Are you a PORTRAIT or a LANDSCAPE? - Galaxy Tab S General

Do you prefer to use your tablet in portrait or landscape? I'm a portrait and why I went with the 10.5 over the convenience and portability of the 8.4.
** Update: I'm primarily referring to when you read on your tablet. Assuming most people are a landscape when watching movies

portrait is what the 8.4 is.. the 10.5 is landscape.

Depends. Movies and photos landscape. Music and internet portrait (though the 10.5 is great for internet as well).

Text is too small in portrait on the 8.4 for me.

50-50 on my 8.4. I have great eyesight

Really depends for me. Portrait for Web and G+ etc, landscape for movies and Youtube.

Surprisingly I'm a portrait on my 10.5, I thought I would be mostly landscape.

Portrait most of the time.... Unless watching videos.

Mostly landscape.
Because:
Thats the way I can use my bookcover as comfortable stand.
Web site shown a little bigger and that easier to read.
Apps work (mostly) fine in landscape
Its easier to type stuff beacause the keyboard is bigger.
I'm 57 and I'm used to landscape monitors.
My head was designed to see the world in landscape
My wife however uses it mostly in portrait, but she owns a Ipad.

If reading then in portrait, but usually in landscape for movies and gaming

Slingbox Aspect Ratio Question

I have the slingbox app on my iphone and on my g-tab. The Iphone app lets me change the aspect ratio but I can't find that option on the g-tab version. Can someone point me in the right direction. My tablet plays in square box form causing everyone to be tall.....not very good for racing especially when there is screen left to fill on each side.
under options.. there are selections for aspect ratio

anyone have fruit ninja? is it stretched for you on the nc?

hi. i just got this on the nook color.
it seems stretched out... like everything is too wide stretched.
Mine looks pretty good, maybe a bit stretched but nothing too considerable

I have it and it looks just fine

thanks for the replies guys.
it's not so much the actual gameplay but the main menus when you have to swipe. they should be perfectly circular like on my iphone but they are a little squashed looking
i even enabled fullscreen.

The menus look oval (stretched) on my EVO4G as well. But when it gets to the game play, everything looks proportional.
It's probably just a bug from porting the game to Android.
You can get Chainfire3D and play the HD version of the game...
looks good on mine.

Touchwiz lags on Galaxy Tab 8.9 (7310)

Hi,
I've posed a question about this issue before, but other than installing a different launcher, has anyone figured out how to make touchwiz smooth as butter like the 10.1?
By the way, I asked Samsung tech support about this issue. They told me to do a hard reset. It didn't fix anything, it still stutters. I've read several reviews and many of them don't mention the lag/stutter. It makes no sense how many people don't mention this issue. I went back to Bestbuy and they had two of them on display. They both stuttered, but the 10.1 on display was smooth. Hopefully ICS will fix the issue.
Thanks,
GP
I just got mine yesterday and it was laggy right out of the box, before I even installed anything. I love Samsung devices and after owning both versions of the Epic 4g, im used to Touchwiz. I was really surprised how laggy and slow it was. I installed ADW launcher and the problem is completely solved. Rooting and flashing a ROM would obviously work as well.

Actually all tegra 2 tabs have the same problem and unfortunately it seems to be a hardware problem. The only difference with GT8.9 is that it has this problem in landscape and all other tabs have it in portrait. This is because the screen in GT8.9 is rotated 90 degrees.
I have also thought about contacting support about this issue to see what they tell me, but I'm afraid they have no idea why it is like it is, so I haven't seen a point in contacting them.
If you absolutely want to keep TouchWiz, maybe rooting and deleting all the bloatware would speed things up.

I'am installed Honeycomb 3.2 (3.1 was out in the box) - lags become less.
I also upgraded to HC 3.2 15 minutes after opening box. I've personally never experienced any lag. That's just me. If it gets better than this I'm all in.

10.1 devices from what i understand are landscape bias, smaller devices like our 8.9 are portrait bias.
As for Touchwiz, its touchwiz, its a laggy overlay that is a completely unnecessary and drains precious resources when we have a usable dailt driver ICS ROM out of the Galaxian Soup? guys. Most of the lag will be gone. Look at the 10.1 ICS alpha ROM, night and day difference
A word to the wise:
Live wallpapers lag the hell out of this tab. Not rooted stock anyways...
Confirming lag out of the box on 8.9 with TouchWiz. If it were not for ADW Launcher EX showing it CAN be smooth, I would have returned the tab.
Why do people like TouchWiz? I don't really understand. Its quite a resource beast for not much functionality.
just my opinion.
Please understand, TouchWiz is not the problem. Try something simple, turn your tab to portrait, now swipe the homescreens... do you see lag? No.
It's hardware problem and all Tegra 2 tabs have this problem, with one big difference, they have this problem in portrait mode and we have it in landscape. On GT8.9 the screen is rotated 90 degrees and thats the reason we have it in landscape.

I think Samsung did that 90 degrees rotation on purpose. They thought people would use the 8.9 more in portrait than in landscape mode due to its hardbook form (reading and some light web browsing). Then they left the landscape mode as the default for the 10.1 thinking its users would tend to use the big screen for movies and such.

I agree, it must be for that reason and I do use it mostly in portrai mode.
Honestly the lag with HC3.2 is not that bad. I'm not big in useless customizations but I like the small applications that appear at the center of the tab without closing your current app. It makes writing down notes or calculating something very quick just like in a laptop. I think android should come with their own set of this tiny apps.

I would disagree with that since the layout on the 8.9 tab would indicate it was designed for landscape mode. The way the logos are positioned (front and rear), camera position (front and rear), and 30 pin connector location would suggest.
Compare that to the layout of the above items on the GTab 7.7 or smaller GTabs, now those were designed with portrait in mind.
I also had the same crappy lag on tocuhwiz UX with HC 3.1 in both portrait and landscape. I flashed overcome and installed ADW and haven't looked back. The tab rocks now.
I really hope aftermarket and dev support pick up for this.
This would instantly pull me from wanting a Xyboard 8.2
There are some appealing features to me on the 8.2 but it's been DOA for the most part.
With the 8.9 it just worries me the same as the Xyboard. At least there is root and rom. Just need the aftermarket to pick up.
Not gonna lie, a huge basis of my choosing a tab is if I can get a really stout case for it. I need Otterbox or Gumdrop to do something for this tab.
Emailed them both and neither have responded....which isn't really impressive to me considering I've bought three cases from Gumdrop and 4 or 5 from Otterbox...
8" tabs are the future...7" is almost too small and 10" you can only do so much with. 8" is absolutely perfect.

Agreed.
You would think gumdrop would have one on the way for the 8.9 since they did a 10.1 version...I don't like the added thickness so a TPU case works for me.
Also turning of all animations in settings might make the tab more smooth.
I've the same problem. Any solution?

OK, but how to import a TouchWiz widgets to ADW?

Wallpaper size 7.7 tab

What must be exactly wallpaper size for tab 7.7 so that the whole picture would fit to screen. Size for lock screen and background are different I think.
I do not know too
Awsome
Well I think they are full hd.
I use multi picture live wallpaper on my Tab and Note. It allows you to have a different wallpaper for each screen. But most important is that you can use wallpapers of your own that you can size in portrait or landscape layout that fit all the screen with the whole picture.

Yes multi picture walpaper is a must have, also i recommend wallbase walpapers, it has some really nice high quality papers

I downloaded Multi picture wallpapers and it only fit the wallpaper in landscape mode. Is it possible to fit the wallpaper in both landscape and portrait mode? and how can i do if it's possible?
Could not help you on portrait mode as i only use it in landscape mode

1920 x 1408 i think...if you want really nice wallpapers, check out PicSpeed. I get some really nice high quality ones using that
1280x1280 works best for me. I do the cropping on my computer so the wallpapers are ready for my tab.
7.7 wallpaper size
For Galaxy tab 7.7 wallpaper size should be 1280 X 800

SM-T815 Screen resolution , text size - how the game on 2048×1536 px

Hi,
9.7 inches Ipad compare S2
Ipad -- 2,048 × 1,536 px
Tabs S2 - 2048×1536 px
I have played game: leps world 3 and other
The same games I have loaded to Ipad air and they look smaller ? I mean the leps world 3 the movement buttons was smaller and the all screen experience was better Where on Tab S2 it is feel like the game was 20-30 percent zoom in and the touch buttons was to big which make game experience not good. I do fell that developer needs time to optimise games for 2048×1536 px resolution
Do you see the same issue with other apps ???
For me some text as well not scaled perfect to the screen - Looks little to big sometimes This is not bad thing for bad eyes But if I compare Ipad and S2 the Ipad text most time was 30% smaller that S2
It is feel at the moment that I have product – happy with hardware but software not perfect and how many month wait before everything will be fixed ?
Have you installed Samsung Game Tuner app?

No - Does it helps ?
will give a go Thanks : )
If you root the tab you can apply another DPI setting (via, for example, the app "Root dpi changer"). The preset 320 dpi are indeed unnecessarily high. 270 dpi is much better.
Ya certain games will like zoom, so far only one of my games like this. The rest all work fine.
Fonts I use Extra small, everything looks small enough to me and just nice.
By the way mine is 8" edition.
