Black thing on Camera? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please could someone tell me what this is and how to get rid of it? it just occured today and it's not software fault as I have re-flashed to stock rom and its still the same? I would send it off for repair but I don't know if my warranty is still valid because I've taken off the original screen protector and there is no sony logo

It looks like dirt on your rug to me
Seriously, the black dot is in the same place on the rug in both images.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2

I've tried to wash it of but nothing happens and I Can't even see that when I look on the actual camera sensor so I don't know what it is
EDIT:
Would taking front screen protector off void my warranty?
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app

So you're saying that there is no dirt on your rug? Look at the images you posted, the black dots are in exactly the same place on the rug in both of them.
If there was a problem with the sensor or lens, surely the black dot would appear in the same place on every image.

Dust on the inside of your phone over the glass, this has just been reported by someone else, not sure why people keep opening new threads instead of searching, and reading

Dust moves and gets smaller and larger on it's own? Did you even look at the images in the op?
Edit: Hmmm, another thread in this section seems to suggest that dust will move about inside the lens. Apologies for the argumentative post
Seems pretty poor for a phone with an IP57 rating as this has never happened to me with any phone I've had and I work in some pretty dirty environments.

No there is no dirt on it I've cleaned that a million of times and it doesnt help, also when I record a video the dot seems to move, jump up and down even if I dont move but I'm not sure maybe its just my

It must have been a huge coincidence that the mark was in the same place on your rug in both pictures

I heard that some of the xperia z have this problem, having a black dot inside the lens, so you are not the only one in the world, it's just bad luck. Go back to the store where you get your z, see if you can get an exchange.
If you Google the problem you will find some people also have the same problem with their phones.

When you see black dock means you need to send to service center and claim new one as got people did before. There is no way to fix this problem ,maybe camera had enter some water and spoil that camera.

Definitely dust inside. I've had it, still get it.... Best fix is to give the phone a bang... Seriously. Or try and get out replaced...

Manufacture defect in our screens? Internal Dip?

The day i got my Galaxy S4 i went straight to charge the device. I left it on my nightstand which is under a window and when i saw the reflection of my blinds through the screen, they where bent out of shape and the reflection looked distorted. Looking closer, the screen seems to have a circular dip in the middle left-ish area. All the devices I tested this do not have a distort. (iphone 5 and 4S, the SIII)
I'd like for everyone to look at there device and make sure they don't have this also. I cant check the devices over at carrier stores, abit busy sadly...
I've given a Sample of lines that u can use as a test and also left a quick video, ill try to make a better one but its all i could at this moment. Also its extremely hard to get it on a video vs what u see in person =/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ej5VCPnKls
Best way's too test are as follows.
1) place your phone right in front of you on your computer desk and look at your Monitors reflection. It works extremely well when you look at Lines or a lot of text.
2) Look at a bunch of stuff that's well lit.

yeah the screen works and looks fine. But im just worried still. ill be visiting Bestbuy and a sprint store Tuesday see if its a universal thing. If it isnt, could save some people in there 14day return time-span. Especially after seeing this thread you never know.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271880

Man, I have exactly the same problem and the easiest way for me to see it is to have a reflection of a fluorescent tube on the black screen. It's ugly! This doesn't seem to be a universal thing, though, because this is the first post I have come across since I found out about the distortion problem. Did you find out anything at Bestbuy?

Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
My first galaxy s4 had dead pixels, my second galaxy s4 had scuffing all over it, a large scratch on the MICRO sd card port, overheated and would constantly shut off, followed by the display that completely died a day later. Sprint advised me to give the HTC one a shot. As soon as I got the HTC one home, noticed paint run off, gaps between panels, dings, dents, pretty much the poorest quality control standards I have ever seen. Now I have to find away to get sprint to allow a FOURTH return on a 600.00 device. I may have to get mean, I dont like to act that way, but what sprint has put me through to obtain a working 600.00 high end device is not acceptable, I would not wish the experience I am going through on my worse enemy.
Im not picky, and I understand mistakes when they happen. But two damaged/defective S4's, and one damaged/defective HTC one in matter of 7 days? I really cant even believe it.
All I buy is Samsung products when it comes to electronics, never in my life have I EVER received two defective units in a row. I feel like a crazy crack addict every time I go back to the sprint store and request a replacement. If sprint didn't have a 14 day satisfaction guarantee, I would be out 600.00, because there is no way in a million years samsung or HTC would take responsibility for scuffing or damage to the body of the device. Even with sprints 14 day satisfaction guarantee, you are only allowed 1 device exchange. So basically, im entitled to nothing with this issue, and any day sprint is going to show me the door or refer me to Asurion for a 3 day old 600 dollar phone.

wow really?
sounds like they are trying to rip you off..
I just got mine back today, apart from the broken power button I let them know that I had touch screen problems, yellowish screen and little dirt inside the back camera.
They replaced display, ram, camera, the glass back and even the aluminum frame (I had a scratch on it and now its gone)
so its like a new phone and I didn't have to pay a penny. Only issue that remains is yellowish screen but that's fixable with the new white balance settings..
You should call them again and tell them that the ring just fell off on normal usage, its their fault for not making it more durable, you shouldn't have to pay anything.
Same thing happened on my z 1 compact does anyone know where to find the ring? I Lost mine

[Q] Slight warping on back?

Has anybody else experience any slight warping or denting on the back of the phone? My fiancé has an X and is careful with it and it also has a case. I was messing with the phone and removed the case the other day and noticed that there seemed to be slight warping on the back. My Razr M has a similar warping on it. Not sure if it's the battery heat or what. It's minor but I was just curious. I'll be upgrading to the X shortly.

I don't know about the M, but the X has a slightly curved back - it's not supposed to be flat - and an indent under the "M"

I couldn't quite tell if he was being sarcastic, which is why I shot him a "Thanks". She is still under warranty since she only got it a little over a month ago so I'll shoot her the feedback I get here. I've attached two pictures. The original and then an edited photo highlighting the area in question. It's very slight and hard to see, but if I move my fingers over the upper left area on the back I can feel what I can only describe as a dent or slight warping. The right side in the same area feels smooth to the touch. There seems to be a speaker on the right side. Not sure if the two sides are slightly different because of this or not.

Hmmm, does the bump cause anything to malfunction? My thought is if it's not outright noticeable to you a warranty center could possibly overlook it. My fear here is that you send it back and they tell you they didn't notice anything. Anyway, I think you got what you needed.

I wasn't being sarcastic, just eliminating the obvious first. Like the other guy said, never assume someone knows something.
I haven't seen that on an X before, but my experience with battery warping has been closer to the center of the device/battery rather than on one side or a corner. Not sure what would cause that, but I'm not terribly familiar with what's located where under the back this phone. There's got to be a teardown somewhere, though.
Oh, and not to nitpick, but "he" is a "she."

Notification about closing back properly

Am I the only one that randomly get a notification to properly seal my back cover to make sure it's water tight?
Also, can somebody post a picture of the inside of the back door? I wanted to compare it to my rubber seal as mine looks like it's at a different angle in one spot than the rest and wanted to make sure it's made that way and it's not a lemon,

get exactly the same, its as closed as its going to get but keeps popping up about closing the back properly when I turn the phone on.
I don't think there's actually any correlation to the physical condition of the back. I think it's just a cover-your-ass thing by Samsung.

Nope, not the only one -- I believe every S5 model does this. As someone said above, it's Samsung covering their ass so they can't be blamed if you get it water damaged. I get a warning every time I reboot, every time I unplug charger, and most times I pop off the back. I also don't see any box that says don't show again. I wish I did
Here's the picture of the inside of my S5's back cover -- SM-G900A model:

Hmm, after taking another closer look at mine...I notice that same thing in about the same spot. It may not be apparent in the picture I posted due to the lighting and resizing it, but here's the full-res shot: http://i.imgur.com/oOoRfAW.jpg
Now I'm hoping this is normal and doesn't affect the water resistance lol. Even with it that way, I honestly don't see how it would affect the resistance.
Yeah i see. I guess its just less apparent than my black back

But you had to remove and replace the cover when putting the battery in, no?

Yes of course! I meant that I didn't touch or play with the rubber gasket

Ya, but weirdly, the first day i didnt get any notification, it only started the second day when i actually remembered it was IP67 and wanted to see how, it then that i removed the cover and got the first notification. So i'm pretty sure there is a sensor to detect if it was opened
Hi,
seems to me, as if it is designed that way. I'm waiting for my S5 to be delivered, but looking at photos like this one:
(Picture from "theguardian dot com/technology/2014/apr/11/samsung-galaxy-s5-review-android")
It looks to me like the rubber seal changes its path to accommodate for the little space, comparable to the space left at the bottom for the battery-remove-hole. Their rubber seal has your phenomenon too, so I'd say it is normal.
Greetings,
Zuujin

Thread will be moved in Q&A section. Black dots on camera are hardware problem, so only solution for fix it is to change camera module.

When last time did you clean dust off your camera lens? Clean it and see if it gone Suggested solution compressed air.
Don't know what exactly cause that, but some people mention that black spot syndrome is because water, that condense there, and broke some pixel in sensor. Sounds plausible.
Other causes is dirt entering the camera sensor module. (But, how can? The phones are tightly sealed, so very minimal dust inside)
Why in HDR mode and Video stabilization turned on the black spot gone? Because the black is removed by using averaging movement algorithm. The software find that odd, and removed that black spot, using nearby pixels.
That is not because the camera lens dirty. If the camera lens dirty, the black color is not focused, blurred with color.

First of all, I worked in Sony repair center and I've seen this problem many times. In some cases problem was gone with cleaning but in most cases problem was in defective camera lens.
Everyone I know (myself included; a total of 4 people) have had this problem with the Xperia Z.
Two of which never touched water. For a water / dust proof phone, for this to be an issue based on either of those is heavily questionable.
But I'll admit I've washed my phone and used it in the rain a few times and it's perfectly fine. I just don't recommend this phone to people who want a good camera lol.
Maybe its the high CPU temp...

Can confirm I now have two black dots in photos taken. Never been in water.
I'm thinking it might be software as it never happened on 4.3?

OMG I thought I was the only one with this problem..
My phone never touched water, so I think these are burnt pixels in the camera..
I can't really think of something else.

All you need to do guys is to send your phone to repair center. I had same problem, my camera lense had over 50 black dots (dead pixels). They changed me few things and now it works as new .
