oleophobic coating - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone (without screen protector) noticed the appearance of small spots on the display glass, where the oleophobic coating seems to have rubbed off a bit? They appear as small spots that permanently look more greasy/smudgy than the rest of the display glass. It started with one spot, but now there are several of them. Never had this with any other phone.

Nillkin 9H doesnt fit well..

I just did the whole proccess.
The whole thing doesn't cover the active screen fully. There is a thin uncovered part on the edges.
All around the protector I have a "lifted" frame that doesn't even touch the screen. Dirt and fiber will probably get stuck in there over time...
Also the camera glass protector is made out of a pretty non-smooth glass.. I can't even clean it with a cloth without leaving residue behind.
IS IT JUST ME?
Why is it so low quality??
I have one and the actual screen part is fully covered. Also, My protector is ever so slight;y lifted but not much. My camera protector is good as well.
I bought mine on ebay for under $10. Maybe they have quality control issues?
I have bought also Nillkin 9H protector and it fits as it should because it is made so it covers only the flat part of the screen.
Edges of the screen are rounded as you have noticed and protector can not fit on top of them , I know this because I had protector that was covering whole screen and it was not good believe me.
Full coverage screen protectors are not good for two reasons:
1. beneath the protector where are the edges dust collects and because there is very small gap you can not clean it. (looks horrible)
2. because protector is not in contact with rounded edges of the screen it will crack in 99% when it falls. (This is based on my personal experience)
So do not worry you'll get used to it and appreciate the benefits.
Can somebody please take a picture of how much gap there is to the edge of the screen for Nillkin? I have a noname screen 9H protector and considering switching to Nillkin if it has less edge gap.

Dust under screen ?

I forgot to carefully survey my brand new screen before putting on protector on it, which has as always has 2 or 3 dust particles under it. I'm worried that since I didn't look at the screen very carefully before putting the protector on, that it's actually under the screen glass and not the protector but if I lift it up to check it will ruin the application. Do these super amoled screens have issues with dust getting between the glass and screen during manufacture or is this not a problem ?
Possibly? If it's a crappy screen protector, who cares. 99.9% chance it's under the protector, so get it out. If it's a glass one, it's possible to lift it up on the edge and slide a dust removal sticker or piece of tape under and get the dust out... I did it on my G3 but I kept losing grip of the corner under my fingernail so there is a slight part of the corner that no longer sticks perfectly.

To prevent this, instead of using your fingernail which causes a slight bend in the plastic, use a piece of tape stuck to the corner to slowly lift the corner edge without bending. I use to always bend corners before switching to this method.

Well mine is glass and cost $30 which is why I didn't want to replace it. If it's a cheap plastic one, just replace it and do it right.
Sent from my LG G3
Sumsung fuses the Glass and Digitizer, so it is highly unlikely that the dust is actually under the screen.
it is dust free

What he said. I've had that problem in the past with iPhones (LCD) but it shouldn't be an issue with Samsung's AMOLEDs. It's infinitely more likely that you just have dust under the screen protector. I install these at work all the time, sometimes it happens.

[Q] Anti Shatter Film / Film thingy

Guys, does the z3 compact has any anti shatter film or the film thingy after the front glass? Becuase i noticed my front glass has a small stragiht line about half an inch from the side of the screen. Its just like a crack and when i use my nails it feels its somehow cracked. So im wondering if its a film cover that has been scratched on top of the glass or is it already the glass.
as far as I know it doesn't have a film no... So it's probably a scratch on the glass itself :-/
Hate to resurrect an old thread, but Xperia Z3s do have a plastic anti-shutter film. I bought a device with a cracked screen. The crack was so small that I thought it was on the film. So, I removed it, but the crack was underneath,. By the way, unlike on Z1 and Z2, Z3 screen film leaves a horrible glue residue that CANNOT be removed by alcohol or any other glue thinner: tried them all. Since I didn't need the original screen, I tried to scrub some spots with a scalpel. It worked without damaging the original glass, but to clean the entire screen would take the whole day. So, thank you, Sony, again... for making a glass screen covered with cheap plastic.
I bought an after-market display: I didn't use generic sticky, but instead applied B7000 adhesive glue. I bought a bottle with a fine metal tip; put a thin layer of glue on the frame; let it sit for 2 minutes, and then set the screen applying little pressure. After that, I put the phone under about 20 pounds of book weight and let it sit overnight. I am not sure about waterproofing, but it looks and feels like the screen has become a part of the frame: no movement, no squeaking at all...

[Q] [ZB551KL] Micro scratches on screen

Hey guys, I have recently noticed my screen got 3/2 micro scratches, so now I'm wondering, aren't these scratches on the oleophobic coating? I wonder because I have used other devices for years in the past with stock/plastic screen (without protectors) and none of them got a single scratch. And no, I haven't done any such thing to make it prone to scratch, I'm a extremely careful person. Isn't it supposed to gorilla glass be more resistant than plastic? What's going on?

Gorilla Glass is not scratch-proof. It's scratch resistant. Tempered glass are there for a reason.
And please post on the correct forums.

I'm aware of this but how come my older devices with plastic screen didn't scratch? I find this totally inaccurate, plastic is much more softer and prone to scratch than glass. I'm not sure if every device with Gorilla Glass comes with coating by default, though, I can notice some weird smudge spots on my screen which looks darker than the whole screen, specially where I usually touch it, it's only visible when the screen is dirty, perhaps, there is a coating and it's wearing out?

Tempered Glass Screen Protector

What tempered glass is everyone using for the V60? I don't use the Dual Screen, so I just need it to cover the phone screen.
Dmax glass was the thinnest glass screen protector I have ever seen for any phone I've put glass on ever.
Came in a pack of two. I chipped and cracked the edge of one with my fingernail simply taking the film off to install it. The second cracked in a couple days later from setting the phone down too hard I guess.
LK glass had poor adhesion. Large air bubbles on the edges of the screen. Bad enough I took it off after a month to try a diffrent brand. Noticed the sticky part of the glass felt subpar after uninstall.
Now using Zagg glass and its okay. Doable for now. However a thin ring shaped air bubble is present on the Zagg around the edges of the screen. It's thin and even, and can't be seen when the screen is on. When off it looks like its gonna start peeling up at the edges.
The issue I had with glass is that its too thick to close the cover if you have one on the phone and one on the sexind screen
AmFilm is what I put on the phone today. Came in a pack of three. Probably the best protector I've tried yet.
Thicker glass, might be a true 0.3mm. No bubbles or rings near the edges. Sticks very well, good adhesive.
Touch is good and looks are good with the screen off or on.
However, AmFilm is slightly (1mm?) shorter and narrower than the Zagg glass.
The Zagg glass was 0.26-0.23mm thick and covered more screen surface. The Zagg covers more screen surface than LK, DMax, or AmFilm.
However, the Zagg never adhered to the screen edges completely resulting in a white ring air pocket along the outer edges of the protector.
The Zagg glass was stuck to the screen very well when I removed it. The outer air pocket never did grow in size, was very narrow, just annoyed me to look at when the screen was off.
Overall the Zagg was a good option, but maybe not for those like me that value good looks as highly as I do.
The DMax Armor glass I tried was so thin, it might be an option for the dual screen case. DMax could have been 0.15mm thick possibly. Really similar to the Baseus ultra thin glass.
It's very fragile stuff as noted above, but again DMax might be as thick as double overlapped film protectors.
For those looking at a good protector here is the link for what I am using. Installs with ease, no bubbles and halos.
