Galaxy Note 5 OFFICIAL Nougat RELEASED, possible port for Galaxy Note 4 (N910C) - Galaxy Note 4 General

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b3IbkOrkYtE
The official Galaxy Note 5 Nougat firmware has been released on SamMobile. Since Nougat is the most complete Android version in existence while also improving battery life marginally, I think it would be amazing if someone could port the Galaxy Note 5 ROM for the Galaxy Note 4 International Exynos variant (N910C).

Lol

Or the 910V!

To port a certain firmware the device has to be on the same software level or the hardware should be the same eg: The note 7 "Grace UX" came out with marshmallow so devs were able to port it to the note 4. The next scenario is where the hardware is of the same. The note 5 has a 7420 exonys chip set while the note 4 has the 5433 chip set. So this is clearly impossible. Our best bet is the Samsung Tab s2 which has a exonys 5433 chipset and is due to receive nougat somewhere by the end of may

One thing that confuses me, is that devices like the Galaxy S4 and even the Galaxy S4 mini, have completely stable roms running Nougat, even though Samsung stopped updating those after Lollipop. I see AICP, ResurrectionRemix and all these other projects that create this amazingly rock stable rom for the devices, yet for the Exynos variant of the Galaxy Note 4, there doesn't seem to be any movement. :crying:

I used to own a samsung s4 myself before i switched to the note 4 and it was the i9505 (snapdragon variant). Android Open Source (AOSP) roms are possible only for snapdragon devices because the soc's are open source and exonys as we know is manufactured by samsung and samsung does not release the sources thats why AOSP roms are not easy to port to exonys variants. I regret switching phones because the s4 has so many stable aosp roms while the exonys variant's get nothing. Hope i answered your question

Ahh yes, I had a feeling it had something to with the chipsets. It's a shame, I paid full price recently to buy the Exynos variant specifically for modding. I chose Exynos over the Snapdragon variant because the Exynos chip is 64bit compared to the Snapdragon which is 32bit, so it seemed like a better choice given that the Android ecosystem is headed towards 64bit ever since Lollipop and so I would be future-proofing my device. Unfortunately now it seems Exynos is a lot more difficult to make roms for I guess it's almost like comparing the PS3 with the Xbox 360: PS3 has more power than the 360, but the PS3's CBE chip is so much more difficult to make games for. Here's hoping for a long and fruitful development life for the Exynos Galaxy Note 4 :fingers-crossed:

Also samsung doesnt advertise their exonys devices as 64 bit and marshmallow for the device is also a 32 bit os. In short samsung doesnt utilize the full capacity of the note 4's 64 bit chipset. But the advantage is that since the device and the chipset is made by the same company the phone is more fluid and responsive than its snapdragon counterpart. Something similar to googles pixel, software and hardware made by same company

Out of curiosity, which rom have you found to be the best and most stable for the Exynos variant? Or are you using stock?

I regularly switch between stock and custom roms. The best ux based roms are Pirobot v6, Doola v12 and DN7 v0.1
If youre looking for something close to stock erobot v19 would be the best

Yup, v19 seems to be the best. I've found that battery life is abysmal when on UX roms :/ plus, there are far too many bugs from DN7 that I tried. I stuck with erobot 19 and am using Samsung's GoodLock and it works amazingly well. To be honest, I'm not bothered about the GraceUX anymore; Samsung's GoodLock literally does it all while looking sleek. So I've found erobot + GoodLock is the best combo so far! Only downside, fingerprint lock screen doesn't seem to be functional, but other than that, everything else is golden. I was tempted to head back to stock rom but it seems that Samsung cloud doesn't allow the Galaxy Note 4 on stock rom to backup and restore music and other files from Samsung Cloud. The only way I've found Samsung Cloud's backup/restore to fully work is by using erobot and hence why I've stayed away from stock.

There is something which I'd hoped you could help me with, I'm on erobot 19 as you know, for some reason the multiwindow tray keeps popping up randomly. It's the tray that pops up when you hold the back key but it seems to pop up randomly even when I'm not holding down the back key. Do you have any ideas how to stop that from happening without completely disabling multiwindow feature?

I don't think it is the old one, i mean i can see the split screen option above the app card when in recents but then you also have the option to open the app tray which has a bunch of apps in it that you can open in pop-up view.
I would take a screenshot of it but the side multiwindow tray disappears when i try to.

I wouldn't hold my breath for any custom ROM's

For those who are waiting for custom ROM's for the Tab S (WiFi) you maybe disappointed. From my experience with the Tab Pro (WiFi) there are no custom ROM's for the Exynos SOC. I am hoping someone can prove me wrong.

There are a number of roms for the 10.1 Pro which has the Exynos does it not? They may be TouchWiz based but still debloated and faster.

I guess you're right. For me those modified stock ROM'S never provided enough benefit to make me root my tablet to install. By custom ROM'S I mean ROM'S that include such things as tweaked kernels, ie, Cyanogen Mod.
The reason there was little development for the 10.1 Pro wasn't Exynos, it was because no one bought it. N10.1-14's with S Pen could be had as refurbs for $350 and even at retail they were close to the same price. After the N10.1-14 received 4.4 the only thing missing compared to the Pro was M-UX and to some that was a good thing. The N10.1-14's dev community if fairly decent for a tablet. Samsung's going to sink gazillions of marketing dollars in to the S' and with their AMOLED displays they finally have a distinguishing feature. Whether officially or via neglect the 8.4/10.1 Pro's are dead with the equivalent S' replacing them.
Everyone's claiming confusion about Samsung's tablet line but it's actually pretty clear. Entry level = Tab 4's, premium devices = the S', and productivity/creation devices = the Note's. The non-Note Pro's were apparently just a stop gap until the S' were ready.
Regardless, comparing development for the S' to the 10.1 Pro's is apples and oranges.

Hey there. For once I'm not lusting after the next "shiny" thing on the horizon; for both my phone and tablet. I have a N10.1-14 that I love and its replaced my laptop 50% of the time. Next time I'm in Latin America I'm going to replace my 3G with a 4G version sold there that works on AT&T. All Samsung's newer high-end tablets are really the same with some s/w and h/w tweaks. With the exception of the Tab S' AMOLED display and finger print reader mostly the former. UI wise, with the exception of M-UX being omitted, Samsung brought the N10.1-14 up to "Pro" level with the 4.4 update. If I didn't use S Note/S Pen and was a consumption user I'd be all over the Tab S. Both for its display and color. Who could resist Titanium Bronze? Hope you enjoy yours.

Up to individual taste. For me CM is just too bland a interface, I actually like TW and have "cooked" a few ROMs in the past. They are actually "custom" as modified from Samsung, so is CM, modified from Google is "custom"........but each to their own.
Devices running TW firmware do actually have "tweaked kernels", such as my Note 3 is running my own SkyHigh kernel built from official Samsung sources.
When I get my hands on a 8.4 LTE model, that's exactly what I'll be doing too !

Its not a TW issue. I think Samsung devices with Snapdragon SoC have the fully custom ROMs. Devices with the Exynos CPU's usually don't.
When it comes to roms there is one thing I look for. Speed. Unless they go crazy with colors, theming or silly fonts I don't care much how it looks since I use a launcher anyway. Although I enjoy CM I miss the Samsung features such as split screen.
I would make Alliance rom for the tab s just need to afford one lol ?

[Q] 64 Bit Tab S

The question: Which is the best option (conjecture):
a) CM11 on a Tab S SM-T800 (Exynos 5420)
b) Touchwiz on a Tab S (Exynos 7 Octa 64bit) -unreleased
c) Touchwiz on a Tab S (Exynos 5433 32-bit locked) -unreleased
Links:
[REDACTED] - I can't give you links since I've not enough posts yet.. google "Tab S 5433" and you'll find some links to the new stuff I'm talking about, news broke around Oct 2.
details:
Since I live in Seoul, I'll be able to pick up one of these new bad boys if/when it's released. However, that would mean returning the T800 I've just ordered as soon as it arrives; I only bought it because of Suzook, Nvertigo67, and Baracudda77777's efforts to port over CM11, but I'm guessing the re-released Tab S won't be compatible with their Rom.
The articles seem to suggest that the re-release tablet will have the 5433 (now renamed the Exynos 7 Octa) but it's possible that it will be 'locked' into 32 bit mode.. not really sure if that means forever or until they update touchwiz to Android 5.0.
Just don't want any lag.. what would you do?

Not sure if it would make a difference at all so I put the question out there. Perhaps future proofing to some extent?
The new chip is touted to be ~50% faster (and easier on the battery) but if CM11 runs perfectly smooth on a T800 already then I guess I don't see much pointed in going faster than perfectly fast
Well I read about it only being released in korea/parts of asia. Not sure yet on when it will be in the u.s. Doesnt matter really since its just changing chipsets for better improvement of performance. But nothing was mentioned about battery life. The tab s i have now has great battery life since im rooted and debloat some apps. And I dont really need a faster tablet since this is just fine for me. So battery could possibly be an issue in the new tab s is what im asking.

The problem with the lag in current models is touchwiz thats causing it. Until you change launchers, theres no lag. Unless you wont care of haveing root a couple weeks of whe the new tab s comes out go for it. Just make sure you check if the battery lasts as long asadvertised. There have been reports of bad batteries in some tab s models right now. I wonder if there will be much development for the new tab s.

[Discussion] Android Marshmallow for Note 4

As we all know, Android Marshmallow will surely be on our great device, the Note 4. Leaked news say that Note 4 users will start receiving the update in February. Galaxy S6 and its brother Edge will be getting it on January, while the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus will get it this December. According to these news, the new update will have a new TouchWiz. You can see that it is flat and more Material Design. As we all heard (or some of us), that Google is helping Samsung to create a new TouchWiz that will be so light and so materialistic, which as we can see in the link that it is really more beautiful and looks neater than the older versions. Now, will this new TouchWiz be on our Note 4? I believe it will. I know that the TouchWiz on the Note 5 isn't there for Note 4, but I believe Samsung did that to boost the sales of their Note 5 as it got a lot of bad reviews. Now that a lot of people have bought the Note 5, I think we will get this new TouchWiz along the update Android Marshmallow, or Samsung might even decide to keep their boost for the Note 5 and S7, and release the new TouchWiz for the Note 4 in Android 6.1 (maybe?).
What do you think?

I dont think so we will get the new theme engine.
we could get an improved touchwhiz.
but in 2016 i'll get a note 6.
used all notes from 2 to 4
but due to lack of expandable storage. I'll be skipping note 5. But thanks to rumours. I'm quite positive that it will make a comeback (fingers crossed)
The results are given here. There's nothing more to talk about. Look at how they ditched that poor note 3. I guess android 6.0 will be the last update for our note 4.

This isn't the last list, it will keep updating. Samsung is really good in making phones but they really suck at software... I am close to ditching it, but I got my Note 4 in September which is most likely for me switch to Nexus phones (or even iOS) in the next few years. Though, hopefully Samsung will enhance due to the next few years...

Hmmm... choice also matters bro. Those who love pure android experience and want latest android versions prefer CM. But as for me, having the latest android version doesn't matter much for me as I love the stock firmware coz there are so many extra options & features that I may not find it on CM. (Not to forget the s-pen features too). Also rooting & installing touchwiz based kernels & roms is like extra icing on the cake! ^_^
Is any news about marshmallow update? Are those release dates official?
hmmm i don't think that the note 4 will have the new touchwiz in near update but i think that it can be ported to our device buy our extremely talented devs.

Of course it won't, it's going to be the story of S3 and we'll also get it badly optimized, but things will be fixed and ported by someone here, as always.
Now we are with Android 5.1.1 BUT still with the old TouchWize UI except some few visual changes here or their !!!
Samsung policy is always like this .... the older generation get nothing new until the Note 4 is dead officially & removed from Samsung lists.
I sold my Note 4 few months back & I got iPhone 6s (such a cool smartphone), then I decide to buy another Note 4 because of the Stylus I really like to play with it, so I'm keeping mt Note 4 as second phone for my other sim.
accept it like it is, update stuff is not for Samsung or Note 4 enjoy like this way.
if you need fast updates get iPhone (I really recommend it) or Nexus phone, also HTC & LG providing faster updates.

Yes man, iPhone providing smooth & easy way for dealing with stuff, & old iPhones get the new OS even before releasing the new iPhone.
Apps quality are also better in iOS.
in short ...in spite of my short experience with Apple & iOS but believe me iPhone does provide user experience that I can't live without it.
and if Apple will one day provide iPhone with stylus, a Samsung Note like, so many people will leave Samsung for Apple.

Of topic?
This threat is for note 4 marshmallow update.
From wat i saw in both s5 and note 4 neither s5 nor note 4 will have the new touchwiz , u already mentioned the reason cuz both note 4 and note5 are too close in terms of hardware so as usual Samsung decided to go against it's habit and decided not to port the new touchwiZ to note 4 Just to make sure that note5 sales are doing well , and about 6.1 update for note 4 I doubt it will have it I think android 6.0 is going to the last update for note 4 same as note3 that didn't get android 5.1.1 and left with buggy android 5.0 unfortionatly This is Samsung THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY and ptl dont say That every manfacturer does because they don't do it in Samsung way, anyway I am waiting for the update and if leaks were true that it won't have The latest touchwiz as Samsung used to do with previous notes I will move to another brand mostly the next nexus.

Fully featured Samsung ROM for A6

Do I have your attention now?
Good.
Hi guys. We were discussing on our A6 group that the regular 7870 A6 gets very little love.
Mainly because it's not a very good phone. But that's why it needs more love than its getting, so that the experience of owning it doesn't suck as much xD
Well, I happened to mention that I love my S8 ROM for the J6 because it is fully featured. Even with Pie released and even with 64bit vendor, I always return to my S8+ ROM. I just love it so much.
So, I offered the opportunity to port it to the A6.
Now, there are a couple of things I need to make clear before actually doing this.
As of now, porting ROMs in Pie is a bit difficult because you can't deodex the whole firmware properly, that is why I have not really done any Pie porting.
This port would be Oreo!
Deodexing Oreo has 0 problems and I can easily try to fix problems that happen due to pop up.
So, what would be the benefits?
Imagine being able to use edge screen! Infinity wallpapers! Smart select, bixby vision, scroll capture!
Sure, you don't have the latest OS, but I think having Oreo is good enough
That being said, I do need some active testers. I don't own an A6 so porting will require somebody with the device to test.
If you are interested, leave your comment here and I will contact you when possible to try to make this a reality.
I'll leave you guys with some captures to see if it motivates you a little

A6 a little bit better because exynos base, but the siblings (A6+) far more worse because snapdragon base :silly: .
my target port very limited..only A8star, A9 2018. i have some thought also to port from s8/s9/note8/note9, but all those series must be come from china open/hongkong region (snapdragon) which could lead me to getting more problems.
after seeing that you successful porting from S8 oreo maybe i also will try from s8 hongkong region
currently i also running A9 2018 port and all bugs has been solved (from released version in here).
the feature almost same from your port but i don't have edge lighting

With a full deodex, you can port no matter the SoC. I've ported both SD and Exynos to Mediatek Sammy phone. I think in general, Samsung likes to use very general lib stuff

i don't think so...even in kernel, how it load stuffs, fstab, etc,, SD and exynos is different. maybe if to mediatek it will work as you said, but if from exy to SD or vice versa it will not work.
regarding lib probably until oreo, starting on pie seems so many changes
Will AOD work? If so I would glad to return to Oreo

I want to be a Tester send me a Private Message with link
Hello guys,I would like to know if the Rom is suitable for the Samsung Sm-A600FN
Complete noob
Could I flash it like stock firmware? And could I obtain camera 2 api? I have A6+ sm-a605fn, it's worth nothing to me if I can't get camera 2 api, so I am more than willing to try, except that I"m a noob and have no clue what deodex is.
Happy to help
Would it be suitable for the SM-A600T1? If so I would be more than willing to aid you in your development and test it for you.
