[Q] Unroot and Reset without Screen? Pls help - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi,
ma phone ist broken: the whole screen is just white and has stripes of dead pixels across it:crying:
I would like to reset the whole phone to factory settings, as well as remove all apps and the root access, so I can send it back to LG an try to claim warranty.
I have not found anything on how to unroot the phone.
I can propably reset via the Boot menu (pressing down power button and volume down when booting). But then i still need to know how many times i have to press the down button to select reset, since i can not see anything on the screen.
Any suggestion on how to unroot?
My Phone does have the original LG Rom, however it is rooted an i removed some of the original Apps.
Will they come back to the phone when i do a factory reset?
Or will I have to flash the whole phone again with some stock Rom in these forums?
If i do flash, will these also remove root?
Thanks for any answeres!

No i have the problem, that i am not able to see where to change the connection type when plugged in to the pc.
could you send me a creen shot of the screen, where you choose the connection-type?
I know i can get there by tapping on the notification bar when it is plugged in.
Or do you have an better idea how to resolve this?
Edit:
I have managed to change the connection settings by just tapping on the blind screen.
The LG Support Tool, which I got from the LG Website, tells me that my device is on the newest software, therefore I can not do an upgrade.
How do I solve this.
Secondly, on behalf of the first answere: How do I know if I unlocked the bootloader? I installed CWM, does that mean the bootloader is unlocked?
Thirdly, assume I somehow get to reset the phone and change everything back to factory settings and Apps, how do I know it worked without looking at the screen?
Man this thing is really tricky.

You can force an upgrade using the LGmobile Support Tool. This can be found under options>update recovery in the upper right corner. I suggest you put your phone into s/w update mode before doing this though. To do this, hold the VOLUME DOWN button while plugging in the USB cable and keep holding it until you 'see' the s/w screen (not sure if this is an option for you, haha. Just make sure you hold the V- button for a bunch of seconds). As always, make sure you have all the drivers.

Usually the answer is if you don't know if you onlocked it, you didn't unlock it. But you need to have an unlocked bootloader in order to get CWM, so I guess you do have it unlocked. You can check in the secret menu. I believe the bootloader status is also shown in the upper left corner while in s/w update mode. But since your screen is dead, it's kinda hard to check.

Not sure if that's possible for you.. Perhaps someone else knows a solution for that..

Flashing the kdz will automatically format your system and data partitions
In case you aren't sure from adb shell you can run format system and format data commands or you can use fastboot erase <partition>
Always from adb you can enter the shell and use ls command to list contents of the phon and check if it was wiped

[HELP] Power/End, Call, Menu, Home and Back Buttons not Working on G1

So, this didn't happen until the other day, but suddenly, my Power/End, Call, Menu, Home and Back buttons aren't working on my G1. The only way I could get the phone to power up was to plug it into a USB, and then place the battery in to force a boot. I can't reset anything, leave screens, accept calls, or do anything really because of this issue, and it's debilitating.
Before you tell me to search, I'll tell you that I've already searched multiple times. I know the rules of the forums, and I wouldn't have created a new thread if the issue had already been solved by a previous thread. However, if I missed a thread that could help, rather than saying "SEARCH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE", I'd appreciate a link.
Thanks, guys. XDA has always been useful to me, and I really just want a solution, since the G1 has been the best phone I've ever had.
If it matters, I'm using Cyanogen 4.1.11.1, with the 2.6.29.6-cm41 kernel. I'd upgrade, but I can't, since my home button isn't working.
Try wiping, enter terminal or use adb shell "reboot recovery" to enter the reboot screen. Once you have wiped or reflashed, use "reboot"
I can't wipe or flash, because I need the home button.
I know, to enter recovery without using the home button user adb shell reboot recovery
Yes, but how do I wipe from there? When I select wipe, it asks me to press the home button.
Oh my you really seem to have dug yourself into a hole here... not good. Hmm. Try wiping from the Settings on your phone, there is a factory reset on there.
"No reset was performed because the System Clear service was not available."
Is there a way to wipe from the console, or adb shell?

Now thats a right proper one mate..anyway how do you tuen her on if the button doesnt work?
You can use fastboot to clear your data partition (userdata). But this doesn't sound like a software issue if the buttons aren't even working within recovery/bootloader, it sounds more like a hardware issue. I would take it up with T-Mobile or HTC.
I was able to turn it on by plugging in the battery while it was plugged in via USB, but now that doesn't even work. I have a feeling that I just wiped the entire system, as I can only access the fastboot, and when I try to boot normally, I just get stuck at the white G1 screen. So it seems I have two issues now. Any solutions for either? Unfortunately, my G1 is 5 days out of warranty, too.
If you can access fastboot, then you can flash RC29 and start from the beginning again or you can flash a nandroid backup that you can get from your sdcard to your PC.
Any idea how to flash a nandroid backup or downgrade to RC29 if I don't have working power, home, menu, or call buttons? Like, is there a guide?
Nobody has any solution that doesn't require me to get a replacement phone? I'm willing to pay for a solution. I'm in dire need of this phone. I hate the Blackberry Curve so much.

I think your phone is pretty shot. Even if you do manage to get into a ROM, it seems unlikely that your buttons will come back to life. Without being able to use the home or back buttons, you'll be stuck in whatever application you opened until you restart your phone.
If you want to try it out, you can flash an old nandroid backup by first, copying system.img, data.img, and boot.img from the nandroid folder and pasting it in the same folder as your fastboot. Then, boot into the bootloader and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot reboot
which will restore the nandroid backup.
SOLUTION
I found a fix for this problem on another Android forum, essentially you install "Anycut" from the markey and create a shortcut to the "setup wizard", I had a three setup wizards, the third one worked for me and ran all the way through the phone setup, the others just exited as soon as I selected SKIP. It works, prior to that my HOME, MENU and CALL buttons were not working. I think that a faulty update.zip must have caused permission issues with the software, I had installed some new fonts and straight after I lost the buttons!

[Help]Milestone keeps repeating android boot!

So right now, my phone keeps on getting stuck at the 'android' word bootscreen. It keeps repeating and seems to go on forever! Someone please help me! I heard its due to rooting! Can anyone confirm this?
What did you do? I tried once to install aps 2 card and the phone stood in android screen about 20 min
Anyway if it doesn't start. Flash new android: nand restore or sbf
.
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
Finally somebody replied back. Its been going on for days, I've removed the battery, placed it back, same thing.
Also, sorry but I have no idea how to flash something. How do I do it? And it doesn't even go past it.
I should spend on time in this sub-forum.
If you have flash a custom ROM then just reflash it or try another ROM.
It's highly, highly unlikely that your phone it breaked so don't worry about.
I have never flashed a custom rom. I don't even know how to flash in the first place.
turn off hp.try to hold up-dpad(towards screen) button and switch on your milestone.
then you see black screen written Bootloader.
battery OK.
OK to program
connect USB
data cable.
if you can go into this screen, then u can start to learn to flash vulnerable recovery.
and ready to install custom room.
google around on how to instal vulnerable recovery for milestone .

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932196
shut down phone ->hold down hard keyboard x key and power button->when M logo appears release power button but keep pressing x key until recovery mode shows up
there is an option for clearing data/factory reset
you'll loose everything but it propably fix the problem

[Q] HELP! Phone won't turn on after installing Aroma

Hey guys,
Today I decided to flash TrickDroid 10.0.0. Everything went well, installed it and at the end of flashing appeared a blue screen saying "Please wait". Waited for about 8-10 minutes, than just clicked once a power button. It asked me do I really wanna quit Aroma installation, pressed No. Then something "magical" happened and it was saying that installation is finished, click to reboot. So I did. After this step my phone won't turn on in any ways, tried to connect to pc - still no signs, it even won't charging..
How can I bring it to life!? Or this is it?

Hold Power and Volume down until it goes into the bootloader, from there go into recovery and try re-flashing.

Tried this many times but still nothing happens. I think it's totally bricked
Put it under a light, a very strong light and longpress the power button, try this
Are you S-On or S-Off? If you're S-On it isn't possible for you to totally brick the phone as far as I'm aware ... Especially not from flashing a ROM.

I'm S-On. I was searching for a solution later today and I found JTAG Riff box (actually, the service which brings the phones back to life by using this tool). However they can't help me at all, cause my phone isn't listed in that repairable list (not sure why). And the other thing they said was that I need to change the mainboard, because there're no other ways how to fix this problem. And it's a job for htc, not for them.

if your phone is booting to recovery you can still fix it without replacing mainboard just download cyanogenmod once and try flashing it after wiping everything and see if phone boots up. if it does you can use another custom sense 5rom and if it doesnt htc is the way to go
You're not bricked at all, calm down. Aroma crashes all the time and you just didn't finish the rom installation. Go back into recovery, wipe everything and flash it again. To turn the phone off, plug it into your PC and type 'adb reboot' and then hold down power and volume down as it is rebooting.

Possible brick after build.prop edit. Verizon LG G2

Hello,
I've been rooted for a few months now and have never had any problems. I wanted to use that Milk Music app from Samsung so I followed the instructions and was able to get it working on my phone and have been for awhile. I recently decided it would be a good idea to change the build.prop file back to its original state, so I copied and pasted it in using Root Browser. (I had made a backup file stored elsewhere). Once I did that I rebooted my phone for the changes to take effect. After I did that I cannot get my phone to turn back on. It displays the LG animated logo screen and then goes completely black. The light on top of the phone radiates blue/green. I've read through several forums about this issue and have tried everything in order to get it to work and for some reason, using my computer and ADB always gives me an error: device not found. I have installed the drivers and everything. Anyone else run in to this problem before? I would really appreciate it.
If you are on stock rom, just rooted. I would think you should be able to factory reset through stock recovery.
Confirm the process but i think you power completely off. Then hold volume down and power at the same time when you see the lg logo release both buttons then press both buttons and hold them.
Should take you to factory reset.
Not 100% certain but this will probably be your next step if you can't get a computer to see it.
Good luck

The factory data reset didn't really change anything. For some reason I cannot boot into recovery mode either. I can put it in download mode though, but my computer still has a problem recognizing it.

If you can get into dl mode then you should be able to return it to stock which should reset everything. Returning to stock has its own downside but at least you'll be up and running again.

[Q] LG L90 D315 bricked without recovery access etc

So this is my first xda thread. I spent hours searching without finding a solution for my particular case.
I am using a LG L90 D415 (T-Mobile version) and I got bored of it and so I started playing with the system (not the first phone I'm doing that with, so I know a bit about that sutff). So I tried to install the new Android L home launcher from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796019
I did everything like explained, installed it and changed the build.prop like described. But after I rebooted my phone, expecting a new home launcher, the phone boots, I am at the lockscreen, but after like 4 seconds I receive multiple errors (like gapps stopped working) and than everything freezes and it reboots.
Unfortunaly I didn't install a recovery or unlocked fastboot. So I can access download mode, but that's it. My computer doesn't see my phone (because usb debugging deactivated?) and so I don't know what to do. I think that's a pretty tough case but I hope some smart person can help me
Thank you

No custom recovery and no fastboot? Factory reset is your only option. See this post. Scroll down to Q14. Even though it's titled something else, the same button presses apply for your device in it's current state, ie; no recovery, no fastboot

First thanks for the fast answer. So I figuered that I only need to delete the build.prop file and replace it with my backup file. Isn't there any way to rescue my files and/or access the /system folder? I'm an exchange student now and I don't wanna lose my picture memories
And btw I know that I build the perfect worst case scenario right now
Oh and in the L90 faq it says that when you flashed a recovery and you navigate to factory reset it won't reset but boot into recovery. Does something like this work even without recovery, so I could try doing stuff with adb?

If adb isn't detecting the phone, no. There isn't any other way.

Unfortunately, no.
Factory reset will not erase your sdcard. It will however erase internal data. It will return the phone to the state it was in the first time it was powered on.
