S5 From Iphone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Greetings all. Im here trying to help out a friend.
He and his gf have had iPhone's for quite some time. They just recently both upgraded to the S5. Ive never had an iPhone, currently on a Note 3 and on Verizon so I couldn't really help them hence I am here.
Anyway they're having some serious problems sending and receiving group messages. Specifically from their S5 to other iPhone's. They either don't even get responses or get responses individually as apposed to in the group thread. On top of that they're constantly being prompted to download messages as if they were mms. I've also sent him a picture and they only get any error message stating it could not be downloaded. They're both completely stock, phones are 2 days old.
Any help would be appreciated. Just checking here in case anyone else is seeing or have heard of these issues. Thanks again.

From what I understand, it is because of their prev iphones (if that makes sense). With the Iphones, msgs were being sent through there servers first, then out again. I have a bud on my hockey team, that he recently had an iphone and switch the S5, and had the same problem. I cant recall what he has done since then to fix the issue. You may get a better answer on her before I could ask him to see what he has done.

If they did not changethey numbers, they have to unregister they iPhones from iTunes account. They messages trying to send and receive thru iMessage that why they have problems.
Swiping from dark side of Galaxy S5.

agreed, part of the problem is a known issue with the iMessage service not "letting go" of numbers that are no-longer iPhones, sounds like deregistration via iTunes may help.
I had previously disabled use of iMessage completely on my account before I left the iPhone behind so I didn't have the problem (unreliable data service in my area for my iPhone so actual SMS was better, waaaay better).
I've also seen issues sending MMS to friends from my S5 ... and my wife, who has an HTC One M7 ... and the upshot was that the pictures I was sending were too big for the target handset to be able to get. I had to reduce the size of the image I was sending to make it go through w/o issue.
If most of a person's pictures are shared online I'd advocate setting the default camera resolution appropriately, instead of the default full-megapixel-glory, in order to have the least issues.

Yeah just call Apple customer support and have them deauthorize your Apple ID from iMessage. I had to do the same thing before. Had an M8, went back to iPhone 5S, then, I knew I was swapping for an S5 in like a day, so the day before turned off iMessage in settings, and then called Apple to deactivate. Since they've already switched, once they deactivate it'll take about 8-12 hrs(they'll tell you 24-48, but it never takes that long) and stuff will start flowing again

Found a galaxy s?

Hey guys. I come in peace from the land of the optimus v. My friend who works at a movie theatre found what looks like a galaxy s in the parking lot. He has a captivate on at&t, and the galaxy s is on the Verizon network, so he is giving it to me. Obviously I can't use it on my carrier (virgin mobile) but I was wondering if I could tether the galaxy s to my optimus v, and then use that wifi as a means to send messages and place calls. I know it sounds kind of far fetched but is it possible? Before you get into the legality of the situation, the galaxy has been kept in the lost and found for 28 days now, company policy is that anything lost for 30 days can be given to employees. Also, if I only use wifi, Verizon can't track where the phone is, can they? I'd appreciate an answer, love this community.

Well, speaking of the legality of the situation.
Concerning the device, I think it's legal to keep it. However, concerning the SIM card, it's another story, and it may well be illegal.
Verizon can track the phone ONLY if you connect it to a 2G/3G network, it's the only way they could detect your ESSID. The risk is that they could block it from connecting to cell networks, if the previous owner has declared this ESSID as stolen to Verizon. The probability of this is very low, because virtually no one makes the effort of writing down their ESSID, and those who do don't even bother to report it...
About your wi-fi tethering question. I would understand if you'd like to use it as a wi-fi only internet device, but I'm wondering why you would want to send messages and place calls by using this phone... You could do it on your phone, couldn't you?
Now, about the ethics of it.
You must be aware that by keeping it, you willfully deprive the previous owner from his device, data, SMSes, photos, etc...
You could bring it back to a Verizon shop, or check the cell phone number that should be printed on the SIM card (at least, in France, it's the case) and make a call to it.
I'm not gonna lecture you on that, or tell you what you should do. It's your call (pun not intended)

I meant "IMEI" and not "ESSID", obviously.
some people are so careless, and care free. I would be in a blind state of panic if i lost my £400 galaxy s, I would re trace my steps and search for it. Then i would cry for help from my carrier to locate it (if mylookout struggled to locate it)
Some people lose phones and think "arr what the hell, i'll just get a new one"
People like that dont deserve such nice expensive phones.
True that some people don't care, but most people don't even know about IMEI blocking and anti-theft apps... I thinks it's a little easy to conclude that as they don't care, we deserve it more than them, and we're entitled to keep it.
That said, I clearly won't pity those clueless people who don't change their '1234' default PIN, don't password-protect their devices, or won't move their ass to try to get back their (pricey) phone. Especially if they could have gone to the lost&found office - they've had their chance. During a month.
As I've said, I was not lecturing anyone, if you find something it becomes yours after some delay, anyway. I was just saying that the cell phone could have been returned to its owner with really little effort. That's just one's choice, and I won't criticize him if he keeps it.
In all fairness, I'd hand it back bud, you'd expect someone to do the same and being a good Samaritan could earn you kudos and tbh the galaxy s is roughly just over a year old, you can pick one up brand new for 150 nicker

[Q] Exchange Email Sync!!!

Just got the Bionic. I have the Thunderbolt in my had the past few months and was excited about giving the Bionic a try. Went to set up my Corp Exchange ...worked fine ...went to set sync all dates ...and WTF!!! 30 days .. what a joke. Anyone know a work around to sync all dates. Not in high school! Otherwise the phone goes back.
Doesn't seem to be, I don't see why it's a big deal...you can continue searches on the server if you need to find something. It just doesn't actively sync more than 30 days to conserve power when connecting to pull data.
Case in point ..I've been working on a divestiture deal since Feb 11. I have around 300 emails that should show up in my in box from various companies, as is my desk top. When I'm on the speaker phone browsing my inbox, why should I have to search a "smart phone" to see our email communications. Blackberry and Iphones have no problems. Some should find the number "30" days and change it to "999". Then I would keep phone and root
Btw, search server did work ..thanks for the tip ..someone please figure out where to change that 30 to 999!

Just a suggestion (not a solution), but purchase Touchdown for Android. It is well worth the $$ if you require a very robust Exchange experience. When I bought the Droid X (when it first came out), I purchased Touchdown and have not looked back... so many features, filters, searches, and other options!

Um... fix this for me now or I'm sending the phone back?
Android is a self-service station my friend. It may take a bit more effort, but you'll get that evergreen glow of accomplishment.
I have to agree with the OP. The limitation is a bit too "big brotherish" for my tastes, and it assumes way too much. For example, does it occur to Motorola that some people sit on planes for 4-6 hours at a time, and might find that answering email messages (even old ones) is a great way to utilize that time?
If they're using battery savings as the rationale behind this, there are likely many other things (like their bloatware...or BLUR) that they can tweak to provide savings that do not make ridiculous assumptions.
Yes, there are other Exchange solutions available. But if one buys a handset with the knowledge that there is a solution, having to spend more on software is silly.
Joel
I agree ..thank you. Is there anyone who can write a script to change the number 30 to 500 or 700, assuming I root the phone. I would donate if so. Phones I have that SYN ALL! : Droid Charge, HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Gallaxy s2, Iphone, Infuse, EVO 3D GSM and I'm sure the list goes on. The DroidX2 does the same as the Bionic. Any programers willing to jump on this?

To be honest, if you want a phone that excels doing Exchange email/calendar items, go with a RIM phone. If you want a phone that has an extra long batter life, go with the iPhone. If you want a phone that is very customizable, a king of nothing, but prince of many things, then go with an Android.
I purchased Touchdown over 2 years ago when I switched from a Blackberry to an Android to help ease my way. I have seen a return on my investment as my phone now outperforms my co-worker's Windows and Blackberry phones when it comes to corporate email.
Would it be nice for an Android to have a good Exchange software? Yes. I have NEVER bought a phone expecting it though.
Use Enhanced Email. Fast light and full if options for exchange (including removing pin mandate). Multiple email account support

I would consider getting a software app to do a ONE TIME sync from outlook to Android (that will get all your old email yadda yadda)

Had anyone received a Text Message from 60140?

I am not sure if this post belongs here, mods please feel free to move to appropriate section if not.
I recently noticed my phone bill in the last 2 months were much higher than normal. I went through my bills online and checked my call history, I found out there were messages sent by me, and some messages sent to me from 60140 and they cost £1.50 for each message! Now, I am very certain that I did not send any message to that number. I checked my phone's messaging history and there were 3 text messages I received 4 days ago, but my online bill also reported I sent 1 before I received the 3 messages. These messages are nothing but simple tips for android power users, which are pure rubbish (screen shot attached).
I was also able to trace the dates when I got these messages, the first was the day when I flashed Darky's Rom, and the other was when I flashed CheckRom v6 4 days ago. I had flashed a lot of custom roms in the last 3 months and it's only in the last 2 roms that I had this issue. I've sent a "Stop" message to 60140 and got a reply that says I am now unsubscribed.
I am suspecting it was an app that caused this. I wonder if there's anyone who can shed light to this. I was thinking of wiping my phone and reformatting the internal storage but so hesitant as it is running perfect at the moment on Checkrom V6. Would really appreciate any help
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
That is very very unusual !!. I also flashed many different type of custom rom but never experience one ....
Just Say No!
It's a scammer SMS spammer. They send you premium SMS's and get paid for it. This is a serious issue, and has even gone as high as parliament in Oz.
DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!
I called my provider (Three, I think), and demanded a refund of all charges. They refused, saying it was not their fault.
I countered, and kept on at them. I kept mentioning that this provider was acting fraudulently, and by charging me, the provider were complicit in that fraud. I also stated several times that I had taken legal advice (I had not) and would be happy to see them in court. I would have too. I knew they pay up instead of going as it's cheaper.
[edit] BTW, it is nothing to do with the ROM, that is just a coincidence or we'd all be finding this a problem.
It was only about $30, but I stood my ground on principle. Only when the providers stop participating in this theft can it really be stopped.
Oh, and I had all my phone records, so could prove that I had never sent them an SMS to initiate their service. If you do not have these, just claim you have (on your phone, even) and force them to prove otherwise.
I had this on att and when u reply stop is when u get billed. Had like 3 10 dollar charges but att refunded right away

Thanks for your replies, I know now that I can, at least, call my provider (Orange UK) about it. I have paid £12.00 before I realized the scam.
It's a relief to know also that it was not custom ROM related.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
these charges are coming from a company called com & tell uk ltd.
they are charging £1.50 per text to anyone that has downloaded an power saving app for there android mobile. its a crafty little scam that keeps the subscription part quiet. simple text STOP to 60140 an you will get a confirmation text. an problem solved.
ive had a potter round on the internet an there isnt many old posts relating to this only recent ones march onwards

Used to love this phone

But after updating to 2.3 it has really screwed my phone up. I used the lg updater and did everything the legit way, the night they released it. Now my phone doesn't keep time, I'm lucky if my phone rings once out of every ten phone calls, and I don't get text messages until I turn my phone on and unlock the screen. I don't even get missed call alerts, just a voicemail alert some hours later. I rooted my phone back when I was on 2.2 using super one click I think. Could this be what is messing it up?
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
Not the root causing problem it is ghost calls and I have heard many developers say it is 2.3.5 issue and have heard LG will come out with a fix for it soon but knowing LG I wouldn't hold your breathe

I know I don't get the text message icon half the time on the notification bar.
Yes the update is to blame. I decided to drop the thrill and move on. Grabbed a htc vividly official ice update and it works great. The face recognition is nice..wont use my thrill as a phone any longer..
I am using Thrill Seeker 2.0, and I am not having any of these problems. I had to mess around with some things to free up resources since I have using the SPB Shell 3D Launcher, but after using the AutoKiller I'm all good.
Ghost calls are indeed a part of V20p (and all gingerbread updates for this phone as far as I can tell). Nothing to do with root. There's no way to know its happening unless the person who tried to call you chews your ear off later on about not answering your phone or calling back (my wife). Or when you recieve the voicemail to the call you never got.
Now if only the ghost calls would limit themselves to telemarketers...sigh
Seriously though, if the person calling doesn't make it known they tried to call you then you'll likely never know it even happened. This is something they need to fix ASAP and I would suggest flooding their emails and forums demanding a fix. I know I am.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
No ghost calls on Thrill Seeker 2.0 on my V20P thrill.
Did you verify APNs and try a factory reset? Whats your signal db look like?
I can confirm that while I have not experienced any ghost calls my phone's clock was 20 minutes behind today when I was in class. Thank goodness I didn't rely on that time when going to school today.
I called at&t today to see what they had to say. They told me that this is the first time he is hearing about this problem, and they want me to try a factory reset first. So I guess I will try that.
I get all my calls. And text
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
That's the thing about ghost calls, you really DONT know that you're not getting them.
For example, if somebody calls you and doesn't leave a voicemail, you will never know it even happened. To the person calling you the phone rings like normal and goes to voicemail just as it should. But on your end the call never makes it to your phone and you are oblivious to what's going on.
I didn't think it was happening to me either until somebody actually brought it to my attention they had just called me.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
I started getting worried about the ghost calling issue and so I just got off the phone with AT&T. After explaining my problem the customer service person talked to their business center, tech services, and she even called LG for me. After everyone acknowledged the ghost calls as a problem but also had no solution for it... she eventually waved an upgrade fee, waved the phone fee, and is sending me a new, not refurbished, Samsung Galaxy SII for FREE... and I think I even get to keep my Thrill...
Goodluck trying to get that deal again... but I'm excited and can't wait to get my SGSII on Monday.

How long have you had your Thrill 4G? What did you have to say exactly? I looked over the specs of the Samsung GALAXY S II. It looks pretty nice actually.
I have had my Thrill since January. I simply asked if there was some information about the ghost call issues that started happening after the recent Gingerbread update. I explained that I had done some research and found out that it was a problem for many people, not just my individual phone. I went into the baseband issue and demonstrated that I knew what I was talking about. She then contacted support, tech, and even LG. After 45 minutes everyone recognized that the Thrill has issues but there aren't any good solutions at the moment. LG claims that they have not had many complaints about the Gingerbread update yet, so we need to fill their inboxes/forums with complaints.
So this is actually my business line and I am on a small business plan with AT&T so I explained how ghost calls just aren't acceptable. She totally agreed with me (I'm telling you I got lucky to get this customer service person). She talked with her manager about giving me an early early upgrade exemption. He approved it. I think waffled on the price... so she offered it to me completely free of charge. BAM. At first she did offer it at the normal $99 upgrade cost plus $18 activation fee...
Has anyone else successfully swapped their phones?
I'm getting host calls and delayed texts no matter which gingerbread baseband I flash. If I could swap this for a galaxy SII, I would in a heartbeat.
Dang that's cool they hooked you up like that! I haven't had any problems at all on stock gingerbread or with roms. A GSII would be sweet but I love this phone and enjoy the 3d way more than I thought I would.

MMS Issues

My wife and I have been having issues with group texting since we got these phones. What usually happens is she'll receive a MMS and it won't download. I'm coming from a Nexus 6 and she from an HTC One M8, but for some reason it's much worse on her phone than it is on mine. We activated the SIM card that came with the phone. We've tried all the obvious things: resetting APNs, clearing data on the messaging app, using a different app, trying with VoLTE on and off (which I heard worked with the Z3). There's been an open ticket with T-Mobile for two weeks which hasn't really gone anywhere. It seems to happen no matter who the group text originates from. We have both iPhones and Androids in the chat.

I was having the same issues with group MMS on my G4. Girlfriend has a G4 as well and the same issues. I absolutely loved my G3 but the G4 has been one disappointment after another. I went and bought another S6 a couple days ago and the MMS issues are completely gone (had an S6E before the G4 without the issues also). I really want to like the G4 but until there's root at a minimum it's going to be sitting on my desk unused. It lags, the damn Hangouts has stopped message, the MMS issues, the lack of control over bluetooth messaging access (which was present in the G3 as well but fixed via xposed).

Yeah I was having that issue as well. Since I've moved back to my S6 and my girlfriend has stuck with the G4 I've tested that a lot along with comparing a couple group MMS that we're both in and it's quite frequent that she not only gets the unable to download error but messages don't even come through at all. I've turned off wifi calling on her phone for days at a time to see if that sorts it out but it doesn't. Tried adding an APN with 80 as the MMS port as well which used to solve a lot of MMS issues on TMo but that didn't do any good either. I haven't gotten rid of my G4 yet but the case against it is building :/

Yea I just tried the port 80 trick along with flipping it to IPv4/IPv6 to see if it makes any difference. I really want to like this phone but stuff like this is getting old. I'm also tired of being on the phone with T-Mobile Tech support... Lol. My wife's replacement G4 seems to be doing better in this regard but I don't know if the issues are going to come back.

Same issues here. I had the same exact issue with my G3 which is part of the reason I upgraded to the G4. Oh well.
T-Mobile seems to be stumped. Clicking the retry button never does anything.
I did a factory reset and so far I have now been getting all the messages in my group chat. Hopefully it stays like this!
My wife's phone is getting the retry download thing again. It was good while it lasted.... All 36 hours of it. Meanwhile, tmobile is sending me another phone, but I'm not optimistic.

It's almost like it's a rot issue of some sort. When I switched back to my S6 I factory wiped my G4 and was ready to sell it I was so annoyed but I decided to just hang out to it a little bit longer. Earlier this week I loaded it up and used it for a day or so and everything was working okay and then sure enough about 2 days in all the same old bugs started again. Definitely consistent across our devices it seems.
I've been having this problem with for a while. I think it's a T-Mobile thing. I had this problem with my Nexus 5, S5 and now my G4. It seems to only happen with Group Messaging for me on all 3 phones.

What's funny is one of the techs I've spoken with at tmobile mentioned that, off the record. He said there was some system update they did some time ago and ever since then they've had more calls about SMS and MMS issues. I really don't remember having the issue as much when I had the Nexus 6 or the One M8 but I don't think I was group texting quite as much. Since tmobile is sending out a replacement I'll probably switch to it. I guess I'll stop sweating it so much... Just annoying.

That's strange I've never had this issue with any of my other phone on TMo including the S6 I'm using now. Hopefully it gets sorted in one fashion or another soon.
I had 3 this weekend from three different people - all had iPhones. One was on at&t, one was on Verizon, and I'm finding out the carrier for the third right now.
And all of the groups were three people - 2 iPhones and my G4.
I've been suffering this issue on my AT&T G4 on multiple occasions. Doesn't appear to be carrier related, unfortunately.
Does anyone have a new updated solution for this? My SO has a tmobile g4 and SMS/MMS is worthless at work. No signal (or other networks), great wifi signal but message just say sending and failed.. Wifi in of it self works fine to surf.
I have a similar problem on my note 4, but it is much less frequent.
Thanks!
