Tab S 8.4 still worth buying? - Galaxy Tab S General

I've current got an LG G-Pad GPe, and I'm finding its 16GBs of storage really cramped. My comic book library through Comixology doesn't support external storage.
Best Buy US sells a 32GB Tab S 8.4, is that worth buying at this point? I've gone hands on with it a couple times on the display models, and that screen is simply beautiful. Not a fan of the physical button though. And on the display model, even after using the task manager to kill all, the thing still had 2.5GBs of its 3GBs of RAM in use. Is that normal for you guys? I am uncertain where I'd root/rom it, but I would be disabling swaths of Samsung apps and probably using Nova Launcher. Does the official Lollipop ota scale back the TouchWiz UI?
Or should I just say screw it and wait for the refresh? My Google-fu only turned up a few vague references to this summer though.

I actually bought a tab s 8.4 a couple weeks ago. After evaluating the n9, I realized this was what fit my needs best. I absolutely love it. Yes, I needed to root it to remove some bloat and optimize it a little, but no, I don't have any regrets about my purchase.
Although I don't believe that best buy sells a 32gb version of the 8.4, only the 10.5. Then again, I knew I'd be buying a micro sd card anyways. So now I have 64 + 10 gb internally.
The tablet itself is a pleasure to use and if the other Samsung lollipop updates are any indication, this thing will fly on it. I'm afraid that a few years from now it will not be updated, but if it runs like this for the next few years, I'd be more than happy.
As for pricing, I got mine during a brief sale on buydig where the price dropped to $260 or so. Prices are going down but that doesn't mean it's not a terrific tablet. Hope this helps!
Lastly, your post belongs in Q&A, not general, per xda rules.

They sell a 32GB version of the 8.4, I've checked.

Free ram is wasted ram. On a display model people have been trying lots of different apps and it is good that these have been cached into RAM. That means they can load quickly when you need to open them again. No sense in having 3gb sitting around doing nothing. Android is smart enough to release the ram when you need it for something else.

Awesome! Didn't know that. No problem! Glad to help. Also, regarding ram, the above is correct as well. Demo units are just that. After debloating, I have 1.5-2.5gb as the ranges I've seen in the built in task manager. I do clear all apps in recent apps occasionally, which I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

Most of the time, I wholeheartedly agree. I just get concerned with all a devices RAM is used on a fresh boot.
I just don't want to have buyers remorse in a month, if Samsung releases a refreshed Tab S line with 14nm silicon in it.

Only comes in Bronze though, and its on a small sale right now. 350 USD, usually its 399. Yeah, I know it says regular 449 on the page, but I've seen it multiple times on the Samsung display islands.

I think 449 is correct regular price for the 32gb model. 399 regular price is for 16gb. 16 gb was on sale for 299!

Totally worth it. I got mine a month or so back and one of the reasons was for manga and graphic novel enjoyment. I use Perfect Viewer for my .cbr and .pdf reading - crisp and very readable text on the screen, plus you can have your library on the external SD. Size and acceptable weight in one hand is perfect for reading. I'm on stock firmware, rooted with some Xposed mods here and there. No issues with it so far. I wish the battery would last longer (maybe 1 or 2 hours longer would be perfect for my usage) but I accept that as a consequence of powering a screen this size and resolution.

Probably. I ended up burning some of my stockpiled BB cards and got the 32GB model for 355 with local taxes and in store pick up.

This is my usage as well, though primarily through Comixology. Plenty of their content does have DRM-free PDF and CBR versions though, if I was so inclined to grab them. Probably should for some of the larger series I own.

I have the 32GB model and rooted it on day one then flashed Cyanogenmod.
I use Perfect Viewer for my comic / graphic novel needs and it works great!
You should be able to enjoy comics with Comixology with the lovely screen.
At home, my brightness level is only about 1/56 and it's a beauty to read comics on.
I was thinking of getting the 10.1 version but it was too big for my messenger bag that also houses
my Asus Ultrabook laptop.
You could wait for a couple of months more as the new line of tablets for Samsung will push the price of the Tab S 8.4 lower.
To answer your question, I think, yes it's still worth buying.

One serious problem with the current Tab S generation is the relatively weak CPU/GPU performance. If you read the reviews of Samsung Tab S, NVidia Shield, and Nexus 9 over at anandtech, you see that their benchmark scores of the Tab S look pretty modest relative to practically all big players on the market. This doesn't mean that the tablet always crawls slowly, but considering the pace of the continuous bloating of the operating systems and the web sites, I expect the Tab S to become outdated much sooner than say the Nexus 9. The Tab S should work fine for playing HD videos, ebooks, and most other applications. The screen is beautiful, but the responsiveness can bog down on some truly bloated web sites. Installing Ad Block can help.
It's an EPIC fail that the Google Nexus 9 comes with no sd card slot, but if you can live with only 32GB of storage, get the Nexus 9 IMO or perhaps take a look at Nvidia Shield. This week Best Buy announced $75 off on all Nexus 9 models. If you do get the Tab S, you can get the 16GB model, and then add a 64GB/128GB sd card for a small price (I got my 64GB for $30 on amazon).

I would personally wait for the refresh. I like my Tab S a lot, but its performance is indeed a bit underwhelming. It stutters on very high quality HD videos that my freaking Note 3 has no problems playing.

Samsung might have saved some money by using their own Exynos processor instead of Qualcomm in the Tab S (except for an LTE model or two). Maybe thats their standard practice in tablets, and international models? This did make me hesitate buying it but I ended up loving it anyway. But yeah my Note 4 with the Qualcomm 805 does feel snappier and such.

I think it is worth it. I just picked up one of these today for $80 bucks on Craigslist for my parents. I love it so far, the screen is absolutely gorgeous and it is so easy to hold. The only problem is that text may be too small for my parents to read. I might end up flipping this one and getting a larger iPad Air 2 or Tab S 10.5. I think the next generation of this device is going to be spectacular considering what Samsung has done with the GS6 and GS6E. This needs the updated Exynos 7420 and slimmed down TouchWiz.

Wow, $80! What condition is it in? Good going lol. I know what you mean about the text size tho.... that's one gripe I have, is that bigger devices often have even SMALLER text!! The print on my Note 4 is bigger than on this. But luckily I can root, install xposed, and use the App Settings module to adjust it. Still it isn't as good as if it were fully scaled properly to the screen size. .

It's a great little tablet if you can pick it up on a sale or with unused gift cards for under $300. I rarely shop at Best Buy so the fact I had a couple laying around and an older phone sitting in a drawer they gave me $50 for got me to $255 for a new 32gb model. My company provides AT&T data cards so I have that going as a bonus as well.
It's not the speediest and Touchwiz is Touchwiz, just as Samsung is Samsung, but for a nice little travelling media device it's great, the screen is fantastic, good size too, and it's very light. It's the perfect train/hotel companion if that's what you want it for, like me. I was using my N6 for everything and granted the screen on that is a decent size and looks good but this is better for watching movies or reading, and not all that heavier either.
I wouldn't have paid $450 for it, the original asking price, and even $350 might have made me pause a little, but a couple dusty gift cards and and even dustier iPhone 4s that took forever to charge just so I could make sure it was wiped and we were at $255 which is a nice price brand new for this, at 32gb. Put my 128gb in it, Plex on it, and I'm off.
Need to root it now to get rid of some bloat and put an ad blocker in place.

[Q] Is P1000 still worth buying TODAY?

I'm looking for a Tab, but Transformer seems to big for me. P1000 is the perfect size, but it is pretty old device. Is it still worth buying today?
Thanks.
If you think 7" tablet is a perfect size for you then why not, the Galaxy tab is only 1 year old and it still stands against any other alternatives out in the market today.
I would hardly say just because the tablet is "pretty old" that it isn't a good purchase. It's well supported by developers and the fact that people are still purchasing it... Its a solid working and built piece of kit.
You won't be disappointed.
I would say that they are definitely still worth it. The price point alone is a great reason. You can get a Galaxy tablet for less than half the price of many of the newest tabs.
It's already been shown that these models are capable of running the new firmwares. There are ports of Honeycomb out there already, and though there are still some issues to be ironed out, they work pretty well. Since installing a 2.3.4 rom on my vzw tab, I've been very impressed with how responsive and cleanly it runs.
Having handled some of the newer and larger tablets, I've found that the smaller size is really more ideal to me personally. I can fit my Galaxy tablet in my pocket. My folks for example both have iPads, and they are just much larger and bulkier devices. You can't drop one in your pocket real quick while you are out on the run.
Anyway, hope that helps!

I live in eastern europe and here the tab's price is almost the same as Transformer's. And that one has Tegra 2 and a nice 10.1' IPS display. They are both here 540 USD / 380 EUR. I tried Iconia A500 Tab, but I was quite disappointed - it was very heavy, typing text while trying to hold with one hand was challenging. The OS and that big display sure looks great, but for now I can't see my self taking this out in the street while walking, or chatting (IM) while sitting in the bus on my way college. How much is the P1000 in the US? Or UK?

In the UK, the P1000 (if you can find any in stock) still goes for around £399 and the P1010 is currently in bestbuy/currys for £299.
But search on ebay or other sites, you can find one for a lot cheaper. I got mine brand new from ebay for £250 (P1000).
Of course, these will probably fall in price when newer alternatives comes out but for now, they are holding its value as they are still popular and people are buying them.
I just bought one today. So far I am happy with it.
I have seen the US models selling new for between $150-200 when you buy from a mobile provider. For example, I know Verizon was selling them earlier this year for $200 when you agreed to a two year service agreement. I've also seen the WiFi only tablets for $350. Personally, I was willing to sign a contract, because having the 3g data access was something I desired.
But, I would do as one of the other posters suggested, and check ebay. As I understand it, you can buy a US model and put a European firmware on it. I would double check that though, as I don't want to tell you something I am not entirely sure of.
Got mine a month ago in aussie land, on a 12 month contract. 0 dollars for the tab and $39 a month for the plan with 8g of data and I get 3 months of the plan for free. Was really happy with that price.
Got mine in Italy for 300 Eur. Best purchase of the year: perfect balance between pocketability and readability, and with Gingerbread it is lag free and quick.
Rumours are that Samsung is going to present a revamped 7" tablet w/ upgraded cpu and amoled screen. I won't upgrade unless it has usb host or otg, which is the feature I miss much on my Tab.

Nothing wrong with the P1000. Good support is important. Even if it's a year old it still beats an ipad. Good resolution and speed, and very complete. Very sturdy, durable Gorilla glass.

I bought mine last month, and I love it. My pocket is not that big to fit in the tab, so I bought a small bag to bring around. I was confused whether buying Galaxy S (for super amoled and small factor) or Galaxy Tab (for bigger screen to read ebooks). Well, its worth buying
I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and am very happy so far. Yes, it's a year old - but the screen is very good (much better than alternative 7" tablets'), it's relatively cheap & there's lots of development going on with it.
The next 7" from Samsung is set to have an AMOLED screen & will probably be dual-core, which will be awesome, but I wanted something now & wasn't prepared to 1) wait & 2) pay much more than I did...
Make sure you root & stick Overcome ROM on it! It becomes a different animal once you do!
Got an Asus Transformer for the home/travel, but day to day chucking in pocket (albeit large pockets), still love the Tab. Got it for 200bucks so can't complain.
If I had to pay full price? I think I'd skip, for that price a newer 7" tablet would still be preferred.
Main thing it comes down to though is where are you, and do you need voice? if so, Tab might still be perfect for you.
It's a good question to ask here, as the answer isn't obvious. Without a tablet, I would, if I had the cash, get the Tab again. It's portability still makes it a winner for me.
Waiting for the next model is ok, but... these things always seem to take 6months longer than initially planned it appears.
Thee galaxy pad still a good tab/phone. its fast, not to big and have a lot of apps/games that works so...
Galaxy tab worth to buy.why?
The best tablet for 7 inch tablet.
Equiped with microsd, simcard for mms,sms,3g and telephone
the best size to carry around even easily beat ipad
Development of Custom rom and stock rom are always up to date
unless samsung release new 7 inch tablet with dual core processor and amoled sceen
then it is not worthy anymore to purchase
When I got the P1000, my standard in speed and responsiveness on android began to change. I began to compare the Qualcomm chipset based androids vs. the Hummingbird of Samsung. The P1000 (and the original Galaxy S Plus which runs the same thing) is really good and even better can match the next gen Qualcomm. See how the original Galaxy S graphics even beats the Galaxy S Plus (newer release), is because of the same speedy setup done before.
The P1000 is a very good device. Really crazy why Samsung shortchanged many unknowing people as they downgraded the P1010 with an inferior chipset and graphics.
Is there already a dual core 7" as good as the P1000? The Dell Streak 7 besides abit more massive has a problem with batt life. Archos I didn't bother to consider. Is there anymore? The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is coming out better (dunno when), but it is not 7". Nothing compares that I know... for now.
I've only had mine for about a week, I bought it second hand for a great price and I love it so far. I use it more than my laptop and my Asus Transformer. I LOVE the size. The 10" tabs you pretty much need to use both hand to hold it all the time, the G.Tab easily in 1. Plus being able to type with both thumbs instead of finger pecking is a HUGE plus.
Yeah, the Galaxy Seven will probably be out in a couple months but if you need one now then it's a great little tab.
I was at the shop today again, played with XOOM and again with Galaxy Tab. Damn its size is just perfect and the screen so detailed and feels high quality. But then I tried to do what I do on My N900 (Maemo 5 OS), and WOW :O IT CAN NOT MULTITASK. I never noticed that! You can not have skype online and browse the web while listening to music. I asked the guy at the shop. He confirmed, just some can "run in the background" but there is no task switcher... Maybe you can make it multitask? On iOS i have backgrounder and Kirikae and it works like a charm, can you do the same on android?
Skype online while browsing the web and listening to music? won't the sound conflict?

I have been conflicted about the decision ASUS/Google made to omit a HDMI port & microSD slot on the N7. I feel the need to get a 7" android tablet but I am wondering if I should try this XO Vision 7'' Tablet For $99 to hold me over until someone makes a more fully featured 7" inch tablet, or just go with the Nexus 7 and make due with whatever workaround solutions I can find.
I am hoping that someone will come out with a tablet with the the same specs as the Nexus 7 with the added features of expandable storage and HDMI out. If they do this in the near future, I could then give this cheaper tablet to a family member as a gift and upgrade to whatever this new device is and not feel like I was missing out.
This budget tablet has pretty decent specs for the money except for the low resolution screen. I think if it had a better screen I wouldn't even hesitate.
Anyone have opinions either way?
All you asked for is an opinion, not facts. So here goes:
If you buy a $99 tablet, you will regret it. It will not be something to get you by, it will be something to throw at a wall.
There. That is my opinion.
Meh. The specs are OKAY. The low resolution screen kinda sucks (800x400). Personally i wouldn't trade the Nexus 7's support str8 from google, latest OS updates, the great rom/kernel development that I'm sure will come in the next few weeks/months for this tablet.
If HDMI and SD card support is that important to you then....
i get the feeling there are chinese tablets out there for similar price with better specs. The problem is finding them.
I like it. And yes, the problem is that you asked for an opinion, as opposed to any analysis.
Get the Nexus 7. Sure, other devices are going to come out with expandable storage, but this is a Nexus device. Everyone who waits for one and doesn't get it because it doesn't have X feature ends up wanting one in the long run anyway. This happened to me with the Galaxy Nexus. I decided to not wait any longer and bought the S II. I love my S II, but I would rather have the Nexus right now.
Either way, the $100 you spend on that tablet would be a waste. The low screen resolution would be enough to turn me away from it. The resolution on my S II (which is AMOLED, so not a fair comparison) is higher than that and it's almost three inches smaller. Imagine how horrible it would look on a 7" tablet. I mean, the Nook Color has a better screen and that one looks grainy to me at this point.
Ok, Ok, I may have made a mistake by asking for opinions, but I was hoping they'd be constructive opinions. And keep in mind this tablet would only be to hold me over for a couple of months until a more PREMIUM option comes along with BETTER specs than the N7. I would have easily paid $300 for an 8gig N7 if it had the extra features I want. I have a 16 gig N7 on order which will cost me 286.33 anyway if I don't cancel. If I get this other tablet I wouldn't have to wait any more either.
Any analysis would be appreciated by the way.
To get you by, I highly recommend buying the Nexus 7 (of course) or a Fire or a Nook.
Use it to see if you like it or until something better comes along.
If you choose the Nexus 7, at least it will hold its value and you won't lose much on resale.
Fire and Nook values may resemble the residential housing market.
I was not kidding about the usability of $99 tablets. A lot of EBay specs look good too.

Well If you want something to hold you over for a few months until you find what you want, you should probably go with the Nexus 7 and sell it on ebay when you find what you want. It will have much better resale then the XO and it will be a much more satisfying user experience.
Chances are the Nexus 7 will end up costing you the same in the long run as the XO once you take into account resale so you not really wasting anything and get a better system until the time you upgrade.

The problem isn't the anemic hardware, but the crappy software. You'd want one with good community support. Right now, that's the KF. NC has good support too, but it's two gens old and a bit too slow.
Would suggest a used KF for around $100. Geeks are dumping it in favor of the new flavor. If you want mainly a good e-reader, suggest NC for $50-70. Both of course have ample support here. Set a search bot for CL listing in your area.

Now this is what I'm looking for. I am looking for something with at least ICS on it though. And as these three are all in the same price category I'd definitely go with the N7 out of these for the OS alone. Do you really think resale of the N7 will be a viable option? I guess if I just knock up to $100 of what I paid, I could sell it and I'd be in that same situation as if I blew $100 on the XO tablet.

Chances are the Nexus 7 will end up costing you the same in the long run as the XO once you take into account resale so you not really wasting anything and get a better system until the time you upgrade.

I guess I have to kind of agree. Hadn't really thought about reselling as I hate selling things. But I am begining to believe this is probably the best course of action.

The day of the Google I/O keynote when they announced the Nexus 7 I almost did just that. I am still thinking about that option as well. The only reason I haven't done it is, I am left to wonder when/if it will ever receive the 4.1 update to JB. If I knew it was coming soon I think I'd be better off with this tablet for what want in a 7" tablet.
Is this thread about making an edgy decision for you? Seems you had your mind made up but wanted others to confirm and give you extra reasons to side with the N7

Agree with this guy. You sound like you want 4.1, it's going to be a while before any other tablet gets that.
And the other guys above are right in the fact that N7 will hold it's value well. Go with the N7 and forget that piece of crap XO, you will regret the XO. It might even turn you off of tablets completely.
Get N7 and be done with it.
Then just resell it if something better comes along. And hey... if nothing better comes along... guess what, you've got the best tablet available at this price!
I'm personally planning to do exactly what I and others are suggesting to you as well.
I'm ordering an N7, but I, like you, would really like the HDMI out, so we'll see what Acer comes out with with their a110, and we'll see what other companies come out with as well and I'll look into video out workarounds in the mean time, perhaps we'll find a suitable work around and get to keep our super sexy HD screens and the latest versions of Android (including all future updates they day the are released rather than waiting months for other companies to implement updates - if ever).
Rock yourself an N7 my friend... just do it, stop hesitating, you'll thank us all later.
(not sure if I should even add this part to not confuse you even further but - if for some reason you're set on getting a cheap junk Chinese tablet to save a dollar though there's a lot better options than the XO Vision, keep in mind they're all still junk though, I'd say look at something like this instead: Ramos W6HD or perhaps Ainol NOVO Mars - I still say go with the N7 though, you'll be a lot happier in the long run)

OK. Done. I am taking your guy's advice. But first, I'll back up a bit. I have a 64G LTE iPad. It has become my main device, I love the battery life & instant on features the most. I am completely sold on tablets. However the entire time I've owned the iPad, Android guys were telling/showing how easy it was to just stick in a microSD card full of movies & watch them or download something from the web on their tablet, pull out the MicroSD card stick it in a USB adapter & transfer files to any other computer. I've longed for those features as Apple has denied them to me as they must not think I can handle it. I have also come to the conclusion that I'd like a smaller, lighter, more portable device to carry everywhere that didn't cost me $900 like my iPad+smart-cover. So, for a LONG-TERM 7" android tablet at a MINIMUM, I'd like Buttery smooth (iPad-like) Jelly Bean, on at least a dual-core 1+ Ghz tablet, 1+ GB ram, with screen res of AT LEAST 1024x600, and it should have MicroSD & HDMI out, along with 9-10 battery life for being online. That's what I'd like in a LONG-TERM 7" android device. Any more would be a bonus. But I have decided to settle for the Nexus 7 until someone comes along with my Dream Tablet, and then I'll knock off $100 of the $286.33 I will have paid and use the remaining balance toward whatever the Nexus 7 killer is.
I think Android could possibly be better than iOS with this new Jelly Bean version but only if combined with hardware that takes advantage of all of its capabilities. I think Google/Asus hit a home run with the Nexus 7 but they could have easily made it a GRAND SLAM.

Will We Get A 32gb Nexus 4?

Hello All
Right now I am disappointed at Google. I have been wanting a pure Nexus device with 32gb.
Third year in a row we do not get a 32gb Nexus phone.
Why did Google release 32gb in the Nexus 7 and 10 devices and not the Nexus 4?
I understand what they are doing with price points and 8gb/16gb, No LTE etc but there still should be a 32gb option. Not everyone wants the cloud or to stream. I want my phone to replace my MP3 player.
There are no options if you want SPACE and PURE Google.
Will we get one in the very near future? Do other users want 32gb?
Cheers

Two years is a long time in technology. Space requirements are increasing. I have two games on my GNex that are 1gb each. You cannot store music, movies/video and games on your phone with only 16gb of space.
Such a high specced phone crippled by lack of space.
Apple released 32gb and 64gb even.

Give me $399 with 32gb then. I am disappointed because I cannot see the value in a higher specced phone without the space needed to take advantage of it over my Galaxy Nexus.

Thank you, I also agree. 16GB (more like 11GB or so formatted) is nowhere near enough space for my needs. I understand that not everybody needs 32GB, but couldn't they have at least installed a MicroSD card slot? I mean jeez, memory is the only constraint on this phone.

Yeah, I know. My S3 i9300 already does this. Bonus is that it also supports a wireless mouse and keyboard if you plug the USB receiver into the cable. But why would I wanna stick a cable and flash drive into my phone (which by the way, draws power from the phone)? It'll be highly uncomfortable in the pocket when listening to music. Maybe if you have a lot of movies, since you'll have the phone out on the desk or something, but not for something on-the-go.
Google clearly put that Snapdragon S4 Pro in there for gamers; I realize this is a development device, but damn Google, then why would you bother to market it to regular consumers? Games + ROM Backups + ROM and Kernel zips + Music + Movies + Photos = FULL storage. Flash storage is extremely cheap these days. I'm sure a MicroSD card slot is even cheaper to implement. I would've paid a little more for expandable storage.
Don't buy the phone then. Easy as that.

I'm really curious on what people specifically fill up their phones with. Do you literally take your _entire_ music and movie collection and stuff it on your phone? Do you watch and listen to everything you have on your phone? I understand the availability aspect of it, but, do you guys have all the time in the world to listen and use what is stored on your phone?
I think the reason why there is only a 16GB model is the fact that there is the cloud and they wanted to hit a certain price point with very little models. Yeah, I know that coverage isn't 100%. But still, I have the 16GB GNex and it is at about 50-60%% capacity. I have a few games, some albums, some mixes, maybe a movie or two and I find myself using Tune-in radio and the google music app to stream stuff.
It doesn't take a lot of time, maybe a few minuets to swap out an album or a movie. Also, there are options when you turn your phone's USB port into a USB host.
Anyways, my two cents on this whole, no 32GB/sd slot issue. Maybe they might release a 32GB model later or the tech will be at the right _price_ point to offer that option.

I would think that it does due to the fact that there is more physical space to put that kind of memory in the tablet.
The smaller the memory, the more expensive the cost. I'm sure people would gladly pay more for more space. However, from a manufacturing and price point of view, it was an option that had to be taken out.
I think $299 for a top (almost?) of the line phone is pretty awesome.

Agree..completely useless comments. Phones are sold as smart devices capable of many things...so don't fing go back in time and limit our storage this limiting how much we can do with it. Going backwards is never a good idea.

I'd buy a 32GB for $400. Still cheaper than the $575 I paid for the S3 i9300. And if I sold my S3, it'd cover the costs. Hell, I would've paid $400 if they said "The $400 model still has 16GB, but it also has a MicroSD card slot".
And cloud storage, yeah I get that; but the issues with that are:
1. You don't have signal everywhere.
2. For a non-LTE phone, it'll take forever to stream large files.
3. We don't have real unlimited data anymore on the big networks, and data plans are extremely expensive. (except on T-Mobile; Sprint's 3G is useless).
4. Streaming eats your battery like there's no tomorrow.
Flash storage is EXTREMELY cheap. A MicroSD card slot probably would've been even cheaper to implement. Apple price-gouges on iPhone storage (+$100 for double the storage). Don't believe those prices. The costs are marginal.
As for what I use my phone for? This is what's on my phone storage (not MicroSD). I just redid my phone. I still haven't downloaded about 3 or 4 games that are ~1GB or more each. This picture says I have 7GB left, not counting those 3 or 4GB for games and the 17GB I used on my card. Let's say I was able to clear out half of that 17GB and I don't install those games because they were too big and I don't need them. I'd still have 1.5GB (8.5GB) more files than I have space. I only have like 300 songs on my phone too:

I think this is the first post in this forum.
Definitely would like at least 32 GB. Leaning more towards the 8.4". We have a 10" tablet, and it is just too big to use one handed. And by use, I mean hold.
The weight of both tablet is relatively low. The AMOLED screen makes for a thin tablet. The ahead-of-its-time GT-P6800 7.7 tablet is amazingly thin and solid. It's still a good tablet for media playing and web surfing.
I just pre ordered the 10.5 32gb version from Best buy, I wonder how they pulled the exclusive with the 32gb. I'm in the process of putting some sample files on a flash drive to test on one of the display models. Best buy also has the bronze and white book covers for 39.99 rather than 69.99. Glad I decided to wait for the release and didn't open my Note Pro, it's already on it's way back to Samsung.
Edit: So I went and tested two video files at the local Best Buy, Pacific Rim 1080p 12gb mkv high encoding 19 quality and Timescapes mp4 2560x1440. The picture on this tablet is amazing especially the nature scenes in the Timescapes file. The stock player was able to player both files with no skips or jitters.
I pre ordered the 8.4 from Future Shop (Canada). I am keeping my Note Pro 12.2 as my home unit, the 8.4 as my traveler (Read in bed) and Nexus 5 as my phone. I have no problems with a 16 gig unit. I used the savings and bought a 64 gig microsd. After being burned by Samsung in the past ie.. software updates and coming from a Nexus background I was hesitant to purchase the 12.2 but I have to admit that it has been a nice experience. The first tablet I haven't bothered to root. I think the 8.4 will be even better. Of course I will be keeping my eyes on this year's Google IO conference just in case they mythical Google 8 is announced. I just need to find a case and glass screen protector.
I am really tempted by this new tab
Especially since I sold my Nexus 7 2013 FHD, I really would like to replace that with the new 8.4 Tab S. I miss reading books and browsing the web on my couch or bed. I don't really care for the aesthetics mainly due to the placement of the buttons, it's just weird having the phone layout of buttons on a huge tablet, I prefer to have them on the sides of the device. Not a deal breaker though. I'm just torn on whether to buy this 8.4 through amazon as I have a gift card there for 300 bucks or save a little more and wait for the new Nexus 8 or Nexus 10 if they ever announce them. I have a galaxy note 3 and being a phablet I thought it would be sufficient enough in size to not miss my nexus 7 but I was wrong. The one thing I hate about Samsung is the bloatware and difficulty in rooting the device due to knox and voiding the warranty. I'd prefer to wait for a tablet using either the tegra 4 K1(32 bit) chip or the tegra k1 (64 bit) chip because the games on it would be fabulous, but like I said I am just itching to replace my tablet I dearly miss and this samsung galaxy tab S looks very promising...Woe me
for some reason the smartwatches here in bahrain and saudi are more expensive than in the US but the phones and phablets are cheaper, wonder which range this tab s prices will be here

Noticed BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples in Canada all bumped their dates back to July 4th right away. Was saying June 26 for the first day or two. Amazon still says June 26.
I wonder if it will get bumped again. I've had horrible experience ordering online from bestbuy and futureshop. I'd try staples next if they had the free cover offer too.

I started my tablet buying addiction with Chinese tablets - lol. I have owned a number of Chinese tablets , TV sticks and TV boxes. My advice is to save yourself a lot of grief and buy a name brand tablet from a recognized retailer. There are a number of issues to consider. 1) The RK3288 looks like a good chip but Rockchip is notorious for producing buggy versions of Android. I know I currently own two Rockchip devices and if it wasn't for a dedicated user base debugging and producing custom ROM's, the devices would be useless. 2) If your tablet has a hardware defect you would have to ship it all the way back to China - usually at your own expense. It could take months to get it sorted out. 3) Chinese manufacturers tend not to support devices once they are originally released and since these Chinese tablets don't usually appear on XDA you are left on your own. 4) Many Chinese Companies quickly disappear for no notice. 5) You'll be kicking yourself for not spending that extra money for that great Tab S display.
If you do by Chinese then Geekbuying is a reliable place. They have always been good to me.
Hope this help,
D

Staples.ca is offering the Black one only for free. Not selectable. Go figure.
I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It's really nice and I actually like the S-Pen more than I thought I would... however, I'm thinking of returning it to get a Tab S instead.
From what I see, the specs are really close between the two tablets. Main differences appear to be the AMOLED screen and slightly thinner/lighter Tab S ... but then I lose the S-Pen. Both AMOLED and scLCD screens seem to perform nicely, so that's a matter of preference I guess. I have a Galaxy S5 and the scLCD on the Note side-by-side to my S5 AMOLED screen looks pretty close.
Thoughts? Do you think the Tab S will be that much better than something like the Note 2014?

so i have the 10.1 Pro and obviously since it came out not long ago i had a hard time buying another already. my reason for getting the S now was simply
1. side located USB port - the bottom on the 10.1 Pro was never convenient for peripherals etc while trying to use the tablet
2. 3GB Ram - i see my Note 3 use more than 2GB often and i know that 3GB Ram will help in overall experience
3. 32GB storage - at BB they have the 32GB version but only in Gold (bronze whatever) and with current limited access for a lot of stuff to the external SD i wanted more room even with root and fix out there
3a. screen size and crisp - this wasnt a big deciding factor for me but may have helped my decision
the problem is i really am a Black device guy and this Gold just may be too much for me top handle. i have 45 days at BB with my rewards level to return and if white happens to come out i may exchange for my first white device ever.
this describes my feeling on the gold look perfectly:
Give it a chance, it may grow on you. Personally I love the titanium bronze combo and like you also bought the 32GB version at BB, My Note 3 is white and my Note 10.1 from 2012 was also white so I didn't want to get again this color. I still love my white Note 3 but this was definitely a nice change for me.
How you liking everything else about the tablet?

well i have had the 10.1 for some time now and they are similar but the Tab S is definitely better in a few ways. the 10.1 has KK much like the Note 3 and the Tab S KK is like the S5 which has more features and seems to run smoother. i actually run a full ported S5 rom on my Note 3 for these advantages.
i have only had it less than 24 hours and so curious to see if what i am experiencing with a much smoother run on the Tab S is because it is new and hasnt had a little time to slow down from all the stuff i have added and tweaked or if it will maintain running better the 10.1
what i sadly saw with the 10.1 was ZERO custom stuff like a built exclusively for keyboard case so i had to use a Universal 10" case which really hurt the overall feeling using it. i went with the Logitech Tab S over the Samsung Tab S keyboard because of design and added protection and it has been great and much nicer to use than a universal.
so far so good and i feel the 10.1 will fade behind on a lot of stuff and the Tab S will stay a front runner with more things coming so glad i moved over.
Good post. I've seen the same things as you when comparing the note 10.1 and the new TAB S. Over a week now and it's still running smoother with more zip than the note 10.1 ever did. It was and is a great tablet especially with the S-Pen but no doubt for me so far, this one is running smoother. I still can't get over the beautiful screen either. We all get used to everything but it still amazes me. That's the one knock I had the first Note 10.1, the resolution. If not for that I may not have sold it.

good point and the 1ST thing i noticed was the resolution over the 10.1 and should have mentioned that. the screen space is much better but i still wish i could have eom column and row count support without having to use a 3rd party launcher which i just dont like doing.
i also really like the Hancom widget page and find that whole suite very useful but the Magazine stuff can GO
Doesn't the dazzling white have gold trim as well?

I keep it in the Logitech Tab S keyboard case which is super lean and shows most of the tablet. Its not the end of the world and gets it done for sure so i bought it gold or not. Just having some fun and like any other electronic thing i own it wont be with me for long.
I bought this and love it...no more bronze

Nice!!!
I have the stock black cover and it completely covers my white backing, so I thought that would be a good option for you.
I like the Black/Gold combo on my Tab S, and I also had to go with the 32gb version!.
Although mine is wrapped in the official book case so... I have a gold S5 on the way too lol
They say all these tabs have the same specs but KK runs much better on Tab S then my previous Note 2014.
Which was White!

the Note 2104 and the Pro line have 2 things i see causing the main difference
1. they only have 2 GB ram where we have 3GB
2. they are running an older less up to date version of TW

I also considered the note 12.2 mostly because of the S-pen. I use it some on my note 3 and figured it would come in handy with such a large screen. I still do! Ive had my Tab S 10.5 for over a week and Im still liking it. I went ahead and bought the Galaxy Tab s keyboard which adds a whole new way to use this thing. Its really pretty cool! If it had a mouse pad that would seal it. I have 45 days to return all of this so..... I still may.... but, right now, Im leaning towards keeping this as my main tablet/netbook (with the keyboard).

If you get the Samsung Mouse S it makes a pleasure to use and has all your reasons you touch the screen built into the left right scroll and bottom side clicks. Its pricey and I had some BB dollars to spend but having it now I would buy it even if I didn't have the reward dollars.

At least you can get the 32gb version. Once again the Canadian market gets the shaft and they only make the 16gb version available here. I don't know why companies do this, but it's not the first time that a 32gb version of an android tablet was held back from retailers here.
