[DISCUSSION][ROM]Stock Rooted Deodexed/Odexed MDL - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

This is the place for all discussions that are related to my stock rom.
Rom Thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41192248
It appears that something in the new system is generating a security alert if you are rooted. Researching, more info to come.

Thanks! Just to confirm then, the "NO Data Wipe" versions do not wipe data? In the OP it says "The data wipe versions do not delete the /data/media folder."

That is correct. What the data wipe version means is that it wipes the data but keeps your internal storage (i.e. pictures, music etc...) from being wiped.

Ok cool. That makes sense. I was overthinking it.

Hey Crawrj when moving between odexed and deodexed shouldnt u always wipe cache, dalvik and system?

My zips do it for you. I never wipe data either, unless I am testing

Is this rom based on the update pushed today? So if I'm already rooted, just flash in recovery like every other rom?

Wait I don't see the rom.. did you pull it?

It is in the dev section. Had the wrong link in the OP. It is fixed now. Yes it is from the update today. It looks like it is throwing security alerts if you are rooted. Checking into it when I get time.

K I'll hold off then cuz I'm rooted, thanks bud

Cool. Just waiting for the odex version.
EDIT: On second thought, I guess I should wait until they get the 'annoying message' issue figured out.
Thanks!

Question: Since a kernel is not part of the ROM, what kernel is recommended? or do I flash ontop of the MDC kernel?

You can either keep the MDC kernel or install Shabby's MDL kernel. I will be putting it in the OP of the Rom later but for now it is in the OTA zip thread. Around page two I think.

Thanks! Installed the odex no wipe, then kernel, then nag fix. Froze seandroid after boot.
Everything seems to be working fine!

OK still testing but this is what I got. I restored back to MDC. I installed MDL Rom. I installed Shabby's kernel. I installed the Nag Fix. I rebooted. As soon as the system came up the nag was there. Immediately rebooted on my own, not with the prompt. It has been about 30 minutes and the nag has not returned. I am trying to get the modem to work but will do more lengthy testing later on. This damn modem is kicking my ass. Never had this much trouble before.
Edit: The nag came back.

I did odexed mdl rom data wipe, mdl nagfix, and mdl hotspotmod.
I installed google wallet and it says unsupported device.. can you point me what i did wrong and to the direction to get it work?
and i know it's noob question but what is MDL and MDC? i just got GS4 yesterday i'm so confused.
Thanks

I believe it is going to say that as long as you are rooted. I have never used Wallet so I am not sure if there is a fix for that. MDC and MDL are the OS versions. M is the year 13, D is the month 4 and L is the day or revision +9. It used to be two number which made it a lot easier. MD21 instead of MDL. Not sure why it was changed. Hope that helps.

I have never used it so I can't say for sure. Hopefully someone that has used it can answer.
Edit: Got the answer in the other thread.

That's not a bad idea, I might do that, but it is nice to have them in separate threads as well, that way you don't get confused by the different questions/issues that are being posted for different mods.
Successfully flashed this, what else do I need to do to get rid of that notification? Err, nevermind I'm stock Odex'ed so at least I'm confirming this doesn't work on Odexed.

I figured it wouldn't. If you're rooted, you can use Titanium backup to deodex, flash it, then re-odex. (This might be a Pro only feature though, I'm not sure of that, but Pro is totally worth it anyways.)
crawrj knows how to odex it, My kitchen isn't setup for odexing right now, it's actually kind of a mess right now... I have so many different mods I'm working on, haha, I get so confused sometimes.
Maybe I'll have him get us an odex version of this.

Just noticed this thread. I will Odex this soon. I will also join the hotspot with it because right now you can only have one or the other unless you use a Rom that includes them both.

Yeah, I'm going to update ForceROM to include them both. But please do, I can close this thread so that it's only for reference, then you can just post it along side the Hotspot thread and the more we add more services.jar changes, maybe change the thread to "services mods" or something... and make each version for people who only want certain mods.

You can just put them in your OP if you want. If the need arises as more Mods are added, one of us can do an AIO thread later on.
Edit: OK looks like you already have them combined.

[MOD] [NAE] [MK2] [Odex] [DeOdex] Enable Native HotSpot

Ok, following the lead of @crawrj, I have put together the Native HotSpot for the NAE update.
I have also added the MK2 HotSpot mods to this thread. They were buried inside crawrj's original thread, and there still seems to be some demand, so here they are also.
I flashed these using the newest philz recovery (6.15.4), but I think for these, the recovery you use doesn't really matter. Let me know if you have issues.
Not many of you are probably DeOdexed at this point, but both versions are available.
NANDROID backup first please !!! Just because they worked fine for me doesn't mean there might not be problems !!!
IMPORTANT: If you are running a custom rom and the author has made any changes to the services.jar file, this will overwrite them !!! Who knows what kind of issues will pop up. If you are unsure, ask in the thread for the rom you are running.

Haven't looked in on the stock(ish) thread for awhile. Are they bugging you to death for the NAE Stock(ish)... lol
Did you flash either one of these to see if they work ok?
ps I also have a 4x6, 4x5, 3x4 if you're interested. Debating on whether or not to post it up. Don't really have time to support it.

Did you make a nandroid? If so recover from the recovery mode. Also I believe this is only for the NAE stock rom. Most other custom roms come with the hot spot option so no need to flash the native hot spot . Good luck.

Most custom roms will already have this built in. Also, most custom roms will make some kind of changes to the services.jar, which this will overwrite.
My mistake for not saying that in the OP. I'll get it updated.

I remember others complaining of this before in other threads. Did a quick search for 'HotSpot Menu Missing" and came up with this: Click Here It's from crawrj's original thread.
Check it out, and let us know what happens.
Stock rooted, no recovery (I'm weird like that sometimes), manually replaced the files. Worked but borked my phone, any app that updated or got installed afterwards immediately crashed. Including my root explorers. Used goo and installed twrp. Actually flashed the zip, didn't fix it. Replaced the files with original through twrp, fixed. Flashed the zip again and everything is all fine now. Tried out hotspot at work yesterday.
So I guess the moral of this is screw Knox.

Tried it on i537 and worked. After install and reboot it showed a screen "Android is Upgrading, optimizing apps x of 133". After that, checked the phone and it appears that it's working properly. Thanks!!

Well I updated the script with the changes/additions iJo09 posted with the exception of the build.prop since I've modified mine beyond what iJo09 mentioned and doubt many other people would want the changes. It flashed alright and my phone booted, but I haven't tested beyond that yet since it's late.
-edit-
So far my phone's working as expected with no issues or errors.

I just needed some free time to do it properly. Making an international gsm firmware work fully on Verizon is a pain in the you-know-what.
I also had the motivation of wanting to fully port the G3 camera driver which I never got around to with the initial G3 port I did with Cloudy and Tangjun. I'm happy to say it was worth it. Hope you enjoy it.

I'm sure everyone will, awesome job getting CDMA support mashed into it. I can't imagine how difficult that could have been
Coming from CloudyG3 with TWRP 2.7.0.0 can i just perform all the steps above or would it be better to restore to stock 26a first? Wipe system? Last time I went from CloudyG3 back to stock I lost knock on and had to restore it using your hiddenmenu apk. Any idea if I can expect something similar? Willing to be a bit of a guinea pig if you think I'll have a better than not chance for success.

No need to...just follow the install directions above. The only reason you (or anyone) ever lost knock-on is because they had flashed a kernel (if it's included with the rom it's the same thing) that enabled knock code and consequently updated the touchscreen firmware. Knock code also has a framework component that LG/Verizon for whatever reason never included in their firmware...so when you came back to a vs980 stock rom you also lost knock-on due to the newer firmware not being compatible with that firmware. It's a simple as that. All that has EVER been needed to restore it is a simple 10 second procedure.
This firmware package DOES have framework support for knock-on, so I built my kernel to use it. If you switch back to a VS980 Stock rom after this, you'll need to do the touchfw update in one of the 4 different ways that have been detailed.
I flashed XDABBEB's VS98026A Boostack but my Twrp version in twrp says 2.8.0.1. Am I ok to proceed?
Edit: I serched for blastagator and found his thread for twrp. I updated to the newest that way.
I'm moving on...
@xdabbeb am I reading this correctly that it is bumped and not loki'd?

The bootstack is the same one I had posted for my 26A rom. I didn't/don't want to confuse people with having more than one bootstack zip for now while everyone transitions from loki to bump. That said, if you had just continued on to install the rom you would've noticed that the firmware zip installs the new/bumped 2.8.1.2. Just follow the steps and you'll be fine.

Did you need to install the RootCloak xposed module? I know that this ROM hides root, and I confirmed that in the settings, but when I start Soft Card it tells me it can't be run on a rooted device.

Yes, I installed xposed framework and rootcloak to get it to work. Also, if you are running ART you need to disable before trying to get xposed to work.
I'm so psyched this is finally coming out, I'd given up on ever seeing this ROM come out a few months ago and have been putting up with the roaming bug on CloudyG3 ever since. So glad I don't have to deal with that crap now. Thanks man.

[Trailblazer101][ROM][6/7][OE2] LightlyCleaned/Rooted ROM

LightlyCleaned/Rooted ROM - OE2
How's it going guys! Since no one else has released a ROM yet for OE2 I'd release what I made for myself This is lightly cleaned, removing what I found to be unnecessary.
PLEASE READ!
You're going to have to be on OC3 right now to flash this, since OE2 itself doesn't have root yet! You can be deodexed/odexed, running a custom ROM, whatever, it'll work. HOWEVER, you will need to flash an additional package with ODIN or whatever tool you use, since the modem/recovery/boot(/kernel)/cm/sboot was updated. You can't use FlashFire for this right now, since it does not detect the cm/sboot files within the package, and they need to be updated for the phone to boot. I tried updating them with a zip package, however it didn't stick. So alas, ODIN it is, for now... So, flash this before booting into the ROM for the first time, by holding down Power + Home + Volume Down until you see the Download Screen. Let go, then press Volume Up. Flash accordingly, making sure to put the *.tar package in the AP section..
This allows you to be on OE2, and maintain root
I'm not responsible if anything bad happens.
Quick Step-By-Step: 1. Flash the ROM using FlashFire. Then immediately after it is done... 2. Flash the TAR package using ODIN 3. Party
HINT (thanks @coton!): You can change the Reboot Settings within FlashFire so that once it's done doing its thing, it can automatically reboot into download mode Just select my package in "Flash ZIP or OTA", then once configured at the bottom click "Reboot". Select "Download" and you are good to go!

Here's a long answer, for ya I started on a OC3 rooted ROM. I modified the OE3 update package to allow flashing this on a rooted build. Flashed it, then extracted the new system files (as they were now patched/updated). I manually patched the boot.img and modem.bin files by placing the originals from the OC3 ODIN package, and running "applypatch" on them with the patch provided from the update package. Patching the recovery was more tricky, because of the way the update package was set up. So I had to use the included sh script to patch and install the latest recovery, and then extract it using adb shell and "cat ....". I had to open that pulled recovery then in a hex editor because it included a lot of empty space at the end. After that, I confirmed the sha1 matched what it was supposed to be as mentioned in the updater-script from the official package, and it did!

You are correct, DropBox shuts off your Public links if they get too much attention. and since you guys went ham, rightfully so (lol), they shut me down. So Mega it is, and we're half way there! Also I'm glad to hear it worked for those of you who were able to download it before!
oh and @2swizzle I'm guessing your referring to being able to have the 'feeds' while the screen is on? I've looked into it, and there was a lot of code removed that enabled that from the Note Edge to our phones-- the framework classes that incorporated it are basically stubs now. Although I could try adding it back in, in my personal opinion it'll be kind of... eh. it's not like the Note Edge where because of the more distinct curves it feels like a separate screen, of sorts, and it kind of just works. But with the S6 Edge since it's not as pronounced, it'd be more intrusive, make the aspect ratio weird, and decrease the amount of available screen size, when some already consider what we have is small, when comparing to the phablets of increasing popularity.

Working great so far, haven't found a single bug.
For those of you who haven't downloaded yet, I noticed that with FlashFire when you set it up to flash the rom, you can set the reboot option to go directly to download mode so you're ready for the odin update.
