[Windows][One Click] Yet Another Kindle Fire 2 Utility [V: 2.0] - Kindle Fire 2 Android Development

After toying with my kindle for a while I realized just how hard it was for new users to actually go about "freeing" there Kindle Fire 2.
Current Public Version: 2.0 - Download on second post
Dev Version: 2.1
So, here is Yet Another Kindle Fire 2 Utility (YAKF2U)

V.1.3A
I know its not the best code in the world, it could be structured better, it could be more optimized and cleaned up, but it works, that's the main thing.
To use the utility you must have ADB enabled on your device.
Its also helpful (But not required in most cases) to have the Kindle Fire Drivers on your system.

Currently in the works, beta testing it myself, still a few little bugs, shall hopefully have an update out shortly.

2.2 Update Released, fixes a few bugs, Downgrade bootloader should now fully work, more progress made on root, still does not work however.

So i'm just getting started on my Daughters KF2. Short story, 1 kid now has Galaxy tab 2, other has KF2. Stock KF2 sucks. I want to make it more like a real Andriod device, IE the Samsung tab2/N7.
Me? I use Windows Phone haha but it is unlocked and rom'd :highfive:
So, what I gather is this tool will do the work for me to root and set me up to load up a real rom on this thing? Sorry I have been searching and searching, not much n00b info on this device.

The ability to root still does not work, according to the op....

Sorry for the delay in getting an update out, I recently bought a new Macbook Pro, so I may also be making a nice OSX Version, Windows update should be out shortly, Root has been fixed, along with ROM Flashing.

I can't wait!!! None of the 'other' methods work and I've been holding out on your program to get my daughters KF2 rooted.

I see 2.2 is up. Looks good.
I cant get it to run. in on 10.3 stock OS. Do I need to root before I downgrade the boot loader?

To add to this, I cant get root to work with the 2.2 YAKF2U. I also tried Manuel method too(Bin4ry's Root + QemuRoot). I get stuck at qemu, it just doesn't run. It starts the Daemon, and sits there. The Bin4ry root was doing this too, but I was just tinkering with it and it started and said successful so I moved on.
---------- Post added at 06:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 AM ----------
muhaaa got it working. I had a package/driver missing from ADK.
Well got the root working, trying the downgrade now

Root before downgrading bootloader.
Having some issues with the latest version, I'm not sure on any release window, as above, Make sure you have the right ADB drivers installed.

Will be posting an update shortly, sorry for the delays, Currently the program will be Windows Only, I shall try and get it posted ASAP, Keep an eye on my blog for updates, as I shall post it there first - www.jackellis.info

Wait a second.. I can use this tool to downgrade my bootloader from the 10. Versions? That's awesome! Do I still need a fast boot cable for this operation? My Kindle is already rooted.... I thought I was stuck with just an Android look alike using various hacks..

Any luck getting this up and running, and fully functional ( that's what she said)?

Hit a brick wall with it unfortunately, For one my Windows PC Died, two, My Kindle died..
I will hopefully be getting another Kindle soon, however until then, I wont be able to post any updates, as I wont be pushing out un-tested scripts.

*/
This is the official Weekly Build of CM10 for the HTC Holiday (Vivid 4G/Velocity/Raider).
Installation Instructions
Go to http://get.cm/?device=holiday and download the latest weekly.
Locate Gapps via a quick Google search.
Fully wipe your device from Recovery if you are not coming from CM10 already.
Reboot into recovery and install.
Remember, if you are S-On, you will have to take the boot.img out of the cm.zip and flash it manually via fastboot. If you flash this and your phone just reboots, you are most likely S-On and need to perform that procedure.
Changelog
You can find the latest Changelog here
Github
Huge thanks:
synergye, IOmonster & mg2195 - For getting the Holiday to where it was.
intervigil - Helping me understand 8660 differences from 8960.
homeslice - Helping out while I've been unavailable.
Issues:
HW video playback may have artifacts or other issues. Turn on Force GPU Rendering in Developer Options to fix.
How to use MTP to mount internal and external storage simultaneously:
Go to Settings
Go to Storage
Press Menu key
Choose "USB Connection Type"
Choose "Media device (MTP)"
* Windows will mount this automatically.
* Linux is a little tricky, but not too difficult, see the following:
Edit /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules to include these lines for adb and mtp:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666", GROUP="plugdev"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666"
install gmtp; for debian/ubuntu type: sudo apt-get install gmtp
open gmtp and hit the connect button (be patient)

Not sure if this is 'Spectrejester's' problem, but I also had no wifi like 'sadoway' showed a few posts up. I did not see his fix in time before I flashed back to the other rom so I could not test if it worked for me (long press the notification window's quick settings?). And im near certain the boot img flashed (s-off). Never had a problem on any of his earlier builds...
I think mic does work now for AT&T phones but it is indeed sooo quiet you would have to scream at top of your lungs to get them to hear you. But, its definitively a start . Awesome work like usual.

Frkkn cool ............
Yeah I usually get $500 Christmas cash every year and I've been checking the nexus site constantly hoping the wait for the 4 would reduce but yesterday enlight of the news I was looking at new accessories for this phone instead! Very exciting. I'll wait till everything works to flash, but it does give us new hope

I can't get this to sync. After the "git clone git://github.com/mg2195/local_manifest.git" from the original tree, I can't modify local_manifest.xml or I get repo sync errors:
Code:
error: Cannot remove project ".repo": uncommitted changes are present
commit changes, then run sync again
How do I "un-clone" a "git clone" operation to remove it from version control?

Yeah...story about that...that was bad instructions in my part (didn't work the way I imagined in my head)
Anyways, delete everything in the repo folder EXCEPT the projects folder. Again do not delete the projects folder...delete everything except the projects folder. Run the repo init again and you should be good. (Since the project folder is still there you won't have to redownload everything)
You could also CD into the .repo folder and run a git reset...
Oh yeah and if anyone's wondering I requested the other thread closed to avoid confusion...

cd ./.repo
git reset --hard
or you can just stash the changes (git stash)
then, instead of cloning, just create the local_manifest.xml manually

While this is called, and titles after the well-known 'Kindle Fire Utility" It's code is not based off of it at all, infact it's almost completely different.
This one does, however, require your connected to the internet. The purpose is to Install Root via Bin4ry's method, Install TWRP, and FreedomBoot. I've always loved Soupkit, and great job to Soupmagnet on that, but I feel like Windows shouldn't have been left out, thus this was made.
At the moment this is under HEAVY development, and currently barely works, if it all, mostly due to my lack of being unable to test it.
I, however, still trying my best at creating this for you guys.
No Build will be posted untill I get this into Beta Stages, till then watch my github

Still lacking testing, until I get somebody to test it I'm going to have issues. I'm going to start working on it again though.
Tester
I was contacted by a certain person who is going to test this for me, so development open again. Check the github for some recent changes.
Awesome. I was beginning to wonder if our device was "dead".
So, quick status report.
The Utility should be fine, It went through testing ok. Although, there is issues with the drivers. (Thanks, Windows.) I should be able to put this into Beta really soon.
Update, eol.
I recently noticed that the thread by FMKillio has been pretty much destroyed, mostly due too a major bug in his script. If it never updated, then we're fine. If it did, then this project will fo eol. 1. I don't have the time to work on this, 2. Because I don't own the device. Nobody was willing to test this, and the people who were never got back to me.
If you have the latest version of that, please PM me a link too it. I need too examine the code, before declaring this either; EOL, or On Hiatus 'till testers available.

There was never an issue with the script despite the fact that you had a major part in shutting the thread down. The issue was with the bootloader being updated...
I used the apk version of the script many many times without ever having an issue but I also was aware of every change and update or device has received.
I also remember how you made such a big deal about how you could do better and haven't seen any results. That being said, I'm not here to berate you... Here is the link to the apk. Inside you will find the script.

Welcome to Infamous Tab3
Brought to you by @Jamison904RULES:
Before you start using this rom here are some things you need to know:
1. I am NOT updating every day (I work 6 days a week and have a 2 year old daughter and Pregnant wife)...
2. Don't ask for ETA, this is rude and offensive. When it is done it is done.
3. Custom Roms come without warranty. They are tested before release but something always can go bad. So if you broke your phone or you got fired because the alarm didn't go off - I am not responsible.
4. Support is limited. Sometimes I can answer your questions sometimes I don't have the time. There will be times I don't have an answer so please do no repeat your question or get offended because I haven't answered you.
5. Don't compare ROMs. It is rude and offensive for developers. *If the other rom has what you need, use that ROM.
6. Don't Kang my work. You may fool everyone else but I will know! If you want to use something just ask!
7. If you like my work, a five star thread rating and hitting the thanks button motivates me.
8. No flaming! We have all been a NoOb before. We are here to help each other.
9. Read the change log. All relevant important information is there first! i.e. Bugs and fixes if there are any at the time.
10. Read and follow the how to install.
Code:
#include
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
By using the rom you agree with the above terms!

HOW TO INSTALL:
Download ROM and place on SD
Reboot into recovery
Wipe unless change log say otherwise *
Install the ROM
Reboot out of recovery
Skip setup wizard (you can put your name in)
wait five minutes for all to settle as this is a highly tweaked ROM and Kernel (soon)
Reboot
Additional install info:
Now install Xposed. The installer app comes with the ROM. Open it and click install. Don't reboot yet. Hit the tab above that says modules and turn on the modules you want to use... now reboot.

Just a good base TW right now. CM/AOKP will take a lot of work. But we are getting there. Have to build the device tree if CM hasn't already. Then I can work on AOKP

works!
Anyways, working on a bunch of other tweaks and mods. Don't forget that xposed theme manager works. There is a thread in the app section I made Link to thread. There are links to many modules in the thread. Also in my Infamous tools app there is a link to the Xposed folder for you to download straight to the tab.
Last to jump start development in here, anyone can use my install script for their ROM. Figure if we all work together we can make this a really nice tab.
Sent from my dark hole called an office.

Pardon the ignorance but this is Android based correct? I'm trying to connect the gear to an Moto G but apparently the gear manager app is not working with lollipop yet.. Go figure
@t-shock good work mate.
Just wondered how you managed to make it connect to any device? Care to share? Thanks

I thought it could replace null rom, but there is no launcher or notif.bar in it. Will this come in future releases?

HEY Guys...
I have been lurking this forum forever and tried all different ROMS on my phones for as long as I can remember... so I figured lets try my Gear...
So I would like to know if there is a way to get the ROM back onto the watch without the watch actually having an OS... yes i am not sure what exactly that I did but I know I did it... I can boot into recovery but I had wipe everything... just need to know how to transfer a file back to the watch so I can install the ROM and get the watch back again... or did I really mess things up... ? If I just power off the phone it is stuck at the Samsung Gear screen and never goes any further... I just don't know how to get into debug mode and have mobileGo recognize the watch again so that i can upload the ROM to it...
or did I screw it up bad?
thanks
Dave

Dave
I'll give this a look. Thank you!
is this development still 'live'...there does not seem to be much happening here so was just wondering...!!!!
Just flashed and seems great, the null rom was too much for me, I needed something more like the stock rom but better. This is it. I'll use it a while and report anything important.
Thanks!
Thank you very strong master t-choc:good:
please if I did not find the screenshots, I have friends who want to install your wonderful ROM

Realize you solved it but a recommendation for anyone playing around with installing ROMs, take a few minutes and get adb set up and working for whatever device you are tinkering with. You can normally boot into recovery and a simple adb push whatever-rom.zip /sdcard/whatever-rom.zip would push it over to the phone/watch/whatever you are working on.
Also can use fastboot, between the two unless you actually brick your device you can save yourself some time.

FRP MUST BE OFF by going to Settings>About Tablet and tapping "Build Number" 10 times, then going to Settings>Developer Options and turning ON OEM Unlock.
You should optimally have some experience flashing ROMs, and if not, follow the below instructions VERY carefully.
Installing
Follow in order:
1) Make a backup of your device in TWRP (Optional)
2) In TWRP, select "Wipe" and then select "Advanced Wipe" and wipe the following:
-System
-Cache
-Dalvik/ART cache
-Data
-Internal Storage (do not wipe internal storage if you put the ROM on your internal sd!)
3) In TWRP, go to "Install" and navigate to where you saved the ROM zip
NOTE: On some devices the touchscreen does not work in the AROMA installer. On these devices, it has been reported that using the volume/power buttons to control the installer is possible.
4) Flash the ZIP
5) Reboot system
6) Enjoy! (First boot WILL bootloop ONE time, do not freak out)
Bugs
Red = High Priority, Yellow = Medium Priority, Green = Low Priority
ADB doesn't work (kernel bug, as far as I know)
9.7inch Tab S2 AROMA touchscreen not working; volume and power buttons must be used on those devices

I have flashed TWRP and the boot.img as well. I'm now downloading your ROM. One question: does your ROM have adaptive storage enabled, or will I need to repeat the little process you told me about in another thread? Thanks for all your work!

Okay. Your ROM is Installed! I have run into one glitch. I am trying to switch my SD card to adaptive storage, like I did before. This time, when I type "adb shell", I get: error. Device unauthorized. This adbd's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set; try adb-kill-server if that seems wrong. " I tried that. No luck. Any suggestions? Thanks.

This is a bug with the kernel, that's not my kernel so I can't fix it. That said, you can get a terminal emulator on the tablet and execute the commands he did after adb shell from there.

Now I wish I put an OTA updater into the ROM so I didn't have to upload updates here. Maybe I'll upload a "revised" version before too many people use it.
Would you mind bringing pitchforks to ashyx so we can get ADB? lol.

I thought that's what you were thinking, but sometimes a little bit of goodness can work wonders! If that doesn't work, then we'll go with your idea!
I've been installing and setting up apps. I haven't met a single bug yet. My AnTuTu score is around 74k, which is slightly less than stock. But, if your tweaks help out in battery life send other areas, that's a very small price to pay. I haven't been able to get a sense of battery life yet, as I've been downloading and setting up my stuff. Everything feels smooth. I look forward to anything else you plan to add. But, this is quite good as it is.
Hi,
first of all thanks for your work&time! Is it possible to use this ROM for my T813? Thanks in advance!
The other thing is. it possible for you to give us a list which Apps do you removed? It's nice to know for the updater-script by Blaz1nfor ( sry can't send you the link, because i'm new here ) Or better for us, can you make an update of this list and post this here? This will be awesome!
