[Q] bluetooth and ics are enimies- dam I gave up- apple u win - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am really about to throw this phone out the window as it really has pissed me off for a long time.
The story goes like this i was on GB listening to music thru Bluetooth on my car stereo and everything was fine, after the ICS upgrade of which i tried all the roms available from stock to custom rom, and the latest Alliance rom, I started to face a weird problem my phone reboots with any ics rom whether stock or custom rom, it reboots after about 30 minutes while listening to music on my sony car stereo only.
What drove me more crazy I noticed my sg2 also has the same problem, so i checked the sg2 site and boy if you type in the sg2 q+a forum ( ics bluetooth ) you will find 4 pages that complain about that issue.
I am fuming now, as it also only happens with my sony car stereo and not with my bluetooth headset ( philips ). Dam Dam, so shall I go back to dam SLOW GB just to solve this grap.
And why exactly after 30 minutes this dam reboot happens with my sony car stereo when playing music over bluetooth
And for gods sake which controls the sound coming out of the device via bluetooth is it the kernel or the modem, AAHHHHHHHHHHH i am about to throw this out the window!!
WHAT IS CAUSING THIS FOR GODS SAKE, dam I miss my iphone

Strenge problem...
same with me..

well i am sure some will blame for the problem

no problem with Bluetooth and ICS here, listen to music on Bluetooth headphones all day every day at work without issues!
on Paranoid Android of that helps...

have you tried setting the visibility to never time out? in ics, after turning the bluetooth on, tap on the note and press menu, you'll have choice how long the phone can be visible to other devices.

I'm on Criskelo's ICS ROM, and I use Bluetooth with it extensively.
Take today for example, I was at the gym, using a BT heart rate monitor, BT headphones, and my phone was also connected to my MotoACTV sports watch, all simultaneously and flawlessly.
When I left and got into my car, my phone automatically connected to my BT head unit, and Spotify continued to play from where I left off (beta Spotify client for ICS is so much better than the regular one!).
I also happily tether my Transformer Prime to my phone via BT.
All in all, Bluetooth and ICS has been a great success for me.

Dave

i will do that and report tomorrow when i drive, although i don't get how that has to do anything with the random reboot after listening to music via bluetooth in my car only,
On the other hand i don't have random reboot on my Philips headsets even if i listen to music for hours quite weird.
do u think it might be wifi related as I have wifi on when i drive and modem on, so do u think its a bug with wifi that causes these reboots when it is in the car and it is on but not in use

I'm running stock ics (german ota), rooted now with a safe kernel (speedmod). BT with my stock FordSync system works flawlessly, and did when on the risky stock kernel, too. Not sure that helps, though it might weed out something for you.

setting the visibility to never time out this did not, again after 30 minutes a reboot happened in the car while listening to music over my sony stereo bluetooth. Dam its driving me nuts.

One thing that I can say is, Sony bluetooth has never been good to my Galaxy Note. It's probably just the way it is...
I have MW600, keeps on freezing. My friend also report problems on his bluetooth headset that prompt him to change.
So, there's a probability that because it is "Sony" the reason why the problem is there.

FM-Transmitter

hi there, I'm looking for a good fm-transmitter to use with my hd2. I use a lot of different cars during the day due to work and the only car that has a line-in is my own. I can't change anything about those cars because they are not mine.
Now I need a fm-transmitter to use my hd2 in those cars. Who has one or had one and can recommend one. I read a lot about ****ty quality and bad reception, that's why I'm asking you guys. and the one limitation is that I don't want one to plug into the car-charger. the one I have my eye on is the Belkin TuneCast 2/3.
I hope you can help me chose a good one.
After some siginificant research, and some very disappointing results with cheap chinese FM transmitters, I bought my wife a Motorola T505, see here:
http://video.google.co.uk/videosear...orola+55+handsfee+fm&vid=-4588731908718964954
Very easy to set up and use, and the sound quality is very good. Battery life is also good although it can be connected to a car charger via it's mini usb (and we all have loads of them lying about now HTC have gone micro, right?). it's well made and just feels quality right out of the box.
All, in all, I'm very happy with the result, especially as it knocks the others for six costwise.
what i would like is something similar to this

so that I can simply unplug it from my own car and straight into the works van and keep it charged with minimal fuss.
My friend has one like this for his ipod and it works great.
Has anyone seem anything similar? or is it too early for products like this to be released yet
I'm using http://www.chronos.com.tw/_products_0616/mp3/Car mp3-delux/Car mp3-delux.htm for 3 years, first with usb stick, later with WM phones.
Just need to switch usb mode on phone to "storage card/disk drive" and you get music from memery card + car charger.
Sound quality is as good as normal fm radio station. Worse than cd/mp3 car player, but usefull for multiple cars.
I am using this motorola motorokrt505 bluetooth fm transmitter it works seamlessly with LEO and Xperia X1 music and phone. It will answer calls and switch between songs in your play list, it will even start your HTC music player without going into the phones menu. Battery life on it is superb I charge it once a week and have never ran out of battery.
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v...57bb110VgnVCM1000008406b00aRCRD&vgnextnoice=1
I ordered a Belkin Tunecast II and will report back soon. It's enough for my usage and it should do the trick, hope the quality is ok.
I have been using the Venturi Mini http://www.myventuri.com/overview.aspx for a while now with my iPhone and it works brilliantly - A2DP stereo bluetooth, a USB connector to enable you to charge your HD2 and it does handsfree calling.
I have been impressed with the sound quality (once you've found an FM channel that is free all the way from home to work). It connects to your phone reliably and simply - press any button when you get in the car and it pairs.
The only problem I have had with it is if you go out of range of it for a short period of time (If you leave for a long period it turns itself off) - when you return to your car it doesn't automatically pair. But you simply have to remove it briefly from the cigarette and push it back in
de5perate,
If I may ask a few questions:
1. Do you use the Venturi to charge your HD2? I believe it only delivers 500mA on the USB, and I'm not sure that's enough to charge the HD2. I wouldn't want to buy one only to find out that I can't charge my HD2.
2. Do you use your Venturi and HD2 for satnav as well? If so, are you happy with the combination?
3. Somebody told me that you could listen to your favourite radio station and when a call comes through, the radio automatically commutes to the Venturi frequency and you can take the call. Is this true?
Thank you very much.
I got the Jabra SP700 yesterday (£34 from Amazon). Only had one journey with it and a quick play, but it seems good so far. The FM transmitter seems nice and strong, and the speakerphone seems to work well.
got my tunecast II today and had the chance to test it with two standalone fm-radios and it seems to work fine, given you place it in a good position towards the antenna. will have a try tomorrow in my car at work, a new VW Passat. Hope it works there as well.

+1 for wanting to know this also. This looks like a good piece of kit.
Also what connection comes out of the unit to charge the HD2? USB?

the HD2 charges from a PC USB connection, there's an option to disable it when sync'[d, so it must do. USB only provides 500ma, so it should be charge, although it might be a little slower than from a mains charger.
The Answer is late, but could be useful for other users

This is true and when your call is finished it automatically plays music back again
The only problem is the backround noise being too loud. It is hissing.
Anyone know how to fix that? I would really appreciate your help.

WOW you have been on top of your work Jellette. I won't use this, but i'm sure there are plenty of people who would want to pass their old phones like Vibrant down to their kids and don't want the cops coming to their home haha
Does this not have the Play Store?
This has no way to communicate. The full rom will eventually come out though.

Good to see you back in the game man.
A side questions though, how do you take screen shots on a kb5 rom??
Well I can see no activity on this thread in a long time and sadly I have to report the rom does NOT work reliably when you use a BT headset. The sounds stops working. Not sure if your even bothering to work on it anymore but thought I would report back

Does it come on and connect but just drop out at times? Does the BT headset work good on any other ROM you used in the past (preferably a 2.2 Froyo).

It seems to be a bluetooth specific issue. Everything works just fine until you try to use a bt headset. When you pair the headset everything works fine but the music no longer plays in the headset or on the speaker. Ever after you unpair the bt this is the case. The only way to make it work is to reboot the unit and no use BT at all. The headset has worked on this phone previously and works just fine even on other froyo builds. I have also tried doing this with the default music player and also loading up poweramp. Results are exactly the same which is why i suspect the bt is the cause. I have also tried using bullet kernel also to o avail as the default kernel doesnt support voodoo sound a HUGE oversight. This I am gonna just have to bail on this rim and move to something like a cm with no gapps great idea but it just doesnt seem to work
I don't think voodoo kernel was used due to beats.audio looks to be installed.
Here is updated / added some Bluetooth apks. I also switched it to Bali 1.8.8UV
Its untested - here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ug8c51fehbe18c7
Appreciate the efforts but no dice. This was a great idea but just doesn't seem to be a reality. Seems like I am the only one truly interested in this anyway so time to throw in the towel and just strip a "regular" rom.
Apparently something got removed that is critical to the Bt working properly.
Thanks again but I am done with this, simply not worth the effort anymore
I hope this wasn't abandoned. I got a new phone and wanted to use this. The Bluetooth thing is essential.

Same here. I'll probably give the ol' vibrant to my fiance's daughter instead of buying her an iPod
...Might get myself another vibrant and put this ROM on it just for music/game purposes
Got my SGS3 last week and have been looking forward to trying this out. Wiped everything and Odin to stock. Installed Moschiach and everything seemed fine until I plugged in my headphones and had no sound. The headphones work in my Kindle Fire and SGS3 so I know it's not the headphones. Any Ideas? Tried reflashing without wiping but no go. Maybe another Odin and full wipe?

Bluetooth headset incompatibility

I am trying to use a bluetooth headset having paired the gear. It looks impossible: the gear forces to have connected the audio in calls that disconnect the headset I want to use.
is there any way to have both devices running at the same time but use only as headset the normal device and not the audio in the gear?
I am able to pair both the gear and bluetooth headset with the note 3. I'll try my S4 to confirm.
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
The S4 is able to pair both at the same time as well. Initially I had to unpair the gear and then pair the headset, then repair the gear.

how to do
I see, you connect gear as device for audio call and the bluetooth as media.
I am doing the same but finally, having both devices connected at the same time, how to redirect the audio of the call to the bluetooth...
Money back!
Finally I confirm it cant work with a normal bluetooth headset. This is fundamental for me.
I am using with n5100 and n7000. Maybe is a bluetooth version problem.
It is obvious than gear screen quality is amazing. But for the rest including notifications communications and so on smartwatch 2 from sony is centurys ahead. Im my case the camera is not important...

Could you explain with facts why is Samsung technically more advanced? I own an mw150 for a long time and it works like a charm. Now is time to change due the screen is broken.
Due some problems with Samsung mktg telling you lies about certain products, this time I will assure 100% on present capabilities each device. Except the ugly aspect and the screen bad quality, rest of the funcionality I claim are included and working in Sony. Again I am not interested in the camera.

When you have the N3 connected to your car using multipoint (more than one BT device) the car takes priority over the Gear. My N3 BT connection to my car controls audio playback, phone calls (initiated and received) using the car's controls, and S Voice on the N3 will pause audio to send text messages et.al. which couldn't be done when using A2DP previously. The only issue I've found with the Gear as it applies to BT is if the phone's got its mic open (EG: S Voice "listening") the Gear will display an error "microphone in use, try again." Other than that it's pretty much flawless BT wise.

HEADS UP: SideSync/BT/Wi-Fi bug!

OK, I don't know if it's "universal" or if there is something unique to my setup at play here but here it is: once you pair your Tab S on SideSync with a compatible device (a Note 3 in my case) via Wi-Fi AND VIA Bluetooth, after disconnecting the smartphone, BUT ONLY WHILE KEEPING THE BT ON on the tablet (and OFF on the smartphone), Wi-Fi speeds on the tablet crawl to almost a halt (and I noticed access points other than the one I am connected seem to ciclically appear/show less signal strenght/disappear...) The tablet is useless when it does like so.
Before I discovered where the issue was, I also performed a factory reset with no success.
Only solution I found (short of uninstalling SideSync, which I like a lot and do use often on my Note 3, Windows PC and now my Tab S) was simply turning the BT off. I was keeping the BT on my tab always on because if/when I turn it on on my Note 3 too they automatically establish call notification mirroring and when I launch SideSync on either device it automatically launches on the other too (normally you have to launch them on both devices)
Since I had no other reason to keep it always on on the tab, this is not too big a deal for me, especially since it is a bug in an app so eventually it will be fixed... The big deal was only the time wasted troubleshooting the issue and the time and effort spent re-setting my tablet up after the factory reset (many hours since I have a "rich" and complex setup and each time do go meticulously through each and every tab's and apps' settings... )
I was just about to send it back to Amazon as a faulty unit and get a new one...
BTW, when functioning normally the Wi-Fi is actually very good: fast and good reception.
Hope it helps anyone who may be banging his head on the wall for the same issue... LOL
P.S. This Tab is AWESOME, only things it needs for me are an S-Pen and bigger internal storage options... (and here in Europe it seems we can't even get the 32GB option GRRRRRR!)

The most recent update to SideSync added a new feature - notifications via BT. This isn't the same as directly connecting devices via SideSync through Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi direct. I found this out when I got a BT pairing request from my N3 after disconnecting it from SideSync over Wi-Fi. Once paired over BT, notifications from either device appear on the other. Also once paired the two devices connect automatically. I'm not experiencing any side effects in terms of Wi-Fi performance when the two devices are connected via BT.

Yes, SideSync was updated with this feature practically the day I got my Tab S (a few days ago).
I was using SideSync with my Note 3 and my previous tablet, a Note Pro, with no issue at all, but that was pre-update...
Also once paired the two devices connect automatically.

Yes, extremely convenient. And that's why I was keeping my BT always on, on my Tab S...
I'm not experiencing any side effects in terms of Wi-Fi performance when the two devices are connected via BT.

Nope, like I wrote, it's not when they are connected that I experience the problem, it's AFTER disconnecting the Note 3 (by turning the BT off, AFTER having done at least a session of "normal" SideSync via Wi-Fi Direct) WHILE keeping the BT on on the Tab S.

I have a Gear so my N3 always has BT enabled. I use a BT keyboard, mouse, and pendant on my tablet so its BT is always on too. I'm guessing the "new" feature uses BT LE because I haven't noticed any battery drain on either of my devices. I think notifications via BT is kind of half-baked. It's not documented anywhere and if you unpair the devices both continually nag you to accept their mutual pairing codes. Let's see if anyone else chimes in with issues. I'd bet there will be another update to SideSync soon; probably with an explanation of the feature and the ability to disable it. SideSync's made by RSupport, one of Samsung's Korean cronies like Hancom and Polaris. Cool stuff but not at all perfect and certainly not well documented. When my N3 started nagging me with a pairing request from my tablet which was stowed in its bag I thought I was being hacked until I figured out SideSync was playing HAL.

I agree, it's the first appearance of this feature and it's going to be refined over time and the fact that this new feature is not mentioned/explained anywhere (nor does it have any dedicated setting whatsoever) sure makes it feel like a rushed first (almost beta) release... Still, it's a very welcome new feature!
Anyway, I am simply going to avoid BT pairing until the next SideSync update and that's it... I too have BT keyboard and mouse for occasional use with my tablet and I also have a Logitech BT 2.1 speaker set which I sometimes use with the tablet plus of course the occasional use for quick sharing of small files between my tablet and smartphone/PC but nothing forces me to keep BT always ON on the tablet (on the Note 3 I use it way more often, especially because I use it for handsfree calling in the car).
Finally, I know what is my my problem with my Tab S. I watch a lot of movies with my Tab doing chores and I am using bluetooth headphones to keep listening to the dialogues when I don't look directly at the screen. My phone (Note II) sit just beside it. They were both paired using SideSync but I was never able to make it properly work, however, once in a while the Tab and my Note tried to exchange information. I think it was also happenening when I was watching movied and receving a notification on my tab and my phone which both of them tried to send to the other via bluetooth and at the same time was disabling my bluetooth functionality on the Tab until I rebootted it. I removed SideSync from my phone now and i'll see if this was the problem.
BT/WiFi issue
I am having the same issue, but it seems that it has nothing to do with SideSync. The WiFi behaves erratically (as described by the initial post) whenever I have the bluetooth turned on. Listening to spotify with my BT headphones is a nightmare.
Anyway......

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi share the same 2.4GHz frequency. A sketchy Wi-Fi connection can impact BT performance. As an example, when I'm using public Wi-Fi my BT keyboard sometimes goes nuts with repeating keys. It's usually because of a crappy connection, too many people on the router, or too many people with wireless devices sitting near me. I never have the problem at home, work, or on 3G. If it's happening at your house you might want to check how crowded the Wi-Fi channel you're using is.
I agree with you. However, BT is not being affected, wifi is. I was an Ipad user and recently changed to galaxy tab s 10.5 and used the same wifi connection (both at home and at work) and BT headphones without any problems whatsoever using the Ipad. It is just frustrating...
I am no expert and I am here to learn and give my input, trying to help and be helped. Sorry....

It might still be related somehow.. I mean it may be the same bug which manifests itself under different conditions.
Anyway, I just tried and I have no issue at all with neither BT nor Wi-Fi while playing some music on my BT speaker set and surfing the web at the same time (also tried doing speed tests, everything works perfectly fine at full normal speed).
Tried with both my router (Sitecom 2.4GHZ) and my brother's (Netgear 2.4/5 GHz) and my speakers (Logitech BT adapter) and my brother's BT headset (cheap no-name headset which he uses for gaming I think)
P.S. it's important to note that it is most probably a simple bug (and that's why I have been calling it that) and not an HW issue because until I disconnect SideSync and turn the BT off on the Note 3 while keeping it on on the Tab S, I have no issue with running *both* BT and Wi-Fi! So NOT a matter of interference and the like...

Most people here have Wi-Fi S'. You'd think systemic problems with something as highly used as Wi-Fi (with our without using BT simultaneously) would be a 15 page thread on the home page of the forum if a lot of people were experiencing it. Samsung and Apple most likely use different brands/models of Wi-Fi radios in their devices. Because one device worked and the other doesn't could mean there's an individual issue connecting to whatever you're connecting to. That, or your particular S may have a h/w problem.

I agree. It's either the same bug I am talking about which is being "brought out" by scarvan's specific HW combination or it's an issue related to his specific device (both HW or SW).
It may be useful to try it on different routers/BT speakers/headsets combinations.
Same issue as reported by OP. I never noticed because I keep BT on both Tab and S5. If I turn BT off on the S5, not only is wifi performance on tab Tab affected, but also the performance of nearby PC on the same network.

I will try disabling Sidesync on the tablet and see how it works. If its ok, I'll enable it again and just disconnect BT on my S4 to see how it goes. I'll get to you guys again on this tomorrow. Thanks for all your input!
You can also force stop it so you don't have to disable or uninstall it. That way you can still use it by just opening it.

The current version was released after OP's post. You might want to make sure you're updated.
I'am using 5ghz highband wireless. No problems with Bluetooth streaming simultanously.
i had this same issue as the op , after using sidesync for the first time about 10 min later it will not connect to my wifi network until i disabled bt as i was using a bt mouse at the time, even had samsung remotely go into the tab to see if they can solve the issue , which they did nothing but cleared data from bt. finally said f it and did a factory wipe, running flawless again now, kind of scared to use sidesync again right now , it took over 2 hours to d/l all of my stuff back to the tab

Ok... So after some tests I can confirm that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi work fine together. Sidesync is the issue.... Presumably remote notifications.
Let's wait for an update to the app f4om Samsung.
Thanks everyone!
Cool

Is it possible to use Sidesync between Tab S and PC/Mac ?
Or only tab with smartphone?
I tried on my iMac and it doesn't find (wifi ou USB)

Battery settings are part of the app phone manager.
You mean this option?

Try to reach it through phone manager. Look at the permissions, maybe you have stopped something?
I will try to connect through bluetooth in my car today and will report later.
Edit: Works ok with my Pioneer xxxxx in my car, no problems during calls.
no issue here.
In Bluetooth settings, when paired to the car cclick on the "!" on the right hand side next to your paired device. Is "Phone Audio" selected? Select if not...you may have to unpair and re pair the phone to the car first.
Battery settings, as mentioned above should be in advanced settings, if it's not there then chances are you've changed something, but a factory reset should get everything back to normal. It's a pain I know but ultimately it should work!
battery settings will be missing if the phone manager app is disabled..
^Yes, but it can be disabled only if you have root, otherwise it's impossible, because it's a system app.
Ok...its seems there are some issue on my phone related to " i dont know"... 1. No phone manager app ( at least it is not in app section under settings) 2. Bluetooth is paired but there is no the phone audio option...
now ill try a factory reset...

Try pairing both ways....delete current pairing (On both the phone & car) and then initiate the paring from the car to the phone, see result, and then delete pairing again and try initiating from phone to car if still no joy. (this worked for a weird glitch on mine where the phone would constantly ask for permission to share my contacts with the car!)
Other than that, sorry haven't a clue...maybe have a word with the car manufacturer?

P9 Lte issues with Car
Seems a common problem of a kind. I have no issues with the Bluetooth connection but I cant ask the car entertainment system to call a phone number it Just comes up and says there is no internet access. Huawei just says reinstall the app.... the app that is used for the voice activation of commands is "Google now" - cant uninstall that. Any Ideas ????
Thanks Meggsy
Anyone had any joy in regards to the car audio issue yet please.
Bought the p9 lite yesterday and have same issue, pairs ok and stereo knows a call is taking place as radio turns off and can see people have answered call as timer appears on stereo display but they cant hear me and I cant hear them.
Have tried all the tips I've found online but still no joy.
Have even tried straight from a factory reset with no accounts set up and still same.
Shame as like the phone and was hoping to get the real p9 on upgrade in couple of months but I really need to have the hands free working properly
