Dual SIM - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hi, I am shortly going to have an mi5. One of the reasons I bought the phone was to have one phone and 2 SIMs thus doing away with the need to have two phones (personal and private) with me. But I am totally new to the whole dual sim thing. Can anyone explain how it works on the mi5?

All in all,
you get to choose if you want to use data from SIM 1 or SIM 2.
When u get att call it says Incomming call on <Call provider 1> or <Call provider 2>.
The same when you wanna call or text someone, either you tap SIM 1 or SIM 2. All of this could be configured in the settings menu.

Cool, thanks.

Experience with DualSim in Treo 750

I have a work SIM and a private SIM and really do not want to carry two phones around. In my previous two models of regular (not-smart) phones I used one of those dualsim cards where you cut our the center of each sim and slip them into a new sim card with some extra electronics on it. You can then switch between the sims with a couple of key presses or even at automatic time intervals. eg. http://duosim.com/
OK, so I have two different makes of this type of dual-sim card and tried each one in the 750. The switching program shows up in the phones menu and it looks like it is going to work but it does not. When you try to switch to the second sim, the phone switches off and back on, but the the phone is still using the first sim.
I really want to find a way to get this to work. I have ordered one of those multi-sim card cloners (same link as above), in the hope that will work differently.
Has anyone found a solution to this ? Either a particular make of dual-sim or multi-sim cloner that works or maybe a tweak to get past the above mentioned problem ?

Hi gajsler,
I found myself being in the same situation: Want to use both office and private Sims with my Treo.
After some research I can say that it depends mostly on the combination of SIMs you are using. If you are using any UMTS/3G SIMs then a digital DualSim-application wouldn't do trick, especially if you are using a H3G-SIM (Hutchison 3G).
You will need an analog DualSim-holder for these SIMs.
I've got one from HongKong (Ghost SIM, no cutting) but it doesn't work correctly. Only the first SIM card is being used ... don't know how to get past this issue.
Seems to be tricky. Will post any additional experiences.
Greetz,
TreMax

2in1 Sim Question

I have a SIM with two numbers, 2in1.
The problem is that it always shows on the title bar the number "1" (Line 1)
with the two numbers. The problem is that I don't know which number is on abd I have to go into the SIM menu to check.
any solution?
where did you get a 2 in one sim - i need one of those!
it's a service by my network.
This SIM has two numbers and whether someone calls you on the first number or on the second, the phone rings.
Aw Crap!
Hey well thx for the swift answer anyway!
;-)
You can buy 2 in 1 sims on ebay along with a sim duplicator that will put both of your single sims on the 2 in 1 card. The actually even have super sims that can hold way more than 2 sims. Just search super sim on ebay and I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about.
Thx buddy I will - not sure if these will work with Tmob tho or willthey fit the kaiser...

That I couldn't tell you. I've never used one before, just knew where to find them. SIM cards should all be the same size though so it should fit and I just read a post in the wizard forum earlier today that said that one cooked ROM for the wizard even supports multi sim cards and the ones that don't you can change which number is being used in the sim manager. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if that means you'll miss any calls made to the number not being used or if you only have to change the one being used if you want to use that number to dial out on.
No,you won't lose any phones.
The only thing is that you don't know which number you have active (to make calls).
Just this....The 2in1 SIM cards work fine on Kaiser without a problem at all.
this is great news you lot are frikkin brilliant - why did i stay away so long?!

dual sim

hello all. this question may be stupid, but esentially for me: can i made 2 sim cards to work both on my diamond in the same time? I mean to can receive a call on the orange sim card and to receive also to vodafone sim card without to be need to change the sims, or to change the operator? to function both.
I guess there are a couple of mobiles (with two antennas) able to do that (seen one, can't remember the brand and model). With only one antenna what you can do is clone both SIM cards into just one and with a reboot you have the option of starting up with one network or the other (I reckon you can have more than 2). I don't know if it's possible with current SIM cards and can't remember the hardware and software needed to do that.
Oh.. And it's illegal The best option is to have more than one mobile
yes i know about that devices that have 2 antenna's. i was wondering if i can do it on diamond. i know also about that method with 2 sim and after restart to choose the network operator. thx for the answer.

[Q] Dual sim issues

I have one sim that I wish to use for phones / text messages, and one that I wish to use for mobile data.
If I put either sim in on its own, it works fine.
If I put both in together, and set them so they are both on, the one that I wish to use for phone calls and texts does not register on its network (which is Three in the UK)
I am not sure what to do. Can the phone company have set it so it doesn't work in a dual sim setting?
Or have I just failed to understand what dual sim is?
Any help much appreciated!

Try interchanging the SIM, I mean just enter the right one on the left and the left one on the right. What you are saying shouldn't happen.
If possible try another 2 SIM to see if the problem is with the SIM or the phone.

OK thanks. I have tried it with another 2 sims and it works fine. So that means it's a faulty sim?
Is it possible the network won't allow dual sim, or should I just request a replacement?
Thanks

Before requesting a replacement just ask the network operator of that particular SIM that if they disallow Dual-SIM or not. If they don't allow using their SIM on a dula-sim mobile asking for a replacement would be pointless.
I am using 3 (UK) and Vodafone, no issues, so likely the sim

Thats incorrect, can be 2G/3G/4G, the other sim is 2G/3G.
To ther op's, for all I know, the P7 and 8 is full active, you can use sim one to call sim two and you phone will start to ring, thats the same for sim one on call, whiles data can be used to surf the internet on sim two. This feature has been removed for all released afterwards.

Lets just say that when sim 1 is active (on a call), sim 2 is disabled.

Nothing can be done about it, of all the phone only Huawei P7 and 8, from what I know has this feature, all the newer Huawei has removed the feature, and other manufacture thinks it's not worth having it.
