my restoration from the hardest mid-brick ive ever faced - LG Optimus L90

so imagine this.... my system is wped my laf isnt so no fastboot and my recovey was corupted so it locked at the processing factory eset. and i couldnt get the official kdz restore to work because my device wasnt plugging in right. so then what right? well i discovered a peice of info that may help others. i tried entering recovery again beause i was desperate and then i heard that magical wndows sound where a device is plugged in and m like yea probably just a usb composite like the others. i go to device manager..... it was in fastboot so i quickly with new vgor switched to linux flashed twrp and restored from my backups. hopefully this helps someone

[Q] Any way to put Safestrap Recovery on without APK?

My Droid 4 is bricked, but out seems to me that if I could get safestrap recovery in, I could boot any working "safe" ROM and leave my non-functioning "unsafe" system alone until the day a fastboot image becomes available.
The only wrinkle is that since the current OS is bricked, I can't load the Safestrap recovery via Apk. Is there any way to load it using one of the remaining capabilities in the phone (normal recovery, fastboot, etc.)?
I definitely don't have the full technical ability to answer your question, but to get the ball rolling:
Can you get adb up and running? If you can't, my guess is no... If you can, somebody who knows more than I do might be able to get you going...
Call Motorola or the wireless vendor where you got your phone and play dumb.
How did you brick your phone?
I bricked mine the first time by restoring a saved stock rom that I had made. Little did I know, but I got the webtop save mixed up, and totally soft-bricked my handset.
Safestrap is a good alternative to having nothing, but you should read everything there is to know about it before installing it. Conceptually, it doesn't share a whole lot with the original clockworkmod recovery.

I've thought about it. (1) there's stuff on the internal "sdcard" (/sdcard, as distinct from the removable real SDC) I'd like to recover if I could, so restoring the phone I have right now is preferable, unless restoring from a fastboot recovery wipes /sdcard).. and (2) I hate the idea of "cheating" on a warranty for a self-inflicted product failure, both on the ethics of it and on the remote possibility I could get caught.

I had safely rooted the phone (Droid 4 Utility is awesome) and installed Titanium Backup Pro. I was playing around with freezing bloatware, deleting bloatware, and the like... the last thing I did before rebooting and never coming back was integrating system application dalvik cache into the ROM and then undoing that integration. But I can't be sure that was the killer, since I hadn't rebooted for a while before that... one of the other changes earlier could have been it.

Yeah, I recognize it's a very different world because of the locked bootstrap, so I'd obviously have to adapt to the differences, but just the ability to get some use out of the phone before the fastboot recovery leaks would be a good start. My needs are not great. Something besides repeated reboots ("Droid..." every 10 seconds until the battery runs flat) would make me happier than a pig in slop.

Yeah. The times I've tried, the phone never boots to the point that the USB debugging driver on the PC ever sees the phone ("adb devices" lists nothing).
About the only interaction I can get to is to force the phone into fastboot and plugging in with the fastboot USB driver on the PC. RSD Lite does see the phone then. Too bad I don't have a fastboot recovery to use at that point.

Plz Help! HTC One Stuck On Start Up Screen

I went to install the most recent up date. When it got done installing it started to reboot. It then got stuck on the HTC start up screen. I do not know a whole bunch on phones but did a little research and tried to recover and reboot the phone and neither worked. I would really like to find a fix that does not involve erasing all my data. I have all the pictures of my baby from the past year, from the time that he was born until now, and I would really hate to lose those. Thank you!

Maybe some more information... what ROM, was this a stock OTA? If you have custom recovery and are attempting to flash a custom ROM, then try to reflash...if you have lost your data already or to avoid data loss;try side-loading a ROM...can't tell you much from what I've read, but if you can hold power+ volume down simultaneously for about 15 secs you should end up in recovery, if you installed a custom recovery; e.g.Philz, TWRP, CWM...then you'll pop up there....
It is safe to say that if you don't have any of these custom recoveries then you'll need to use the RUU found in the Dev section....

I am sorry, I am completely stupid when it comes to phone. I know that I have not done any customizations. It is not rooted and would not have a custom ROM, not quite sure what that is. Everything should be stock. So what would I have to do to do the option that you have stated? I apologize for my lack of knowledge.
does your pc recognize the the phone when you plug it in? you could try extracting the data like stated before, but you're not rooted so that'd be a problem. an ruu would be your best bet, even though you'll lose your data. I HIGHLY suggest creating a dropbox and backing up your photos, it has done wonders for me.

It recognizes it to an extent. My computer will ding recognizing that it is plugged in but since it does not go past the start up screen you can't get into the phone storage. I do have a dropbox but with the thousands of pictures on my phone it unfortunately only stored a month or so of pictures. I am not so much worried about the phone, as I have insurance on it and can get it replaced. Just really want the pictures. When looking online I had read something about unlocking the boot menu and downloading a ROM I believe. Do you know anything about that and if it would work for me? Or is that the same thing as the RUU?

Mine gets stuck on boot screen occasionally. Sounds weird but hold the phone drectly up to a light bulb and try to reboot the phone. This works for my particular problem. Not sure why but it does.

Hold power and vol-down together until it reboots into bootloader. Connect to USB and select 'fastboot' on the bootloader menu. That should get you to fastboot. From there, you can HTCDEV unlock the thing (in all likelihood).

[Q] Stuck in Bootloop after fixing permissions in TWRP

Hey All,
Finally got my nexus 6 and I'm pumped to have a developer phone again. Haven't done anything since I got rid of my galaxy nexus a year or so ago, so I'm a bit rusty. Sorry if this has been posted before, I searched but couldn't find anything related to this. Long story short, I had my phone unlocked and rooted and have TWRP installed fine. I just went in and cleared the cache, dalvik cache, and fixed permissions... and now I'm stuck in a bootloop. After researching I'm pretty sure it was the fixed permissions that messed it up, I didn't know that it didn't work on lollipop at the time. I've come to the conclusion I need to reflash the stock images and start from scratch. The only problem is I'm currently stuck at work for another 4 hours and can't use adb at all on this computer. So I'm wondering if anyone knew of another way to fix from just the phone. Thanks in advanced guys!

you can try flashing any rom, since you have twrp installed, or you can try wiping data(factory reset).

Unfortunately, I do not have any ROMs saved on my phone yet. I just got it last night with only maybe an hour or two of playing time. I also tried factory reset through TWRP and am still experiencing the bootloop. Would formatting data help? I feel like it would, but like I said, I'm rusty.

I know, but I can't boot my phone to download it. Hence, why I'm going to have to flash the stock images when I get home. How is rastapop? I need to find something since the big names aren't out yet. I'll try it out later once everything is fixed. I'm mad I ran into this boot loop because custom rom was next on my list of things to do haha

Yah I realized fixing permissions messes it up. And also if u wipe internal storage the phone looses the system ui and the back home menu buttons as well
well thats good to know. Will it still do that if I'm not encrypted?

Probably too late to do, but USB-OTG cable and a jump drive. I have downloaded stuff on work PC, copied to jump drive and flashed it on phone with TWRP from the jump drive.
I can personally confirm the permission fix in TWRP recovery breaks the stock L5.0.0 and 5.0.1 and I assume probably most ROMs? There seems to be several threads about this.

Stock recovery or TWRP?
Are you looking to undo what you did without having to do a complete wipe, or are you open to more drastic solutions? Because you can always run the toolkit to reset to complete stock by flashing the stock images over your current system. But that would of course perform a complete wipe.

I dont really mind a complete wipe. And are you referring to this toolkit? http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...l-windroid-universal-android-toolkit-t3048099
if not could you please tell me which one?
And to clarify, I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fPIYhzWlnw . The file that I flashed to attempt to root is in the description of that.

I actually used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/tool-moto-x-pure-edition-recovery-t2897819 when I was messed around, but I would imagine either would work. When I needed to return to unrooted stock, I believe that toolkit returned me to 4.4.4 unrooted stock, then I just ran the 5.0 OTA once the phone booted up.
The toolkit you referenced is the one I used to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, and root my phone. As long as you can get to recovery or fastboot, either toolkit should work to return you to stock. BUT I caution you, I have a pure edition, and these toolkits were made for the pure edition. If you do not have a pure edition, you'll want to read the disclaimers/instructions/other posts to make sure it will work on your phone.
Okay so this escalated quickly.
So here I am being my dumb self , I try to flash TWRP. That goes fine and then I try to wipe my data. After that I reboot it and as its turning on it foes black on the boot animation. and now I cant even get into freaking recovery mode. I dont know what I did but im pretty sure I messed up bad. I need some serious help now and anything is appreciated.

Bootloader as in vol. down + power button right? Thats not working too. I also tried other combinations to no luck. And before it was turning on but now its not even booting to the boot animation. Thanks for the link though, if it does magically boot into the bootloader then i'll know what to do at least.
Edit: Okay so theres the charging animation, so thats a start, I guess. Still no luck on the bootloader tho.
Okay got it into bootloader mode!
Now before I do any other stupid thing can somebody just confirm one thing for me? On Graffix's website, this is the img I should flash through mfastboot right

I agree that Toolkits can make you lazy and not learn how to fix things on your own, but when you need a quick fix and don't have time to figure out what is going wrong, it's always nice to just boot your phone into fastboot or recovery and fix things with a few keystrokes on your computer.
I got it to work guys! Thanks for all the help. It was much appreciated.

unrootable (prototype N6)

hey everyone just picked up a prototype N6 from a buddy and having serious issues rooting this verion. i have rooted my other N6 with no issues but this build (shamu-userdebug l lrw80j 1454210 dev-keys) just wont seem to work if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great ty. this version included a power button on the back of the phone which was nice and why it caught my eye.
What have you tried and where does it fail?
Root is usually unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash supersu from recovery.
The problem you may have if the hardware is different is that the kernel would then be different, meaning there wont be a version of TWRP with a bootable kernel for your device. So just like you cannot run TWRP for a HTC on the Nexus 6, that could be the same case.
oh ok i see what you mean. everytime it gets to the try to temp load twrp it never seems to boot up im using the toolkit .and now it seems that i can't even boot into the system anymore just into fast boot but i can still use the flash boot flash options in root tool kit and i think you are so right about the kernel but just dont know which one to use i tried restoring /baseband /boot/system with a orignal factory 6.0 but individually but not working . is there a different method you think i can try? ty for your help.

If you're going to root, recovery is important.
There are apps that can root once booted into android, but you're playing with fire, especially if there hardware is different - as that means you will not have a factory image to flash either. These things are best kept untouched.
Great and I just messed up this systems IMG. cause I'm just stuck at the fastboot now I hope there is away around this. I had a feeling I shouldn't have gotten this version but wanted to be different now it just cost me smfh. Here are the pics of the phone and info

I cant think of a way around it. You could try flashing a stock system.img via fastboot but I cant say I'm hopeful and likely will make things worse. Without custom recovery, it is unlikely that you can repair it.
You can of course try and factory reset it. Who knows, may make it boot?
Yea flashing the system. IMG in fastboot made it worst well I used the new android m system so maybe that's why. Not looking good I hope I can get some answers soon or if maybe someone can mod a system. IMG I can use with this hardware .

yup. i bet it was the moto x pro, but in development still. they probably used all the shamu software on it at first. im curious whether it would take the moto x pro software.
I'm going to try to flash a stock N6 ROM to see if it will load.

It has a power button on the back.
