanks.
But, if I'm not wrong this version is odexed ... and we cannot change services.jar to ICS oom fix.
Also with this version and at 1.2Mhz my antuto score decreased from 6200 to 4600 ... spooky.
In the end, I cannot see to many diferences from v1, only OC ...
Regards.

This is inspired by SAMSUNG Infuse 4G, which use the same CPU and do not have 1.0GHz step in its stock kernel.
when there are both 1.24 and 1.0GHz, the governor will prefer to use 1.24GHz. And i thought it may help governor switch between steps faster.
so it won't eat more battery in this case.

There are also include kernel module of ondemand and conservative, you could load them by insmod if you like.

EDIT: unfortunately kernel doesn't work for me - i use it with paranoidandroid and rom was really sluggish at first (maybe cache-related...). then i startet setcpu for adjustments and the phone stopped responding with "colorful snow" on the screen. i pulled battery to reboot. - maybe my 9023 doesn't like 1,24 ghz (it is a bit picky, but 1,2 ghz at stock vol was never a problem).

yea, well, with stock kernel (and thalamus and matr1x and air kernel) everything runs fine, but i wanted to know, if there is a way to find out what exactly causes the problem with your kernel and my phone (which also might help somebody else). - raising the vol does not help that much, still some freezes from time to time (even though i'm above stock vols).

This is RC's kernel, with patches by wkpark for ramhack and OC/UV. Supports OC upto 1.5 GHz.
Thanks to them for all their work. Also, thanks to pengus77 for bringing CM10 to the new bootloader
Built using my guide over here
Uses spica's HP supersonic toolchain
Works with CM10/MIUIv4 ROM on new bootloader only
Download links:
New and recommended powersaver version!
Includes pengus77's wifi drain fix (All credit to him for that)
Non-OC, to increase battery life and stability
RAM hack values 24 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB for increased smoothness
New experimental governors are absent in this ROM, which is meant to be a stable version for daily usage. The new governors have not been properly tested yet and are unlikely to be used by most of the users. They may be included in later builds after more testing. If you want to use them, flash the experimental kernel on the previous page.
This is the version recommended for daily usage. Try the 48 MB one first, and if camera gives problems, then try a lower RH value.
Download link for stable, powersaver version
Link to latest experimental version
Download link for older experimental versions
This is the link to my folder with all kernels for the new bootloader so far, in case you want to try some other version. Ramhack values are mentioned in the file names, and if it supports OC (not every phone will like OC) it is also mentioned in the file name.
Thanks to RC and wkpark, this would not be possible without them.
Warning:
I am not responsible if anything goes wrong with your phone.
If your phone does not like OC/UV, or freezes when overclocked, reduce the max frequency or dont use the OC version of the kernel.
If apps like camera give problem, try to use a version with reduced ramhack value.
To be flashed over the ROM without wiping data. Wipe only cache and dalvik cache
If you are having problems with the new kernel and wish to revert back to the stock kernel, flash your ROM again

Trying the 32mb oc kernel, seems ok so far, will report back any oddities,
I'm on penguss cm10.
i tested..............
Great news. Just two little questions:
- does this work with cm10.1 as well?
- are the Wifi drain patches from pengus77 included?
Regards,
Orgler
Thank u guy's! i will try new_CM10_kernel_1225_32M_OC.zip and report back!

You could try it with cm10.1 but im not sure if it would work. Take a backup first. Wifi drain patches will be included with his permission and when he feels it is the right time (after the testing phase and all)
thanks for the hard work i think u can put like a changelog in thread and the features of kernel listed just avoid people asking same thinks all the time
included wireless.ko is the one patched by pengus? thank you in advance
edit: just checked, it's not the patched one
First impressions are good! Not much room for UV as 1ghz is already at 1000mV which is quite low already I think? But that is not important, just an observation.
Thanks Rugglez. Been waiting a while for an OC kernel on CM10 and no call bug either. This is the future for our phone I think.
I ´m testing the 48M_OC-Kernel on CM10.
I set max OC to 1,2GHz, but Antutu CPU Master shows Peaks at 1,5GHz! The Kernel is always scaling in its full available Range.
I tested it with different Settings and Gouvenours, nothing helps.

I just checked with "CPU spy" and yes it is hitting 1.5Ghz even though I have it set lower than that.
Noted. Will release 1.2 GHz and 1.4 GHz versions separately from next time
With pengus77 permission now, i'll integrate his wifi drain fix too.
Probably tomorrow

So we waiting to test
Can you put in the next update some more CPU governers and I/O scheduler?

Same here oc set to 1.2 but it's scaling up to 1.5 seems stable anyway.
Took one pic and gallery FCed and phone soft rebooted.
With OC 32mb kernel camera and video recording is working.

I do a OC with default cm10 function and on antutu say 1200!
Sorry for being off topic. I really salute new generation of developers for optimus2x who never let us feel our main devs/modders have left. You guys are doing a fabulous job. Thanks to you all.
Gps does not working.
Tested with igo and maps.

rugglez,
Please add pulse boost and hotplug governor. Thanks.

If you need benchmarks, the droid 4 is not for you.

i had xperia pro(its nearly broken) i just want to compare the results to see if they are similar because they are both old phones and i need the qwerty keyboard...and some basic multitasking without lags, it would be helpful if you can give me a screen shot of anutu benchmark of your phone or droid 4, numbers always help to decide when you compare 2 phones.

John
Antutu v5.2.0 on my Droid 4 with Slimkat 8.8 and Lucize jbx kernel scores 16504 @ 1300mhz CPU / 384mhz GPU, and with the CPU fully overclocked to 1404mhz it scored 17112
1200mhz is stock on the CPU and 307mhz on the GPU.

did you compile it by your self? because i am not able to change the gpu/cpu values with root explorer/terminal
*i flashed lucize wip kernel
if its a custom build by you with oc,can you share it plz? thanks !

It has to be the "JBX" kernel, lucize has decided to remove this file from his post for some reason, I've attached it to this post. It's based off dtrail's JBX kernel for the motorola RAZR, you can flash that kernel to the device too but I found the radio signal level would read wrong, so I have always used this one.

seems okay it has overclocked gpu and uv/oc-+ cpu plus governors :good:
i will see the battery now
Thanks for sharing :cyclops:
Hi!
Is it possible to use "JBX" kernel with stock ROM? Or maybe only module that allowing GPU overclocking?

You need to be rooted and have a recovery installed like TWRP / safestrap, you install that kernel zip just as you install a third party ROM through recovery. If you just want GPU overclock don't bother, the increase from 307 to 384mhz only increases GPU performance by maybe 5%, it's purposely set to 307mhz stock because the GPU is bottlenecked elsewhere (ie: memory bandwidth), 384mhz increases battery drain and heat without much performance gain.

When I install that kernel on my stock ROM/partition the phone doesn't even boot...
How much you can overclock CPU?

After much testing I could only get 1391mhz 100% stable, regardless of voltage settings. Could get 1.5ghz to benchmark, but never fully stable. It does speed up the phone quite a bit, but the biggest improvement is simply using a debloated ROM with every APK removed that you can.

Thank you very much but as I said I can't manage to install this kernel on the stock ROM/partition...
