VZ G2 Official car dock - G2 Accessories

Hey all, I received my VZW G2 car dock in the mail today. Pretty basic, but I guess it will work. No power cord or aux cord integration - really pretty disappointed in that coming from Motorola accessories. Anyway I guess it will work ok, it triggers car home which is nice and has a removable shim so that it can accommodate a thin case. Let me know if you want pics.

Pics please..... Does it put the phone in a Vehicle mode when u put it in the dock? Pics of this as well! Thanks!!!!!!!

Here are some pics. This dock is really designed only to be used on the windshield. The severe angle of the post mount makes it impossible to mount it on a flat surface - which is exactly what I want to do in my car. Luckily I have discovered that the connection between the dock and the mount is the same as my Motorola dock, so I was able to swap to that mount with the LG holder and it works much better.
Another couple of issues with the design - the clip that holds the phone is hard plastic and very tight. I feel like it is definitely going to cause problems with a screen protector - look at the photo. The last issue is the car home app - it is pretty ugly and cannot be customized. Limited to one screen of default icons. There are options in the market, but this is pretty disappointing as again, Motorola does this part much better.
Anyway - I am not thrilled with it but I guess I will keep it until (hopefully) the 3rd party market comes out with something better. I get the feeling the VZW G2 is going to have very poor accessory support though.

The Verizon Motorola MAXX/Ultra dock fits the LG G2. The charge port is centered on the bottom just like the LG. It doesn't seem to activate car home mode although I didn't try it while power was applied - is car home activated by a magnet? I wouldn't care since the car home app sucks, but I like to use Tasker to automate turning on blue tooth while in the car.

That is interesting - forgot about the original MAXX dock. I have the MAXX HD. It looks like there is a small magnet on the back towards what would be the middle-left of the phone. I will grab a pic of the location when I go back out to my car later.

I've been looking for a car dock for the Verizon version! But I've been looking for one that has wireless charging built in too. Does anyone know if the Nokia wireless charging car holder would work?

I've been using the MAXX car dock with the G2 for a few days. It works well. I may put a magnet on it to activate car home. The only issue I've had is that when putting the phone in the dock you must press it firmly onto the micro usb connector or you may get a message that it cannot charge properly.

NFC tag imo

Problem w/ the Motorola dock is that it invalidates the camera. And will it work w/ a case?
Will the official VZW dock fit the AT&T version? The AT&T store didn't have an official car dock when I picked up mine. Just the generic ones which all looked like crap.

If you need the camera while docked, drill a hole in the car dock.
It will work with some cases. You'd have to try it. Main issue is getting the usb connector inserted far enough into the phone to charge it.

^This. Has anyone tried it yet? Seems like it would work since the Nokia dock is universal on the phones that it uses. Wonder if the NFC on the dock will still work.

I'm interested. Was going to buy a G2, but I need a car dock that triggers car mode and allows me to charge the phone. Can you still access the usb plug to hook up a charger when the phone is in the dock. If I don't find a compatible dock I'll have to get the MOTO MAXX.

Ive had the lg qi wireless Charing car dock for a month or so now and love it. That plus Bluetooth I just toss my phone in it, start the car and go. Its nice not having to worry about plugging anything in

I have the VZW G2 car dock. and use the VZW holster and it would not fit with case on only with no case and insert in .. Was very unhappy with this as did not want to to put case on and off etc just wanted to throw in dock as needed quickly... Do delivery part time and use phone for nav. Even ordered I-Bolt universal from Amazon last night... Today I remembered that when I bought my phone on Swappa it also had a new Incipio Feather Shine case I never used because I use holster... Today I saw the Incipio in bottom of box phone came in... Had forgotten about it. .. Put it on and phone fits in dock and clips in... Also to my surprise phone with incipio case on it fits in holster... I also use car home ultra with XPosed instead of LG car dock app... Have LG car mode frozen and putting phone in dock does trigger car mode. I also use my car charger if needed and it can be charged while in dock.. Maybe might be sending I-Bolt right back to Amazon when it comes in. lol

How should the perfect Vehicle Dock for Note II look like? From iBOLT...

Hello everyone, we at iBOLT (www.ibolt.co) are working on a "real" car dock for the Note II. As we are finalizing the details it would be great to have feedback and input from this knowledgeable user community. Here's some of the questions where it would be great to have some feedback on: which type of microUSB charging is optimal (fixed position or flexible so it works with cases), car mode (good or not?), wireless charging (does anyone care?), aux-out through microUSB with 9ft cord (too long?). Well, sound off and let us know and we'll read every comment Thanks!
One thing I'd be concerned with is -
does the wireless charging supply enough power for a maxed out Note 2?
i.e. screen on 100% full brightness, GPS going full tilt, CPU probably going at a healthy pace too.
We've seen a fair number of people with chargers that couldn't handle the load (i.e. their phone still drained battery even on the charger).

Great comment. The Car Dock for Galaxy Note II must work well with thicker cases type Otterbox Commuter/Defender, Ballistic, Trident etc. It would be great to hear from users that have Qi wireless charging solutions, like the Galaxy S III solution from Verizon etc. How well does it work with cases?
I do not really understand the car dock, so also do not understand perfect?
nice, i was hoping you guys would make one for the note ii.
please have a stiff-necked cup holder version. i find them much more stable and secure. i personally have a mini cooper, and the cup holders are right in front of the console. the usb cable/aux are right behind them, so it's perfect. 9ft is definitely too long, and would just clutter up the car.
as per the connection, consider the samsung infuse route...where it snaps into the bottom of the phone. wireless charging is nice, but i wouldn't pay more than +20 bux for it.
speaking of which, please do portrait mode, not landscape. portrait is way better for navigation.
last and the least, consider changing your company name.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
wow...i'm glad that you guys are advertising here....I have never seen a better car dock before....
I have been looking for a dock that can fit my phone with the many different cases (thickness) I have, So definitely keep the "Flexible MicroUSB Arm please". I also like the idea of being able to attach it to either the windscreen or the dash.
I t would be nice to see the wireless charging feature and also one size fits all for different size phones. It would look very bad to have 2 docks in my car for both of my phone and my wife's phone.
Please let us know when the dock comes out for the note 2. Can't wait!:good::good::good:
I think the cable should be included in the dock hidden, so the bottom is not fugly with a cable in the car.
personally tbh your s3 dock is hideous, it is WAY too big and covers WAY too much of the phone. it needs to be slim and transparent, as if it were never there.
also for those who don't want a big fat suction cup on their window or dash, we would like something that attaches to any surface, or something that attaches to the vents where your aircon comes from. e.g. middle of car or on drivers side by window. so it's hiding from public and not IN YO FACE when driving :highfive:
Wow I'm glad to see you are making a car dock for the Note II. I'm deciding between the Note II and the S3, and your dock was the main one I was looking at for the S3, and was hoping there would be a good one for the Note II as well.
Liked the S3 version but still as ive read earlier Portrait mode is better in car, i always use portrait mode, and i also think you can do a fixed usb when in portrait cause then its centered when standing, also reducing stress on the usb port when putting in the charger all the time..
when in portrait, holder could also be more slimmer. personally i would like a vent holder since it wont disturb my view out.
Qi wireless charing would be a blast since i only would have to put it in the holder and my car already have Bluetooth. i would pay extra for that.

Anyways, I think the GS3 iBolt dock is awesome. I think I read this dock is made mostly to be placed on the left side of the steering wheel in landscape. This is where my past docks go and is where I think it's at it's best. I would say remove the charging LED to help reduce production cost. Everything else is great.

Fixed position that works with the naked phone. If it takes on holding cases it will have to much a overly big look.
I am not sure about wireless charing, I do not know how big of a gap that means there can be between the device and the source providing wireless power.
I definitely like car mode for the simple reason that is locks my phone screen on so i don't have to fumble with it when i need to use it while driving.
I personally don't use an aux out and do everything through bluetooth so I don't care for aux-out through usb.
I currently use the samsung made gs2 epic 4g touch car dock and i really like the fact that it covers pretty much 0% or the screen and it doesn't have anything that sticks out past the screen.
For me being as minimal as possible is what i look for and while still providing stiff support.
I read some people's reviews and comments saying for the S3, the power button can get knocked when driving. Is this common, or is there a way to prevent this?
Is this a problem with the Note 2, or could it maybe lay landscape the other way so the power is on the top? But then I guess you won't have access to volume controls...
Doesn't matter I guess, as this issue is probably resolved by using a case.
The issue i have with car docks, desktop docks etc and the current Note 1 (which would probably happen with the Note 2) is that you can't really place them in the dock if they have the official Samsung Folio cover. One has to remove the back cover/Folio so they can be place in the dock.
TS
I'd way prefer the fixed charging - I hate having to fiddle around with cables once I've put the phone in. I want to be able to just slide the phone in and have it just connect. Whether that means wireless charging or a fixed position charger doesn't matter to me though. I don't really use cases with my phones so it doesn't matter too much to me, but agree it would just add bulk to the holder if it needed to accommodate them.

Wireless charging would be awesome! One less thing to plug in when I dock the phone. Another feature that would be perfect would be the ability to rotate the device portrait or landscape.

completely agree with you
audio out through the micro usb port is a must, but my car plugs into the 3.5mm port on the phone/whatever instead of the other way around, I'd like to not have to get a 3.5mm female - female adapter to use it in my car.
The dock absolutely MUST be designed similar to how the htc evo lte dock is set up. The thing that isn't as appealing with the sgs3 dock is that you have to plug the micro-usb connector in all the time. The best part of having a vehicle dock is being able to place the phone in the dock and go. Also, having a 3.5 jack that can output via adaptor spliced with the micro-usb connector is a must have. Obviously, it'd be ideal to also design it to accommodate those that use cases
2 car docks you can take cues from would be the original note dock and the motorola docks. Please make it happen.
---------- Post added at 12:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:08 AM ----------
The trickiest part would be creating a dock that meshes what you did for the HTC Evo LTE dock and the Galaxy S3.
---------- Post added at 01:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 AM ----------
For examples, here is the Motorola Razr Maxx Vehicle Dock:
http://media.tecca.com/2012/04/14/m...maxx-xt912m-mobile-phones-angleimage-320w.jpg
The original Note vehicle dock:
http://i2.expansys.com/img/b/224728/samsung-original-vehicle-dock-kit-for-galaxy-note-5-3.jpg
3.5mm audio adaptor/USB charger that would plug into the back of the dock and into the usb slot of a car charger
http://www.motorola.com/us/consumer...icle-Docks/m-Custom-Audio-Cable,en_US,pd.html
Now, take those concepts, add the ability to use with/without a case, and that would be the perfect dock.

Anyone taken apart the Verizon version to see if the Qi charging can be switched out?

I'm just wondering if there is anyone that has seen what makes the Verizon version so special it has wireless charging. If it is just a simple pad, it could be added to the other phones too.
I'd like us all to have wireless charging.

There are some pics floating around, I think here or in some of the reviews.
But the Verizon backplate is different since the case is thicker to accomodate the Qi stuff. Youd need that new backplate. But another "rub" is that the buttons on the other variants are different size, so if you tried to put a Verizon backplate on an ATT phone you would need to modify the button and camera holes, and add one more for the noise cancelling mic.
Sounds like if the connections are there, it could be something a third part could manage. I'd definitely buy a replacement back with the Qi built in

I wonder if it's similar to the Note 2. I hacked that to have wireless charging based off an internet guide. Put in the coil, use copper tape as conductors from the coil to the battery, and voila. It worked with the Palm charger though, which I assume is different than the one Verizon g2 uses.
If anyone has a way to order the Verizon g2 door I'd be willing to crack my AT&T D800 open and give it a shot.
Hmm come to think of it I still have that Palm wireless charger and an extra Palm coil at home, anyone care to venture a guess if this would work, or would I end up frying something? This is what I used.

I don't think you would fry anything... I just don't know if the room is there to fit it in the back nor where it hooks up.
Note: it might be better to leave the back off and use a case to hold the coil in

Here's what I do, It's a Nokia DT-900 stuck on an Ibolt Ilumina car dock and wired into a 12v plug. Works like a champ!
I had to take apart the DT-900 and leave the back off of it to make it thinner, then I used 3M mounting tape to hold it in place.
Also, the back is actually pretty easy to take off. Just start separating it with a fingernail on the side and then work your way around slowly.
there are still two pins on the AT&T and Tmobile version. I have a S4 Active with a wireless QI receiver in it. Basically the OEM charging back for the S4 has 4 pins like the verizon one but for my wireless charging only these two have to be connected. There may be a chance we can mod the wireless receiver to work with the QI charger. The S4 verison works great. I could be wrong though but it might be worth looking into to
Now the QI wireless receiver I have it a little thick but they have thinner ones available
The Korean G2 F320L I have has 4 connectors on the right next to the battery. It would simply need a wireless coil pack added from the F320 wireless charging cover.
Anyone been looking into this? I'm really excited to get a G2 but missing out on Qi seems like a pretty lame drawback.

The two pins seem to be connected or something on the back cover, could this be for NFC instead or is wireless charging actually in them?
I don't think those pins on the TMO variant are for wireless charging. They look like grounds for antennas to me.
Comparing the VZ to the TMO, the wireless charging looks to be missing. You can see the big coil on the back cover of the VZ and it's connected to the 4pin connector at the top left of the VZ phone. That same plate is missing on the TMO variant.
I know the s4 just uses two coils, but LG looks to use 4 of them. Doesnt look like it's possible with the TMO variant. Would love to see AT&T and Sprint though....but probably same as TMO.
Don't really mean to be super silly here but those super conveniently placed white/black wires seem to link the charging board and the mainboard where the battery plugs in.
Anyone here want to bite and pop open their back cover and take the plastic covers off and stick a multimeter to them and see if it'd directly connected to the battery or usb?
Dang, seems to be "antenna interconnects" according to a Nexus 4 tear down. Wonder why there's 2 on the G2 though.

Car mounts - any available?

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

Yup, right here:

But the thing is, Verizon units are thicker with wireless charging capabilities. Thus, this holder may not work for other variants..

I thought you were talking about the wireless charging. Yah, its odd the dock doesn't come with a charger.
I'm still using my OwlPad wireless charger from my DNA days, but I don't connect the charging portion. Fits every variety of phone that I've had snugly!

It's not an official car holder, it's a universal one. But I've been so impressed with it on all my phones, it's worth a shot. Fits the g2 nicely and doesn't cover the bezel. Great customer service too.

I'm also hoping for a car mount real quick, as I'm going on vacation in a week and a half, and barring any sudden change, will be using my LG G2 (come on, Tuesday...) to nav. Worse comes to worse, I'll get a universal one. For my GS II, I'm using one made for, I think, the Motorola Atrix. A couple of years ago, AT&T had this great deal where you buy the desktop dock for 16 bucks and get the car mount for a penny.
Would really be nice if they put the wireless charger in the car mount.. then no wires that you have to fool with hooking up once you put it in there...
Surely I can't be the only person that can think of these things..

But the thing is, Verizon units are thicker with wireless charging capabilities. Thus, this holder may not work for other variants..

That mount doesn't charge the phone. I got a car mount with Qi wireless charging and it works great for my G2. I can give people the link if they want.
Edit:
Here's what I got. It works great and it doesn't cover the screen. The 2 grips don't bend in that much so it doesn't block the screen.

Thanks
Now the wireless car dock actually sounds useful. Too bad I have att: ( otherwise I don't see the big deal in putting your phone on a large pad that takes up space and has to be plugged in anyway. Now if they can build it into the arm of my couch or surface of my desk we got something good. Wireless furniture chargers.

I'm a little partial to the big, clunky mounts with beanbag bases, so this caught my eye. It's looks more like a general mount, even though the site mentions the G2 in the product title. Considering I really need one for vacation, I may go with this. http://www.shopandroid.com/arkon-we...ash-mount-and-slim-grip-holder/3A78A10703.htm
If anyone has any other ideas or found a more specific solution, I'm definitely listening.

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

The G2 fits very nicely. You must press it firmly onto the USB connector (on right in picture) or you will get an error that says the phone cannot be charged.

I happen to find this particular one at my local tech mall:
http://shipi.com/easy-one-touch-car-mount-universal-car-mount-fits-most-smartphones.html
The claws are thin enough not to cover the screen and the one touch function is awesome. I just need to "drop" my device into the mount and it will clip itself as there's a button that will trigger the claws to snap. :good:
I went by a local VZ store yesterday to check if they had the official dock. They did not. However, I did find that the Samsung Universal Navigation Mount holds the phone quite nicely and still allows access to the USB & headphone jacks as well as the camera out above the mount. At $30 online, I think that's the way I'll go.

Now this looks interesting. Does the phone still slow charge? Have you tried it with GPS running or music running with the screen on? Does it drain faster than it charges?
Thank for any answers you can provide!
Does the back come off? Haven't gotten mine yet.
I'd like to use one of these, but don't want to stick anything on the outside of the case.

I don't think the M8 supports Qi charging. Too much metal in the case.
or did he mean a Qi case with a built-in plug that goes into the phone's micro usb port? like they have for iDevices...

Ask and ye shall receive.. Sorry for the grainy pics, they were taken with an iPad Air. It's just so convenient to drop n charge. Haven't had to plug in for months.
A little further info.. I've got a bestskinsever matte body skin on the back of the phone, so i don't scratch it up.
Then I've got the qi receiver, and a slim steel plate that came with a magnetic car mount, all between the phone and the case. Somehow it all fits. Just the skin, and the qi would be no problem at all.
On top of all that, the new qi receiver I've got isn't black plastic. It's actually aluminum as well. So it should blend in better. Just never felt like swapping it around on the M7, so I'll save it for my M8.

I've used a few.. Here's my thoughts on them.
The Choe off amazon. Works ok. Has a blue light that flashes when charging. Which may be annoying to some, especially next to a bed.
http://www.amazon.com/UPGRADED-Wire...id=1396035442&sr=8-1&keywords=choe+qi+charger
I've also got the Nokia Fatboy.. the pillow case style, that just uses the standard nokia qi charger.
I DO NOT recommend this at all. It worked ok for a few weeks, then started just going on off, on off, on off repeatedly. No rhyme or reason. My Nexus 7 still charges fine it seems, but nothing else. It also uses a proprietary charger and cable, which is stupid.
http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-DT-901-...8&qid=1396035546&sr=8-2&keywords=nokia+fatboy
And then my favorite... The PowerBot
It's by far the smallest, the rubber ring works to keep the device in one place. It has a green led all the time, and blue while charging. but it's not bright and wouldn't be a distraction at all. It seems to charge the fastest, and it also has an audible beep, so you know you've placed the device in the correct spot, without even looking. Going forward, I'll be ordering even more of these. I currently have one at work on my desk, and I've put one in the fatboy pillow I had next to my bed. Many colors available, and for the price, seriously can't be beat.
http://www.amazon.com/Compatible-In...=UTF8&qid=1396035781&sr=8-2&keywords=powerbot
Then as a bonus.. I also have one of the powerbot battery backup qi chargers in gray. It's also very cool and was cheap as hell at 30 bucks. You can keep it plugged in, then take it with you for true wireless charging. Only a 7000 mah battery inside, but it does pretty well 1.5 to 2 full charges give or take. Has a battery gauge, and makes the same beep that the other powerbot chargers do. Also includes another usb port to charge regular devices.

Don't see why not.. And that one inparticular would probably have the rubber flap so you wouldn't even see the receiver at all. The distance through the case I would think would be fine. I've got an otterbox defender at home, I can try it later.

However this seems very intriguing. Any inconsistencies in charge rate? Is there a large "sweet spot"? I've noticed that many cheap qi chargers/tags have a tiny charging spot.

I don't have that receiver l linked, it's disappeared. I just linked the most prominent one currently on amazon, as long as it's a type B.
Had issues with the Nokia charger but the powerbot has been flawless.
Wow, this looks like the answer to all my prayers! I'm coming from the G2 and always loved the wireless charging. I have tylt Wireless charger on my desk at work and it is the best thing ever. I've been looking for a handy desktop dock but they're all crappy little ones that I doubt will support the weight. Is this thing a sticker or can it be put on and removed? I like the look of the phone clean and usually stick with clear cases.

On the m7 the NFC was the plastic ring around the camera. And this sits in the center of the phone so it's never been an issue. NFC works just fine.
For joe above this, the ones I've used don't have any adhesive on them. So they could be swapped around no problem.

Air dock 2.0

Does anyone have one of these and if so has anyone used with their S6 edge? I just ordered one with the CD mount and think it would be an awesome car dock for the S6 edge. If you haven't heard of it, it is a car dock with qi wireless charging and built in micro magnetic technology of some sort that holds the phone in place. Very slick and minimal for the most part.
I'm not brave enough to use it for my device, but if there was ever a surface that it should be ideal for holding it's the S6's. Let us know how well it works with yours.
Sounds nice but the way I drive there's no way it could work.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am interested in how you get on - I am thinking of ordering one myself but reviews of the 2.0 version are few and far between.
It's not micro magnets btw - the magnet part is a normal magnet in the mount and they include a magnetic sticker you put on the back of your phone. Without the sticker the magnets do nothing, but I think this is only needed for phones with a rough rear texture (or phones with covers on - I presume it would work with the sticker on the inside of the cover instead).
For phones with a flat smooth back, it works with the "micro suction foam" which looks similar to the clingo sticky surface. I am hoping with the Edge this will be sufficient.
Though I haven't decided if I will be using the phone with a case or not yet, and the case I have ordered to use for now is transparent - so there is no chance I am putting the sticker on in that case. It seems like a shame to use a case where I can't see the glass back (or indeed, it seems a shame to use a case at all!). First world problems...

So I ordered this during their Indiegogo campaign earlier this winter and received mine last month. When I tried using it with the S5 I was greatly disappointed. It would not stick with the spigen case I had, so I had to carry that phone without a case and it still wouldn't stay on the dock. It just kept on falling off with the slightest bump in the road. I guess I could have tried the magnetic sticker they send you but I knew that I wasn't going to have the S5 for much longer.....
Well the S6 edge has a perfectly flat back, so it sits on the airdock 2.0 perfectly. I haven't taken it on an off road trip but with normal city road bumps it hasn't fallen off once. The wireless charging function is now much faster, so in my opinion, this dock is a must have if you are looking for an elegant solution for charging/ and holding your S6 in your car, especially if you like to look at your phone (or have others look at your phone screen GPS, etc...)
Just make sure you order the correct suction cup and base for it. I had a bamboo flat internal surface and the long flexible mount for smooth surfaces didn't work. Good thing I ordered the standard mount for textured surfaces as well.
The NFC function in the airdock 2.0 is interesting and using tagwriter you can easily program it. I programmed it to launch tunein to stream internet radio on car... However, the nfc chip just keeps beeping, and it keeps trying to launch the app. So I turned it off and don't use it. Haven't tried another app to see if I have better luck. Will have to troubleshoot this sometime..
Strongly recommend this despite the NFC trouble.
Thanks for the great review. I finally got hands on with the s6 edge today at my best buy and the back does seem like it should work great with the air dock. I also ordered a bunch of sleek cases and hope (I always buy cases but never keep them on) the cases will work with the dock. I got the CD mount as with my car it's the only great spot available seeing how i hate windshield and dash mount. My dock just shipped and I'm like a kid in the candy store checking shipment status every hour.

Correct. I get so excited when a new phone launches so I just buy accessories to fill the void but then leave them behind because I like my phone like my wife...naked!
$85? I have made my own Qi charging car solutions for 2 years now using ProClip and a TechMount Qi charger. Total price for both is well under $85, and works for all phones, even those without magnets strong enough. e.g., my Nexus 5 (strong magnet), NExus 6, Note 4 and now the S6E.
I'd try the airdock, but $85 is a little silly.

That's nice and all, but how well does your phone stay charged when you use GPS and stream music using data? I reviewed a Qi car dock once that wouldn't charge up my S4 with just the screen staying on, let along actually using the device for battery intensive activities. What are your experiences with the S6E charging on this dock with anything more than keeping the screen off?

Depends on the phone. Depends on the screen really. I always have google maps going for traffic, and an mp3 player. The Nexus 5 would always hold a steady charge. The Nexus 6 would drain. Note 4 would drain, but slower than the Nexus 6. The S6E is stable.
I have automateit automatically dim my screen and turn off wifi when it senses a BT connection to my cars. I can't speak to your S4 or other "battery intensive activities" but I've had this setup in multiple cars with multiple phones for 50k+ miles. I stopped using the built in navigation in any of my cars since I now exclusively use google maps, it's always qi docked.

Yeah I couldn't live with "stable," with as much as I drive and use the phone in the car, I can't have a phone with 15% battery stay where it's at. I currently use a wired setup with a powerful 4.2A dual USB charger and watch the numbers climb with the phone doing navigation, talking on it / streaming music, and other activities that would normally chew through a battery being wirelessly charged - but that you had good luck with it, is good and maybe I'm the only one who can't get it to work! :good:

nah, it's not just you man. It's these big phablets and how much juice their screens take up. The Nexus 6 was outrageous. Yet another reason the phablets were not for me. I liked the Note 4 way better than the Nexus 6, but neither of them did anything for me.
I have the original Air Dock, not the 2.0. (Actually, I have the Galaxy S4 version. Just magnets in different places, I think.) I have a Spigen Slim Armor case with kickstand. It all works great! Amazingly, the Air Dock holds the phone in the case very well. Charges through it just fine. I think the Spigen case might actually have a coil inside it to transfer the charge from a Qi charger through to the phone.
Playing music, screen on, navigating... still net positive charging.
The only thing that doesn't really work well is the magnet sticker from Air Dock. I put it in between the two parts of the case, but it still doesn't really attract it into position when I put it need the Air Dock. Not that big a deal.
Well got my air dock 2.0 and love it!!! Works great with my sleek Rinkge fusion case on it and sticks perfectly. Best car dock I've ever used and seen

I think so. It's personal preference, but I used to have a car dock/holder that had adjustable sides and I hated it. I love the way the Air Dock holds the device in place.
