4.3 leaked/in testing Galaxy S4 - Nexus 7 General

Seems as Nexus owners we're not the first to get the update this time. It could turn out to be an elaborate fake but probably genuine as Google are an experimenting company and have released two flagship devices with a vanilla Android option (although they're not "nexus"). From what I've read there doesn't appear to be any big changes (if any actually visible) and more fixes/optimisations.

Flashed it on my GS4 and working like a charm (and it's the international version of course). No root yet, so i'll switch back to 4.2.2 to get my apps lol (can't restore through TB Pro duh).
It's just a leak so don't worry about it. The Nexus devices will definitely get the 4.3 first.

Cool, I'm another few months away from a handset upgrade and so it definitely makes these phones an even better proposition, having access to stock android goodness. Was impressed seeing how quickly someone had put a vanilla 4.2.2 ROM together for the HTC One, then seen this and was very surprised.
Its good to see really as it shows that Google and the handset makers are finally getting why people like android so much and that is the option of choice and customisation. It may not be the exact reason for doing so but they must be conscious of it. As the last I/O conference showed, it was very developer orientated

I switched back to TW ROM for now. I found the camera app of TW to be of better quality and also if I have the S4, might as well use the features included in it.

So basically 4.3 has very little changes?? Mostly stuff no one will ever see or notice. In other words a placebo update basically to keep flash happys content until key lime comes out! LOL

Majority of what is updated won't be frontend. Just additions to the internal workings of android. Maybe some slimmed down code for some Google system apps and such.

Upgrade time - How's the CM experience?

Upgrade just came up and I was considering getting the One. Loved CM10 on my Epic Touch 4G and was curious what the experience was like on this device. The button configuration seems odd on this phone so I wanted to get people's thoughts. Also, is the camera as bad as some say?
Thanks in advance.

But the HTC one is riddled with QC issues and doesn't really improve much over the last Gen of phones. The next Gen has snapdragon 800, 3000 mAh batteries and whatnot. Plus, the 800s are really close. Like the G2 is already here.
The One isn't that good IMHO. The camera is overhyped really and the number of defects people are reporting make this phone worth skipping.
To stay on track with your question the CM experience is something I don't think someone in their right mind would recomend. Hell it has a tendency to burn up some phones and need replaced.

I agree if your sole decision is CM. Then wait. Cm was better on my gs3 than on here. It's pretty buggy and as has been said there are many reports of people's phones bricking cause of cm. To the quality control issue... I have had none, this phone has been great in that regard... But maybe I'm just lucky . In all honesty, overall this is the best phone I've ever owned. I don't think you'd go wrong with this phone.

My $0.02:
For the short while I was able to use CM, I wasn't exactly blown away. It was exactly the same as my GS2, but with better specs. There were no extra features or anything. It looked nice with Black Infinitum, but again, not really different from my old phone. There were some bugs, so...
And you do have to watch out for the max freq lock, which will burn up your phone as it sits.
EDIT: However, CM Nemesis is coming soon. I would still wait for for a new device with better specs, but hey, this is a fairly new device.

I really haven't had any issues since 10.1
Sent from my One using XDA Premium HD app
I used it for a week while on vacation and while it was nice to see a less bloated One with all the additional customization .. there were several issues and features that made me go back.
The biggest was GPS lock - I could not get a steady lock and if I did the radius was quite large, throwing me all over the map.
The phone actually seemed less responsive overall - including a slight delay when turning on the phone.
Missed the htc car app - google car and the ones from the market are not the same
and the IR - now it has only come in handy once, when my remote died; however, the remote can be fun at the bar
The HTCOne is a unique phone, the button layout is strange and is my biggest headache. Contrary to most posts above I like the CM experience on it better then sense, but this is my first (and only ever!) sense phone. I much prefer the AOSP experience. CM is lacking in a few places but core functionality is there and works good enough for me for daily use, for the record I'm on 10.2 20130819
Truthfully though I think I would wait for a new nexus device. I love the feel of the One in my hand but it's nothing amazing hardware wise.

Does the music still sound wonky? 10.1 would make my songs really quiet then normal then quiet etc. It drove me crazy.
Also, does the wake still take like a second? That was also a problem with 10.1.

(they seem to have no doubt that the nexus 7 2013 will have it and besides the ram being 2gb and that AHD being 1gb, the specs don't between the two don't differ much [feel free to nicely correct me if I'm wrong])

Exactly! I personally am not down with the moto x. Its just a (very) slightly updated version of the matrix HD. And the real deal killer (from what I've heard) is that there's no f*#$%¡£ SD card slot.
Slightly of topic: since we where talking about kitkat running on older phones, does anyone else find it awesomely funny that the HTC dream/ T-Mobile G1 (the first official android phone) can run jellybean? Sure it's crap compared to ours now but the fact that it can even boot is cool.

i actualy did not know that and not only that att cut there main support for atrix hd as soon as moto-x came out and i haveused the moto-x its really more of a downgrade than an upgrade and you are correct it does not have a external sd card slot which prevents me from even thinking about the moto-x as a possible device
thats why i havent bought the nexus 4
Well I don't really think that 4.4 KitKat will be the next version of android. I don't know why but it just doesn't sound right. I mean all these hints from Google about klp for nothing? If you remember a Google employee had posted a picture of android eating klp which actually "confirmed" klp as the next version of android for me. It could be a marketing trick, like they show kitkat and then release 5.0 KLP . It could be a small "lie" from Google so that it keeps us thinking that they release 4.4 and then, boum they release 5.0. I could be wrong but I don't think 4.4 will be next version of android if you think how many android versions 4+ has supported (4.0, 4.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.3, and now 4.4???) All other android version numbers were supporting no more than two versions of android (1.5, 2.0, 2.2, 3.0,) Also I don't think Google would use a copyrighted name as their next version of android. Like I said, this could be a "trick" from Google or I could be totally wrong

well if cam is only doing kit kat for the nexus once i get ion stable enough, won't be hard to port it over with newer drivers for our exhibit. I just got this phone recently and plan on using for as long as possible. yes it wouldn't be hard to port it over now with pmem but to me if we are going to get any major performance boost we will need ION. Which is my biggest priority and most of the time working on.

It's not like N5 is using some different kind of whatsapp.. it's the same app & it'll FC while in ART..i hope that the next whatsapp update fixes this issue.. Titanium is also causing issues..

After reading this I switched to art and couldn't be happier. Everything seems to run better and faster, I will update in a day or 2 if I find any drawbacks.

Yeah I thought maybe it's a problem because it's only a port from the n5!

art works well on the aosp 4.4 builds as well. but, you need to use odexed gapps if you want art to work on aosp.
Tbh, things seem to be faster on art for me.

Obviously there is occasional stuttering, but it feels noticeably smoother. I am really looking forward for factory image and further development.

I'm running the n5 port from the day it was released and art seems so much faster. I don't use whatsapp so I dont have any problem apps yet.

I did a quick search for Odexed gapps but didn't turn up anything other than the full N5 port. Any suggestions on where to find them, or do they only work with stock images? TIA

pa odexed gapps http://d-h.st/8PP
there isnt a stock img yet.
This is some exciting stuff, can't wait for it to become the default runtime. Project Butter 2.0, if you will.
I started to use ART too since yesterday. I've tested all my apps, and the only thing that doesn't work is WhatsApp and Titanium Backup, the rest works fine. Not a big deal anyway, my friends switched to LINE already, ART is definitely faster.
I am on a port, and I have just tested ART for an hour and I gotta say the speed is equivalent to the PSX rom !

Kitkat for nexus one?

Android 4.4 clearly states that it only needs 512mb of ram to run. With that in mind, is it possible to build a kitkat ROM for the nexus one?
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
As cm has said. It is not just ram. It is storage and GPU power too

From what CM said, I concluded that there won't be new CM builds for abandoned devices. I assume that a 4.4 rom on our N1s wouldn't perform miraculously faster than the current 4.2/4.3 roms

Texasice already has kitkat booting

KitKat f*cked up abandoned devices because of that transparent status bar, some GPUs (considering N1's) may not be able to run it properly just because of that

It's possible to disable that in framework I believe.

I read on GSMArena that the Kitkat releases for Nexus 4/7 (1st gen) don't include the transparent bar either.
Btw shouldn't that thread be moved to the Q&A section?
