Get 'OK Google' working on non-US language - Without using en-US! * Requires Root - Nexus 5 General

Hey folks,
I thought you guys would be interested in this blog I came across:
TINYURLDOTCOM /l6xafk4
I just tried the instructions (although had to tweak them slightly as I'm using TWRP) and I now have OK Google detection while not giving up the phone's understanding of my native tongue! (I found US english struggled with my pronunciation).
I figure this is pretty safe as it's easy to rollback, just delete the en-GB folder after and I assume everything is back to normal. For TWRP you don't need so many of the commands, you can mount within TWRP, and reboot within TWRP. Although I recommend an NANDROID backup first!

(Sorry, it won't let me link properly as I'm a new user - it's not spam though honest! If some nice person could make these proper links I'd much appreciate it)
Thanks,
Brett

is this supposed to only b a screenshot?EDIT: sry didnt see the other link^^

Just tested this and it works a treat!

Is it just me or does OK GOOGLE not work at all on other launchers? I use Nova Prime and... nope. When I switch to default launcher, works fine.

The OK Google works fine on all launchers but on the homescreen it only works with the default Google GEL/Velvet launcher.

What does that mean... "works on all launchers" but on the homescreen etc...
contradictory?

Did it via Root Explorer, took about 10 seconds, and job done.

Your original post says "does OK GOOGLE not work at all on other launchers". The answer to that is yes it works on all launchers. I am using nova and if I open up the Google search app and say OK Google it activates voice search. However the feature where you can say OK Google on the homescreen because GEL is 'always listening' is not possible on other launchers.
Is that better?

Finally I can use "OK Google" and... it's totally unuseful! I have to be on homescreen to use it, at just 1 click on the mic icon. I thought I could use with display off, or at least at the lockscreen...

Brilliant! I now have English... err... English! Google Now is a revelation. It works! Thank you

Yeah it's not really useful at all, just a gimmick. Nice to have though, I guess.
I've also noticed this does more than just enable the hotword, I'm now getting updates for previous searches, which is a US only feature.

Wroks great with french from onmirom , Thank you

I've noticed that now I can't download offline language Spanish in Google Now options... can you?

Hm, that file is in preload folder. Maybe it restores by itself. That happend to me with Play store. I removed it, and after reboot there was it again Try to freez talkback with SD Maid, Titanium backup or any similiar app. I never used talkback, so I do not know to turn it off. Did you reboot after removing? I removed, and when I get in Accessibility options it asks me if I want to downlaod it from Play store.

[Q] Kit kat update broke Google now hotword detection on moto x

I updated my Moto X to kit kat yesterday and now my hotword detection doesn't work on the home screen or within Google now. I have the nexus 5 home launcher installed and fear it could be part of the issue, but it worked fine in jelly bean so I don't know why it wouldn't work here.
Anyone else having this issue?

I can safely say it's not the new home launcher. I've been running that for awhile now and both the motorola detection and the google detection work fine (i.e., I can say "okay google now" at any time, or say "okay google" when the device is already woken.)
I haven't done the kit kat upgrade though

It seems that Moto may have deactivated this on purpose to prevent it from interfering with the Touchless Control feature.
Same thing, it was working shortly after the update I believe.

seems unlikely. i can't seem to get mine to work either, even though Google Now settings say to listen for "Google".
Select the Auto-Update tab from the top and choose one of the auto-update options (we recommend leaving it on “over WiFi-only”). After that, scoot over to the All tab and find English (US). You’ll notice it already says “pre-installed”. Don’t listen to it. Select English (US) anyway. From there, jump to the Installed tab and press “English (US)” where you’ll be asked to download the latest version (version 28 at the time of writing). Hit “Download” and the updated version will be downloaded and installed.
After it’s finished downloading, press the home button where you’ll notice “Ok Google” will now be displayed inside the Google Search widget. Simply speak that phrase whenever you’re on your homescreen to perform a Google Search or voice actions. That’s it. Was relatively painless, ri

Something is definitely broken. The image I included shows Android 4.4 and Android 4.2.2 differences. 4.4 is missing the "Ok" and maybe that is why it doesn't work? It worked fine before and now doesn't. English is my set language and that doesn't fix the problem.
just my 2 cents.

Chrome Home Button

If anyone is interested in having a little home button in Chrome, it's pretty simple. I just copied the ChromeCustomizations.apk from the newest COS 12.1 build to the appropriate folder, set the correct permissions and it worked!
I know it's a trivial mod but thought I'd post it here in case anyone else wants it. I have only tested it on CM nightlies (more specifically Sultan's CM 12.1 CAF ROM). It should work on CM based ROMS but not sure about others.
You can either copy the apk file to system/app/ChromeCustomizations/ folder (you'll have to create the folder), or use the attached flashable zip.
Enjoy.

Yes, it worked for me with Chrome beta. Didn't try on Chrome. After installing as per the indtructions, reboot your phone to see it working.

Moto X Pure. Chrome beta. TruPureXMM.
I used the flashable file.
Edit
It takes me to a bing search. Why?
If someone needs to remove it. Hold down on the home button till a remove box pops up.
I confirme that works with appsettings 3.13 xposed module and tablet ui mode
Now i have three buttons
Home, back and forword
Great work

You know you can change the default home page in the chrome app settings, right? The default is bing because this mod is from cyanogen OS but you can change it to whatever you want. Like the screen shot from the OP where I have it set to BBC.com.

I don't have back/forward buttons. You should ask the person that posted those screenshots. Looks like a cool mod but it's probably due to the app settings xposed module which allows you to use the tablet UI. I personally don't use xposed any more.

This is great. I like it a lot. Ty.
I just found this. The lack of a home button was a major obstacle to my using Chrome as my default browser. Some versions of Chrome (e.g. T-Mobile) and some 3rd party browsers come with speed dials or home pages as a default, and Firefox has an add-on. This is just what I was looking for for Chrome. I set my home page to chrome-native://bookmarks/mobile-bookmarks, which brings up my bookmarks as my home page. Perfect. Thanks!
You're awesome!
I just wanted to thank you so much for this! I've been looking in all the wrong places to return the home button to my chrome! Honestly it's been driving me insane!
Sorry if I double post, I tried replying once already and it bugged out, so I'm not sure if it's delayed.
So, is there a way to add the Home button on a Droid Turbo 2 (Marshmallow) without Root?
Excellent! I've been searching for ages for this so to my great delight I finally found this page, thanks a lot man!
Freaking awesome!
I have been banging my head over this since I switched from stalk is to cm13 one my Oneplus One. Thank you thank you thank you.

'Ok Google' detection

Using CM 13 (28/04 build). One thing that is bugging me out for sometime, which is 'Ok google' detection from any screen is missing in Google Now settings.
On stock 6.0, Moto Voice serves as a back-end to Google Now search. So it kinda works from any screen and even if the screen is off.
So yeah, if anyone has any work around for it to act like 'always listening' , do tell. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.
No reply? ?

Tried the Stock Nexus Gapps. Sadly, no it didn't work out. I heard a lot of devices are missing 'ok google from anywhere' option in google now launcher settings ,including the famous Nexus 5X. Recently the update to google app broke it. I hope it works in the future though.
Some also say, Google disabled 'always on' feature to save up battery and people were accusing Google of spying on users through that function.
I gave up, may be I will return to Stock 6.0 (Moto Voice FTW! ?) , may be not. [emoji4]

Google is blocking this app. now.
All the search commands and queries go through a separate server which appears to me a lot shady, not to mention all those permissions one has to provide after installing the app.
Last but not the least it's a battery hog. It eats up battery like hell cause of triggering so many wake locks so many times.

yes that's the problem, google has disabled this maybe in the future updates it will be there again like it was and that's why i'm using open mic+ without any issues, you can set custom phrase like moto voice and also works on lockscreen or even if the screen is off and its really fast, but don't use open mic+ with google now launcher, it won't be accurate or it won't response that well, if you are rooted and have Google Now Launcher installed i suggest you to delete GNL and use nova launcher instead
here's the apk of open mic+ and use it with nova launcher and delete google now launcher

Anyone notice on their new pixel that the new assistant is not working? The assistant is Still the old one, which you'd need to keep squeezing or repeat the hey google phrase.
What language are you using? It didn't work for me when set to English (UK), but works when set to English(US). It seems it is limited to English(US) at the moment.
Also cannot be used with a GSuite account, has to be a personal Google account.

I got my phone yesterday (in the UK) and once I set it the assistant to us US English it installed an update and just works using the new assistant style, so it's not U.S. exclusive in that sense. Thankfully they've also added UK English voices for the assistant to use when talking back (when set to U.S.)

After giving up a few times, I notice that I was missing the google home app. After downloading the home app, in settings there were an option under continue conversation where you can enable or disable "shared devices". I disable that option and, What do you know, after squeezing the phone for the assistant, it automatically update itself to the new assistant. Hope this help others too.

I know Android is all about options and all and sucks that it's not an option for the button based navigation but why not use gestures? It's very fluid and quick.

Sorry to hijack the thread but is anyone else having issues with the squeeze for assistant feature? Mine seems very temperamental.
If I leave my phone locked for a bit, then lift it, it unlocks and the squeeze is not working. I then have to tap on the power button to lock it again, unlock and it starts working again.
