Sprint Spark to be released on Nov 8th! - Sprint HTC One (M7)

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/30/sprint-spark-enhanced-lte/
Does anyone know if our phone will support this updated network?

Just kinda wish they would put their focus into getting LTE into all markets first....there are a lot of people that have been patiently waiting to use LTE on their LTE devices that pay a pretty penny for!

Our phone isn't compatible

I think at this point Sprint can kiss my ass. Total BS that their focus isn't on LTE.

This is part of the lte focus. You can't get 60mbps over 3g.

Spark is just a fancy name for the triband network(1900,800,2500). Its the second phase of network vision. The One only supports 1900. Sprint is movin g in a great direction with this. Using 3 bands in tandem will give crazy speeds.

exactly...this is all part of network vision....they just added a name to it....with all the growing pains they're going through right now, it will be awesome once they're done.

I read somewhere that there MAY be a firmware update to enable this for us....is that true? I assumed that if the One Maxx is running the same hardware then the radios should be the same too

Not true. Our phone doesn't support Lte on 800 or 2600 so no spark on this phone.

I love new technology & spark looks pretty cool, but all I see them talk about is data.....what about voice? Will the tri-band phones improve w/ voice usage? I don't use voice all that much, but when I do it usually sux @ss.

[Q] When 4g comes out for Captivate will we have to get new phones?

Can we just flash the LTE Modem or will we have to get new phones?
our phones do not have the required hardware to go 4g. i could be wrong but i doubt it. but who cares, by the time at&t actually gets a real 4g, we should all be ready to upgrade.
LTE and HSPA are different. As long as HSPA is pushed then we can go to the max of the phones hardware.

Was your old EDGE speed phone capable of getting 3G speeds? X-(

Miami if you're not going to be helpful in Q/A then why post?
For 3G/4G you need to talk tech not blanket terms it would be easier to know what exactly you are asking.
HSPA+ LTE are the competeing tech one being a new tech (LTE) and one being an advancement of current tech (HSPA+).
Captivates can do um 7M using HSPA (double check gsm arena or the wiki or the manual for the numbers) so any upgrade to the network the device will top out at the max speed the device can support.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Max speeds for HSPA are theoretical. TMO said they would push it up to and over the 50M level while currently upgrades to networks have it at 14-21M though because of the way it works you will not get those speeds real world.

Thrill ICS 4G ???

We now have 4G lte service in my area. Well at least on my wife's Samsung Galaxy III. After updating my Thrill to ICS I now have a 4G symbol but I definitely do not have 4G performance. Are these phones capable of true 4G LTE or is it only AT&T HSPA+?
I'm rooted so I can make some manual tweaks if necessary. I noticed a throttle value in the settings.db. What should that value be for the best performance?
Thanks
Reading an old review of the phone on a site,it said the thrill 4g was not a true lte phone. Not sure if it's the hardware or the software. Good luck! What are you getting from speed test app?
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
Yeah.. I did some digging and it's not a LTE capable phone. I was hoping it was software based. AT&T official response was. It's a 4G phone that's not capable of 4G speeds. ??? Figure that one out..
My speed:
4 down and almost 1 up. Latency and jitter are 218 and 70ms. This seems to have gotten worse since the tower went to 4G.
My wifes phone:
18 down and 10 up. I expect this to get throttled at some point. Seems too good to be true. Her latency and jitter on the other hand is 70 and 12ms. Thought this should be better.

the weather icon is the the Wunderground app. i use it because it uses several weather station around my rural area to give me temps rather then interpolate from the bigger cities.
Look up the specs online for lg thrill. It only has an hspa+ radio in it. Think 24+ no LTE.

I hit this on XBSAVR3D based on Rogers V30C. Using the V30C baseband I hit almost 9mb down and almost 2mb up! That being said we can't get 4G, and that pretty lil 4G icon they put on our V30B update looks cool but its just eye candy full of lies. CDMA does not allow for simultaneous voice and data. The GS3 and the Evo 4G LTE and a few others were able to do so only because Qualcomm made something special for them... But for the 600 it does not work sadly. 4G + voice works though. You'll get 4G soon enough :\

The S3 and EVO 4G LTE used the Qualcomm MSM8960 which allowed simultaneous Data and Talk via SVDO. This was as mentioned unique to the MSM8960 SoC and is no longer integrated into any Qualcomm SoC and therefore is not available and will not be available on Sprint phones going forward. This has been discussed elsewhere.
You can talk when connected to 4G and Wifi.

Sprint has said there will not be anymore SVDO phones. I think the idea is LTE for Data and CDMA for voice. Maybe eventually Voice over LTE?

Verizon 4g lte on Sprint!?

I know this doesn't sound possible hell I Dont believe it myself but I am in LittleRock Arkansas where Sprint has NO 4g, I'm up here at work bored so I flash the 1000 Verizon prl, I unlock my SIM card (don't think that mattered , I didn't put a SIM card in). I forced roaming on my phone and I about had a heart attack when the 4g showed in my notification bar!! I thought it may be wrong but I ran some speed test with and without it. Highly doubt it... Verizon is operating LTE on 700 mhz (the latest article I saw was that in 2015 they will plan to shift some EVDO to LTE on 1900). The Sprint HTC One only supports LTE on 1900.
Just because Sprint hasn't officially announced LTE in that area doesn't mean they haven't been doing the update. They have a ton of location that have spotty (and even complete) LTE coverage that aren't even officially on the LTE list.
The n.ispsn is something new also.

Force roaming causing 4G detection isn't anything new, actually. If you put the device into LTE mode only, it achieves something similar. The device would much rather stay on Sprint service if at all possible and will take a weak LTE signal if it can (even if it would normally prefer a nearby Sprint tower providing 3G coverage).
The speeds you've posted are in-line with a Sprint 4G test/slow rollout and would frankly be rather laughable on Verizon's 4G network-- if we get around the obvious hurtle that it is not physically possible for your phone to pick up Verizon's LTE, full stop.
Eliminate what's impossible (by hardware) and we have a series of at least possible alternatives.

Sprint 4G on initial release in an area or an a tower is very wonky. It's off and on, slow and only works at a short range. Just be patient and you will get it really soon. They just activated it in a couple areas where I live also. They tend to put them near Sprint Corp stores.

Why is it unbelievable that Sprint is bringing 4g to Arkansas... They HAVE TO do the NV update on every single tower that broadcasts Sprint Signal. It is cheap as dirt to just add the LTE hardware into the NV station once the NV upgrade is completed. This is a nation wide requirement since they are about to do some wonky ass things on the 1900 MHz PCS bands (when they start to reallocate their allowed bandwidth to different techs, it is an across the board FCC license).
I'm from Arkansas too and have been keeping up with the 4G there because that's where I travel to every chance I get. Jonesboro has sprint lte and it's been planned for little rock and Fayetteville to get it for months. It was only a matter of which day. I'm surprised it took them this long. But it was expected. I'm so happy to hear this wonderful news

Then you're lucky, because there are still TONS of places that don't have LTE, including major cities. I was in Denver a few weeks ago and still had to make do with 3G just like I do at home. Also, 40-60 mbs is unheard of, even on Verizon and AT&T. My home wifi isn't even that fast. If that figure is even remotely accurate, you're definitely a (very) rare exception rather than the rule.

Idk OP, my service and bandwidth on Sprint's LTE is pretty solid, speaking as a recent convert from Verizon.
Ohh, I remember the good ol' days before Verizon lost their way. I was a Verizon customer during the release of the OG Motorola Droid, and that phone was like a development catalyst. I discovered xda thanks to that phone's development following. Everything I came to love about customizing kernels and roms came from that phone. ****, I remember what now seems like an ancient version of CyanogenMod for that OG Droid. I remember that phone out of the box was underclocked of all things, from 550Mhz down to 450 which made overclocking that thing to a meaty 1ish Ghz seem so beastly at the time lol!
Ahhhh good times :good:
Decent Sprint LTE speeds in College Park, MD
I get decent speeds (15-23 Mb down, 7-10 Mb up) on Sprint in College Park MD according to Speedtest.
Won't the speeds for the Sprint LTE towers drop for an individual once more people start utilizing it? I suspect some people are getting very high speeds because not a lot of Sprint users are tapping into the LTE bandwidth yet?

Close - it was a 600 mhz CPU underclocked to 550 mhz. I remember there were kernels that could overclock the thing all the way to 1.3 ghz. I've still never used another phone that could be overclocked that far past the native clock speed (by percentage, at least). Good times.
