[KERNEL] [DEV] [P31xx] AA-ANYKERNEL- fix the Android 4.4.x drain - Galaxy Tab 2 7" Android Development

AA-ANYKERNEL
Why another Kernel?
A lot of user faced a high Battery-Drain since Android 4.4.x.
It is hard to find the cause of the Problem, because it does not happen to everyone.
The problem seems to be related to the merged commit "apply P3110 JB Update1 from opensource.samsung.com" on our kernel source wich didn´t made Problems before Android 4.4.x.
Who is working on this Kernel?
Since i am still somehow a "Newbie" and don´t understand everything i am not able to sperate the Source of Problem. Our wonderfull Kernel-Dev @ketut.kumajaya is answering my qustions if i run in some trubble.
Why a own Thread for this kernel?
You must know, most of our Roms are using the CM-11.0 Kernel for their Roms - means: a lot of Roms are affected, even if it does not happen to every user. Solveing the issue does not only help fixing CM, also a lot of other Roms wich should be in interest of every user.
Kernel-Source
https://github.com/slimroms/kernel_samsung_espresso10
About the Process:
I took our SlimKat Kernel as base:
1. Applyed the JB Update 1 commit from @ketut.kumajaya
I went back to 3.0.31 kernel and applyed JB Update 1 in 3 parts instead 1 for better changes tracking.
At least i did the upstream from 3.0.31 to 3.0.101 again and added back all other changes wich got applyed on our 3.0.101 kernel before.
@tuxafgmur made huge commit to solve the drain, it was to big to get it merged.
So i made a diff between his changes - 500.000 lines diff - lol.
I worked many days on it to get out the original commits from the diff and found most of them.
So we know JB Update 1 seems to be the source of problem, now lets go ahead:
2. revert some parts from JB Update 1
Only Partially reverted:
arch/arm/mach-omap2/cpuidle44xx.c: (partially) revert JB Update 1 and partially apply "Fix configs & missing log options" from DhollmenKernel by Tuxafgmur
drivers/net/wireless/bcmdhd/dhd_sec_feature.h: partially revert JB Update 1/3
3. Add back missing parts from Upstream 3.0.38 -> 3.0.39
4. some different changes, i´ll list the some times later

@Android-Andi well done.. Our great andi ??

I am on SOKP so does this kernel wipe out the init.d files like the next kernel..

A new Kernel For Tab 2 Thx Man.

@iSagar7 no, this does not delete the init.d folder.
This is a development Kernel! No specials inside atm.
I hope we can use it later to compare with CM´s kernel to fix the the Battery-Drain on most Android 4.4.x Roms.
I am uploading a reworked installer, added also an Option to install our batteryfriendly SlimKat Kernel for those who need it after testing the AA-ANYKERNEL
I don´t need feedback here for SlimKat kernel, only for the AA-ANYKERNEL.
The installer includes all needed blobs for both kernel - don´t worry, it will automatically choose the right blobs
Don´t forget to thanks also @ketut.kumajaya and @psndna88 !!!

I took a screenshot of BBS, I think I'm having the battery drain issue. I didn't play any game or something, I'm just chatting on Facebook/WhatsApp.

Okay, so I ran the AROMA installer and it gave me three options. Which one should I choose?
Edit: choose the option to flash AA-ANYKERNEL. I'm stuck at the splash screen, can't go to recovery, but download mode is still okay.
Edit 2: managed to get into recovery after few tries, flashed NEXT 2.2.2 and it's booting now. Can you provide a tutorial to install the kernel, please?

Installed smoothly without any hitch on Slimkat 5.10 build. The aroma installer is lovely. The device is functioning smoothly. Shall report battery usage after a day's use. Thanks a lot for this new effort, Android-Andi!

I tried to open the log, but everything I see is a blank file, wtf?
Also, yeah I was on NEXT Kernel... should I do a clean install?

No, dirty flash the Rom to replace the kernel, after that flash my kernel.
Will check the log again after work... But should work on the one i uploaded today - same filename as before!

AA-Anykernel needs to be tested in hope we can fix CM.... Everything mentioned in OP. I don't need feedback here for SlimKat kernel.

First my thanks for your hard work.
My fone has been on tilals cm10.2 and TWRP.
First time I flashed your rom I only wiped cache, but the fone didn't start up to home screen.
I could see the unicorn first, then the colored x. After 5 minutes I did a cold start.
Now I flashed twice, after first flash I full wiped than flashed again.
But now I again see the colored x for 10 minutes at this moment.
I will go back to tilals cm10.2.
Thanks

Thanks for your answer! I was mostly interested in battery life, because the superfast drain that occured in CM 10.2 was the reason I went back to 4.2.2.
Flashed and it started off good, But not long in to using the rom i had a Blue screen, also couldnt download from the play store, it just hangs when you press install.

Indeed, just like XP but not text on it.
I had to flash back to CM because i needed the phone, but will try again.
I gonna give it a try. I'm very happe with AOKP on my N7.
Hopefully AOKP will work alot better then cm.
Can't wait to flash and test this rom!

Works perfect so far. No reboots, no blue screen, no lag at all! Can't tell about battery life so far, but awesome build! Thanks Championswimmer!
Can those of you testing the ROM post your battery life results in like a day or two? I'm curious to see how different this is from tilal's CM 10.2 builds in terms of battery life.

I tried making a fresh install, but I was overwhelmed by the amount of settings, and since I wanted the phone to be ready as I was leaving home in a while, I restored my cwm backup.
I'll wait to hear about the battery life from other users and try again in a couple of days!

Runing now, my fault was to restore data from recovery.
All works well, battery drain seems less then cm10.2.
I miss profiles a bit.
Will test the rom a bit longer.

Sony devices, like older Samsungs, have a unified recovery/kernel in a single image. We haven't yet merged support for building TWRP on userdebug builds (although it's mostly complete with some small kinks to work out), so recovery fails on any userdebug build for devices with unified kernel/recovery.

Seriously ?
You think if recovery is broken, it will broke your device ??
I am developing ROM from almost 1 and half year through different device and I know what user gets through my build and what thing can break device...
For your information even if recovery is broken, that wouldn't break your device, remember this.
And stop misleading people, I already stated that this build is unofficial, so I am not stopping you from releasing the build you have made either official or semi-official.
This thread is for the ROM development, not for advertisement of any other build, So, stop posting something that you don't know about or not related to this build.

GT-I9195 ~ C-Rom ~ f4k Kernel
This Rom: wow, wow, wow, WOW!
Carbon meets Pac-rom and I guess what we get is C-Rom! This rom is amazing, packed with features. It even contains both the Carbon performance app as well as Kernel tweaker, which could be a bit dangerous but it's nice to see so many options and features! Did I already say wow?
For anyone who is a fan of Carbon Rom, I would HIGHLY recommend you check this out. Just gave it a quick peek, everything seems to be fine. Going to install it with Gapps and f4ktion kernel now and give it a proper test drive.
Just one question, what is that message icon thing at the top of the notification panel? It doesn't seem to do anything..

Hi again! Testing the rom I found two small failure; there isn't init.d folder in system-etc, kernel tweaker app don't works correctly when you apply his tweaks. I use universal init.d app and works good now.
And lock screen wallpapers in themes dont work for me too.

Confirmed. I will fix it in the next build. In the meantime, you can just create the init.d folder under /system/etc folder.
I also read a post on their Google plus page saying not to use kernel tweaker in v6.4.

FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK
THE DEV TEAM IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE YOU CAUSE TO YOUR PHONE
** Please be aware some builds may not work, and be patient with the Vanir team as they continue to sort stuff out **
DIRECTIONS
Boot to Recovery
BACKUP
Wipe System/Data/Davlik/Cache
Install Rom
Install Gapps
Wipe Davlik/Cache
Profit!
°°For those flashing custom kernels°°
Be aware- Vanir includes a script that enables their own kernel tweaks. This script does not play well with flashing custom kernels. The solution!
Flash ROM
Navigate to- /system/etc/init.d/
Delete the file- 00kernelcompat
Reboot to recovery
Flash kernel
Profit!
You can also open the ROM zip on your PC before flashing and remove the file from the same directory then flash the ROM and you're good to flash the kernel.
**If you dirty flash between nighties, DO NOT wipe system or data before flashing the ROM. It will wipe gapps and the ROM install script won't be able to restore them**
That said, a clean flash is always recommended

klte is the GSM model, but obviously the ROM still is ready only for CDMA, not yet for GSM. No mobile network support. Replacing the libril.so and libsec-ril.so is somehow decision for finding the network, but then the dialer crashes and the phone reboots. Unfortunately

Gallery2.apk not included in /syste/app Camera must be installed either from another ROM or third party. I installed Nokia Camera and works fine (see the latest image of screenshot), except gallery error after rebooted the system.
Brief review
1. Installed ROM as instructed in OP, rebooted the system and system works as it should be. Since user apps have not yet been installed, system running fast and smooth as usual.
2. Tweaked build.prop: dalvik2cache script (dalvik.vm.dexopt-data-only=0), in order to move [email protected]*.dex files from /data/dalvik-cache to /cache/dalvik-cache and enable soft keys in navigation bar (qemu.hw.mainkeys=0). Rebooted the system and it works just fine. However, dexes still occupy /data/dalvik-cache. Need to be removed manually and gained plenty of free space (ca. 180 MB) in internal memory (/data) afterward.
3. Link2SD works, no headache, since it's fresh installed . However, restoring apps using TB, even a single app took minutes or failed. Will explore further.
4. No need to flash GappsLight. Google services files are already included in /system/app-priv. Simply installed the latest gmscore.apk, login into G server and all G services (incl. Playstore) works as it should be.
5. Will try PA features and report it later. At least floating window works like a charm. Hover? looking how to enable it.
Thanks to our great dev @rhar**** for bringing PA 4.4.3 to our obsolete device :good:
EDIT:
And of course, many thanks also to Olivier. :good:

Thanks a lot for your review.
The gallery and camera were excluded because of /system storage issue.
And to enable hover, open the notification and you'll find a different icon near the quick settings. Just tap that and there you go!

Thanks for using my sources but not mentioning me anywhere at all. As you certainly know, I have forked and patched some of the PA repos to make AOSPA run better on our ARMv6 devices and this took me some time.
Why I know that you used my work? You starred one of my repos some days ago and the build number in the Screenshot is hardcoded to "KTU84M" (should actually be "pa_p500..." and so on.
Think about it.

Yes, I did use your repos, but had to edit things too to make it work on my phone, like Wallpaper, etc. But the main credits goes to you and your team.

Weird!. It works for me . When you click the download file (zip), yes the browser will open a new window of advertisement or something likes that. Simply kill it and main window is downloading the zip file.
I'm not able to install Gapps, I flash them but after a reboot they aren't in! Tried with GAPPSlight and Banks, also tried to flash them with a different recovery (TWRP 2.7.1.0).
P.S. the ROM runs really fast and seems stable, more than other KitKat builds, thanks a lot

Additional review
Issues:
1. Google + 4.3.1 from @Notonlyeyes can't not be installed , while it works fine on OMNI (Beta7) :good:
2. Spirit FM (Nov 16) doesn't work. Duh. It works like a charm in Beta7. No need BT
With those issues, prefer Beta7 for my daily driver. Features enrichment on Beta7 can be done using Xposed modules :good:
Reverted to Beta 7 :good:

I don't know about Google+ but spirit has issues because of drivers.
For that, Omni's kernel is great. The only issue it has is offline charging. So, I'm thinking of making a kernel compatible with both cm and aosp (the source)
