(I don't have the time to write all instructions at once so please be patient, I'll update this post during the day.)
[My english is very rusty. If you want to suggest improvements and corrections drop me a PM]
If you want your zenfone 2 to look the same as mine you have to change a significant amount of things.
Some changes requires root or particular extensions but nothing is mandatory and you may decide to follow only some steps of my instructions.
From what I've read and from my experience steps 1-2-3-4-5-6 will not have any significant impact on battery life or performance while steps 7-8-9 (which are related not only to appearance) should improve your battery life.
So....assuming that you begin with your stock Asus Theme....let's start!
1.Set Wallpaper
Wallpaper Link (credits to TOBIAS ROETSCH)
In order to simplify the process, I suggest to apply it from the Asus Homescreen>>Long tap on empty space >> wallpaper >> Home and lockscreen.
PS As you can see in my screenshots, my wallpaper is slightly different from the one available on the link and this is because I've added a little of stars on top and a little of dark on the bottom. I'm not posting my version because I'm waiting for the authorization of the autor but my work is only a little of raw copy and paste...
2.Change DPI
This smartphone has a beautiful and wide screen but the icons and the status bar were way too big for me...it looked like a toy with big buttons and magnified textboxes..
First install ADB (there are plenty of installing guide on the net. If you don't have time to read all that stuffs I've found an installer here on XDA but I didn't tried it before, let me know if it works good ADB installer link).
Then follow this guide and change DPI (it uses ADB): http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/tip-adjusting-dpi-root-t3098690
I suggest to try with DPI between 360 and 400 (default is around 480). Mine is 380.
Give it a try, for me this is the most important change for a better aspect of our Zenfone. If you are not happy it is completely and easily reversible as explained in the second guide.
PS Be aware that a few apps show some strange behavior with custom DPI. Known issues:
-some third party keyboards show bigger and unusable keys [The stock Android and Asus keyboards work fine]
-Whatsapp cannot cut images before sending it [but I cut them before with the editor of the gallery].
3.CHANGE LAUNCHER
You can also continue without substituting launcher but then you will not be able neither to change all your icons nor to perfectly stretch your widgets.
I didn't want to change launcher but in the end I was forced to install an otherone for 2 main reasons:
- with the stock launcher you are not allowed to change all icons (even with the preinstalled Asus app).
- with the stock launcher you cannot manage the grid of homescreen where you put widgets
I've installed Nova Launcher.
4.ICON PACK
The icon pack I'm using is called "flight" (or "Volo") and it's available on the play store.
I've bought the complete version but the free version does perfectly its job.
Apply the theme and then manually change all the icons that were not automatically replaced (if the icon of your app is not available choose one you like from the hundreds of icons available).
PS I've used "flight icon pack" but there are a lot of black and white minimal icon pack available on the play store....just look for "black and white icon pack" or similar.
Just some hints:
- white icons whit round background >> "Gel - Icon Pack"
- minimal white icons >> "Min - Icon Pack"
[coming soon]
5.WIDGETS
First screen: no widget, only icons.
Second screen: Jack's music widget. (I've tried Universal Music Widget but it crashes all the time)
Third screen: Stock Asus Meteo Widget
Forth screen: Simple Calendar Widget (it is fully customizable and I'm working to get an even better look.)
Fifth screen: no widget, only icons.
If you have patience and time and want to produce similar widgets you will also like "zooper" or "minimalistic text" (available on the play store).
[coming soon]
6.ORGANIZATION
[coming soon]
7.[root required]EXTENSIONS
I've used extensions to:
-remove battery icon from statusbar
-add network speed information on statusbar
-add seconds to the clock on the statusbar
-add a download bar integrated on top of the statusbar
-add useful buttons and features to the power menu
-improve battery performance
[coming soon]
8.[root required]GESTURES
With the use of a third party launcher you will loose the double tap to sleep feature but not the double tap to wake.
I've used third party gestures software in order to restore this features and add other useful gestures.
[coming soon]
9.OTHER
-change whatsapp background with this one (open a chat in WA and then options>>background)

Please, post link of theme. I like it.

nice theme

Ok!
It's not a "real theme" because I've modified dpi, changed the aspect of the status bar and other things that one cannot change with a simple "theme".
I'm going to edit my first post and add instructions. Follow all the steps and you will get the same results.

Double tap
Do you lose the double tap wake/sleep functions when you use another launcher?

yes den u need to use status bar to make it sleep

The double tap to wake is always available.
The double tap to sleep can be restored using Nova Launcher itself (double tap on status bar or double tap on home button if associated to greenify) or any other gestures third party app. However I'll write down all the different workarounds I've found...

I've seen 2 interesting xposed modules that can change the icons and the grid on home.
I'm going to test them. If they work there is no need to change the stock launcher.

KustHome : a new skinnable home

Hello all.
I come to present
my latest homescreen for Android: KustHome
KustHome is actually very inspired from the famous hs + + (formerly BatteryStatus) on Windows Mobile.
Basically you describe your desktop in an xml file that you put in
a folder with lots of PNG and you have the desktop of your dreams.
Catch below the bottom part (robot + hours+signal level, etc ...) is actually assembled from the XML.
(Images are declined in 3 colors to make 3 skins)
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You can place on the desktop:
- Images
- Gauges: images that change depending on :
- Battery
- The radio signal
- 3G
- The traffic data
- Wifi, bluetooth, etc. ...
- Text (which may change depending on time, to your own clock)
- A notification bar
I intend to add:
- Indicators of gmail, sms notification (for the nostalgic, because the widgets do that very well)
- Skinnable buttons to trigger actions chosen by the skinners
- A real clock to make the same as Sense (if a crazy skinner can make 60 images for the minutes)
In terms of functionality funs:
- coverflow desktop chooser
- coverflow running app chooser (without root)
Themes can be sent to me to be placed on the kusthome server.
For the beta everything is free. The software check on a server
if you have the right to change the theme, and download new.
Once finished the beta software will have a duration of 3 free days. Then only the default theme will be available.
(Practical for testing)
Then users must:
- Buy a paid version
or
- Have completed a theme
or
- Ask me to activate all options (a skinner who email a link with his work on other platforms will always have a free version)
PS : available only from Android 1.6 (and in beta so dont make it your default home screen to avoid brick your phone)
Hi,
I just downloaded this and think that its quite good. It has a lot of potential but there are a few a things that are wrong with it.
1- To get the the desktop thing (displaying all home screens) you have to go to menu, it would be much easier to be able to press one button (e.g. the select button)
2- People like to choose the number of home screens they have (I suggest 1-7)
3- I like the idea of having the notifications at the bottom, but this then makes it confusing with bringing down the bar at the top cause its not there and doesnt slide down properly
4- I cannot get used to the idea of not having a dock which is a major turn off for me
5- The Icons at the top... I'm not sure if they are meant to be switchers but if not then it would be a good idea to make them so, and maybe add some more things.
As I said it has alot of pottential but its not quite there yet, good work though =)
Thanx
Aaron
hi,
1 & 2 are planned.
you must click on the notification to open the bar (but yes they are too small)
a dock is planned
icons on top are not switchers because skinners can made small pictures and put them very closely. But skinnable switchers are planned.
You can use the search button to display the task switcher, but you are right : I will made an option to activate the desktop chooser if user wants.
love the way the screens are when the switcher is activated. maybe make it where the screen switcher is activated by a double tap or something simple like that. i will definitely keep an eye on this!!

And first I will make a GUI editor directly on the phone... I hope it will rocks !

yes 3 bugs:
- one if data are working when home launch (when i test I am on wifi and data download is too quick, on 3G I have the problem)
- one when moving some shortcuts (concurrent acces to database)
- one if home launch too slowly (not reproducted on my nexus under froyo...too quick) and events are throwed when screen not ready
an update will be published in few hours...
Tried with 1.6 rom and I didn't find kasthome in market, I also looked to the official website and I'm a little confused.
Can you clear this for me please:
For which version of android is and
Which resolutions supported?
I would like to test it and try to make a theme.
I could also make translation of the program if you're interested.

Sorry : kusthome was unpublished 1 july due to an enormous bug with the previous update. The widgets are inserted each time you run kusthome, so after 10 reboots you have ten widgets on the same place. I have unpublished it and
fix the bug. Kusthome is now on the market.
supported resolutions are;
- hvga
- wvga
but kusthome disappear from the market for 1.6... and I dont understand why.

I would love that to be true.
I think I've tested it. Shows some promise, but doesn't seem to read the dBM signal meter on a CDMA phone, and the existing themes are a bit limited.
awsome
I like kust home alot, would love to make my own themes for it as im great at Photoshop , but not to good at ADB (wish i could change that) as of now im swutching between kust and adw ex i like the abilaity to hide status bar and the cool app draw anamations in ADW but i like how in kust it looks nice and clean
Is this even still live? Link is dead

[LAYOUT] Scrolling Wallpaper 'Dock' + Tutorial

ClassicalGas Presents..
Scrolling Wallpaper Dock
This is a repost from here as it is not HTC Desire specific. Everything should work on any phone with 800*480 resolution.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Concept
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been experimenting with what I believe to be a unique use for the scrolling wallpaper. If using LP with 6 homescreens your wallpaper scrolls exactly one dock icon (1/5th of the screen).
I started playing around with using this as a screen indicator and dock icons to jump between homescreens using LPP Shortcuts. Shortcuts to all 6 screens are attached. I found you could effectively use the scrolling effect of the wallpaper in place of a screen indicator (although it goes the wrong way).
It takes a bit of playing around with the wallpaper to get it 100%. I've included a .PSD of one of my files, however the others aren't really in an up-loadable state. I've included all the scrollable wallpapers I've made as well.
I hope you get some fun out of this - If you do make something interesting and unique please post here to share it with everyone else!

I've had a few people wanting a tutorial on how to get the rainbow wallpaper set-up. Please keep comments and question in this thread, I would rather have questions answered publicly so they only have to be answered once.
The white bar is my own and is only available for OpenDesire, the rest of this theme requires the following and should work on any rom;

You need 6 to get it to scroll evenly. The way the wallpaper scrolls means that screen 1 and the last screen are at the far ends of the wallpaper and then each scroll is an equal division of the wallpaper. With 5 evenly spaced icons you need 6 screens. If the icons were evenly spread out and there were only 3 then it could work with 4 home-screens.
Alternately you could use 2 home-screens and have half a wallpaper on the other side.I was thinking of doing a heaven and hell theme with screen 1 light and white and screen 2 red and black. But haven't had time.
Hi, I really like your theme but I have no clue how to make the .lps files the shortcut.
EDIT: nvm, i found it. Had to place in sd card under folder called "downloads" then pick launcher pro shortcuts. Thanks for the theme

Wow, that's awesome, thanks for the video!
May I have but one request? I don't play a lot of games on my phone, but I use multiple social networking apps, is it possible to change the "games" tab to say "social"? And if there is a way that the user could do it, I'm all ears.
Love this idea and will be applying it to my set up when I figure out my request =P
EDIT: sorry, didn't open all the files, going to mess with some icon packs
Been playing around with this today, I couldn't figure out what it meant in the tutorial about the screen_6.lps? I'm assuming that if you apply that shortcut and hit it another screen it takes you too that screen, I just don't know how to apply it. Is that only in Launcher Pro paid version?
Have you had any luck on that Polaroid picture wallpaper, that's the best one out of all of them.
im about to make my own based off your black one ill post it when im done

it works pretty well on my vibrant

i know you said that the polaroid scroller (Probably a while away), but it would be nice to have. great write up and work. thanks.
This looks... awesome! Can't wait to get home and take a deeper look.
cant you upload the /sdcard/launcherpro_backup for us so we can just upload it and do what we like to tweak? It'd be a hell of a lot easier...
The game icons, angry birds, etc etc, can i get the pack? you editing them yourself? I checked the credits for the icons of eclipse, wasn't them.
do you have a link for those icons?

LauncherPro official website and forum
Introduction
First of all; This is a very basic guide (...) to help people just starting out.
LauncherPro is an alternative launcher for Android. Launcher meaning your homescreens, basically.
It allows for much more customization than the HTCLauncher (Rosie) or your phones equivalent does.
It is a free application but has "Plus features". These features include 5-6 Sense-like widgets. Since HTC widgets are dependant on HTCLauncher
(Rosie) to function I advise you to unlock the Plus features. You also help support the developer by unlocking these features.
Basics
You've already downloaded and installed LauncherPro and now you're ready to set it up! First of all, press the Home button on your phone and choose LauncherPro to be default.
You can always change your default Home application by going into Settings > Manage Applications > LauncherPro > Clear Defaults
Second: Press the Menu button on your device and choose Prefrences. From here you can choose basic settings. Unlocking the Plus features gives you a lot more settings. Set it up to best suit your likes.
This thread is not a walkthrough of LauncherPro, so if you need a manual you should check this out
Your dock
Hit the Menu button > Prefrences > Apperance Settings > Dock background
From here you can change your dock background. LauncherPro allows up to three docks (Scrolling behavior). There are a couple docks you can choose from, or you can use a custom dock.
If you're not a big Photoshop wiz there's a thread sharing dock backgrounds here (LauncherPro forums). If you on the other hand want to create a dock the correct size of the image is 480x84 pixels.
After applying a dock you suddenly realize the old icons are still on the dock - To change the icon all you need to do is long-press the icon and a menu should pop up. From here you can change
the icon. If you don't want a shortcut at all you choose blank. If the dock doesn't use icons like the screenshots above you need a transparent icon. You just long-press on the icon you want to change
and find the icon of your choice in your gallery. If you're asking yourself where to get a transparent icon, look no further. I've attached it.
Icons
There are many icon packs to choose from. My favorite place to look for icons is DeviantART > Customization > Icons > Dock Icons. There are also icon packs posted in this forum.
To apply an icon first off all you need to have it stored on your SDcard. Now just long-press the icon you wish to change and choose from your gallery
Mods
If you've unlocked the Plus features and want theme them - It's possible. Signals23 has posted a thread about it here. Basically your LPP widgets look a lot better.
ClassicalGas has got a thread that really shows the potential that LauncherPro has. Here's the thread covering "Scrolling Wallpaper Dock"
Under Prefrences there are certain settings that can help you improve the look of your homescreens. Prefrences > Homescreen Settings > Homescreen Grid.
It gives you more space on your homescreens. Instead of having 4x4 grid, you can have 10x10 - or whatever floats your boat.
Additional information
You can add any shortcut you wish on your homescreens using Desktop Visualizer.
To change your statusbar you have to edit your framework-res.apk or flash a theme
Yes, you have to be ROOTED in order to change your statusbar
This is where you share your screenshots which you've taken using ShootMe on a rooted phone
There's a Most Wanted Widgets thread here
Reserved in case I need to put something here.
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks! Very informative post. What weather widget is that in your first screen?

Hello and welcome to my guide on how to theme LauncherPro so that it looks like Ice Cream Sandwich, the newest and best looking version of the Android OS.
DISCLAIMER: I take no credit for any icons, launchers, pictures, or anything else used in this guide. Everything belongs to their respective owners.
Before we begin, here are some things that you will need to download:
1. LauncherPro, the free version or the paid version will work just fine (this guide is intended for use on LauncherPro. I have not tested it on any other launcher)
2. Desktop Visualizer - Click here to download it for free from the Android Market
3. Download these Android 4.0 icons, extracted from the SDK by l0st.prophet. Images by Google.
4. Download the Android 4.0 clock widget for FREE here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.icecreamsandwichclock.clock (Credit to developer juliojs) (This is optional)
5. Download the Google Search Widget image and App drawer icon at the bottom of this post. Add them to the folder of Android 4.0 icons to access them easier.
6. Download the dock background here: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/928/hhhha.png
Add the folder(s) of images to the first level of your SD card / USB storage.
Steps:
Step 1: From your homescreen (while in LauncherPro), hit Menu, click Preferences, then click Appearance Settings. Choose Dock Background and choose Gallery if you are asked. Browse to the dock background linked above.
Step 2: Go back into the LauncherPro Preferences and restart the launcher. Your dock background should now have a white strip above the icons on your dock.
Step 3: Next, go to Preferences (by hitting Menu), choose Dock Settings, and then click Number of Docks. Set this to 1.
Step 4: On the homescreen, hold down on the 1st icon of the dock. Change it to the Phone app and when you get the popup to change the icon and name, change the icon to the Android 4.0 Phone icon, the big blue phone.
Step 5: Change the second dock icon to your Contacts application. Again, change the icon to the Android 4.0 Contacts icon.
Step 6: Now, the app drawer icon. Make sure the middle shortcut leads you to your app drawer. Hold down on the icon and click Change Icon, then click Custom icon. Browse to the proved app drawer icon.
Step 7: Change the 4th dock icon to your Messages application. Change its icon to the provided Android 4.0 Messages icon.
Step 8: Change the 5th dock icon to your Browser application. Change its icon to the provided Android 4.0 Browser icon.
Your dock should now look like this:
After you complete the dock, feel free to change more icons on your homescreen or change the dock to whatever you'd like. The above is only an example. Please note that this guide will not affect the look of your app drawer icons, only the icons you change on your homescreen. To change non-dock icons, remove the icon from the screen. Then, hold down on the screen, click Shortcuts, Applications, then choose the app. You then get the option to change the icon and name.
Now, lets set up the Google Search widget.
Step 9: Add a widget on your homescreen for "Desktop Visualizer 4x1" and click the box that shows up on your homescreen. When the options for the widget pop up, choose the icon button and browse to where you put the search widget icon. Choose the search widget icon. Make the "Select Action" launch the Google Search widget. Click the clear button next to "Label" and make the touch effect "None" and add the widget to the homescreen. (Download the Google Search widget picture from the bottom of this post)
Step 10: Add the Ice Cream Sandwich clock to your homescreen (optional).
Step 11: Go to Menu --> Preferences --> Appearance and uncheck "Show icon labels background". Restart the launcher.
Here's an example of what I did to my homescreen:
Step 12: Back up your homescreen settings and layout in the LauncherPro settings. The theming is now complete.
For an added ICS look, you can get the wallpapers from ICS by visiting the following link and downloading the wallpapers, courtesy of Android Police / P3Droid. Also, add other icons to your homescreen and change their icons to the Android 4.0 ones. Also, to change the icon of the app, you'll need to remove the icon from the homescreen, then when you re-add it, it lets you change the icon. Please note, this will not change the app drawer icons, only ones you CHOOSE to change on the homescreen and dock.

Ok, updated the guide with a new link (for the 4.0 icons, clearer and more of them ) and a new dock background image.
Here's a tip.
Rename icons by creating a shortcut by long pressing homescreen. Choose an app and a picture then rename

That package does not contain the search widget image or the App drawer icon.

...and now the first post has been redone. Check it out!!

Excellent! Just what I needed, thanks!
I did drop you an email via the app but thought would post here also.
Is it please possible to add some sort of preview function so when you select the pack, so for example it will show 5 or 10 icons?
Also is there any way to determine if the pack has Icon Theming in it and display that info in the details please?
I have so many packs that I forget what each really looks like so this would be a great addition.
Please feel free to PM if you would like any help in beta testing etc.
Thanks!
Hi, any news on the pending updates and added features please? Keen to try out some new things with the app.
I also just noticed that you state 'Root Required' next to Nova? Does this give added functionality as I have been using MicoPacks with Nova (not rooted) since I purchased it.

Sent you the APK via PM. Let me know your feedback.
Regarding Nova, Yes. If you have root, It will not prompt to apply icons, automatically applies with root.

But now I have problem that this plugin does not executed when scheduled every 3 hours with Tasker.
I am using Nova Launcher.
It works fine if set every 5 minutes. But when set every 3 hours it does nothing.
Anyone experienced the same issue?
Thank you.
