Headphone Jack Bug - Sony Xperia X Performance Questions & Answers

Is there any advice to get around the bug that certain headphones are not recognised as being plugged in and others are recognised but then become unrecognised?
I knew this was a problem on previous Xperia devices.

I have the same issue after updating to nougat. Phone doesn't recognise any headphones.

Have the same issue.
I've already created topic on official Xperia Forum, but there is no good news yet.

They are trying to kill the headphone jack LOL

I have to some problem.....

Have to unplug and replug headphones at start of every call - Normal?

Hi all,
I have an Xperia X1. I don't use the integrated microphone 3.5mm cable that came with the phone - just my regular Sennheiser PX-200II headphones. I've found that for almost all calls, in order for the other side to hear me, if the call starts with the headphones plugged in, I need to unplug the headphones and plug them back in and then they will be able to hear me fine. Same if I am using it in my car, hooked up through the 3.5mm cable to my stereo.
My guess is that as a default it seems like it assumes the mic connector is there and until the unplug the other side cannot hear me? And then on unplug/replug, it seems to detect properly that it is not there and uses the onboard Mic on the phone.
I've tried different custom ROMs but I've observed this with many different ones - I'm wondering if it might be a hardware issue.
Does anyone else have this happen to them? It doesn't happen for every single call, but it does so often, though when it does and doesn't seems quite random to me.
I don't usually make new threads, there's a couple times in the past year I've tried to search around and find information on this but I couldn't find anything - maybe I'm unique or not - but any reply is welcome. I think I may have found something similar with a different kind of phone (here) suggesting there are other discussions on this and maybe a hardware fix and potentially a software fix - but nothing on the Xperia in particular. Is this just something everyone has and they carry the mic cable with them all the time - I can do that if it is, though I have to say my headphone cable is much longer than I like already and any alternate fix would be better... thanks all, any reply welcome.
Thanks,
Peter
the hardware jack 3.5 mm in the x1 was diferrent from other 3.5mm... because in the x1 it has swicht inside the jack and if u use the cable not for the X1.. it will broken the swicht.. for a long time use.. its will affect... sometime event the cable already pull up from the x1 jack.. the logo off the headphone in windows dont want disepear...

[Q] Headphone jack Broken (software issue?)

HI everyone,
I have an Xperia Z C6603(rootet) with pacman Rom(4.3.1) , before that i updated it to sonys Kitkat( I mention this because of the headphone Problems some people had with this update.)
My problem is basically that my headphone Jack doesnt work..
I dont remember when exactly it started, but at some point it would play music only for a second, then showing me the Hearing Protection pop up (which is strange because sonys hearing protection should not be installed anymore, i wiped the phone thoroughly).
after that (up until today) it seems like it does not even recognize the headphones when i plug them in.
So since the Hardware seems to work i wondered if i could reset the system partition or something like that?
all help is very aprecciated
thank you

Sony Xperia C6616 Headphone jack problem (one ear not working)?

Hello. I'm going to keep it brief. My phone's headphone jack has been messed up for a long time now (maybe a year, and I've had it for two years exactly). The left ear will have sound, and accessory will work, but the right ear is not working. As far as I know, there hasn't been any water inside the headphone jack, so I don't understand what's wrong with it. I'm running official firmware (latest), never rooted the phone or anything. Is there any way to test if the headphone jack is actually faulty? I don't want to pay 50$ to fix it, considering that I could get a chinese phone that performs similar if not better for like 100ish$. I remember I used the headphone jack normally in the morning, and when I went to plug my earbuds once I was done with classes, the right ear wasn't working.
Thanks!

Stupid question, have you tried other headphones?
Anyway, mono audio is usually caused when the jack is not fully inserted, try blowing some air in it and see if anything is stuck in there, For the jack to fully enter you should feel and hear a click. Post results here

Hey. Sorry for the late answer. Yeah I've tried with so many different headphones, even my Logitech G430. I guess it's the hardware itself. Can't say I didn't drop it from ear level on concrete so...
Please check if something is stuck there because it is really strange, also make sure you plug the jack all the way in. Other than that, there is not much else to do...

headphone issue - no sound at all

Hi, I had an 4GB Alpha for a week but have just sold it today (I realized I still prefer my Xiaomi Max). The guy who bought it contacted me after a couple of hours because he can't get any sound out of the headphone socket. He tried it with several headphones which work without issues with other phones (as far as I understand he tested it with Samsung and Sony headphones) and I have no idea what setting to change (he tried the volume buttons trust me) - any ideas how to make the headphone socket work? I had no idea about this issue as I don't use wired headphones at all. Btw the phone detects the headphones as the headphone icon is displayed when a headphone is connected.

Mine work just fine. received the phone the week before Xmas and it got 2 updates since then. Tried with Samsung, AKG (both in hear) and JVC headsets and had no problems whatsoever. Maybe you/he can solve the problem with this last system update via OTA or could be a hardware failure. In my Samsung A5 2017 only the Samsung headphones would work because the jack was a tad longer than the AKG's. The latter would spring back after being inserted and only one channel would work.
pause for effect
I have found that inserting the jack but pausing before pushing in for the "click" allows the phone to detect the headphones. Logo shows in the status bar. I don't even think about it anymore when I do it. Not ideal but workable. I use an old pair of Samsung earbuds.
Hope it helps

Speaker and Earpiece No Sound Issue

Hello developers around XDA...I got a issue of no sound from earpiece and speaker on my Sony Xperia ZR device since when I was on stock rom. later I decide to switch from stock to custom rom to solve this issue but unfortunately it wasn't work. I wonder about many people are still facing same issue on different devices even in Google premium phone Pixel XL 2. I am finding answer online about the cause and many people have told headjack faulty which prevent to route audio on speaker and Earpiece. I am finding solution to get it fix from system root path or any code edit in root path without use of third party app like sound about or audio router.
So I need developers to look into issue on how to route audio without app permanently. Any fix from developers would be appreciated and ready to test on device.
try sound about from the play store
I know about " Sound about" and "Audio Router" app. But my concern is to fix this issue without app by ROM. How soundabout app works to route audio by blocking headset which Android see as plug-in. That trick should be in ROM in the form of switcher inbuilt in Android settings.

Hi! I started to have the same problem few months ago. I was on stock lollipop. So I figured I flash LineageOS. It didn't help. I think it's a headphone jack fault. I've had this phone for four years and every day i listen music. I think headphone jack just wore out.
EDIT: I changed my display two years ago. Had water damage (seawater). I think the headphone jack thing, may come from that too.
This problem started to me when I was on lollipop Sony stock rom so I decide to switch to Lineage or other ROM but issue wasn't solved. I use soundabout which relieve me from this issue but as you told it might be headphone jack problem..it's seems to be doubt because other devices from legacy till Pixel XL 2 owner facing same issue even they didn't use headphone daily. So may be it's a issue related to Sound certificate/license expiry for legacy device...

I have the same problem too
I know the problem & the solution.
Problem: Only Media Tones (Loudspeaker / Music / In-Call audio) is broken.
That is because the headphone jack is loosened. The correct way to solve the problem is to plug a headphone jack (I used 3 pole) and properly unplug the jack while playing a song.
Check for audio again, plug / unplug until you can listen to the music by speaker.
Another way is to use log cat and look exactly where it is stuck after plugging & unplugging.
I encountered this after plugging audio cable to my car. Unfortunately, I cannot plug it in again because it is too loose to be usable and might permanently fell into headphone jack attached mode.
The whole set is available at Alibaba (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...Jack-Audio-Flex-Cable-Mobile/32717114182.html)
Thanks to @namenlos from ZL thread for sending me the alibaba link.
