Nice:
It's amazing to see that you had the drive to make an app just for your fellow SGS4G users.
Thanks Alot FB.

I just got a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V).
I went through a factory-wipe, update to 2.3.6, root, custom kernel, CM7 install, and now on CM9. It seems to work fine. Except I'm on AT&T!
I just purchased your app. I will try it out in a few hours. If it works, I'll leave a positive review here and on the Play store.

Thank you, but if you're already using your SGH-T959V successfully on AT&T it means that your phone is already unlocked and don't need to attempt to unlock again.

I was *not* using it on AT&T, that is why I bought your app.
The phone was locked to T-Mobile. When I put in my AT&T SIM, it asked for a SIM PIN or something.
With the T-Mobile SIM inserted, I ran your app, wrote down the number, put my AT&T SIM in, typed in the number, then it said "Network Unlocked" (or something like that).
Does this mean the device is unlocked for ANY GSM network (such as Bell or Rogers), or was it telling me that it was unlocked for just the AT&T SIM?

It should work with any compatible GSM network that uses a full-sized SIM card.

Hi, quick question about your App.
There will be soon the SGS4G Google Edition. It will be available only for AT&T and T-Mobile.
I'm from Belgium and I planned to buy the phone during my holidays in the U.S.
Do you think your app will work in this case and unlock the carrier ?
Regards.

Whoever decided to name the phone the Galaxy S 4G picked a bad name. The phone this app is designed for came out in 2011 (SGH-T959V or SGH-T959W), so it will not work on the new 2013 Galaxy S 4.

Will it work on non rooted?

If I rename your file in update.zip will it unlock also a not rooted device?
I tried some other files but unsuccessfully as not signed.
Can I ask which ROM do you suggest for this t959 4g and if it support front camera?
I used to convert avi files from my cheap camera to latest space conscious mp4 h264 on the gt i9000 with official ROM CM10.1 rc5 but often with big files it just slow down, freeze and restart, which parameters of CPU and RAM should I fine tune to achieve video transcoding done? (actually Roman 10 1.5.6)
Thanks
I temporarily rooted with z4mod 1.4 but antivirus alert me of Lena virus, I ignored it but I loose connection shortly using Internet in places never lost before.

This is a native android application available from Google Play, not a flashable zip file.
Are you sure you're using an SGH-T959V or SGH-T959W

Deleted.

idexample said:
Yes it is the 959 but I made the example with my old gt i9000 as it is similar in RAM and spec.
You offered aside your Google Play apk also a zip file in your other thread but I was asking how can I flash it if not rooted ask for zip signature.
About the conversion of videos now I have better results with Mackay ROM, must install yet the latest 2.11.4.

You should post here in the zip file thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978974

Thanks so much for this. I unlocked in order to switch to a cheaper service. It's working great!

You will need a computer. If you have one available here is a guide you can follow that will get your phone on stock gingerbread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Good luck!

As you work from long time on this device, can I ask you after stock gingerbread what you suggest to put on please?
For non bricked device I will need root and custom recovery, cwm TWRP or other, in other posts I read about Amonra....
Thanks

Why no 4.4.2 yet?

Hiya.
Recently bought a genuine UK SIM-free/unlocked HTC One (M7) online. Noticed that the Android OS is still stuck to 4.3.
I thought Android 4.4.2 is now available to UK customers for unlocked handsets? And what are the improvements to the phone?
Please advice. Thanks.
Use this app to check your CID: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter
What CID does it say? For UK unbranded, unlocked handsets it's HTC__001. I got the update just fine.

My CID is : VODAP001. That seems to suggest it is originally a Vodaphone-locked device but it has been unlocked since.
My i know what's my next move?

Same here, I'm from Croatia and have T-Mobile De version, but still can't update.
I've contacted HTC and they removed 4.4.2. update in some places. They'll roll it out again later, probably with Sense 6. We'll have to be patient until then
---------- Post added at 11:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 PM ----------
But still, call HTC support for UK and let them check your phone (by IMEI) and tell you if you have the "good" version

Reason why both of you don't have the update yet is because your CID and software is locked to the previous carrier, meaning it's up to them to release the update, not HTC.
This will wipe your phone, but it will unbrand your phone if you follow it correctly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738
This basically flashes the unbranded version of the ROM and changing the CID to one that HTC does support, so you'll get updates directly from HTC instead of the carrier.
Sorry but right now i'm not prepared to unbrand the phone as it seems to me its too much of a long & winding process. Seeing the link seems too technical for me.
What i have done instead is ring HTC. Gave them the serial number of the phone and they told me that it IS Vodafone-branded phone. They adviced me to contact Vodafone which i did. The Vodafone support person doesn't seem to have a clue to what i'm saying and seems not familiar to how updates are released. He kept on insisting (based on the circumstances i have presented to him|) that Vodafone has nothing to do with updates. Person sounded stupid really.
I tried a Three and an EE SIM card on the One M7 and it works. So far no updates yet.
I can also confirm that being an unlocked phone it has NO Vodafone branding or logo or apps or bloatware on the phone itself.
So, i'm stuck with a year old phone with a old-gen Android OS.
So...what's next please?

According to this, every KitKat with Sense 5.5 for One is out. But as I said, some carriers removed the update. Also, some carriers have already released Sense 6. I hope that we'll see direct update to Sense 6 in a month or two

I have explained many times that my phone is unlocked & SIM free albeit being Vodafone-branded.
So, it still doesn't answer my question: why no Android 4.4.2 for my phone?
I've read an article that One is getting Sense 6 update today! (for unlocked devices). My is branded to T-Mobile, but I hope that I'll get the update until the end of the month
Because the software is still modified slightly by Vodafone. You may have the phone network unlocked but it doesn't mean it's software unbranded. It's still up to Vodafone to update it. To be honest, this sounds more like a second hand handset instead, perhaps the original owner got it for free from an upgrade, unlocked it, and then sold it on as he was probably using another phone.
Vodafone customer support won't know anything, they're not taught anything technical, only the network side of things, which is why they can't answer you.
Honestly, you should just unlock and S-OFF the phone, and change it to a proper unbranded model if you want to get the latest updates from HTC.

But why should i get the phone unlocked as its already unlocked in the first place as i'm able to put an SIM on it?
And what do you mean by S-OFF? Is that term called "debranding?
When I mean unlock, I mean bootloader unlocking, which is different from network unlocking and allows you to flash other ROMs.
S-OFF allows you to change the CID, which is needed if you want to receive updates for another version of the HTC One, such as the unbranded version.
I have four years of owning and using an Android phone. Never been a developer or have IT skills or been into rooting phones. I consider myself somewhere above an intermediate user and under expert level.
So, it easy to unlock the bootloader and S-OFF my HTC One M7?
WIll it almost guarantee me i'll still be able to receive the Android 4.4.2 update and (perhaps) beyond?

I've rooted and s-off every phone, but few months after purchase, when I got bored with stock.
If you are doing this for the first time, even though you have good tutorials, it still won't be easy for you. I don't know anything about rooting M7 because I have it for a week, but it probably isn't so easy as it looks like, and it will take you few hours to do it (maybe days if you screw something).
If you unbrand your phone than yes, you will definitely be able to update to 4.4.2. But you need to know that if you do that, you will void your warranty for an almost new phone.
My recommendation: since I've seen that Sense 6 is already out for some carriers in US, it will probably be available in the Europe soon. So be patient and wait for a few weeks, and you'll probably receive direct update to 4.4.2 and Sense 6.

Maybe if you search you can find the OTA file somewhere on the net and apply it manually, or check with vodafone, why you're not receiving it.
Cheers

You can....but its not recommended, and if you do it you are doing it at your own risk.
Also keep in mind that if you update the "Germany ROM" to 4.4.4, you can NEVER go back to the Sprint ROM (safely, without great risk of bricking) until Sprint releases their FULL 4.4.4 SBF. Otherwise you would be "downgrading" which is well documented to put you at an extreme risk of bricking.
Good Luck :good:

Yes. It should work just fine for you, but I don't support anything other than the stock sprint rom with my Sim-Crack.
You might TRY this, first: When you flash the 4.4.2 Germany ROM, depending on whether you are using RSD-Lite or Manual Method either:
1. If using RSD Lite, unzip the SBF for the germany rom, and edit the XML file with Notepad or similar. Erase the 2 lines containing "erase modemst1" and "erase modemst2"
2. If using the manual method, simply skip the two commands "fastboot erase modemst1" and "fastboot erase modemst2".
If you do that, the Sim-Crack should persist and you shouldn't have to re-do the entire procedure after you change ROMS.

German Stock Rom for XT1053 running 4.4.3
Hello,
I just registered to the forums today. Have been lurking for a while but since I finally received my Moto X DE today I have a few questions.
*I hope this won't be regarded as hijacking this thread, i just want to avoid opening a new thread for something that might have been posted already.*
My XT1053 is the US GSM Verison, it has been imported. Therefore it german is no language option in the currently installed ROM.
To be able to use touch control etc. in an effective way (english language per se is not the problem) i want to flash a german Stock ROM.
Best suited one i found on sbf-droid is Android 4.4.2 Blur_Version.163.44.2.ghost_row.Retail.en.DE. But i read often that downgrading may make you run into serious issues, even bricking the device.
I also want to be able to receive the german OTA update to 4.4.4 after flashing to 4.4.2, if that is possible. If that is not possible i would even tend to stay on the US 4.4.3 until there is a flashable 4.4.4 german retail on sbf-droid.
This is the current info on my ROM etc.:

}
Right now everything is running fine with the ROM, except the language issue. I even have 4G. Also i feel no need to root the device right now because I first want to see how it suits me as it is.
Further i read that SafeStrap is able to install the ROM in a new partition. Maybe this is the most secure way to achieve my goal and havng the chance to easily revert if it goes wrong?
So i already searched for a anser to my question but, honestly, all the information i gathered here somehow got mixed up in my head. Now i would feel way better if someone had a heart to give me a quick advice or just a link to the right method.
[TL;DR:] I have a US GSM XT1053 that is totally untouched and running stock 4.4.3 (212.44.21.ghost_row.Retail.en.US).
I want to install a german retail ROM with the ability to update to german 4.4.4 easily and asap.
"Edit: Dang...i just realized that this would have fitted way better into THIS THREAD. sry*

You need to wait until the full 4.4.4 German SBF is available to do this without risk of bricking.
The problem is that you are already on 4.4.3 -- if your phone were on 4.4.2 or earlier, it would not be an issue since you would not be downgrading.
You need to hang tight until the 4.4.4 leaked german sbf is released. If you decide to attempt to downgrade, you are doing it at your own risk and may very well end up with a brick.
Good Luck.

Ok, thank you for the confirmation! So i will just sit tight for the next weeks and F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 on sbf-droid constantly
When 4.4.4 shows up there, i might return to this thread for details...
Hello,
after sitting in my cave, waiting for weeks i am back.
Since yesterday i am getting the US 4.4.4 update offered and it is beginning to annoy me.
Therefore i checked again if there is a german 4.4.4 sbf available.
I found this german 4.4.4 sbf (XT1052_RETAIL-DE_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_54_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip) on a filefacctory moto X firmware website that i cannot link due to restrictions.
Is it safe to flash it on my US XT1053 that is currently running completely stock (EXCEPT THAT I SWITCHED TO ART RUNTIME!!!) 212.44.21.ghost_row.Retail.en.US?
Also i currently have LTE with my phone in germany, so it would be nice to keep it that way
.
Does anyone have any tips on how to do it the most secure and easy way? Maybe also doing some sort of backup?
Ok,
i just decided to take the US 4.4.4 OTA for now. I don't really miss german, except for the Touchless Control. I will now stick to the US Version until the german Android L SBF is available. I just dont like to wipe the Phone now and then wipe it again in a month or so when Adndroid L is available.

TUT flash any firmware into your Sprint HTC One and unlock the sim card.

Finally I found the way to do smthing seems impossible.

1/ back to stock, reroot, TWRP, read how to sim unlock the Sprint HTC 10 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/nv-unlock-sim-t3314755
2/ download Viper10 2.5.0 (or any similar rom based on 1.80) inside Aroma, YOU MUST CHOOSE CARRIER IS SPRINT
3/ reboot the phone, dial ##3424# to open DM mode on (just check)
4/ download the firmware you want to flash, open the zip file, edit android-info.txt to match your CID and MID (don't change your phone MID)
5/ DELETE RADIO.IMG
6/ flash the edited firmware
7/ reboot into download mode, check your radio (should be [email protected]), your firmware version,
8 reboot phone, dial ##3424# to open DM mode on (if you can, congratulation)
9/ unlock your simcard again
10/ flash any rom match your firmware.
11/ enjoy
Can anyone verify this? Not to be doubtful but I'm ever so slightly skeptical.
Further, do I have to reunlock my SIM if I am to just use Sprint service?

If you've any trouble, U can back to original RUU. No step can brick your phone.
Of course, after flashing new firmware not provided by Sprint, your phone will be sim locked. I only provide the way to keep the MID, Radio and turn on DM mode to reunlock the phone.
If U're using sprint service, U must choose carrier as Sprint inside Aroma. I don't have sprint sim card so can't verify if you have to reunlock again

It isn't the first time I mod the firmware like this. In fact, HTC 10 can't flash the radio. The only way to flash radio is put it inside the firmware. I figured out it and try to keep the original radio.
The next trouble is trying to reunlock the sim card and ##diag# only active with sprint service right ? so I keep the sprint service.
When U keep the sprint service and original radio, u don't have to reunlock again. But I can't verify it because I'm no longer live in US.
Just back up anything u need because It the new 1.95.401.3 can format your phone. 1.90.401.3 was fine.
@Captain_Throwback do you think this'll work or I will end up with a brick?
I'd like to try and see if CM13 is bootable after converting my phone to pmeuhl, but I'm a bit hesitant to try this.

I have no point of reference for this, as I've never had a Sprint 10. It shouldn't brick anything, if the firmware is all compatible, but I don't know for sure.

I might give this a go. Now that multirom is out, I'll see if CM is bootable, but I am extremely doubtful.

BTW, make sure flash any custom firmware support Sprint carrier to unlock simcard again

Wondering which firmware that support Sprint?
Aa far I know only Sprint firmware will support Sprint.
Verizon or US unlocked will supported?

Does anyone have the latest Sprint radio IMG file? Thanks in advance!
I can confirm that this works! I took a brand new Sprint HTC 10. Unlocked bootloader. Flash TWRP and flash superuser. S-OFF using Sunshine. SIM unlocked it with the NV method (I'm on AT&T). Changed the CID to SuperCID (11111111). Downloaded the latest 1.96.617.2 firmware for unlocked/developer model. Removed the radio.img from the ZIP. Then flashed the ZIP. The Sprint radio is preserved and my SIM unlock was also preserved. Then I just flashed LeeDroid ROM and off I go.

It's from this thread. It's the unlocked/developer firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3387520
If the Sprint radio doesn't support band 3 then I'm afraid flashing the firmware doesn't do anything. I'm still on the Sprint radio. I can't get a signal with other radios.

Flashing generic UK firmware from O2 - complete n00b request

Hi,
I'm in the UK; have an Xperia 1 II from O2. Bought outright and using my EE sim in the phone. I am investigating the possibility of flashing generic UK firmware (i.e. to match the firmware on the phones sold direct from Sony) so that EE wifi calling hopefully starts to work. Phone is unlocked.
I've never flashed a phone before and am trying to figure out how it works.
My understanding is:
1. can obtain firmware via Xperifirm
2. can flash that firmware using Flashtool
3. don't need to unlock bootloader to flash new firmware.
My questions are:
4. is it as simple as the above? Download my selected firmware and then flash using Flashtool?
5. is Flashtool a third party software? I see the Sony dev site also offers a flash tool called Emma. I have also seen references to a separate Newflasher and the need for an fsc script
6. how do I confirm which firmware is which? I presume I would be looking to use the 'Customized UK' firmware listed in Xperifirm, CDA 1321-7192 / 58.0.A.3.31 / R8A.
Thanks, appreciate any info.
Cheers,
Michael
I posted how I did it here and in this simpler guide here.
Your understandings are correct. FlashTool includes XperiFirm.
4. Yes, though you will have to do a couple of additional steps because the FlashTool devices database has not been updated with the .fsc for the phone yet.
5. Yes, FlashTool is 3rd party software and allows you to change Customization. Emma is only for unlocked bootloaders from what I remember. You will need to also download the .fsc and .properties files I provided and rename the .fsc file.
6. Yes, 'Customized UK' from XperiFirm is what you want.
On Windows you will need to install the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers in the Flashtool\drivers directory to communicate with your phone. Follow the instructions here as you need to start Windows with driver signature enforcement disabled to do this.
Once you have that all set up, downloaded the firmware and FlashTool has processed the downloaded firmware, you will be ready to flash. Click Flash and choose Flash Mode, then set it up as in my first link - this will wipe all data on the phone.
When flashing, an error of "those files are not in the fsc script: persist, reset-non-secure-adb" is entirely normal. When flashing has finished successfully it will say "synced".
Thanks heaps - I'll have a go.
O2 advised me the phone is unbranded and unlocked as if bought direct from Sony is this incorrect ??

To be honest I'm torn between cancelling o2 as they told me the phone was unlocked and unbranded and getting a s20 plus
Thanks in advance Mike
Hi,
It has an O2 app preinstalled. No branding or startup stuff. Everything is fine except no WiFi calling visible for EE, which I expected. I did talk to O2 a bit beforehand and they said the firmware would be specific but nothing else. It is unlocked, my EE SIM is working fine aside from WiFi calling as above.

I doubt you will get VoLTE/4G calling working on EE or 3 with the O2 firmware either. (At least it didn't work for me with a Vodafone SIM). To me VoLTE is much more important than WiFi calling as without VoLTE you cannot make a phone call on 4G and instead have to also have a connection to a 3G or 2G network to make a call.
Flashing the Customized UK firmware should fix this.

Yes exactly. WiFi calling not working on EE out of the box. Just need to take the time and get brave enough to do it!
Did you flash your Xperia 1ii? I have the same, O2 phone with EE sim , no wifi calling but everything else OK. I though it was working before the last Sony update but maybe it wasn't. I notice the mobile signal shows LTE but when I put an O2 sim in it says 4G. I didn't realise it was a firmware issue so looking at doing this. I need wifi calling at the back of my house as the mobile signal is very weak.

Hi, yes I did using this wonderful thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-1-II/how-to/successfully-flashed-customization-t4119707
Read it first as there can be some scary moments depending on which usb-c cable you use to connect the phone to the pc (don't use the Sony one) but it all works if you follow the instructions and I now have WiFi calling over EE.

I managed to flash to stock UK and now have Wi-Fi calling on EE - but - I have lost the ability to edit the APN. When I hotspot some apps get confused with IPv6 so I delete that from the EE APN but cant do it now I have flashed. Also lost LTE option. Just generic 5G/4G/3G/2G. Can you edit your APN and do you have LTE?
As for the headphones, good for you - still waiting for mine

After flashing from O2 firmware to stock UK firmware I only have the one option of 5G/4G/3G/2G
Noob question but does flashing the firmware impact using NFC payments and Google pay?
Also does anyone know if/have experience of, the Hong Kong version (dual SIM), being able to use VOLTE/WiFi calling here in the UK? I need a dual SIM phone ideally but I read somewhere that flashing the dual SIM with a UK firmware will disable the second sim slot (which makes sense to me).
Thank you!
LTE is 4G isn't it. Does O2 just put LTE in their firmware rather than 4G?

I got the update yesterday on my S8+ but after the first boot I noticed the black background on the boot branding with the white text was flickering instead of solid and once booted the image quality is way worse, like there's no contrast and a yellow filter over the whole screen.
Rebooting doesn't help and no visual related settings were changed under display nor accessibility, anyone else having this problem?
I've been using Android 12L on my Tab S8 for a couple of days, and so far I am very impressed! The taskbar is the game changer. Opening 2-3 apps on the screen was already possible with the edge bar and split screen on 12, but the process is more simplified and intuitive on 12L. The only issue is that you can't use the taskbar on Nova launcher. Samsung launcher isn't too bad but I much prefer Nova... enjoy!

I won't hold my breath, but here's hoping either Samsung will provide a way to use it without their launcher, or someone provides a root way to enable the stock AOSP 12.1/12L taskbar, at least.

Flashing stock roms shouldn't need bootloader unlocks. Since EUX is stock rom so it should be flashable anyway without touching bootloader. Because it is stock rom.
Also I'm quite sure I have seen others on here flash other region roms on their devices without needing to unlock bootloader.
Never touch bootloader while warranty is active, doing so voids it.

Okay, I assumed wrong that changing CSC (flashing EUX firmware over top of XXV) would require a bootloader unlock. My mistake! Thank you.
I'll always unlock my bootloader immediately, though. No problems for me in the past 12 years, but to be fair, it was only the past 7 years that I've unlocked bootloaders. Before that, and when I was still on Verizon, I was always using exploits to be able to root my Verizon devices. My main devices for the past 6 have been Pixels except for one brief revisit with a Samsung phone a couple of years ago.

Well CSC is only a region code sort off. But every rom for each CSC is stock rom so the device won't become bricked or having issues flashing any CSC region roms. But if you flash a custom rom that is not stock then bootloader unlock is required. Because those do not contain correct certificate that the stock roms do and which therefore becomes rejected or failed when trying to flash them without unlocking the bootloader. While stock ones will pass through without any issues.
I used to flash custom roms years back when there was a workaround where only root was needed to flash. Then bootloader could stay as locked and such, but it was due to a glitch/exploit being used under root method.
