I get your point, really, but the F180 will be announced and maybe out in the market in 2 months or less. The O4X is not even available everywhere yet. Tegra 4 hasn't even been rumored on a device yet, so most likely it will take another year or so to be announced, and a few more months to be released.
2 months isn't that long of a wait and the gap of release dates between the O4X and F180 isn't quite substantial.

i agree if we talk 2 months time, but again, you refer to o4x and facts on its release. as previously said, if the o4x takes so long to be distributed around europe and asia, how long would it take for new model to get around although some specs might sound better.
its not always worth the wait. If it happens to get to your country in 2 months time, sell the o4x if the new model is that nice.

What you said about the Tegra 4 applies to the F180, it might be announced in 2 months but i doubt it will be released this year, probably it will be released in the beginning of 2013 (If the world doesn't end in 2012 ).

What's wrong with today's industry?

Optimus 2x was announced on 16-th dec 2010 and now in mar 2011 is NOT AVAILABLE!!!
Same is true for the rest - Atrix, Samsung G2...
Paper anouncments, with Mont's of NO availability???
2x is already available in s korea.
atrix was announced at ces and is already available in the us.
sgs2 was just announced 2-3 weeks ago at mwc. Recent rumors say it might be available march-april.
So i dont know what youre talking about.
I am talking about - announce and availability. Take for example Videocards - Nvidia announcing 580 (for example) and it is available in a week.
Optimus is available in Korea - great, but i am living in EU
Never mind, obviously i should stop reading announcements other than from stores

Precisely my thoughts. I'm getting jealous of Apple users who get their device a week after announcement. It is extremely annoying when Samsung announces a phone like the Infuse two months ago and doesn't speak a word of it since, with no release date in sight.
Just wait to be spoon fed information from local sources, easy as pie
is release in Korean since 2 month...

I am happy for those of You having it available in their regions. Unfortunately here earliest dated quoted is 21-th of march and i am not sure it will be met
Look at apple (i don like their product, but should admit their trend setting abilities) - announce on 2-nd mar - availability on 11-th!
I know it's not fun having to wait, but I would rather have to wait a few months for a phone instead of buying a current generation phone a month before the next generation is released. Knowing which phones will be released in the near and far future makes it much easier to decide when to buy a new phone. The improvement they should make is make the release dates clearer. I still don't know when the Galaxy S2 or 2X will finally be released.
I am in Sales for years (not mobile phones). And i know that premature (paper) announcements are KILLING Sales! Now Everybody waiting 2 core phones (enthusiast at least ) and i am pretty positive sales of High end today devices suffer!
This is why i rose this topic -
1. They annoy people of boredom waiting
2. They slow todays phones sales (losing money???)
What's the thinking????
There's something to be said for building hype. And besides, in this day and age, with FCC and all kinds of other internet leaks being 100% inevitable, you might as well announce your product in advance as everyone is going to know about it anyway.

Nexus 5 - Romania thread

Hello Wallachian! :highfive:
Here is the place we can talk about Nexus 5 in our country.(specs, tips & tricks, accesories, price, roms & kernels...etc)
Enjoy!
Users have to speak english, also in "national thread".
The price in our country will be for sure around double than the original one...
I hope I can get it from another country such as USA or Germany

Guys, even if this Thread is called "romanian thread", the one and only allowed language on xda is English.
So please stop posting in romanian, but in English in future posts.
I want this device at 2200RON price range
Ok, sorry for my bad post but I was really thrilled about a 'national topic'. Anyhow I must say that the price of Nexus 5 ( or Nexus 4 2013) will be much higher in Romania, around 2500 ron for the 16 gb version and 2900 ron for the 32 gb version.

Sad but thrue, in our country first price is double. When i purchase nexus 4 i expected to lower the price.
After a couple of months, the price will be reduced, for sure. see how N4 or n7 prices evolved during the following months after the launch. I took the second N4 in August at 1600ron (~350e). The same price at which I took the first one in March from Germany's Playstore.
We cannot compare the price in US with Europe, anyway. nobody can.

2500RON is to high.LG G2 is 2400RON on eMag.ro.A nexus device is cheaper. My phone now is an LG Optimus Hub with cracked screen. The touch still works.Nexus 5 will be a big jump for me
LG G2 is NOW 509euros on orange.ro.,standard price. that means around 2200ron.
Nexus 4 was 2200 ron when was first introduced at emag, and then the price was reduced slowly...to 19,18 and 1699ron. Now, its 1549, which is still very good for the phone. I am selling my N4 as we speak.
i know this because i followed closely the price. both for N4 and N7 2012 & 2013. But if you dont believe me, i can search and post the links from other forum, softpedia where the discussion started at the launch of N4.
i can bet that the N5 price will be ~2200 at launch and after January will decrease below 2000 ron.

I purchase my Nexus 4 two weeks ago from evomag.ro, price 1389 RON. Now is around 1600 RON there.
probably it was some kind of sale. If you have said it, i would have sold it mine for as low as 1200 ron, still in box 2y warranty.
So, it has been released! Now we have to wait until some reseller brings it. However, I assume it will be pricey (2000 RON for 16GB version, which IMO is a rip off).

@Octavius69 that's the sad truth. In all the poor/third world countries everything is expensive. Even so, this doesn't seem to stop people buying overpriced things. On the other hand I can understand that the price displayed on Google Play is subsidized by Google, hence the other retailers will have a higher price tag. And this last part applies everywhere. What's frustrating is that Google is not stepping in and release it's devices on more countries.
Going back OT: The 16GB version is available at PC "Garbage" as well (~2100 RON). Let's see if other major reseller will join. I am curious to see the price for the 32GB version.
EDIT: Same device on cel.ro for 2000RON, but still no news about the other one.
I would wait if I knew they will brig the rumored one, which has bigger battery or the 32Gb but I'm pretty sure they will not import it in the next weeks, not in a decent price range at least. Therefore I prefer to buy it now, I was waiting for too long this almost perfect phone.
Stefan, they will bring for sure the 32GB version in the coming weeks. However, please note that the capacity is the same, 2300mA, on both versions (16/32GB). There is no 32GB version with a 3000mA battery. That was pure speculation (just a rumor).
I just purchased mine 16Gb from evoMag at almost 2000Ron which for the 5th day after release date is a decent price. Good luck to finding yours.

Me

[PT] Nexus 5 - Portugal thread

I've searched but I didn't found any thread for the portuguese market.
So, I think that we needed this place to talk about the long waited Nexus 5.
Last year was very to us to get the Nexus 4 (at least at a fair price). Due to the stock crash only in January or February it was available at the main stores like Fnac or MediaMarkt but priced over 550€.
I hope that this year we could have it a lot earlier. Last year Google released some of his services in our country, like books or music. I hope (ok, I haven't that much hope...) they carry on launching their services so that we could have Play Devices but it is unlikely.
Lets see what comes and which retailers would sold it. And we'll alwways have services like forward2me and, my favorite, friends all over Europe

I approve of this post. I've also looked around the Nexus 5 forum and only found a way that involves using Tor and setting up a fake Google account, then buying from the UK, sending to a UK address and having the phone re-shipped to Portugal. This is way too much of a hassle for me and I can't say I fully trust it to work or be particularly cheap.
If anyone knows of a reputable online retailer that stocks the Nexus 5 and ships to Portugal, can you give us a heads up please? Or if you come up with an easier way of getting this candy into our hands?
Handtec has it on pre-sale with delivery expected arround November 11th. It's a litle pricey, it'sm about 359£ to the 16GB and about 401£ to the 32GB version. I'm not sure if we must add shipment dosts to Portugal but if so I don't that is over 10€.
I've read on another forum that forward2me has a special to this device that theeirselves bought the device and just ship it to you but needs to check this.
Thanks, ToneJeco. I'll check out those options. It's a bit of a markup compared to the £299 on Google Play or £295 at Carphone Warehouse, but who knows?

Personally, I'm going to try one of the The Phone House stores (The Phone House = Carphone Warehouse in Portugal, and other countries) and see if they could get a Nexus 5 in. Somehow.
I might do that as well. Did it in Media Markt already (they'll warn me if and when they get the Nexus 5), as they previously had the Nexus 4 for some time.

Fnac.pt will unveil the nexus 5 next week, so next week we'll know if it's an official LG launch or not.
If it is the phone will be available in practically every major chain.
For those thinking about buying via playstore and forward2me it's much cheaper to buy from carphone warehouse (less hassle with mbnet declines, free postage to forward2me and no need for personal shopping)

I'm a litle afraid of Fanc's prices since last year they sold Nexus 4 @ 600€ but things may be diferent if LG make it official. I hope so since they seem to be trying hard to push their image and get their space in the smartphone's market with G2. A Nexus device is always a good way to increase that recognition.
I almost bought N5 this weekend but I believe is better to chill a bit and wait, I really have no hurge so I'll wait to see how the things evolve and how will be the availability here in Portugal. But that price from carphone is very tempting

Nope, you got the same problem. LG wanted to charge 600 for the N4. They'll probably do the same for the N5. So, even if it's an official release, we'll have it for 600€ over at FNAC.

Problem is, it isn't that easy to get CPW to send you anything to Portugal, even through a UK forwarding address. Firstly, because you need a credit or debit card associated to an UK billing address (I don't think you can do that with MBNet) and secondly, you need a real UK mobile phone number, something that services like Forward2me do not provide.
And I highly doubt FNAC Portugal will have the Nexus 5 in the coming week as a representative stated at FNAC's facebook page. Right now, the availability of the Nexus 5 in B&M stores isn't a reality with CPW being one of the very few exceptions so it's highly unlikely they'll have it in stock this week. But let's see what happens.

Hi everyone.
If I buy a Nexus 5 in the UK to use in Portugal (I have a friend in London that can buy it) will all radios work correctly in Portugal? I know GSM is the same in all Europe but what about 3G LTE. Can anyone confirm or tell me how I can check it?

Launch date moved up!

Two websites are reporting the launch date and availability have been moved up from Oct 17th the Sept 26th! I highly doubt I'll have ours in hand by this Friday, but a gut can dream, can't he?

Has anyone seen an official announcement from Samsung about this new launch date?

Yeah? I couldn't care if South Korea gets product today - doesn't help me in Canada. ?
Doesn't help me either, but my point of posting was to find out if everyone was getting a more recent launch date, and if anyone had gotten further information. If India is also being moved up, other countries could be moved up as well.
We are seeing a very low key launch here right now. We were actually the first people to preorder yesterday, even though they have been available for preorders since Friday. The only ads we've also seen are the snarky apple comparison ads, which don't really make Samsung look that great, IMHO.
Looks like Samsung have fail. Is this their first time?
This will be my first Samsung phone.
i wanna get mine early. come on samsung announce it for the us early!
Lol so I read the article on gsmarena... Says Samsung moved the launch date up because "The positive reaction from consumers to those two Apple devices prompted us to launch the Note 4 earlier than previously scheduled. Samsung will be aggressive in promoting the Note 4 as it's true that we are being challenged and pressured amid a difficult situation,"
Really Samsung? How could they be so blind? Apple is androids biggest competitor... So apple releases a phablet and Samsung thinks they are going to release the note 4 almost a month later and not lose market share?
With how little of an upgrade the note4 compared to the note3 I know a few that bought the 6+ to just test the waters. With such a small upgrade they should have had this out on launch day to get as many sales as possible.
I have given up thinking Samsung has a strategy and just realized they are not familiar with consumerism... Especially western consumerism. They need to quit making lame ads about Apple and start copying apples marketing strategies while producing top of the line phones.
ATT website states 10-17 .. i have already ordered .. pre-order for ATT was 19th sept.

What I seriously don't get, is on one hand, they say preorders are sold out.. and then on the pther hand, they say they are moving up the launch date to sell more phones.
How do you sell more phones if you are sold out, and if you wanted to sell 15 million of them, why don't you have 15 million to sell?

Add a fellow Canadian I just want "a" release date. I'm banking on getting it the same time the U.S. does.
The articles clearly state that Samsung is focusing on markets where the iPhone has not released yet.
Another buzz killer is the already advertised pre-order rebate. Ends 10/16.
That does not mean western places other than the u.s will not have a slight chance

I would assume even just releasing it to markets the iPhone hasn't reached yet are fairly small. I doubt apple would target small markets over large. So I still stand with another poorly handled launch.

Yes you are right that after year or two prices cut down but think of a person who bought Nokia 8 and next day it's price cut down.i am trying to say how does Nokia flagship loses its value just in two months.
So? What? Are you new on smartphone ecosystem? Almost every manufacturer pushes new flagship every 6-8 months, making the last one obsolete. 2 years old phone nowadays is very old, that's why no manufacturer provides updates after 2 years. (excluding Apple)
Nokia 8 is 4 months old, of course it's price has come down. First price drop of any phone happens 2-4 months after release.
Look at Samsung s8, it took only 3 months to go from $720 to 570, a price drop of $150.

So?

Yes you are absolutely right.
No offence guys this thread is just discussion regarding price cut , don't get angry :highfive:
Pointless thread, you either pay the price when the device is relatively new or play it smart and buy it after the hype, I always buy ex-flagships for great prices and top features, currently on my LG V20, LG another brand which depreciates a lot. You need to wake up and understand the market. Not getting angry just annoyed at the clickbait-esque thread title and stupidity of it all. God help car forums if you buy one new from a dealership and look at used prices...
Nokia 8 launched in the UK at £499 just over month later you could buy it for £350 and now it is back at £499.
Some you win, some you lose.

Seriously why back to £ 499 ?
No idea.
I do know it will drop in price again and people will be miffed they have paid more for it but that's life with electronics. My Ryzen 5 1600 cost me £218 and it now selling for £158, it is just one of those things.
