which sdk did you download and install? The adt bundle or just the sdk? The reason I'm asking if you install the sdk in a directory then change the path by moving it from the downloads folder it wont work.
my path is
C:/Downloads/adt-bundle-windows-x86_64/adt-bundle-windows-x86_64/sdk/platform-tools
also if you installed the sdk without administrator privledges it could cause adb not to work.
uninstall the sdk and right click on the setup file and select "run as administrator"
and see if that works

I'll give it a try, thanks
EDIT: Latest adt-Bundle

good news is your adb on computer is set up correctly.
bad news is either the rom or your phone is not seeing the usb cable connected.
Try a different rom and see if you have the same result.
Also if you have twrp for a recovery try to see if you can sideload a rom.

Damn it!
now i have to flash 8.0 from TrickDroid...
Hope 8.0 brings this feature!

that's a step in the right direction. Now try adb devices and make sure usb debugging is on
also installing htc sync should take care of the rest of those drivers. But you should be able to connect to adb now.

[GUIDE] One Click How to Root the Wildfire with Unrevoked 3.21

Note: It does not work on 2.2.1 Wildfire's (i.e. - Any bought after Feb - March 2011)
I first want to thank everyone at UnrEVOked for what they've done. I'm posting this because there aren't any really detailed instructions. Its an easy enough root, but I know I've been there before and even the simplest things can be tough if things aren't laid out. So here's a step by step tutorial.
Due to some bugs, Unrevoked 3.2 was taken down shortly after being released, but the updated version is now LIVE! So obviously we're going to bring you a video tutorial on how to do it! Thanks to the guys at Unrevoked for giving us this simple solution to rooting the HTC Buzz (Wildfire).
LINK TO VIDEO WALKTHROUGH FOR HOW TO ROOT THE WILDFIRE
◄●REQUIRED DOWNLOADS●►
EVERYONE: Unrevoked3. Download the version for your OS.
WINDOWS USERS: unrEVOked modified USB driver
◄●How to Install HBOOT Drivers (Windows Users ONLY)●►
If you're using Windows, you're going to have to install the HBOOT drivers first. You can follow this video tutorial:
How to Install HBOOT Drivers
and follow along with these written instructions provided by the Unrevoked team:
Download the unrEVOked modified USB driver and expand it somewhere you will remember.
Turn off your phone, then boot it into the HBOOT menu by holding power and volume down.
On your phone, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses.
Connect the phone to your Windows machine with a USB cable and wait for the phone to say HBOOT USB PLUG on screen.
Open Device Manager.
Click Start, then right click on Computer, then click Properties, then click Device Manager.
Under Other devices, you should now see the Android 1.0 device.
Right click on Android 1.0 and click Update Driver Software:
Click on Browse my computer for driver software.
Click on Browse and select the Android USB Driver folder on on your computer, click ok, then click next.
You should get a status bar indicating that the driver is installing. If you get any warnings, just click Ok.
Your driver should install.
Click Close and make sure Android Bootloader Interface is listed under Android Phone.
◄●Instructions●►
Make sure you downloaded Unrevoked3 for your OS.
If you're on Windows, make sure you "uninstall HTC Sync or any other program that might talk to the phone over USB (doubletwist, etc). They will cause problems" (Unrevoked.com).
Plug your phone into your computer with USB.
Drag down from the notification bar on your phone and select "Charge Only" and "Remember this"
Make sure your phone has USB Debugging turned on by going to Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development and checking USB debugging.
Run the Reflash application that you downloaded.
Unrevoked will run its processes. Follow the few instructions it gives and thats it!
You're now rooted!
EDIT: If that doesn't work for you, follow these instructions:

Got my wildFire Rooted!
Most ways here didn't work to get it going, but here is how i got it working:
01. Installed HTC Synch
02. Ran HTC Synch with WildFire Connected
03. Closed HTC Synch
04. Downloaded Unrevoked 3 and ran it
05. Let it do the whole process (it did everything by itself (rebooting the wildfire in hboot mode etc...)
05. Installed HBOOT USB Drivers when it asked for it
06. At some stage it says something like rooting ... safe to restart if it doesn't work, it stays on that screen, close unrevoked3
07. Disconnected WildFire
08. Uninstalled HTC Synch (only the program, not the drivers)
09. Connected Wildfire to PC
10. Ran UNREVOKED3 again
11. HTC Wildfire is rooted now

Hi EveryOne!
I have some problems, with launching unrevoked 3 reflash_package.exe.
I did the USB driver setup, and it works.
I turned on the phone, USB debugging is allowed, just charging, no HTC sync on Laptop (win7 32bit), connect the phone via USB, launching reflash, it says: waiting for device... after 10 minutes, it is the same...
What should i do?

I actually got the drivers to work, but it was such a pain in the ass to do so and i forgot the steps i took.
From what i remember you need to go to safe-boot to turn off uncertified driver protection and then proceed to do advanced complex quantum physics actions in order to get it to work.
You should try googling "ADB drivers for windows 8", that was my procedure on doing it even though I have like 5 folders of drivers.

[Q] Rooting w/o USB connection

Hi, guys! I have a really big problem :/. Right now I'm using the stock 2.3.4 gingerbread from LG ,but you all know that this is the worst OS ever. I wanted to get rid of it but i cant connect my device to the computer. It's only charging. I need a way to root it w/o usb connection. Do u have any suggestions? It's not a software problem! Something inside the phone is broken and i don't know what it is. Is there a way to root it via bluetooth or SD card? I didn't find any apps to root it too. I know gingerbreak etc, but they dont work for 2.3.4. Thank you in advance and i hope there is a solution. :fingers-crossed:
I am afraid you can't. Replacing your micro usb port could solve your problem. I reccomend to buy a micro usb port which is already on the flexible cable so you can avoid ironing.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
So i'll need this? I asked a staff member in a service station and he said that the port isnt broken. So i need the whole thing port+flexible cable? Is that what i should do? Thanks alot. Ohh man i cant post links still: http:___//i.ebayimg.com/t/LG-G2X-Optimus-2X-P990-P999-Micro-USB-Charging-Port-Flex-Cable-Repair-Part-/00/s/OTU1WDE0MDI=/z/unUAAOxy9DRSAoTf/$T2eC16R,!wsE9suwycosBS!oTe7+VQ~~60_57.JPG
stupid question: did you try another usb cable or usb port?
Yeah, dude. Of course. I've tried different settings like usb debugging on/off too but still nothing.
here are some articles you might want to check out regarding usb connection
http://www.birdiesync.com/my-android-device-cannot-connect-over-usb

i forgot how the mass storage settings in gingerbread look like but there should be an option to put the phone in "charge only" mode (which you should disable)... pressing menu key in settings > storage doesn't give you any options to choose?
In gingerbread you can only turn usb mass storage and usb debugging on/off. These settings didn't help. I'll read more about the first link you gave me and try it out.

This is quite challenge, root without usb connection. First idea I got to use ADB over WiFi, but this is available from ICS, not on GB.
Second idea - what I remember, some of root methods use APK installation over ADB by script. Maybe you can search for these script methods and place all required files on SD Card. Then try to execute commands by terminal on device itself to install and root.
It's just my idea, maybe wrong, maybe help.

Yes that is what you need if you have to replace your USB port but you don't have skills to replace only the usb port.
You can try gingerbreak to root your phone, but it maybe won't work.

Guys, the problem is not in the computer nor in the cable, it's in the phone. I'm 99% sure that it's a hardware problem. So i need to find a way to root or flash it without using usb connection.
i'm somehow sure that the real problem here is the device driver installation on your PC/Windows, not the phone...

if you read the 1st post, you might find out how could it help you... especially if you use win 8 which caused problems for many other users when trying to install the drivers or trying to flash the phone...
I - Install APX (NVFlash Recovery) Drivers if not already installed.
It starts the windows device driver wizard to help you install the drivers needed for NVFlash. It detects your system OS and gives additional on-screen instructions needed if your PC is running Windows 8.
FYI: The drivers are located under ToolKitFiles\nvflash\driver folder.

ADB issues. Hangs on < waiting for device >

So I'm trying to flash the Google Play Edition RUU on my device. I have S-Off. When I try to read my CID, it says < waiting for device > and gets no further. I completely deleted my sdk and reinstalled it because I had read sometime this would be caused by needing to update your sdk. It does the same thing when I try to writecid. Does anyone know why it would hang like this when trying to read or write my CID. I'm running ARHD 13.3 with TWRP (don't know what version number) if that would have anything to do with this.
EDIT: Something else I noticed that may or may not be relevant. When I reboot into the bootloader, my computer says device not recognized.
Try using this guide.
Seems you don't have the driver installed.
However, did you try fastboot command in fastboot?
To use fastboot you need to
Fastboot reboot-bootloader
To use adb you need to be in recovery or live in the os.

I tried what that guide said prior to posting this thread. However, upon re-reading it, I think I have discovered my issue. My laptop only has USB 3.0 ports, and they said they could not get it to work over USB 3.0. I will set up the SDK on my wife's computer and use a USB 2.0 port and see if that resolves the issue. I'll investigate to see if what I'm trying to accomplish can be done on ChromeOS too, cause I'd rather use my Chromebook than take over my wife's computer.

How much does a replacement HTC One cost?

Tried rooting my phone, have never done it before (really stupid on my part) and now I can't even get into the phone, all I can do is access a recovery mode and a TWRP mode whatever that is. Looked up how to unroot it but my Mac doesn't even recognize my phone so it's pointless. Anyways, how much does it cost to replace a "broken" HTC One? Is it the price of an unlocked one or what? I'm currently on year 1 of my 3 year plan..

edit:
TWRP and recovery is the same mode.. actually TWRP is a special kind of recovery... it's a custom one with WAY more options than a stock one...

Well I've done the installation of fastboot and adb on my Mac (found a guide for it) but there's a step in the guide that requires my Mac to recognize my phone. It doesn't because I don't think "usb debugging" is on. No idea how to do that.

yeah this is bootloader... now you selected fastboot... press the powerbutton...
After you did it... plug your phone in to your mac...
There should be written FASTBOOT USB with red color behind...
if that's the case... try
Code:
fastboot devices
and hope your device gets recognized
edit: a punched thanks button would be highly appreciated

Actually tried this guide today. However, when I get to the part where you have to type in "./adb devices" into the terminal, I get this line of code:
"List of devices attached" with nothing after it. My phone does not get recognized.:crying:

I don't know if htc sync works for Mac.. but if it does install it... there are the drivers included...
otherwise... sorry... you need a windows... I did a research but didn't find any appropriate drivers.. Sorry... there is no other option than using a windows... maybe try uninstalling the drivers manually (if that works on mac) and plug in your phone again and let's see if the drivers get installed automatically...

Yeah HTC Sync doesn't recognize my phone. If I were to do this with a PC at school, how long do you think it would take?

Oh no! HTCSync isn't supposed to recognize your phone.... if you installed HTCSync try fastboot to recognize your phone...
At school... humm... 20minutes.. but you need administrator permission to install fastboot and adb and HTC drivers...
edit: I'll go to bed in a few minutes,.. sorry... GTM +1 ... it's 01:26 at night right now...
