Could someone try Rockbox on S3 Mini? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am planning to buy S3 mini. I am using Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org) to play my music and speech files (ogg & spx). Rockbox is very good player for this purpose; I am very used to it and cannot replace it with anything. The most important features for me are that it has bookmarks and ability to set playback speed.
I would like to know how well this app works on S3 mini. It is pretty buggy on my Galaxy 3 (i5800) and I would like to know if it works fine on S3 mini. It is reported to work very well on many phones, but some phones have troubles.
Could someone please test it out? I compiled and attached an apk file (rockbox.apk) for the resolution of s3 mini (800x480).
I provide some test files (ogg and spx files, testfiles.zip and config.cfg (rename config.txt to config.cfg and put in rockbox folder) for testing purposes.
Thank you in advance
Best regards
Tuomas

Thanks! That's good start, at least Did you try any rewinding / fast forwarding? Maybe some bookmarking.. and did you try widget? CPU usage is reasonably low? If someone is enthustiastic enough, I could give my config file to carry out some more testing (can be found in first message now). And if possible, play back more files for some time, not just few seconds. Or I could just go and buy that phone now that it's pretty cheap... but let me tell you that this is one of the most important features I am expecting from my new phone, and I would be quite disappointed if rockbox failed :/ Thanks for helping!

I will try the above later

Regarding CPU usage you can't compare this shiny thing to the galaxy3 at all, the i5800 was outdated on release regarding it's capabilitys and Samsung did not have the knowledge on how to build good devices at that time.

High Rockbox CPU usage could be due to bug that appear in only some devices.
But question is now already obsolete, I bought galaxy S2 and I am happy with it.
Thanks,

I use this prg for couple of years now. It is complicated but when you make all adjustments to mach your needs is very stable and it can give all the information you ever need almost at the medical level. I have even a HRM band and a arm band for htc hd and is amassing. I didn`t find anything like it anywhere. It is very expensive but is wort all the money if you train regulately. I highly recommend this prg (I don`t work for them an I don`t have any commercial interest connected by them). the only thing what i don't like to that program is graphics, it is made for qvga screens and even if is working fine in WVGA it is ugly.
What he said. Pretty ugly, but excellent performance. I haven't found any other app to match it, or even to come anywgere close.
theres also so sporty pal
I tryed sportpal, but i find it kind of dif to understand the program :S
Just to add to the list of programs, even if it's not aimed at runners, it could be well used to keep track of your movements, it's a program called NoniGPSPlot.

Sportypal difficult it's very easy to use, click on start and start running
Just wondering if there are any other apps out there, specifically apps that upload to the web your progress, example: Nokia Sports Tracker and RunKepper for iPhone
I'm with Sportypal on my phone, i just came back from skiing, it worked great, also have been using the running and cycling mode.
The option for goal is nice and on some versions there is even voice feedback.

A browser for you all

Hi,
I've been a visiter here for a few years. This is my first post.
I've managed to get out the Net Front Browser that came pre-installed on my T-01A. It's a 2009 version and is very lite on battery. It runs in English on my English rom without trouble. It also utilizes the hard zoom bar of the TG01.
It's very different in useability and quality to any of the NF concept versions I've tried.
There are around 14 files to be copied to the windows folder and thats it.
However, some may contain some personal information so I'd like someone to help me clean them up before I post the files as a zip or torrent them.
The NF is based on the kernel of IE Mobile and works not that smooth. For WM devices, I recommend IrisBrowser though its develop team was required by RIM a year ago , Iris still works and the UX is perfect

Sorry, I tried the Iris browser for a few days but it's not a patch on the NF that I have. It kindov works but it's unuseable compared to what I was/ am offering.
Sorry that you think the Iris is better, lol. It is very inferior.
never mind...not everyone cares the same thing. what i care is full web experience and html 5 support, while nf, whose acid3 test result is not acceptable
btw, except the ui, what do you care when choosing a mobile browser?

I guess you are an an employee of Iris or have connections there'ov, otherwise are you numb to judge what you don't know as you haven't downloaded my files yet?
Simply : I know about what I am speaking and you are speaking.
You only know of what you're speaking and don't know of what I am speaking.
how i wish i could work for RIM.....
but truth is what one believes so it's useless to explain more
the netfront is the mobile browser made by access in japan, isn't it?

wait... you said you have post files to be downloaded? where are they?
I did not say I had posted any files, but I can.
The 1 main advatge with this browser is battery life.
With Opera 10 minutes browsing takes 10% battery, with NF 1 hour's browsing takes 10% ( or thereabouts).
The difference is comparable with Windows media player and Core player. WMPlayer is about the same 10 minutes is 10% battery and Core player 1 hour is 10 % ( playing music).
It doesn't support flash, but it's as fast as Opera for one tenth of battery usage. And so for browsing - it's the best browser I've found.
When I had the stock Japanese rom on it I used it all the time. After flashing an English rom it was sufferable with only IE opr Opera, they both drain the battery like a gorilla in a banana shop.
It was tricky to get the files out as the are protected rom files and ordinarily uncopiable. But I've got them.
If you know anyone else who has managed to get the JP version of NF from a Japanese Toshiba T-01A (which is completely in English when installed on an English rom) then please, ask them, or download from them.
Is this not On topic?
This is definitely on-topic XD
It seems a bit silly to get into an argument over the difference of opinion here. Just hurry up and link to the browser so we can all have more alternatives! =)
i see, trying to look for it

Here's a link
https://rapidshare.com/files/458372874/NFB.rar
*** Please read below ***
It's a RAR file with 12 files and 2 folders.
You need to select 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files' in your pc's 'Folder Options' to see all the files and so copy them. (or use a decent phone file explorer)
Copy all 14 to your phones' 'Windows folder'.
Link to NFStartup (or 1 of the others).
And give it a try.
It's off a T01 A so the hard zoom bar should work fine on TG01.
If problems on a different screen resolution, there is an 'nfview' file that looks configurable.
Also the Widgets thing is crap as far as I know so you can save a few MB and delete that; It should still work fine.
seems different to find. actually it is also difficult to find a third party japanese rom:-(

Sorry, it is due to the network delay, I'm downloading and will try it later. Thank you for sharing.
In fact, it's the NF 3.5 for WM, you can open this link http://acid3.acidtests.org/ in this browser, the result is 36/100 here, you may run this test in other browsers for a try.
Here're the results I've tested months ago for your information:
http://shrt.st/10ae
Your right, it is the 3.5, I noticed it on when it starts up.
That acid test is a waste of time. It bears nothing useful in reality.
The NF still out performs all other browsers in the real world. But if you need flash for something use Opera.
Good luck on the battery life.

Is it possible to get Note 10.1 features?

So, for those of you who haven't seen the "Introducing Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" video Samsung recently posted to YouTube, then you should probably check it out here before reading onwards into this post. There are two features highlighted greatly within the video which really interest me, but unfortunately there is no reason frankly nor monetary backing for me to get a tablet (hence why I purchased an all-in-one device such as the Note), and these are the Learners' Hub and the split-screen multitasking shown. Can I download this hub and get it working on my Note and is there any way to split the screen to view multiple apps on my Note's screen at the same time?
Update
UPDATE: Found "Learning Hub" by Samsung on Samsung Apps. It hasn't got a great selection, but could prove useful for studying history (which I am doing) for example. Just want to split the screen for multitasking so that I can copy information from a web-page to S-Note easy and stuff like that. I saw a calculation somewhere that the Note's screen split in half landscape would give you two 3.6 inch screens, which is the same size as the iPhone's screen.
Does it only work on stock ICS?

You need the Samsung Apps store to download it, so probably. It is quite useful for a bit of learning - there are even a fair few free books.

I anticipate that if the demand is high enough, it's only a matter of time before a dev implements a port of these features to the galaxy note.

TV? As in TV out? That is not yet supported on any Galaxy SIII running any version of CyanogenMod, Samsung says they are using an open format, but at the moment, they are the only ones using this version of the format so there's no documentation on how to properly output MHL on this device. If you want TV out you will need to run a Samsung rom at this time.

For Christ's sake YouTube...

Why is the note 4 the only quad HD device that doesn't support max YouTube resolution. 720p is all I'm seeing even in the latest update.
Yes I have wiped data and cache, yes I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the play store and apkmirror sideload.. And no I don't want to edit my build prop.
I don't have this issue on the LG g3 or my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
Is this ever going to be resolved and who the hell do you have to contact about this?
I'm not looking for 1440p.. But 1080 would be nice. There is a huge difference between 720p and 1080p imo. If you think otherwise you need an eye exam[emoji1]

There's absolutely nothing you can do unless you modify the build prop at this point.
You think we want to modify the build prop to get what should be official/stock? The answer is no, we don't.
But if you want YouTube to run 1440p, this is what you must do. No other way around it unless they update YouTube through the store for our device's support.
I've used this way here, and it worked for me.

BAD ASS NOTE 4
Why... because Note is Google Nexus' most formidable competitor... that and because they can. I would send a letter to youtube, directing your question towards them. I'd be interested to hear how they respond. In second thought, maybe we should all write them letters.

True... Limiting to 1080p kinda sucks but 720p is a slap in the face
you could always call them; I doubt they will care though.

I sent an email.. I'm sure it will be disregarded
believe it or not, they actually answer that phone number, and will respond some way...
Sent an e-mail a month ago. No response. Maybe I will call too. I wholly agree that there should not be hoop jumping for native 1440 or even 1080. Ridiculous!
I agree with you but when the Nexus went 2k, i knew that it only meant that we would get it in time. Its just googles way of saying they are in control and they say when users get that option. For what its worth, even on 1080, you tube stops 1/4 of the way and stops loading for a while. Ive always hated this about youtube and has forced me to go Vevo for music videos.
For me, bandwidth on AT&T here in Honolulu sucks so bad that streaming YouTube above 720p is impossible (in fact I frequently see buffering at 720p in some areas of town) so I really could care less BUT I do think that those of you who have better bandwidth or want to use the device to its fullest potential on WiFi should have the option. If I'm on WiFi chances are I have my Note Pro or Macbook Pro with me so I'll reach for those devices instead and watch at 1080p or higher.
Wasn't long ago that HD quality video was new to YouTube so surely in time things will continue to improve.

I don't know you guys but I fixed it for my friends' Note 4 and LG G3, also for my Galaxy Tab S and my S5 and all of them had the issue for the last month and the instructions once worked stopped working about 1 month ago.
Follow the instructions on this link and it should work.
Forget about the Root part (Steps 2 & 3), I did it skipping all the root related stuff, and it has worked on ALL the devices that I've been trying for the past month and hadn't worked. All of them now have the 1440p option except the S5 that it gets up to 1080p.
The only one so far that didn't work was a Sony Xperia Z3, but I just sold it yesterday anyway.

Really? I don't know what to tell you, like I mentioned before, it worked for all the Samsung devices I tried plus the LG G3.
Only thing I forgot to mention was that after step 4, where it tells you to go to Play Store to update, before going to the store I opened YouTube first and entered the credentials then I went to the store and followed the rest of the instructions exactly as they appear.
Try it again and see if that helps.
Just an update.
Today I read that there was a new Youtube version, the one that finally has Material Design, so I went ahead and downloaded from here , installed it and I still have the 1440p option in my Galaxy Tab S and 1080p in my Galaxy S5. I'm waiting for my Note 4 to arrive today, first think I will do after setting it up is to do this procedure, if it works I'll let you all know, but I don't doubt it will work as I did the same to my friend's T-Mobile Note 4 and it worked as the first try as I have mentioned already.

Rooted running cm11 latest gapps.
Awesome. Super easy fix. Did it today. Just change build prop android version to 5.0 and then Uninstalled the youtube app. Then installed youtube version 6.0 (material themed) and BAM. 1440p option is there. I'm rooted on Dynamic Cat 3.0
