[MOD] microUSB to Tab dock adapter (one of a kind!)

I finally received my spare Tab usb cable and a few microUSB SMD sockets and have successfully hacked them together to make a very portable adapter so that all of my existing microUSB cables work on the Tab as well. No more having to carry a different cable with me!
Nice work. How did you mount the female micro so neatly?

A video of it functioning would be awesome. I am interested in making this as well. I actually want to create a full USB adapter. I know there is a schematic of the cable and what each one does. Its just a matter of wiring it up right. Perhaps you can make a how-to? what if you plug a USB thumb drive using a USB to micro USB adapter. Would that work?
From the Tab.

I don't know if it would do anything with a thumb drive or anything else that requires a host port. For a microUSB socket, there are 5 pins, of which 1 is unused when you wire it to a regular usb dock connector like this one. I haven't looked at the pinout posted, but it's possible that 5th connection is to toggle/enable host mode on the Tab. If I get a chance I'll plug in an external drive and see what happens.
As to how I shoehorned the micro socket into the dock port connector, it just required an X-acto knife and some super glue. Soldering on those tiny smd pins is a pain, so if I make another, I'll etch a small pcb and mount it that way.
Great work! Do you have any pictures of the inside of the adapter?
Unfortunately no. I will take pics of the inside of my next project, which is to make a dock connector adapter that'll break out into a microUSB port alongside of a miniHDMI (kind of how Samsung should've done it to begin with). I'll definitely snap some pics then, and post up the Eagle files if anyone's interested.
EDIT: Looking at the pinout thread, it looks like the HDMI dock has all sorts of stuff in there that I had assumed were inside the Tab. I'll probably make another microUSB adapter so I can prototype the pcbs.
EDIT2: For USB On-The-Go, it looks like the unused pin 4 (ID) just needs to be grounded to pin 5. I'll test that too.
Wow, this looks great. Have you thought about making a few spares and offering them up for sale? I would definitely be interested. Let me know
I'm currently trying to track down a supplier of the 30-pin connectors. Seems a very daunting task at this point, since I can't speak Chinese, and the majority of the component suppliers do. It wouldn't be cost-effective to purchase full usb cables with the connectors just to harvest the connector off of them. Also, to even test the OTG functionality would require a dock connector with all the pins (or at least pin 13 + the usb ones); most of the usb charging/sync cables only have 7 of the 30 pins. The only connector I know of that has pin 13 is from the HDMI dock, and that's an expensive way to test.
So once these connectors are more readily available, I'll look into making a batch.

DIRECT connection for wireless charging

Hello guys,
Few weeks ago i read about connecting standard wireless qi usb adapter to phone itself. I mean, connect 2 stripes of cables to 5v and ground on motherboard, so usb would be still avaiable. Do you know where on motherboard those pins are ?

Interesting, I'm trying to find out too. I did a mod that way with my NOTE1. Mostly likely near the USB port, but I afraid it'll affect the NFC , because NFC is on the Cover. And the coil 's pcb must be extremely thin.
I would gladly get rid off nfc anyway, as I don't use it. Voltometer is on its way to me, so any time soon I'll try to update the thread
news pliz??
thanks..
Can wireless charging be used when case is still on the phone?

current Qi is good for 7mm i believe...which is plenty of space for most cases. it wont pass through metal though, and I'm sure some materials hinder that more than others. I used a couple different cases on my nexus 5 and was able to charge with all of them.
The Qi chargers are 12V I believe. I modified a car charger to fit the adapter for the Qi wire. I had to solder it to the 12V wires in the car plug. The 5V would not charge it.
You should be able to find 12V power coming out of the power supply.

[solved]Nook won't charge-possible 1$ solution (needs soldering)

I was looking for a solution to this problem and after opening the nook I found out that on the socket one of the contacts is pushed towards inside - I've strighten it and tried to insert the cable but the cable pushed the contact again. So I glued it with some epoxy glue and currently I'm waiting until it cures.

It turns out that it wasn't the main problem - the nook now is working on power from the charger but it isn't charging the battery. My next try is to solder on a cheap lion charging board from china inside. I couldn't find any 5v test point but there is space for a capacitor near the connector and on the battery connector there are batt+ and batt- test points. This should be enough for the charger.
edit:
Its working!!
i've used a cheap lion charging module from china for 1$. I've cut out the microusb connector, wrapped it in duct tape and fitted it inside the nook.
It's slower than the original charger - only 1A but its working
Hi dkuku,
Thanks for the post.
Could you tell me where the orange USB wire goes?
TIA

Help!! Mhl adapter wiring [n7000]

Plzz... Help me to fix wiring of samsung mhl adapter..
I could be wrong, but it looks like, one of the pads is destroyed (lifted up). I have 2 different MHL adapters here, both have different wiring (dual sided on PCB) but have 6 soldering pins.

Magnetic Cable for Samsung Note 8[Exynos]

Hello!
I would like to ask, what are your best budget magnetic cables for Samsung Note 8 that supports fast charging?
I've come across this magnetic cable from AliExpress. I asked the seller if it supports fast charging for Note 8 and he says it does not, the cable only supports 2 amps.
Questions:
1. What is the best budget fast charging magnetic cable that you can recommend?
2. How many amps does Note 8 stock original cable can handle?
Thank you in advance!
Item from AliExpress (I can't post a link yet)
Item name: PZOZ Magnetic Cable Micro usb Type C Fast Charging Adapter Phone Microusb Type-C Magnet Charger usb c For iphone Samsung xiaomi
I have several magnetic cables, mostly because I want to prevent the port from wearing and debris , but all of them barely reach 1000 mAh, the original cable attains almost the 2000 mAh, btw, I never fast charge, to avoid batt degradation

I get all my cables from AliExpress. I only buy fast charging cables and this one works flawlessly:
WSKEN Lite 1 Magnetic USB Type C Cable
As for the stock cable, honestly, I've barely used it, since I find it really crappy compared to the ones I own and found on AliExpress. Here are some of my favorites should anyone be interested (non-magnetic though):
Rock
Baseus
uGreen
I use the Taslar Magnetic cable bought off Amazon. work well. its a braided cable, tangles less, hopefully frays less. a good buy so far. use it for 3 of my devices!
